X8 chip upgrade?

Do you think motorola will upgrade the present X8 chip with 2 krait 300 cores to a new X8 chip with krait 400 cores? Snapdragon 800 already has a low power always listening core in it right? wonder whats in store for summer

Who knows, but we should definitely see the core upgrade.
Moto X successor is still slated for late summer release. So it could be as late as August. By that time we will have Snapdragon 610 and 615 in market and those make perfect sense for new Moto X. Still not the high end for that time, but plenty of oomph while consuming less power and significant upgrade over current MSM8960DT.

I remember Dennis Woodside saying the next generation Touchless control wont require you to speak the command phrase first.

Current phrase is too long. With the android wear, we will be saying "OK Google" all the time. Then to say "OK Google now" for phone will be little odd. They can simply go for "Moto" or " Hey Moto". No phrase is not ideal. You don't want your phone to trigger touches control all the time.

If they keep with the theme of last year the x8 will be quietly upgraded and they will add new one useful features. Maybe slightly faster but still dual core. I would love for some upgrades on the rest of the phone. 1080p but still 4.7" display, better camera, wireless charging, more customizations?

For android wear you don't always have to say okay google now. In the video the guy in the train simply says "Reply" which is cool. I'd love to see that translated to the X. I wish Motorola has an X series which would keep the 4.7 size and some other series for other sizes all while maintaining the same specs in all series except the G.

The problem with a 1080p screen is eats more battery without much if any real increase in picture screen is to small.

while 1080p does eat some battery up, there have now been advancements made in the newer 801 chipsets in regards to battery life. it would be great if MotoX 2 could get a dualcore variant of that, while also beefing the battery up to maybe 2600maH while retaining the same 4.7" screen. i'd also like to see a better camera for low light shots. if these were the upgrades, while also adding more useful features to the phone, i'd be sold day1.
i feel fairly confident that the screen size of the device will stay small. to most, that's one of the selling points of the MotoX.

I would also like an improved battery. Maybe next phone for me will be back to the Maxx. My fiancee is using my old RAZR maxx and I miss the crazy battery life she gets. The new maxx was just priced out of my reach so hopefully moto x 2 can bridge nicely.

I am not really interested in tegra stuff but the 64bit dual core Denver might be a beast. I really hope more OEM's pull their heads out of their asses and go back to beefier dual cores rather than forcing quad on us. Heck, there's very few games that take full advantage of quad and I bet it's mostly tegea optimized games. Other benefits of going back to dual core besides pure power draw of cores themselves are using the spacing for bigger channels, faster ram, more ultra low voltage co processors, or dsp's/multi dsp's which ios and android still aren't taking full advantage of. What would be really awesome is if motorola comes out with something to compete with note3. Large screen with stylus, swappable battery, 64bit dual core, Kepler k1 or adreno 420, micro SD, heck two micro SD slots while I am dreaming, wireless charging, software nav buttons and Moto's legendary reception.

I'm guessing it'll be a 5 inch FHD screen, quad core, and improved camera. The Moto X was crucified for its mid-range specs, despite calling itself a flagship phone, thus it won't be able to withstand another such release.
While many of the thoughts in this thread are correct, you have to keep in mind that the general consumer is a slave to the specs marketing game and that Motorola is struggling just to survive.

I'm not sure if I agree with that. The average techy may be obsessed with specs, but the average consumer probably buys based on price and marketing. They want a phone from a name they trust and something they can relate to. Samsung has this down. Motorola did step up their marketing, but they missed the mark. They should have played up their history.

In the world of android, you need specs and/ price on your site to effectively market the phone.
If your phone is proceed like a high end phone, it better have high end specifications. Otherwise no matter how cool the phone is, how well it performs, it is difficult to market it.
See how many dumb @$$ reviews are there on popular shopping portals complaining about dual core CPU of Moto X.
Moto G is on the other hand received overwhelmingly positive reviews on same sites due to it's price and praises for its quad core CPU.
Hell there are multiple people complaining about moto x not being value for money when compared to "Quad core" Moto G..
Lot of techies who understood the potential of Moto X got it. Not masses.

I don't know. Most non-techy people I talk to never mention specs. They just want a "deal" on the newest Samsung phones. Because they don't want an apple phone and Samsung has marketed themselves as the anti-iphone. Just like the original Droid which had much success.

