Are there any cases that will protect the screen from drops? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Accessories

I just picked up a regular S7 and I'm finding the screen a little small (coming from a G3).
I'd like to try the Edge but I'm very worried about breaking the screen. I drop my phone a lot (I run heavy equipment in rough environments). I have an OB Defender on my S7 now.
Are there any case options for the S7E that will really hold up to frequent abuse?
I only have a day to exchange phones so I'd really appreciate any insight.
Thanks,
TF

If you dont mind the bulky-eness the UAG is the way to go! Great protection and add a glass protection, since you are on rough environment.
Beware that no case will protect you if you drop it from a decent height , face down on a rock for example.
Here i have my top 5 cases for the S7

Sure. There are some ridiculous contraptions out there that wrap the phone all way round with glass, metal, plastic and whatever else they could find. Probably keeps it 'safe' if you don't mind it looking like the original Motorola brick phone .

Aesthetics is the absolute last thing I'm worried about...
I just require a large screen phone with the best specs and longest battery life possible.
I don't require it to be pretty.

From what I've read there's not a single glass screen protector made for the S7E that actually works properly. Does your experience suggest otherwise?

In my experience, nothing is 100% drop proof..
I had my iPhone 6s which i use as a second work phone, drop from 20 cm @ the swimming pool shattered at 2 corners wearing a glass shield. Had it fallen many many times from ear height, and nothing happened..
**** happens.
Yeah on the Edge phones, solutions on glass protections are limited. I ve tried a no-name glass, which left the sides uncovered, and where the glass curves left a small but noticable gap. Threw it @ 1 day .
I ll be ordering a Skinomi shield skin which in my past experience with the Note Edge worked really really well and curved nice without being noticed. Now i ran an IQ shield which i ll be replacing cause the case lifts the edges after 1 week of use.

Otterbox and I hate otterbox. I have dropped this phone s7 edge 4 times and every time it's been perfect.

Otterbox Defender. As frustrating as the screen protector is, you just have to try to get used to it
VZ S7 EDGE ONYX

I'd recommend the Otterbox Commuter Series. I've had it on my S7 edge from day one and its taken a fair few drops from 5ft onto hardwood/concrete/tiles. Phone is perfect, case is a lil roughed up but you gotta look closely to notice it.
The screen is raised above the floor by rubber 'lips'. Headphone and Charging ports are covered by flaps.
The Commuter does not have the bulk of the Otterbox Defender. Commuter offers great protection IMO.

I ended up getting both the Defender and the Commuter.
I think the Defender will stay on most of the time, unless crap gets in between the screen protector and the phone like the defenders did on my other phones... it does seem to have a tight fit, though.... we'll see.
I liked the Commuter but I couldn't find a screen protector that worked well with it.

Ghost armors screen protectors on my edge working great with the Spigen 2-layer w/ kickstand.. it is wet application though, best get it applied at a cart in the mall

Otterbox Strada is nice enough to be my daily phone protector - feels tough for the job without extra bulkiness of Defender.

agree with this one. plus this case holds down the edges of screen protectors and works with wireless charging.

Check the ballistic urbanite cases. Really slim with 6 feet drop certification.I'm really happy with it

If that's the requirement and you don't depend on any of the Samsung specific features, get a Pixel XL with the fattest toughest case you can find. It is the pinnacle of large screen meets best performance meets long battery life.

Buy this case. I took the built in screen protector out and use a Zagg invisible screen HD because it's softer and would absorb more if hit. This case has the most raised edges out of all the cases I've seen. It's duel layered and I've dropped my phone about 20 times and some on concrete and no damage.

Defender or Commuter?

hey all, i was set on ordering the commuter but started reading into the defenders but ive heard the screen protector can be a pain and that would annoy me
what are your thoughts on both
Hated the defenders inbuilt screen protector, scratched real easy and got stuff caught under it. The commuter has pretty good protection and comes with a free stick on screen protector?
Sent from my GT-N7105T using Tapatalk 2
I toyed with both, both screen protectors are pretty bad. I forgot the brand, but there is a real good one people seem to use and get off amazon.
That being said, the cases themselves are both good. All depends on how protective you want to be over the phone.
I think the commuter unless you really need the protection the defender offers.
i currently have a spigen oleophobic screen protector on it so not too fussed about the one with the commuter, will keep it as a spare for emergencies, i have read that its a bit loose around the volume buttons as it doesnt have the outer shell to keep it in place (commuter)
It's a tiny bit loose around that volume area. I have a commuter and don't regret it at all, hurry up and order it so it gets to you quicker.

