Gear VR app repo, downloading apps outisde the oculus store? - Samsung Gear VR

Is there a way to get a hold of the apps before we buy them? Reason I ask is that sometimes apps are under developed or somehow don't work great with the phones. And the issue is that there isn't a refund option just in case the app is bad or whatever. So trying before buying would be the best option. I've done it with play store apps and sometimes PC games too. Can't seem to find anything on the gear VR though.

Any way to use Play store VR apps?

I've gone through most of the VR stuff samsung has to offer, is there a way to disable the gear from activating when the phone is plugged in to use carboard / other VR apps from the app store?

Those cardboard apps could run (and they can with a trick) but they are not using the faster sensors of the Gear VR and don't use the optimized code, that means no <20ms latency, possible lag, judder and the view might not be adjusted to the lenses, unless they would be made compatible with the Gear VR like the game Vanguard V was.
And here is the trick:

Where to get all the apps?

Am I stupid? I for the life of me cannot find where to get any of the apps? Oculus app? MilkVR? Where do I get them??
I'm in Canada and because Samsung is a bi**h they still don't provide any here. I want to try and watch VR videos and such with the Google Carboard that I have but for the life of me don't understand why it's so difficult! I have an s5, cardboard and some mp4 videos that are top/bottom for whatever reason. I'm assuming that the app flips them somehow? Otherwise, how are you supposed to watch? I'm very confused here, please help!
You can't get the Gear VR apps without the Gear VR. They won't work even if you could load them without the Gear VR.
Look for an app called "cardboard theatre" it will let you play those over under files.

Thanks! I found VR Player and that works great!

Install apps outside Oculus Store

I am tired of the lack of functionality of the Player branded to Oculus VR: Samsung VR, Moon Player, Video or Theater, i want a player that will allow me to add my own folders but work the same as Moon player(no file renaming). I found some good players in Playstore but how to port them into Oculus Store ? It's very annoying to remove the glasses and the phone every time you are changing apps without Oculus. Anybody has a solution how to port apps into Oculus Store ?
Before I installed a custom MarshMall Rom, I was using Fulldive and I had the mouse cursor enabled on my phone launcher and apps (not sure how, maybe because of sixaxis and my ps3 controller?).
Then I would place the shortcuts on the home screen where I could see them with one eye and click on them using the vr touchpad to move the cursor.
I just did the ROM the other day and have been messing with just trying to everything working again.
I have looked into this, I didn't find a way to import apps to oculus home. I tried using a custom ROM, but that bricked my phone. Only other way I found was to use package disabler
Is there a place to download oculus apps outside from the store anyway?
Apk extractor

The only way I know to do this would require someone who has the desired Oculus app already installed on their device. They would have use an APK extractor to get the apk file then copy it to your device and install it. Since its already an Oculus signed application it should show up in your library. You could possibly do this with paid apps as well
There is an app called SideloadVR which allows you to install apps outside the Oculus store. Be aware that you need an *.osig file to make it work. It explains the process in the app. Hope I helped

Anyone know how to add apps to the library?

I've gotten some sideload apps, some cardboard apps from the play store, and a nice video player (360 vr). . .
And to switch between them, you have to take the phone out, launch the app, then put it back in. Wth samsung
It would be really nice to add others to the gear home library.
Or even better, a custom home launcher
Is anyone working on something like that?
There are plenty of custom launchers already available in the Play store. I use Fulldive VR, it's an Ocolus Home replacement if you like, but it gives you access to all the Cardboard VR apps installed on your phone.

Alternative for NON VR App simulation

I have heard of Native SBS for the usage of non VR apps but it requires a rooted phone which I can't do because of company policy. Is there any alternatives that basically splits the screen and adjust focus to work on the Gear? Would be awesome to be able to have a full screen view of some non VR games and Apps.
I'm actually wondering the same thing. Figure I would bump this instead of making a new thread.
Been googling for a while now....
Edit:
Ah ok I see now after finally receiving my Gear VR a couple days ago.
The app must support "Stereoscopic view" before you can even use Gear VR in it. It is possible to mount the phone in the gear VR without it plugging so it doesn't go to the app. So you will see whatever you want on your screen, however it won't realistically be usable. For 3rd party apps such as PPSSPP, you can turn on "Google Cardboard view" and use your VR and I must say it works pretty damn well.