I love the X as I do my favorite shaving razor the Bic Metal. These are still available in Europe & on Amazon. They lossed market share for the same reason-humble appearance.

Should i Buy the Moto x?

Hi guys, i'm not sure what to do. I Bought a Galaxy S4 four months ago and while it is quite a good phone, i broke the screen (it's pretty fragile) and after i changed the digitalizer, It's not the same anymore. Colors aren't as good as before, and also i got "ghost touches". I'm going to sell the S4 too because i want something more compact. While the 5 inch screen is great for use, i'm going to buy a 10" tablet so i would like something more compact as my primary phone, and for everything else i would have the tablet.
Now, i'm not sure what phone should replace my S4. I was wondering if the Moto G because i love how bright the LCD screen is, but the camera is a bit on the low (compared to S4), and G is a little bit chunky. The biggest pro is its price, just 200$ for 16GB version.
Another option for me was the Moto X. Is more compact, more refined and upscale than Moto G, 4.7" is the "sweet spot" for many, and have nice features like the active notifications, and touchless control. Moto X is at 300$ on Amazon right now. Supposedly both G and X are going to receive Android L update.
I used my S4 mainly for web-browsing. I can trow 20 tabs at once in Chrome and the Snapdragon 600 handles it pretty good. Also i occasionally use it for photos, mainly for documents from college. I love the contrast in AMOLED screens but i don't like how dim they are compared to LCD (Although newer AMOLED such as S5 features the best from both worlds).
Also I was wondering if this phone are too old, maybe there's a new Moto G coming, or what about Moto X.
What can you recommend me?

Soon there will be successor to Moto X, every year theres a new model. Its running old processor though(S4 pro) but its very smooth

The X and the G are both great phones! If you can afford the X, obviously its the better choice. But the G is nice too. Lacks the X features tho.

honestly u should def go with the moto x will will just be more satisfied I just got mines a few days ago I lucked up and got the dev model also unlock and I am loving it
and I both iPhone and android user believe me when I say I leave the 5s in the car many times this phone gets it done

This is very true. The S4 Pro is the name that many chipsets from 2012 used, but the CPU and GPU are very much 2013 technology. The CPU is an S4 Pro (similar to N4), but it's got Krait 300 cores (same cores used in Snapdragon 600, N4's S4 used Krait 200 -- N5 uses Krait 400). GPU is Adreno 320 (same as used by N4 and GS4, N5 uses Adreno 330 -- for comparison). I think also worth noting is that the 720p screen will age better on these specs than a phone with a 1080p screen (in terms of how much HW muscle is required to push info to the display).
You probably know this info -- just trying to give the OP as much info as possible on their decision.
I use a Moto X and really appreciate it (again -- very smooth). It might be worth it to see if concrete info on the X+1 comes out soon, but if rumors are true it will be bigger, and will obviously cost a lot more (which certainly makes a difference if you are planning to purchase outright).

Where I live, you can get the Moto X 16GB for the same price for the Moto G 16GB, but the phone is really worth it. I bought my Moto X less than a week ago and I'm totally loving it, it's quick, feels great in the hand and never lags.
If you take too many pictures though, you might feel disappointed. The camera ain't bad, it just is not good (or not as good). The pohne will most likely get updated to Android L, since Moto is currently part of Lenovo, but I don't know if they'll keep it updated after Lenovo starts to taking control over Motorola.
TL;DR: If you find it for a good price, get the Moto X, if you can get anything with a Snapdragon 800, get that.

[Q] Moto X processor up to the mark?

So I'm gonna have to buy a new phone since my GalaxtyR i9103 is dying, after almost 3 years.
Moto X (2013) is one of the phones I'm looking at - and my only concern is its processor. Does dual core 1.7 GHz processor seem good for ~2 years more? I'm also looking at Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, and both are quad core processors.
Moto X 2013 Developers' Edition, I'll buy new from Amazon.
Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, I'll buy used from Swappa.

If you are a flashaholic or like tonnes of options, get an N5.
If that's not a priority and you want a nice phone with awesome unique features... Get the X.
Aside from screen size and the above points, they are very similar.
Phone versus phone, I'd say the X is a bit better overall. But has little development, and the N5 has tonnes of development.
If your last phone was 3 years old, you'll be blown away by both of them.

Thanks a lot! I don't play games on my phone - and while I do like flashing ROMs on my GalaxyR, I flash new ROMs maybe 3-4 times a year. I think your reply makes me like the Moto X more! Root + xposed + gravitybox and I should be all set to go, I think.

