I'm curious as to why the Note 5 bootloader can't be unlocked to allow custom roms. Can Someone point me to some documentation or otherwise explain the complexity involved in the process it would take to get this thing unlocked? If someone could point me to some in depth documentation on how bootloader unlocking has worked on other devices that would be greatly appreciated. Do we just not have enough people with this device to put the time into something like this? If I would have known I couldn't get cyanogenmod on this phone I never would have bought it. Any information on this subject is greatly appreciated.

If you boot into download mode and see that it says:
CROM Service: Locked
Download and install the file CROM Service to unlock the bootloader, you can find the file in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/unlocking-bootloader-tiawanese-sm-n9208-t3434961
Once you run this program your bootloader will be unlocked and you can confirm this by going back into download mode and it should read:
CROM Service: Unlocked
At this point you can uninstall the program

Well, the Bootloader unlock thread says:
"If the simlock certificate specified is SEMC SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE, or anything other than NOT RECOGNIZED SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE, jump to step 3." - which means you have to skip step 2c
From step 3 onwards you need to READ the instructions carefully as at step 5 you have to, for example, skip step 5a
It's not exactly easy to perform, but I think the instructions are rather clear if you read what's written there and assemble intel to be able to make your way through the course of steps.
If you fail to follow instructions and chose the wrong path for your particular phone it's likely that it won't work or that you end up with severe problems.

Is your bootloader locked or unlocked?
If locked you can use kingroot to get root access and install xz dual recovery. Xzdr offer cwm and twrp as custom recovery.
With Xposed framework you can modify the framework of your phone and add new functions Sony doesn't offer.

Bootloader is locked.
I have heard that unlocking bootloader messes up with DRM keys and BIONZ.
That's why i am being cautious.
I'm considering buying a Mi Max 2 from china. It is a Chinese version, but with the global ROM preinstalled (the retailer explains that the box will have been opened to allow this). My questions then:
1) Would the retailer have had to unlock the phone via http://en.miui.com/unlock/ etc?
2) If so, I read that "fastboot oem lock" would relock it.
3) Does 3) put it back in the state before step 1) above but with the global rom (ie with find mi working, high security back)?
4) Would I need to go back to http://en.miui.com/unlock/ to unlock it again?
5) If the retailer had already unlocked the phone, does that mean the device is registered to their account? How can I get it associated to mine?
6) What does the "OEM unlocking" switch do in Developer options?

no need to unlock bootloader as long as you stay on official miui stock roms. so u can switch between china stable, china developer, global stable and global developer roms without the need for unlock

That's good to know!
Generally is unlocking irreversible, or does the fastboot command put it back to its initial state?

u can relock the bootloader. however, since u need permission for unlocking the BL, it might be difficult to get repeated unlcoking permission from xiaomi for the same device. so if u decide to unlock it, just leave it so until u sell it...

Hello, I have a problem with my Realme X2 Pro, it does not detect the baseband, I also have a message that says "LTE EARFCN IS LOCK", it does not detect any of the IMEI, IMEI1=0 and IMEI2=0, and because of everything This does not work for me almost any phone service.
This problem happened to me when I updated to "Realme UI 2.0", it stayed in bootloop and I managed to recover it, I tried to download the version c.27 and with realme flash tool, flash the ofp version, but I continued with the same problems.
I have unlocked the bootloader and the original recovery works, right now I'm on version C.32
Is there any way to recover the baseband and put the IMEI, I have the 2 IMEI numbers, I don't know if there is any way to put them on the phone again.
Hi bro, I had the same problem on my old device a year ago, the only solution for that was to go to realme center they'll 100% fix it, but main while I don't have realme centers in my country so I put it aside.
there another way to fix it by change the chip that imei written on with another one from any broken x2 pro or change the whole motherboard.
so if you have an unknown baseband then you have no way to connect the device to the internet, then how did you unlock bootloader without internet? mine is locked and i can't access bootloader or recovery screen.
while you're bootloader unlocked, you can try root the device and try to write on protected read only partitions (on your own risk).

Hello, I already had the bootloader unlocked before it happened, although the internet connection thing I managed to solve it by doing a "fastboot erase modemst1 / modemst2", and thanks to that I managed to regain access to almost all the features, although I still have the problem of the IMEI and the Baseband, now detect the SIM card, but the operator of the telephone company does not detect me, because the IMEI has not been repaired.
Right now I'm stuck here, I just need a way to get the IMEI repaired and hope that with that I can recover the Baseband.
I use rom2box to flash the unzipped file ofp
then my phone start but no imei
I can't unlock bootloader, can't enter fastboot mode
I called realme center but they can't fix it
Does anyone know how to help? please

Here is the guide to bypass bootloader & install twrp https://romprovider.com/realme-x2-pro-rmx1931-bootloader-unlock-unofficial/
but even after restoring the efs IMEI not work to solve this first we select erase efs option in rom2box v3.0 once done we flash twrp on locked bootloader once it in twrp we restore efs or qcn backup (make sure it's from same phone)
