[Q] Radio/4GLTE problems T-Mobile - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So lately, for awhile now I've been having major issues with my 4G LTE. My speeds on LTE when I check on speedtest would go as far as 1.00 MBps (Not kidding) and im forced to disable 4LTE and leave it to 3G or HSPA+. When I enable H I get speeds up to 10.00 mbps. Now I've done many things to try to fix it, researched and tried flashing the only radios I can find which are on here labeled "[Ref] [Radio] Nexus 6 modem collection" I currently have LMY47M Firmware and radio flashed and still H seems to work better. I'm on stock 5.1 update. I even tried speaking to T-Mobile to have my signal reset and they even got as far to transferring me to a specialist and even had the specialist send a note to the engineers to see if its the towers in my area or something. And that if it was the case that on Saturday I should see my LTE back up and working. Saturday passed and unfortunately still going through this. It's crazy because my brother ,mother and sister in-law have T-Mobile and their 4GLTE are working beautifully. So I was hoping if I can have any helping hands to help me fix this or find a solution, a radio or something for me. Please, I'm dying lol..
Any links, tutorials, personal apn settings, tricks or editing build.prop info will be SUPER MUCH appreciated.
Thanks again.

Thank you for the response. But yes, I currently have the enhanced calling feature off. And speeds are still terrible. I've attached my speed test.

That is indeed a horrible speed test result. Wait a bit and see if the member I mentioned before has some help for you. I'm on Sprint, so my knowledge of T-Mobile is limited.

Curious, what were your brother, sister in-law, etc.. speed test scores? Home for me is in a fringe LTE area and depending on where I am in my house, hspa is almost always faster than LTE. Example: at home hspa+ is 12 down 2-3 up. LTE is 2-3 down 0.5-1 up. Drive half mile down street and LTE is 70 down 15 up....
One thing of note my wife has a new S6 and her radios stay on LTE 24/7 at our house where mine switches constantly from hspa to LTE. Her speed tests at home are 15-20 down 5 up.
Are you in a "fringe" LTE coverage area?

They would get around 27 to mid 30's down both my brother and sister in-law , my mom gets around 10-15 down. my mom has the note 3, my brother new S6 and sister in-law the iPhone 6.
And to be honest I'm not sure what you mean by "fringe"
Any and every where I go I'm forced to use HSPA lol LTE isn't working right for my phone.

Not sure to be quite honest. But I know just now I tried flashing Baseband_D4.0-9625-02.95.zip that I found on a random thread and still no good service for LTE.
The radio I had flashed or had on all this time now is labeled "LMY47M-Firmware-Radio.zip"
Where do I check the radio info ?

it would be in the about phone. but you have the 95r radio, same aa me. can you try reflashing the radio then checking lte?

I just came from verizon ..it seems I never worried before. If I had even a smidge of lte the speeds were still pretty solid..T-Mobile..lte is a crap shoot.

At first it showed same bad speeds With 4G LTE enabled and enhanced 4GLTE enabled..then it went up high as showed after I waited a bit. About same speeds as HSPA+ is giving me now. Big difference for a moment but not so different from my HSPA+ speeds. But on the next screenshots you'll see it go back down again..

It did however , weirdly...boost up my HSPA+ down speeds to 9-10-11 Mbps in my current area where I was hitting 5-6-8 Mbps before. But up stays at 0 weirdly..

Q: T-Mobile speedtest

Hello,
I am going to buy an international note.. what are its speeds for web browsing..
Speed test pics would be appreciated and videos

anyone have speed test pics??
It would really help me out.. I don't know if I should spend 700 on the pink note. If I'm gonna have super crappy internet

Well the speed for web browsing is really fast on HSDPA+ (The highest one that you can get here in europe)
Found a speedtest on a german android forum.
http://fs01.androidpit.info/userfiles/411957/image/galaxy note 749.png
Edit:
Remember, that's not the highest value. HSDPA+ can reach up to 21,1 Mbit/s here.
This was with an international note?
But idk if it be the same for T-Mobile since were on 1700mhz
If 9mbps was reached there.. hopefully here as well

So there is no 3G data (and upper I assume) available with the International Note. Any reasons for not taking the AT&T Note SGH-I717 instead?
So what were those speeds lol.. I gotta see some speedtests of someone using it on tmobile
Idc I'd get the att one.. but too overpriced .. if ima pay a lot for the phone I'm going to buy what I really want. And that is the Pink Note

Also just read that you are able to use >3g, sorry for misleading informations.
lol so complicated as we don't have 4g here.

Yes, you're right it can be flashed to work with tmobile.
Well the site that I've posted before says that international note doesn't support lte or tmobile 3g data. Only the AT&T (as said you have to enable tmobile data manually)
Yeah.. but no pink note lol

So buy a pink case or those sticker covers and you can make it pink. I'd rather have a fully functional device than a colored device. That is only if you need the speed. if not pink it up! Where I live I only get 3G. Not hspa+, when I go downtown I get hspa+ so it's not worth it for me nor a deal breaker.
Salutations from Madrid!

I use an n7000 on tmo stateside. Its only 2g so speeds are horrible... roughly 100 to 150kbps both up and down. This doesnt really matter to me however, as im in wifi 99% of the time. The 2g works fine for gps, email and mobile versions of websites. But forget about youtube, or full version website surfing. One thing i havent checked is pandora streaming... might work ok.

