Question. Buying a G4. - T-Mobile LG G4

Currently in the process of selling my s7 and I'm looking to buy a g4. In USA for T-Mobile.
My question is which firmware should I look for before buying. In regards to rooting/recovery/downgrading which firmware is best?
Thanks in advance guy.

well if you are in america or USA. get the h811 this one can be unlocked bootloader.. the rest cant.. only the H815 international for some countries can also be unlocked bootloader...
before buying you should know tha LG G4 suffers from bootloop issue. its a hardware defect.. that needs the motherboard changed.. try getting phone made in this year with the 3 first digits starting from 6XX the higher the better.. alot of phone bootloop even if they were made this year..
as for firmware. LP battery last longer. to unlock bootloader you must be on 20i.. firmware.. those 2 are V2 antirollback you can update or downgrade from this 2.. if phone has 20o then you stuck ther thats the latest but its V3 antirollback downgrading willl brick phone...

Wow. Thank you very much for all that. I didn't know about the bootloop problems.

So I found one on Craigslist. It's on 20i on marshmallow.
So regarding the bootloop, he said he got a warranty replacement on his original g4 but for another reason, but the manufacturer date for the replacement he got is 507 which he said he received a few weeks ago. So I'm wondering if this replacement would have the bootloop fixed. Any thought on this?

Thanks for that.
Yea. Been on it all day. As much as I want it. I don't think it's worth it to have to worry about that. That's shouldn't have to be a problem, sucks for all the people that went and currently going through it. Probably going to pass this up.
Thanks you two.

Unlocking Bootloader and Warranty Return

Just out of interest, has anyone unlocked their bootloader and then successfully had their device repaired under warranty?
Read this forum. It appears that people have better luck with a warranty repair instead of exchanging the device when the bootloader is unlocked.

I'm waiting to see how this works out for me. I sent my bootloader-unlocked Nexus in because I had dust under the screen. Also... I'm kinda sick of the unlocked padlock appearing on the screen every time I turn my phone on. I hope they relock it as I can root it without unlocking it anyway now. I'll let you guys know how it works out for me.
I opted for the swap when my Nexus One was acting up and my bootloader was unlocked and everything. After they received my old unit, I checked the status site and it shows: "Service is complete. Please visit HTC Customer Survey if you would like to take a quick survey regarding your experience contacting HTC.". They also took the hold off my credit card as well so I think everything is all good!
I sent mine in for repair with an unlocked bootloader and no problems.
Just got mine back today with an unlocked bootloader that was rooted and running a custom recovery with FRF93. No charge whatsoever! An HTC rep told me that they run the phone through a software test that is supposed to determine whether you unlocking/rooting the phone caused the issue. If they deem that you weren't at fault EVEN IF you did unlock/root then they repair the phone free of charge. Otherwise you're at fault and they will charge you.

Hey Ricky was your bootloader still unlocked when you got your phone back?
Nope. Came back locked.
Just got my Nexus One back from HTC. It was bootloader unlocked, but I had installed ERD79 and had everything in the condition in which I originally received it. It came back with a locked bootloader and ERE27 (The 1st official OTA update.) I have now rooted it without unlocking the bootloader and am running CM6 RC1.
Would there be anyway to replace it, then get a fresh and new device?
whats getting me is the fact you guys are missing something here.. you have unlocked the bootloader and get it back locked! so either they jus switch the mobo on the n1 and flashed the original first release rom( seems to be the simple and most likely option)
OR there is an actual way to relock the bootloader that has not been found, to think if there is the way to do this, this will actually save lots of ppl that did software damage and still want to get warranty with you getting charged or getting denied!

Unlocked bootloader status?

When I go into my developer options I see "Enable OEM Unlock". I was under the impression that this allowed us to unlock our bootloader's.
If this isn't true, will an unlocked bootloader ever be announced for the g4?
It not gonna happen only hope is if someone finds a hole. Like bump with the g3. But over a year old prob not gonna happen.

