Hello Guys, i want to ask if i can use note 7 pen on note 5 will it work as i have lost my spen of note 5 so please reply. thanks
nope. cannot.
The S Pen from the Note 7 can in fact be used on the Note 5, but you may not be able to fit it inside the Note 5, or it may not stay inside even if it does fit.
EDIT:
The Note 7 S Pen does fit inside the Note 5, but it is a little shorter than the Note 5 S Pen and does not fit as tightly. You'd risk having the pen fall out or getting stuck too far down inside.
oh thank you friend
can you at least use the much thinner tips on the note 5 pen to get more accurate use ?

Yes all spens will always be interchangeable. I use my note 5 spen on my laptop, note 2,3,4 when working.
I bought some note 7 tips online and have put them in my note 5. They do bit - they do wiggle a bit because they are thinner, but do work!
real comparison

i have attached two photos. i bought the s-pen for note 7 yesterday. honestly, it is better in writing than note 5 s-pen. the difference isn't that big, but since i use it to take note on my note pro 12.2, i can surely say there is a difference.
it can still fit in the slot, but since it is shorter, it might get stuck and i don't recommend putting it into note 5 slot, if u wanna buy it as an extra-pen , i would recommend that, it is very very very accurate in writing as if u r using a real pen. 10\10
check the attached photos
oh thanks buddy will definitely buy the Note 7 pen
I also want to have that Note7 S-Pen.
I'm from the Philippines, can anyone help where I can buy one?
I've already looked online, but just saw on Amazon only, it's international.
I prefer buying locally.

I just downgraded to the Note 5 after returning my Note 7. I lost the stylus within 72 hours to my new Note 5. Luckily, I am able to use my Note 7 stylus; however, it doesn't fit inside the phone. I've ordered a new stylus from Amazon. Not really happy at spending more money for a phone I didn't want.

Is your Note 5 S pen in the phone when you tried to use the Note 7 S pen? If so, take it out and see if the Note 7 S pen works. If so, then all you need to do is go into settings, S Pen and turn off S Pen power saver. You can then use any S pen with your Note 5 even if the Note 5 S pen is still inside the phone.

excellent tip.... although it works as long as no pen in slot with power saving on
now I'll keep note 7 spen before I return note 7 to Samsung....
now if I could only place it safely in the note 5slot... any ideas?

I feel like I finally got the best of both worlds by putting the Note 7 tip on my Note 5 stylus. I love the more precise tip, plus I enjoy the slightly thicker feel of the Note 5 stylus.
Only problem is i will one day run out of these tips and have no way to replace them.
I have a Note Pro 12.2. If I use S-pen from Note7 on my note pro 12.2, will S-pen work properly?
I think it would work on the Note 5. The Note 7 s-pen even worked on my Note 3 when I tried it. It works a lot better than my Note 3 pen.
But I didn't try putting it in the slot. I wouldn't want it to get stuck.

Hi all,
I hope I am posting in the correct section.
Yesterday I gave a try on a new Live Demo Unit of Samsung Galaxy Note 8 S-Pen. The new S-Pen has thinner point and gives better precision when writing.
Tried to use Note 8 S-Pen on my Note 5 device, it also works fine on my Note 5.
You can see the difference of the precision between the S-Pen of Note 8 (below) and my Note 5 (above) on my phone in the attached image. Note 8 pen is precise and thin, my Note 5 pen is thick and leaky.
At this point in time, the price of Note 8 in Europe is still out of my common sense of smartphone price. So I might wait for the price to be reduced even if it doesn't come with the Dex Dock. Meanwhile its new S-Pen which also works fine on my Note 5 makes me crave for it.
I have not got chance to try to change the tip of my S-Pen with Note 8 tip. So, my question is, do you know if I can somehow increase the precision of my Note 5 or earlier Samsung Notes S-Pen by only changing the tip, or I need to buy Note 8 S-Pen as well?
I think the new pen is just a better pen. I know the note 7's pen was noticeably better than the note 5's pen that I had as a loaner device briefly. In fact, the note 5's worse pen was one of the reasons that when I had to give up my note 7 I didn't stick with a note device. The note 5 was just a huge step backwards. Unfortunately, I don't think it'll be a simple tip change, but you'd have to buy the whole pen, and then it wouldn't fit inside your phone anymore.
Curious if Spen from note 9 will be compatible with Note8