I was on the same boat with you. Usually I go for the top spec case but this time I ordered the commuter. I did this for 3 main reasons. The defender looks like great protection but it makes the phone much bigger especially thickness wise. Also it hides almost everything except for the screen so all the beauty of the phone disappears behind plastic. And last and more important the screen protector looks terrible and with all these wholes it lets everything under it and in touch with the screen. You can always remove it and replace it with another protector but then there maybe parts of the upper shell touching the screen which I dont like.
I have the defender... im not using it right now but bought it for when I am back out on site in the dust/rain/dirty hands and big risk of dropping it or someone else knocking it onto the floor. I had it on the phone for a while but its too big for daily use if you dont need the protection.
The inbuilt screen protector is easily removed and to me makes it a whole let better.

Once you remove the screen protector how is the inside of the upper shell? Is it smooth or can it scratch the phone?
ive ordered it, cant for it to arrive, i went for the commuter
Just got my Defender in tonight. I like it so far. I bought it after seeing my aunt's. Not a huge fan of the built in screen protector. Might pop that off later.
the only bit i dont like about the commuter is where it hasnt got the outer case, i think the outer case cover it all like the defender does but ill see when i get it, if you take the protector out does bits of dust/crap get inside the case? just something i was reading
Both... I have both... normally use the Commuter cause it is slimmer, but like the Defender alot too cause it has morr grip.

While I love the protection the Defender provides, after using it for about 3 hours it's a tad too bulky. The Commuter might have been a better choice, but it wasn't Prime Eligible.

Wow what a deal on the Glacier, which they made Knight color for the Commuter :crying:
both have its pros and cons. tested both and opted for the commuter due to its slimmer profile. just a heads up that there are numerous reports about the silicon sagging along the volume and power buttons on the commuter.

Thanks for the info. I din't know Otterbox had these for the Note 2. I used to have the iPhone 4S Defender case. It offered a good drip, nice protection, but the external soft material started to bend and lose its original shape after a couple of months using it. Does this have the same problem?

Where are the actual rugged cases

I came from a moto Droid X and X2 these phones were very well protected in the trident kraken and electra cases i owned over the life of those 2 phones. Everything ive seen for this beauty has been "ultra slim" or something similar offering almost no real protection. The knockoff griffin survivor seems to be the only semi rugged case ive been able to dig up, am i really the only one that wants more protection than just a backplate? I don't have small hands or wear skinny jeans, and honestly I would prefer it to add some weight and size.
The only upcoming thing that gives me hope is the possibility of the rugged zerolemon case next month. Had anyone found something out there that i missed? I need topend protection for my $700 phone and i cant find it

there are otterbox cases, uag cases and many more. there is a whole thread on cases. ebay is literally infested with cases for this phone.
Otterbox defender is about as rugged , heavy and bulky as it gets. I own one myself but cant stand how much more bulkier the phone is, I much prefer just the extra weight of the zerolemon battery and its stock tpu case. Hoping the rugged version ZL case doesnt add too much bulk and has a nice kickstand.

Otterbox uag dba casemate all make non rugged crap that lays in a pile on my desk. You cant call it protection if all you have on the front is a 1/10 inch or less raised around the edges... This is not protection and yes ebay is infested with 3 dollar cases that are flimsy and protect almost nothing.
I am asking about actual rugged cases like the knockoff griffen survivor or some "military" rugged style.

Since you mentioned the Survivor knock off, the Otterbox defender offers essentially the same level of protection. Your best bet at this stage is probably the heaviest Sedio case along with a tempered glass screen protector. Not optimal, but that's about as rugged as it gets.
I enjoyed my ballistics case before my ZL came in. Protected my phone from many countertop falls. I hoping the new ZL cases will be better than the ones that came with the battery.