Why don't we try to get someone that has an unlocked bootloader for the G4 like the international version to dd the bootloader partititon and then upload it here. Then we just dd it back to our Sprint G4 using root. It might not work and lg tools will probably detect the phone as the international version but it is worth a try. I am willing to try it... But first I need to get my hands on a LS991 G4.

lg g4 sprint is *****y, i dont have any insurance, i am using it in other country, or i might have tried it. I already bricked it like 20 times, and last brick was so hectic, when eventually i recovered from it. we need laf partition i guess, if you have insurance and warranties? why not try it?

Ive tried a few diffrent ways a while back. If u nuk your laf partition u can load fastboot but it doesnt reconize any commands. The the bootloader unlock code is unique to each device. All bootloader partition are encrypted with a 64 bit key.which is the unlock.bin lg sends u. 64 bit security is bassicly uncrackable.

The unlock for g4s wont come in modified partition in my opinion. It will be a work around that the bootloader will think what ever images being flashed are officialy signed by lg hence secure boot errors.
Nothing is impossible. Just highly unlikely. All the greatest of minds and devs have moved on. No one wants to work this hard to do it. Imo. I think are only hope lies in someone cracking the g5. Then may also work on older models. But from the looks g5 is locked down even tighter.

I went as far as trying internat Firmwares modified. Nogo. I have looked and compared coding on unlocked and locked bootloaders and cant be done just by hacks. If u were to get internat firmware to boot still have to give lg the unlock code and iemi Which they have in a database and comes back to a sprint varient

Now no one please dont take me as since i cant do it no one can. In no way am i saying this. Im saying i have tried many of the methods and all end in fails
@TheMadScientist420 you are doing a great job. I too believe in same. ""Nothing is impossible. Just highly unlikely" , I wasted so many hours on lg g4 to get band unlocked . I reached so close, but .. lg, sprint :S lg sucks.
LOOK at htc 10, phone isnt in the market properly and they already have rom and bootloader unlocked even on verizon which doesnt support official bootloader unlock.. lg sucks big time. I like my lg g4 but i am waiting for htc 10 price reduction.
Ive beek kickin it old skool on my international note 1. And a few more i buy sell trade phones of all sorts not much for phone shops in my area so i do quite well but even general public for some reason wont buy my g4 even with 6 month lg warranty left.
I want another g3. Thats where lg started losin it. I still got my g2. But its more a sentimental phone now i keep put up

its 100% true. LG, lack of marketing, locked bootloader, poor strategies probably killing LG.
I trade phones, too,i buy phones from usa probably sprint, verizon, uscellular phones, but unfortunately, lg upset me. very few people actually want it.
few days ago i compared it side by side with note 5, i was surprised display quality looks much more better then note 5, front camera also better. back camera distant views were much more clear on lg g4. sound of lg g4 was better :s i guess except battery backup, lg g4 was worth then samsung note 5

Marshmallow MCG24 unlock bootloader root etc?

So I bought the phone just now. Paid quite a lot because they don't exist in my country , but I've wanted it since it got out, and it's in like brand new condition so ehhh, why not I said..
Just checked and phone is on Marshmallow 24.81.5quark_verzion.verzion.enUS
Tried Kingroot and sunshine to at least achieve temproot , they both failed.
What are my options right now here?
Thanks!
No unlock options right now if you are on stock 6.0.1 with a locked bootloader.

Thanks for reply! I guess I'll just live with it. Iphone in motorola's body lol. But for discussions sake, any way to downgrade? I know flashing bootloader triggers the "fuse" but I was succesfull with some weird bootloader downgrades in the past wtih 201M (Japanese softbank version of Razr M) and IS12M (JP KDDI version of Droid Razr).
Only problem is, this phone is way to expensive for me to experiment..