If you're talking about the button, to push to launch camera and take photos and such, then no. The pen sends a trigger to the phone via bluetooth and the firmware on the phone then translate them to certain functions. It won't work out of the box, but it might be possible to port the features through custom ROMS. I'm not 100% on that, though.
With a custom ROM maybe, but it won't be able to charge. It should work as a normal Spen though, so if you dig the bright yellow (why?) you can use it for aesthetic reasons. No bluetooth functions on stock though, and no charging.
The BT S Pen is pretty useless to me. I would never pull my S Pen and take a shot I can just use bixby voice for camera.
Pretty curious too id love to get my hands on that yellow spen and put it in my note 8 xd because i think we would be able to port most of the features of the note 9 with a custom rom im only wondering could we be able to use the new spen ?
This is a pretty dumb question lmao... you think Samsung would allow Note 8 users to buy the S pen separately and have it work on the note 8? That defeats the whole purpose of the hardware changes in the note 9.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Note9 SPen is a tiny, tiny bit bigger than the Note8's, so it might not fit in the SPen dock. Also, as niallasher said, it won't be able to charge on your Note8, so it would be pretty pointless, anyway. You'd need a Note9 to charge it, in which case, you might as well get and use a Note9.
The new note 9 spen has a capacitor in it that is charged when inside the note 9 itself. I would doubt that charge port would exist in the note 8, then you would end up with just a yellow spen.

Probably not. If you want to use the Note 9's Spen features then no. It will probably work as a regular Spen
I tried in a Samsung store the Note9 s Pen and no detection on my Note8. I could try everything, trigger Air command or just use it to swipe pages, it doesn't work. I think that it can't be used on older Note devices
Yes, spen from note9 is charaged from inside a phone. But i think it is done by wirless charaging so what if you will use wirless charager to charage a phone and maybe it also work for spen itself.
?
Maybe its done by software.
I'm wondering if it uses the same technology as the one that detects the phone.
@deepseaturtle: Did you have your N8 Spen removed/taken out when trying the N9 Spen, or disable the Spen Power Saver feature?
It was out indeed because I wanted to see if it fits inside and the only option that was turned on about S Pen detection is the alarm when it's far from the phone

I just tried the note 9 spen on my note 8 and it work like a regular note 8 spen. Can write, go through screens, etc. But the bluetooth functions nope it won't work. And the n9 spen is taller then the n8 spen so it's going to stick out of the note 8.

Thanks !!
So I assume the S Pen was either not detected by my phone or I did this wrong.
So now we can be sure it works !
I was wondering if the New Note 9 S Pen will work and fit with the Note 8. I have a Note 8 and love it. From what I have read of the Note 9 specs, there is little need for me to upgrade.
Much larger battery
Slightly larger screen but same resolution
Better camera but its only better because of the updated software
More drive space
And an S Pen that (shoots freakin laser beams) has Bluetooth support
Those are great upgrades, but I do not feel like spending close to $1000 two years in a row. I kept the Note 7 S Pens when I returned the explosive phones multiple times in case I wanted backups. They work fine with the Note 8 even though their spec were supposed to be slightly upgraded. I would love it if I could get my hands on an Note 9 S Pen and be able to use it with my Note 8 without having to buy a whole new phone. I especially love the feature of taking a picture with the S Pen.
Does anybody have any thoughts or insight on this?
Looking at the Note 9 S-Pen I doubt all the functionalities will work with the N8, like the S-Pen charging or even working as a Bluetooth device as with the N9. It may not even fit.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
it need be charged. i guess it cant be full working on note 8. when it was low/out of battery, it would become note 8 spen?
Find a way to charge the pen and I don't see why we can't use it with a note 8

Yeah another poster said the new pen is longer than the one on the Note 8 so it may not fit or might stick out.
It would probably work as a normal S-Pen. But without the bluetooth functions.
I have tested on both the Note 8 and Note 9. They won't work with each other. The Note 9's S Pen can't do anything on the Note 8' screen, even it's just a little touch or swipe.
Thanks for the feedback. That is a little disappointing but I guess I can wait. Samsung upgrades their phones just a little bit every year with just one great new feature to get me to consider the upgrade. Smart business plan. I wonder is a third party S Pen with Bluetooth will be developed to work with Note 8. That would be rad.