I second that! Seidio CONVERT with VITREO tempered glass - a very rugged solution!!! I personally find UAG with VITREO optimal for me whenever I carry a stock battery; and with addition of CONVERT holster with stick-on card/money holder which fit UAG like a glove - that my ultimate solution for the summer (especially with mesh shorts).
But I'm looking forward to ZL rugged case, and really hope it's not going to be like that honecomb tpu junk you find for extended batteries. Keeping my hopes high ZL guys will come up with something cool!
Thanks for the Sedio tip, they only had the active and surface when I was looking the last few times, that with a glass screen protector (and maybe another normal one on top of that) and i should be good to go.
.. If the ZL rugged isnt what it should be this will most likely be what I get next

Just broke the clip on my Second otterbox belt holster .. same failure as the first . AT&T did warranty the first , we will see if they will the second next time i am upstate . Also its a constant battle taking the case apart to clean the fine dust that filters under the screen protector .

Anything over about 6 feet is really a matter of luck. I dropped my Fascinate more than 20 feet down a granite face followed by 6 feet of free fall an landing on a granite boulder. It was in a decent case (Seido Active) but there was a whole lot of luck involved in its survival too. Not a scratch on it. It sounds like you weren't as lucky. But it's very unlikely that a screen protector would have made a difference. Film screen protectors won't protect against breakage, just scratches. For falls, the tempered glass will give more protection. It would be nice to have a fully ruggedized military grade case for the Note2, but they just don't exist.
If drops are your main concern, I would carry the phone in the Hsini pouch with either the Survivor or the Seidio Convert as a case. Then add a tempered screen protector. After that, it's a matter of luck. If you drop your phone from three feet and it lands screen first on the sharp point of a piece of hard ceramic, it just doesn't matter what kind of case it has.
Yeah, I learned not to have my phone out while putting up Christmas lights...

UAG is serving me well i have dropped mine many times from bout 4 ft and had no problems and its not very bulky
Honestly the defender is junk. It has really ruined my bezel with scratch marks all over it. Had to pop out the included screen protector because it didn't even come close to laying flat on the screen and caused dust to find it's way under the screen resulting in a sand paper effect happening under the protector. Sold mine on craigslist.
I work in construction and really need the ports covered so that limits most every other case. I agree, really isn't much on the market that offers protection I honestly think I could have faith in. Will go look at the few mentioned here and hope something better comes along.
GriffIn Fakes
I got the griffin fake because I wanted something really heavy duty, I like the look and they were really cheap.
I would recommend it to anyone. I did have a few issues:
1. The screen protector is crap, but you can remove it and find a nicer one of leave it off.
2. The hole around the sensor was too small so when you took the phone away from your face during a call it would not wake up, used a pocket knife and spun in in the hole a few times and it works great now.
3. The flap that covers the camera does stay put so you have to hold it while taking a pic or remove it (I removed it)
for all the issues I asked for a credit and my final price was 6 bucks

[Q] Best Heavy Duty Case for N6

Ok so i got my N6 back in November, and one thing that is clear to me is the fact that is phone is not a caseless phone or even a TPU phone...It is extreme fragile so much so that that I broke mine 4 days after having it naked, and someone broke their with the case that I had ordered off amazon the night I brought my phone...
Even my lifestyle a TPU case is probably not going to cut it for me so I'm looking for a really good Heavy Duty Case (tragic waste of a beautiful phone)
I found these on amazon Supcase and Poetic
The Supcase have pretty good review...none for the poetic...anyone have either one that can give me a bit of insight?
Please and thank you.

I actually have the Ringke Max on now, and its only a single layer protection, also the reason I want a new case is because someone reported breaking their screen with the Ringke on...It's probably would not have broke with if he had a TGSP on (not sure if he did actually, I'm just assume here)
Just wanted a full body case, cause I really don't think Motorola would replace my phone for free again if I broke it again lol

Just saw that the Max is 2 layer...the hard layer is just built onto the soft...interesting design.

