I rooted when the phone first came out and have been on Clean Rom ever since. I want to unroot, and move on the the latest MM update since development has stopped. My question is, do it have to Odin back to an original lollipop firmware, or can it just Odin straight to the latest MM firmware. Will I lose all my data and settings?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active SGH-i537 on version 4.3 with baseband version I537UCUAMF1 and build JSS15J.I537UCUBML2. I had rooted it with saferoot. I still have a couple of months left on my warranty.
I want to to upgrade to the latest kitkat version but am unsure which route to take.
Any help?
What I did was reflash the stock 4.3 and then I just took the update via Wi-Fi (it did take about 40 mins for the update to download and reboot) Then I rooted with towelroot. Easy as pie.

Given my baseband and build version which stock version of 4.3 should I reflash to?
Would reflashing remove evidence of previous root?

There's only one version of ML2, and reflashing the ML2 Odin package will completely wipe your phone.
Ok. I flashed the Stock 4.3 with ODIN and since I don't have a AT&T SIM card, I did the SD Card Recovery Mode update and everything is well.
Thanks!
Hey all. I had my phone rooted for a long time and I have safe strap. Haven't been here in a while and would like to upgrade to 4.4. Now my stock slot is on android 4.0, baseband N900AUCUBNB4. When I try to update it says my software is up to date or says downloading then hangs. How do I return to full stock to update? Thanks.

That thread says there is no need to remove root. If I want to use the ota updates do I have to remove root or will the otas still work? Thanks
Using the odin file/files will install the latest stock nc2 Rom and remove root at the same time. If you then want root use towelroot.

Hey ho guys. I have a 5S with the Downgrade to NCE flash found on this board. I would like to have the latest Kitkat without updating to Lollipop and getting the locked bootloader. I just downgraded today to NCE and bravely did one OTA. It got me to NG3. Can I OTA again to get OA1 or will it jump me to OC4? Or should I use one of the methods here on the board to upgrade and totally avoid OTA? Thanks, later.

If you want root capabilities i wouldn't take any OTA. You'll still have to go back to NCE to root anyhow i believe. As far as the boot loader it is and always has been locked on the AT&T S5. The only method for root is towel root and I'm not sure if it'll work on NG3. If not you'll have to go down to NCE

Yeah, I should have preference that I am after root. But towelroot works on NG3, you can read about that here.

After I took the brave OTA I followed the threads instructions and it worked. There is a thread here that talks about root for OA1.

It says just to take the OTA. I guess its still safe to take the OTA then after NG3? And I can't seem to find any rom on here thats stock OA1. Anyone know if I aren't seeing it? Thanks.

Most of the roms are based on nce or ng3. If you go to oa1 and flash a nce or ng3 rom your phone will be slow because of the different bootloader, and the camera is screwed up. I'd stay on ng3 and not worry about oa1. That's my opinion. I'm on 5.0 running the Twi5ted rom and having no problems with it. Most devs have moved to 5.0 lollipop and the 4.4.2 - 4.4.4 roms will be more and more abandond in my opinion.

Ah see I haven't tried any of the custom roms posted on here yet. But can I have NC3 as stock and on another ROM Slot (using Safestrap) have a Lollipop rom? Having one slot be 4.2.2 and the other be 5, basically. So the bootloader is different from NC3 to OA1, good to know. I'm glad I stopped at NC3 then. Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure on the different slots and bootloader mainly because when i used different slots the battery drain was unbearable. I don't know if they every fixed the battery drain issue when using different slots. It was bad enough that i just stuck to the stock slot and flashed only in that slot.
How can I upgrade from Android 5.0.2 AOE2?
I tried to search and couldn't find anything that made me confident enough.
It sounds like I would need to flash back to stock (am on custom ROM) and then flash the updates one at the time using Odin or adb. I'm not sure what update to start with and/or if I can do it in a way that maintains root access.
These are the only two threads I found but neither mention coming from AOE2 or custom ROMs.

I would start with the first link you have odin to oj7. If you are on at&t you can do updates on the network after that to get to marshmallow.
I just updated from rooted 5.02 OE2 all the way to 6.0.1. Yes, you have to flash back to stock and then you can update OTA to 5.1.1 then to 6.0.1. I used the odin files here to flash to stock.

If I'm rooted on 4.4.4 can I just go to about phone and update it from there and lose root? Or do I have to flash a 6 rom?
I've sort of come to the conclusion that I'd rather have an updated phone than root access at this point. But I'm not sure if I want to start from scratch and re-download all my apps and configure all the settings again.
You will probably need to unroot first. If you are using a rooted stock Rom, you might be able to then update ota. Chances are you will need to reset and wipe at some point though. I'm in the same boat, I want the MM features. However, I will not give up root. I will wait for a custom MM Rom with root or just stick with lollipop and root.