That's not right, I tried it at a Samsung store a couple days ago and it worked just fine as a plain EMR pen. I couldn't test fit since the pen was in a holder though.
Charging the pen capacitor likely won't work on a note 8, but it'll still work as a normal wacom pen.
The note 9 pen is bigger. It doesn't fit in the note 8
This is a really dumb question. You think samsung would allow note 8 users to use the note 9 pen... theres a whole reason why they're pushing the note 9. It's not even the same internals anymore.

Lol in terms of being able to use it as a stylus I'm sure it works fine. The whole point of that note 9 pen is for the functions... if you can't charge the pen or fit it back into the phone wouldn't you say its supposed to be meant for the Note 9. It's a dumb question ...

There's actually a battery saving option on the Note phones that lets you turn off the S-Pen touch detection while the stylus is inside the phone. I noticed this as well at a store where the Note 8 pen didnt work on my Note 4 until I took out the pen from my Note 4. The option also exists on the Note 8. When you turn the option it off you can use your extra S-Pen's while the original is still inside the phone (I believe it's turned off by default actually, not sure though)

Never tried to "appear" to look smart. Just stating something that's obvious. I don't see why the pen wouldn't work in terms of navigating through the phone with the actual touch of the stylus. The functionalities obvs wouldnt work. Anyways I'm moving on. Peace.

Point taken. For some this is a learned behavior. Still, it is emotional abuse. I would watch that kind of language. This is a great community. It would be even sad to lose someone to emotional abuse or harassment. Make no mistake. It will not be tolerated. Take the high road. Be the better person. Peace.

I think you could get the 9 s pen for a bit less than that on eBay, but I have seen people mention in these forums that the note 8 pen does fit in the 9.
Just forget about the bluetooth features though... The Note 8 S-Pen doesn't support those...

So my note 9 pen damaged I don't want to spend a huge amount of money on a new one, I found that the the note 8 pen is pretty cheap I was wondering whether it will fit in the silo. also other than Bluetooth connectivity are there any difference between the two?
Note 9 pen is slightly larger than the Note 8 one - size wise yes, it will fit, but it will likely be loose and fall out unless held in by something.
I know for a fact that the Note 9's S-Pen fits in the Note 8. So the Note 8's S-Pen should fit in the Note 9 without any issues. As you have stated the only differences between the two S-Pen's is that the Note 9 has Bluetooth features. Otherwise they are both function the exact same
I have the spare note 8 S pen and it won't work with my note 9. Not sure if it's a bluetooth thing picking up the 9 pen but either way my little test didn't work. Could be doing something wrong but might be worth testing out before spending money and it not work.

Check your S-pen settings. There is one that allows multiple pens to work. I believe it is off by default...
Have the Notes 8, 9 & 10+, S-pen from each works on all...

Bulldust... As I said above, Note 8 S-pen works on Note 9 and 10+... And vice versa...
I also have the ORIGINAL NOTE from waaaay back and that S-pen ALSO works on ALL the models listed...
The base tech HAS NOT CHANGED...
Check you settings for the S-pen as there is a setting to use multiple S-pens that must be turned on otherwise, if an S-pen is docked and you try to use another S-pen, the touches won't register...
The ONLY thing that won't work is, of course, the bluetooth stuff as the older models didn't have this...
Long story short, S-pen from any Note series phone WILL work on any other Note AS LONG AS THAT PESKY SETTING IS CHANGED...
Anyone who says different is wrong unless talking about the bluetooth part. That is hardware and model specific...
It means they haven't looked at the S-pen settings and changed it.

Shouldn't matter as long as it has the wacom tech like an original S-pen... I have a heap of cheap 3rd party s-pens lying around I bought for the 9 a long time ago on ebay. They all work but as they don't have the bluetooth part that of course doesn't work on the 9 and 10+.
I also have a note 10.1, 10.1(2014 edition) and a Tab S4. These pens are also interchangeable...
Cheers guys...
Should also note, if the original S-pen is removed from the phone, ANY S-pen should work whether the setting is for multiple or not... If you are trying out the S-pen with your original in the phone it is detected and the 2nd pen won't work. Try removing your original pen and try with the replacement. It will also work. No need to change setting then and worry about battery warning...