I wouldn't use the Neo Hybrid unless they fixed the extremely tight fit issue. My bumper broke in less than a week on my Spigen because of this and don't forget you can use that case with a skin. I posted pictures way back when this happened in the Spigen OP. The Slim armor is alright I still have mine because it wasn't worth paying for the shipping to return it.

I was in the USMC (got our back in 2012) so I know how it is. The field is never kind to phones, after I was in afghan my iPhone 3gs at the time managed to get sand under the screen
I have almost every case mention in this thread. I've posted pictures already but I will keep this short in sweet. Hands down best protection case is the Supcase, but it's extremely bulky. A much better option is the iblason slim. Provide excellent protection, probably 80% of the supcase, but nowhere near as bulky. I just left that case and now I'm using the S-Case because I wanted something smaller, I have moto care so if I break my phone I will get a new one. I'm thoroughly enjoying my heavy duty supcase with the holster. For the past few years I've used wallet cases on my Galaxy notes. I m happy I went this route.

Silly question, but I have to ask

I want to protect the screen from cracking on an accidental fall and I've had numerous recommendations all different from one another. I've done some research but again I've found conflicting results.
I've heard/read that a hard case is the best bet to protect the screen from breaking on a fall (seems logical), but also (logically) it will increase the thickness and width of the phone. I want to avoid that as best I can as the phone is huge already for me.
I've heard/read that a tempered glass screen protector will offer some form of protection against cracks and breaks of the glass if the phone does fall. Of course not as much as a solid hard case, but better than no cover. I've been told by one person that it will give the phone screen about 50% more strength, someone told me that it will double the strength of the screen, another told me it will do nothing.
I also read stories of having your phone 'treated' (I dont know what that means and I cant find any more info about this) whereby the glass has its strength increased to avoid breaks and cracks.
What is my best option to keep the phone slim and give the glass some kind of protection, without the use of a case? Does anyone have any kind of advice to offer?
A tempered glass protector will help some. Its hard to say how much though. It cant be quantified because screen breaks arent always from direct contact between screen and surface. Best protection would be protector AND case.
I'm getting a ringke slim case in crystal. Its pretty much the thinnest hard case. Maybe it will be slim enough for you.

Thanks for the reply; I'll look into the case you mentioned, thank you!
Yes, I thought the tempered glass protector would help but assumed it wouldn't help much/be measurable due to the different ways a phone could break.
Buy a tempered glass screen protector, i bough the one from Yootech on amazon.
Like what others have said, a tempered glass protector is what you're looking for. They're much better than plastic screen protectors.
Tempered offers better protection, feels better in the hand. The only con is that it may not cover all the edges as tempered glass is flat whereas plastic screen protectors can be curved.

Some of the big names are: Jelly Comb, Ghostek, and some others.
I'm not sure how protective a "skin" is but it could be somewhat handy, the big names would be dbrand and slickwraps.

I think the dbrand seem a bit thicker. It saved my nexus 5 from a few scratches on a pavement drop. The slick will too, but perhaps not as much. Anything more than a scratch though, it's not rally going to do anything.

My first dbrand was for the nexus 4. The nexus 4 had a glass back and I was annoyed during winter time, the back of the phone was super cold because of the glass.
I purchased a skin for the n6 for the back to prevent fingerprints. I think a awesome setup would be. Tempered glass, dbrand, slickwraps side skins.
Wish dbrand offered skins for the sides. But yeah dbrand should protect minor accidents like scratches

I haven't got a glass yet and im holding off as I like the feel of the 6 naked. I've ordered a Ringke slim in Crystal which should arrive today or tomorrow... and a carbon fibre back and sides from slickwraps. Not sure if I will like the case but it was cheap so its no loss...
I use a Unicorn Beetle case on my phone. A little bit big but you'll get used to it soon. I've dropped it about 4 times and it should have cracked about 3 times. But not a crack
Well the Slim case arrived. Actually the videos and photos dont actually do justice to how slim it is. Its really slim. BUT, it does creak a little and it scratches even using a lint cloth, which of course you need to use because if you get anything stuck between the phone and the case, you can see it a mile off.