I can't find a reason to switch to moto x style.
If i do it ,i will pick a device with better specs (4gb ram,sd810).
First smartphone that i can think of is oneplus two.
The new nexus device(s) are not that far away either.

I'm going for the moto style that's what it's called in UK looks great and loving the build of my N6 so the new moto x style should be awesome and the price is good..

You wouldn't pick up a Moto X because no 4gb of ram or 810 (which what good is an 810 if it had to be throttled to not overheat) or no amoled screen yet would pick up a oneplus two thats lacking.....

That's 20MP is tempting me to switch.

Grabbed the Nexus 6 originally in hopes that moto suite could be ported over. That has turned out to be pretty much a fail, so getting the moto x pure is probably the next best thing. Can't wait to get it! At this point if moto apps haven't been ported over to the nexus 6 I have a feeling it never will.

I can understand your thoughts and questions.
1)Nothing beats the deep blacks of amoled display.I get it that nexus's 6 display is not calibrated but i don't care that much.My projector needs to be calibrated, the screen of my phone doesn't have to (my opinion).I choose infinite contrast than accurate colors.Basically i prefer to have both , but samsung devices lost me as a customer since the implementation of knox counter.
2)sd810 is way better than 808 even if it throttles.My previous flex 2 did throttle but only in benchmarks.Had no impact on real life usage or gaming.The andreno of the 810 is a beast compared to the one of 808.You need that power when you have to deal with qhd screens.Also oneplus promised a better tuned sd810 for oneplus two model.
3)The oneplus 2 doesn't have quick charging but it charges relatively quick (early reports) and i personally never used nfc.Oneplus two will probably have better battery life performance than motorola style.
4)Will miss the dual speakers,and would like an sd card, i admit it
5)Camera performance was never that great on a Motorola device and more mpixels will not make guaranteed difference.I trust more the one on oneplus two (had oneplus one before)
6)I am from Europe , usually we don't depend that much on carriers .
7)Invite system sucks , but if you need one, you will get it easily.
8)The oneplus (and nexus 6) have great support on xda with unlocked bootloader and no warranty loss.
I am not saying that style is a bad device, not at all.I am just not receiving the "flagship" feeling of the other devices (no amoled , no 4gb ram , no sd810).For my needs, the nexus 6 is still the better one.

am looking to change out my Razri which is showing some wear and tear for a moto G 3rd gen
Have been waiting for Motorola to release a compact phone (4.5 inch) successor to the Razri but nothing appears in the pipeline as yet
'Androidinsanity' had a thread last year comparing the Razri to the moto G 2nd gen and the consensus appeared to be that the Razri still edged it
Does the same hold against the 3rd gen Moto G?
any thoughts appreciated

the Moto G is Bigger, has slower cores, but 4 of them, same 1gb RAM, thicker, not as nice to look at (IMHO) - I'm sticking to the Razr I for now, as long as "new" battery settles down - or I can score a good deal on a Z3 Compact - which is certainly better

Moto G 3° Gen.. is a very great phone...always updated...very smooth,battery good, nice shots on camera

Moto G 3th Gen is superior. It has Android 5.0+ and maybe will have 6.0.
The problem I see on Razr I is the fact that the architecture is x86. With ART, the program have to be prepared to be converted to ART, making the upgrade for Lollipop difficult. The phone is great, specially if you are using Hazou's CM11. It runs smooth, but if you have too much processes at time, it will stuck, unlike MotoG.
Hope this explanation help you in your decision.

You can see the Zenfone 2 32GB, with 4GB RAM. I have it, and the performance is overkill (I use the Atom Z3580 2.3GHz processor @1.25GHz to save some battery with no lags). It have stock Android 5.0 and CM12.1 (Android 5.1.1) under development, and has Android M upgrade confirmed.
Moto G 3rd Gen is powered by a Snapdragon 410 (four Cortex A53) clocked at 1.4GHz. I have a smiliar phone, Moto E 2015. The UI is snappy, but when I need more power, the Snapdragon suffer. AND, before all, most Moto G 3rd Gen versions have only 1GB RAM, and even with ZRAM, only a Facebook app can slow down the phone so much. I think Moto X 2nd Gen (Snapdragon 801 @2.5GHz) or Moto X Play could be better alternatives.
