Okay, the problem is -- I recently installed a theme on my internal storage, and no matter what I do, it doesn't want to uninstall. I tried going to start-settings-syystem-remove programs, but it didn't work. I tried running the cab file and letting it uninstall but it didn't work. So, i think the only other option is a hard reset. But, i want to back up everything on my internal storage. However, if i backup everything then restore, the theme will still be 'installed' correct? All i want from this is the theme uninstalled. I have the cab files of my other programs so i could easily load them up after the hard reset. I do want to keep my pictures and videos etc. Any ideas on how to accomplish this?
If you do a hard reset it will leave your internal storage intact, with no programs, or themes installed, you can then safely remove whatever folders/files it created on your internal storage when you installed it.
However you will need to reinstall each of you proggies as well that you need.
Maybe you could change the file extension, that could help if you want to delete the file.
I want to clear my internal storage with my hard reset, so if I save my backup file onto my internal storage, won't the backup file be deleted?
yes.....back things up on your pc if you are deleting both device and internal storage. PC backup is crucial anyway.
A hard reset won't clear your internal memory as well, you'll need to format that using the phone.
Well i want to format the internal storage so I have to go to start-settings-system-clear storage? But before that I probably should send everything to my PC so I can just send it to my phone after, correct?
Steps
1) send everything to your pc
2) after the transfer, begin to delete files from Internal using your PC
3) hard reset phone (will bring you back to manufactures specs with what ever rom you have)
Would i delete files from internal via my PC with ActiveSync? That doesn't seem to work for me half of the time.
To get the fastest response, when you connect the usb cable choose the Disk option, this will load the internal memory as a memory stick / flash drive in your My Computer, from there you can backup what you need and then format the drive. Putting it in Disk Mode is more or less same as ActiveSync but syncs direct with the internal memory chip so allows for faster file transfer
Steps one and two completed. Should I do a hard reset and press volume down instead of volume up? Or shouls i clear storage?
If you have backed up what you need, format the internal storage from either your PC or phone, then do the Hard Reset. Once done your back to square one, out of the box type with your phone.
I remember having a similar problem when I was trying to install a clock...
No matter how I tried to remove it, it just wouldnt remove completely. The name was no longer appearing in the "Remove Programs" list but there were still bits and pieces of the clock on my today screen...
Eventually, I just installed another clock over it and when I went to remove this new clock, it seems the uninstall process also removed the junk that was left over from my initial install... Everything was back to normal after that and I didnt need to do a hard-reset...
Maybe give that a go...
Did the clear storage, and walah the theme is gone. And opera now works. Thanks guys.
Glad you got it sorted mate, love how HTC make there devices so easy to manage, with some other phones if that had happened, you would be stuck.
Yet with the HTC I can flash ROM's as often as I like to try different ones, etc, almost change them as often as I reinstall my desktop and pc with all the beta testing I do. Nicely done HTC.
I feel stupid, I really do! Normally I ALWAYS backup my data. Two days ago I had to reinstall me PC due to a harddisk crash (did have backups though, except for Outlook, since I use IMAP).
Unfortunate, I did not yet found time to sync my TD with outlook since the reinstall.
Today, I turned on my TD (turned it off last night the normal way), and the device wouldn't boot. It shows the bootloader, so my guess is a corrupt ROM image. Anyway, I tried soft and hard reset, but nothing worked, so it seems I have to reflash the ROM.
Will this erase the phonebook?
Yes, after flashing is like having a "new" phone.
I am not sure whether it will work in the bootloader mode but try to connect your phone via usb and try to access to the memory to save the respective file(s).
Good luck!
You wont be able to access the pim file (which contains all your outlook data and messages etc) by connecting it in bootloader mode, also if you did a hard reset you wiped all info off the Diamond anyway ,but if i were you i would start using pocket pim backup to backup all your contacts to sd card then if this happens again you will always have a copy to restore.
Take it as a lesson learnt , the hard way
P.S. When you say your hard drive crashed? exactly how do you mean? it crashed, did you have to replace the drive or just told windows to repair itself , on the original drive. which version of windows was it you reinstalled? if it was windows vista or 7 all your old files would have been placed in a folder called windows.old. Obviously this is only if you havent formatted the drive first and it is the original drive and not a replacement
I have lots of chats on my WeChat and I haven't online backup my WeChat (Phone unable to connect to Internet due to HOSTS file problem), right now I put all my Apps to SD card. I was wondering if I am able to recover all the apps after hard reset?
Thank you.
Use this, may work : AppDataMgr_Debug_AnyCPU.xap. Apps already instaled on sdcard will be erased at first step to install apps to sdcard...... but data backuped by this xap no.
I backed up my entire phone into SD card and factory rest my phone. After restoring the data i found out the safe folder images, video, documents are all done. How do i find them or rather recover them? I found the folder which it should be saved in the SD card but it doesn't have any data. Please advice.
If there are no files they are gone.
Probably something went wrong and the backup never got stored on your SDCard and there is no way to recover wiped files from an android phone, maybe there is a way but its probably expensive as hell!
hello , recently i took a full backup of my device, but when i wanted to restore the files i backed-up to my phone (had to do it manually) , the transfer process suddenly stops without any message of the cause , since its a 10GB in size i thought if i transfer them one by one it might work , but some files when i copy them and go to paste them in the phone internal storage , I hear a sound and nothing happens , it wont get copied , and windows doesn't give me any message about it, i even tried i files transfer program ( Easy File Renamer ) and it wont allow me to copy files to my phone either, I'm still able to copy other files like a photo or a song , but some of the folders i backed-up has this issue.
-I'm using Windows 10
-no SD card , its a direct transfer to the phone's internal storage
-edit : i try to transfer the folders as a whole
-there is a screenshot of the ( easy file renamer ) program
