without root you have to go off the tethering on your plan if you have it. dont go with the new tmobile unlimited plans because they charge for tethering and it's not as much as you can get now. there's really not anything similar to the note 7. the note 5 comes to mind but you had the note 4 so i'm guessing you didnt like the note 5. the international note 7 has root so you could go that route. it has bands for tmobile use.

tmobile uses Frequencies: Band 2 (1900 MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), Band 12 (700 MHz).
the n930F uses:
LTE Cat9 700/800/850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600 (Bands 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12,13,17,18,19,20,25,26,28)
TD-LTE 1900/2300/2500/2600 (Bands 38,39,40,41)
so yes it is tmobile compatible.

Yeah, for me I couldn't because of service around my house but for many it's acceptable. I would get an international version if I didn't need wifi calling. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the international version was just updated and locked down.

my lte signal is not crappy at all. i'm in a decent area. i normally turn off wifi calling to save some battery and on calls i dont have a problem with quality because of volte. i have a tmobile wifi calling router but honestly i dont use it much for wifi calling. i use it for normal internet because its a very good quality router.

I'll recommend a Nexus 6P, it's a gorgeous phone, and it's full pure android, so no problem rooting it legally from google.
no problem with bands, as it's multi band.
I'm using Wind (T-mobile partner), I too only buy phones that works with AWS bands
for the past few years, all phones are true multi-bands, so we no longer have issues with phones not supporting AWS
I too was considering the Nexus 6P before picking up the Note 7.... which I might either return or sell, if root is not available in the next 30 days

I understand why someone wouldn't need it but not knowing the use case of the guy asking the question it's better to assume all possibilities rather than just your own.
I for one cannot send a text message at home without WiFi calling connected. That may be a consideration for him to take into account when making his decision.
Also the area he lives in may not support volte

Titanium Backup, i've been using it for many many years.
The stupid Samsung "Smart Switch" (not smart enough) software doesn't work, it doesn't transfer your Apps/Games and safe games, or Apps data.
Which is why Titanium Backup is a must.
Then I also use use Droid Firewall, to manually control what comes in and out via. It's a great tool to avoid browser malware from being installed into your phone unexpectedly while browsing the web, or trying out some AD Bomb Infested Apps from Google Play.
Being able to choose what gets to connect to the internet, makes it easy to identify. Nothing goes behind my back without knowing which App is sending/receiving data.
There are a lot of other Apps I use which requires root, but they are of less importance. Apps like Widgetsoid, CPU Speed control, GPU speed control, SD card Boost, restart to Recovery Mode, and much more, basically all the Apps that can let you have full control over your phone.
Which is why most manufacture they do not like the idea of the "End User" messing around with their phone, because we are not "Owner" of our own phone, so we don't get to be "Admins"
That's the only nice thing about Nexus phones, you are guaranteed Admin / Root access.
But unfortunately as you mentioned, Nexus phones even the top of the line, are not always the best.
Samsung makes the best phone, but they are getting worse and worse at letting the "Consumer" do what they want with the phone.

Alternative: You can buy a T-Mobile S5, sim unlock and use on AT&T. T-Mo has unlocked bootloader...I did this and it works perfectly.

See people on the Galaxy S4 that are still looking for an exploit. It's highly unlikely bootloader unlock happens. Root is quite the long-shot as well.

I wish there was a more active way to contribute despite having no developer background.
I know I'd be more than willing to do some seriously tedious code checking among other things if i knew it would help the cause.
Maybe buy some dynamite see if i can blow off the bootloader lock.. who knows?

The T-Mobile S5 is worth more because of the unlocked bootloader. You can sell the AT&T S5 for about $550 and get a mint T-Mobile S5 for the same price if you're lucky and negotiate on Swappa. Then you'll have to unlock it for about $30. Its all worth it in my opinion.

The thing is the T-Mobile S5 will almost always show a full signal bar. When I had the TMO S5 it would show 4-5 bars with a -100-110 dbm signal. ATT signal is much stronger and therefore it will almost always show five bars with a -90, -80-dbm signal.

I can see your point on this one. If the phone is unlocked then you'd be fine. You would be getting service with AT&T, not T-Mobile or Sprint lol.

I have never understood the mentality of "just go buy it from another carrier." Some do not have $650 just laying around to make that happen. Another thing I don't seem to understand is all the dislike of subsidiaries. I have been with AT&T for over 10 years and never had an issue. My bill does not seem to be affected when I get an upgrade either, so I don't see the logic of paying full price for a phone from another carrier and remain on another one. It would seem like I am paying more out of pocket that way.
All,
on my Note 3 I can talk and use data at the same time. I thought I had read somewhere that the Nexus 6 would do the same. But it seems that it will not.
I am wrong?
Thanks Dave
I am on AT&T and I have used DAT and a phone call at the same time. This has more to do with your carrier and not the actual device.