Hmmmm... then you were very lucky because gospel around here is you can never downgrade the Motorola bootloader. If you could downgrade bootloader, then everyone would go back to version where Sunshine worked! First Sunshine worked on Lollipop SU4TL-44 (November 2015), then everyone who procrastinated rushed to take SU4TL-49 (May 2016), hoping it was Marshmallow. Nope, it was just a Verizon "security" update to stop Sunshine from working. They had SIX MONTHS to unlock their bootloader and they didn't do it! Then everyone complained and said if only Sunshine worked on "49", they wouldn't procrastinate anymore. BOOM. A few months later (july 2016) Sunshine found another exploit and it works also on Lollipop "49".
But we are STILL seeing people now taking the Marshmallow OTA (November 2016) without unlocking bootloader first. Not you, you said you bought it with it already installed...
One of the Sunshine team members said he briefly glanced at the 6.0.1 OTA and it might not be impossible to unlock the bootloader. But no promises and no ETA. I don't think this phone is a high priority anymore. This is now a 2-year old phone. Still GREAT, but other newer phones get attention. There's been Sunshine for it since November 2015 and most everyone who wants it has had a chance to get it.

Yeah I read whole how to unlock bootloader thread, from 1st to last page but havent' seen anything marshmallow specific so I opened this topic..
Yeah , I was also surprised, but I spent around 1 month working on it , and it was only working with specific firmwares (fastboot files).
Yeah I wish I checked little more about that issue , I would check phones OS and probably not buy when I see it's MM.. Oh well, no going back now.. Thought that verzion's control freak behavior stopped by the time of droid turbo( used some verzion motorola phones in the past) especially when google bought motorola.
I hope people don't see this phone as outdated, because there is no way it can be called that. Many people including myself figured it like a replacement for nexus , and I think it deserves at least root exploit..
Also asked in Sunshines thread about support for marshmallow , got rather unclear response:
Me:Will there be support for droid turbo on marshmallow? Just purchased the phone, didn't know unlocking bl was possible only on lolli... Thanks
jcase: Known at this point,
EDIT: damn I write yeah a lot lol. P.s if mods want to delete topic because it's useless, feel free. Thanks!
EDIT 2: By checking system updates looks like phone was updates 3 days ago so 1 day before I bought it .. Arrrghhhh!!!
BTW I just remembered, "old" Droid 's ( xt910 ,xt912 etc) bootloader was never ever unlocked , but there was a way around it. Safestrap recovery by Hashcode , which I'm sure you all know about. The project is scraped because dev is busy , but I really wonder if anything like that is possible on droid turbo. I also wonder how does it work exactly and what gets bypassed.
From users standpoint: you installed apk which then installed recovery that "bypassed" locked bootloader and allowed you to install /load custom roms, kernels , radios , root etc.. You could even install more OS's at same time like on another "partitions".
hm...

sorry for keeping this post alive, but i really really miss Safestrap when i had the Moto Droid Razr, you could have up to 4 different ROMs installed and it took minutes to swap between them. Man those were the good ole days haha

I remember being frustrated about never-unlockable bootloader while using safestrap at same tame and then realised, hey wait! What do I need unlocked bootloader anyway , everything works perfect and functionality is even better than on most modded phones (at the time).
Having something like this on droid turbo would make it a perfect phone in my opinion, and for years to come.. Wonder whats the dev's view on droid turbo on that..
Anyway I was playing a little, all within "safe zones" regarding the downgrading . With litlle modding I could flash bootloader.img from QUARK_VERIZON_5.1_SU4TL-49_cid2_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip and most of partitions related to bootloader I collected from various locations, all from SU4TL but it's obviously not important..
So basically what I can't flash to downgrade is :
gpt.bin
boot.img
system files (system,img_sparsechunk.0 , 1 , 2 etc).. I will investigate more.
Started finally actually using phone , all bloatware can be disabled, so it's actually pretty ok for now. Phone feels awesome ..
Mods , please delete this topic in purpose of cleaning, I'm gonna open 2 topics regarding downgrading experiment and making SBF of new Marshmallow OTA

only thing that comes to my mind is that your phone is not a h811......
plastic and software says it is. but maybe your motherboard could be h810...
if you cant find a fix for this.. open it up search for dissasembled video of LG G4 and take motherboard out physically.
and read the plaque variant model... maybe its not h811 thats why it might say its locked..
or return it.