Yep same here when I got mines. The top left creaked a bit. It's a pain in order to remove the case. I personally don't really like their slim case, the Galaxy Nexus slim case was perfect though. I go for the Ringke fusion.

I dont like any cases at all. I'm a naturist when it comes to phones, but it was £6 from Amazon so I thought "why not". It is hard to remove, but I was prepared for that after watching the video reviews in the accessories forum.
I can't say I'll keep it on, but I'll see how long I can last

I felt like I was going to break the phone with how tough it was. I eventually got it off but made my thumb get injured slightly. Not fun. I do love the fusion though. So beautiful

Yeah very nice. I'd prefer clear all round to show off skin sides. ..and a bit big for me.
Ive never been one for cases but I did runrun an urban armor gear on my s3 for a few weeks. Was massive and looked like a portable toilet haha
Thank you to all for your clarification and suggestions in this thread; I hope that others with similar questions will find this a good source as I have for a quick, simple set of answers.
At this stage I'll likely end up with a temp glass cover for one phone and a flip case for the other (partner's phone, as they've recently decided they want).

I would have done that too, I have a Crystal but the carbon fiber looked weird with the blue sides so I had a smoke black to hide the trim piece.

Case Built Like A Tank?

Suggestion for a good tank-like case for the 5X?
The iblason armor case has the most protection. It has the front bezels fully covered in plastic and a built in screen protector. I have it and it doesn't feel particularly great in hand but its worth it for the protection.

Maybe Poetic case soon. 6p has a nice one.

Another +1 for the Unicorn Beetle. I picked one up and it's fantastic.
I was alwas hesitant about the built in screen protectors for these types of cases, thinking the display might look distorted or sensitivity might be reduced.
Well this may be the case for other brands, but i am now oficially a convert. Screen looks awesome, and sensitivity is great. Supcase have done a fricking good job.
It offers very good protection (probably the best for nexus 5x), the fit is spot on....and, it has dust covers for your ports. I originally wanted a Ballistic tough jacket, but after contacting their suport i have confirmation it doesn't come with dust covers, a shame really.
This is now my 5th case (LOL) but i have finally found the right one. I nearly had a destroyed phone on my hands when i dropped it using a Ringke slim. It smashed my Spigen tempered glass, but survived.
Anyway, if you want a case that is both user friendly, looks good and most importantly built like a tank, then look no further. You won't be disapointed.

I agree with both on this case. I bought it for my 5X and love it. The fit is great, and it really doesn't add a lot of bulk or size to the phone; especially the sides and top/bottom. The thickness is probably doubled, but then the phone isn't really that thick to begin with, so the added thickness isn't too bad, in my opinion. I, too, like the built in screen protector. I could take or leave the dust covers, but that's just my personal preference.

Yes, the bulkiness is something I forgot to mention. Totally agree, it does make the phone thicker but overall doesn't feel too bulky. That's another reason I didn't go ballistic, as I heard they add a lot of bulk. As for the dust covers, I kinda need them in my line of work. There's nothing worse than plugging my phone in at night to hear a *crunch*. I've been using film screen protectors for years, and more recently tempered glass. It took a lot of debating in my head before I gave the Supcase a try. I just hope they are still making good cases like this when it comes time to upgrade my phone.
Which SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle case did you guys get? There seems to be a few variations... slim, heavy duty, etc.
I just took advantage of the Project Fi discount on the 5x, so now need accessories!
Thanks

That the same one I got; but from Amazon and at a less expensive price. I paid $17.99 for it with the holster (but I don't really use it all that much).

I concur with this-the heavy duty pro is a great case, excellent design and stout. On Amzn, people complained about dots or 'oil slick' on the protector but I'm not seeing it. can't even tell the screen protector is on. My only gripe is it shows EVERY finger print. Being matte or oleophobic would have been better but the prints are only noticeable when off. Ditto on the dust covers - great idea but I can see myself possibly getting tired of them (that's why Xacto's were made :laugh
I got the holster which is meh...not a fan of huge ass phones on your hip but it may come in handy if I need to toss my phone in a bag (e.g while on a waterpark ride)