That's why T-Mobile is winning more customers and Sprint is sending techs to your house to help you set up your phone. Priorities. ???
So lately, for awhile now I've been having major issues with my 4G LTE. My speeds on LTE when I check on speedtest would go as far as 1.00 MBps (Not kidding) and im forced to disable 4LTE and leave it to 3G or HSPA+. When I enable H I get speeds up to 10.00 mbps. Now I've done many things to try to fix it, researched and tried flashing the only radios I can find which are on here labeled "[Ref] [Radio] Nexus 6 modem collection" I currently have LMY47M Firmware and radio flashed and still H seems to work better. I'm on stock 5.1 update. I even tried speaking to T-Mobile to have my signal reset and they even got as far to transferring me to a specialist and even had the specialist send a note to the engineers to see if its the towers in my area or something. And that if it was the case that on Saturday I should see my LTE back up and working. Saturday passed and unfortunately still going through this. It's crazy because my brother ,mother and sister in-law have T-Mobile and their 4GLTE are working beautifully. So I was hoping if I can have any helping hands to help me fix this or find a solution, a radio or something for me. Please, I'm dying lol..
Any links, tutorials, personal apn settings, tricks or editing build.prop info will be SUPER MUCH appreciated.
Thanks again.

Curious, what were your brother, sister in-law, etc.. speed test scores? Home for me is in a fringe LTE area and depending on where I am in my house, hspa is almost always faster than LTE. Example: at home hspa+ is 12 down 2-3 up. LTE is 2-3 down 0.5-1 up. Drive half mile down street and LTE is 70 down 15 up....
One thing of note my wife has a new S6 and her radios stay on LTE 24/7 at our house where mine switches constantly from hspa to LTE. Her speed tests at home are 15-20 down 5 up.
Are you in a "fringe" LTE coverage area?

At first it showed same bad speeds With 4G LTE enabled and enhanced 4GLTE enabled..then it went up high as showed after I waited a bit. About same speeds as HSPA+ is giving me now. Big difference for a moment but not so different from my HSPA+ speeds. But on the next screenshots you'll see it go back down again..

I have always used Foxfi to tether on custom roms on AT&T phones and have not been detected as long as I only tethered an android tablet. They could detect a Windows PC unless I used a VPN.
I cannot use Foxfi on 5.1.1 roms on the N910T since it gets an error. I can run native tethering and it works fine, but have only done it a little bit since I am kind of wary about being detected - I have already been warned twice already a couple years ago. I, too, wanted to make sure it was undetectable by AT&T if I used the native tethering instead of Foxfi with its proxy.
I unlock my Samsung Note 4 T-Mobile with sim-unlock code, but I've heard that I cannot use this phone with internet 3G, 4G or LTE i'm outside US. And also I need another code to unlock this feature. I cannot check if I can use 3G Internet or not. Somebody knows that for sure?
Does above know when this is coming to the note 8. That's a major reason I upgraded from the note 4. I was shocked when I upgraded from the note 2 and lost simultaneous voice and data and have been suffering ever since.
Patiently waiting on this as well
Update: Now working! 11/22/2017
Followed instructions on post 41 in this tread (Thanks to BlueFox for sharing The original how To post)
when sprint release this for the note 8 or you maybe able to pull this form a rooted s8 by spr.
well when i rooted spr note 8 VoLTE and WiFi was working hmmm please don't ask because idk how this is without the up date. yes it works as i can make call but it has no toggle for it. i will take a screen shot in a sec. aslo do any one might know where VoLTE is stored at, if i can find out where this is at....maybe i can pull it for root and non rooted phones (maybe Non-rooted phones)

Waiting on this as well..come on Sprint
Maybe I can give the xml file for Bolts but u gotta have root
Just did a 5 minute phone call while using my hotspot to my tv for Netflix and I noticed it wasn't cutting off so I tried some web surfing
while on call and it worked.
Didn't know this was coming back? Haven't had it since the S3

Found this
I found these using an activity launcher, i still havent tried it yet(volte), and i also found a call recorder, and the spam and caller id app but i dont think it works atm
based off his screenshots it looks like hes running the XAS software with sprint csc.
If you flash the unlocked tar image to the phone it will give you volte, but it wasn't working for me unless i was already on wifi calling and then left the wifi network i could continue using data, once i got off phone and made a new call on cellular it wasn't working.

I haven't had any problems after doing this, I can still send text messages.
Any updates how we can enable the "Talk and Data" option? with all the technology of today, its amazing this isnt enabled with any software release out of the box
Mine works on incoming calls only. If I make a call it does not work

It sucks that yes with all this technology, Sprint is so F behind. Volte should be available for unlock and carrier phone right out of the box. I mean for carrier S8 it came out a bit late, but not as late as the Note 8.
And why does Tmob. Is able to do Volte and hotspot. Just like that.
If I wasn't under a grandfather plan, Zero plan, I will have ditch Sprint long time ago.
Thank God for the gurus here at XDA, makes for some tweaking, while we wait for the Calling Plus...

I was under the impression from Tech articles VoIP while using Data was never coming back because of the "Triband" era.. I'll try and report back!
Edit: I can confirm that Data does not work on Voice Calls at this time.
Also note I rooted with SamFAIL

No not that it was never coming back. It just wasn't coming back till Sprint had VoLTE infrastructure in place and they turn it on.
I think it is still a year or two out before they get that going. The good thing is if they actually activate it our phones are compatible for it.
Turning this stuff on, on our end won't work till Sprint turns it on, on their end.