I have the international note, and for the most part I get around 256k speeds at best. Depending on where you are located though they have repurposed their 1700 band into their latest hspa+, so if you happen to end up in one of those area data will be really fast. (sorry never ran a speed test with one of those connections) The problem is that is was mainly an experiment and they most likely won't continue not that they are moving to LTE, and the areas with this working are fairly rare.

Today I Watched My Nexus 4 Get Genuinely Confused

So I'm on a road trip, and I brought my N4 (on T-Mobile USA) along for the ride. I decided to stay the night in Savannah, GA. After checking into my hotel, I took my phone out of my pocket and saw something I've never seen before. It was showing a data connection as "3G" rather than the usual "H" for HSPA or "E" for EDGE. I had to do a double take. Curious, I went to Settings-About Phone-Status and checked the network type. It was "UMTS:3". Obviously that means T-Mobile's network refarming has happened here and 1900 MHz UMTS is live.
Here's the thing, though. The radio keeps switching between "3G" and "H" every few seconds, seemingly unable to figure out which one it wants to hold onto. The phone is still usable but I still find it annoying. Of course, the vast majority of T-Mobile phones would never experience this since they hardly ever have support for 1900 MHz, but I'm curious if other N4 owners living in areas where T-Mobile has lit up 1900 MHz UMTS are having this issue as well? In the end, the phone may be usable, but the constant switching is playing hell on my OCD!!

At least the refarming is done where you're at, I'm still impatiently waiting.

Yeah but at this rate I'm hoping they either fix this in a Nexus 4 radio update (maybe make it prefer HSPA over UMTS, but I don't know if that would cause problems outside the US), or never light it up in my home market. haha
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I just came from Verizon of 12 years and a gs3. I'm on umts at my home in rural Atlanta ga. It does the same switching as you say. I just thought that was normal gsm behavior .... phone is idle then 3g is active. Phone queries the net (open browser etc...) and H kicks in.
On another note the H speeds here are almost equal to vzw lte, I'm impressed

I just noticed you're in Durham, I'm in Winston.
Has the refarm taken effect by you?
My phone does this then pulls the h on demand I am in Detroit metro area. I still pull high download speeds and don't have a problem with the change over. Honestly until I read this post I thought this was normal. Do do a speed test see if it is slower or faster then your use to.

I have had my N4 for only a couple months, but it has been doing that ever since I got it. I am in the Farmington, MO area too though. I thought it was just normal, as this is the first time I have had a decent phone and be on a plan rather than prepay.
Mine has always behaved like that. My nexus one and gnex too.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I'm on all stock and I've never seen the 3G label. I'm out here in Portland, OR, and SLC, UT. I just figured our phones were only capable of G, E, and H labels.
Sent from my Nexus 4
I find it wierd that you've never seen the 3G label. Normally you camp on 3G (UMTS) and it'll flip to "H" for HSPA+ when data's transferring either up, down, or both. This has been normal over the years, until there were modifications on T-Mobile's side to display 4G all the time for devices that were HSPA+ capable.

GS2, Samsung edited to reflect 4G. Most customers would be perplexed by the constant camping on 3G, then flipping to H (HSPA+ which is branded as T-Mobile 4G), so the just modified their network bits in their OS to reflect 4G all the time. As far as the Nexus S, that's just a 3G device not capable of the HSPA+ bandwidth (it topped out at 7mbps).

Sounds like you're running an AOSP rom on your N2. 3G for UMTS, H for HSPA+, and 4G for the LTE. If you were on a stock TMo ROM, it'd be 4G for UMTS and HSPA+, then 4G LTE for LTE.
Important to note is that the status bar icons ate just that. . .icons. You could actually modify these to display whatever you wanted. If I wanted it to say 8G when on LTE, I'd just have to make a custom icon and bake it in. Doesn't mean I actually have an 8G network.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
thats normal behavior, it changes to H when there is data flow. it just depends on the area and the signal/coverage in the area. on a custom rom, i see it change from a H to a H+ all the time(when data is flowing). rarely, i see a 3G.

Missing sprint phones about now.

The service is amazing over here at Verizon.. Data speeds are significantly better in every way.. Having LTE in the middle of a lake in Idaho is a plus.. But damn the locked bootloader and all the bs rootblocking updates. They put a huge setback on erytang.. Even with the $154,8658,000,000 bounty. Just thought I'd let you guys know I was thinking about ya

I'm happy with my data speeds and coverage on Sprint. 40-60mbs is nothing to laugh at. Not many places I find don't have LTE anymore. Fast updates and no locked anything is a huge plus. Spring will be seeing many more Verizon customers in the coming months. S4/Note 3/S5 all locked from here out will bring more over.

Then you're lucky, because there are still TONS of places that don't have LTE, including major cities. I was in Denver a few weeks ago and still had to make do with 3G just like I do at home. Also, 40-60 mbs is unheard of, even on Verizon and AT&T. My home wifi isn't even that fast. If that figure is even remotely accurate, you're definitely a (very) rare exception rather than the rule.

As I pointed out earlier, that is very much the exception and not the rule. Also, you'll never get speeds like that on Sprint LTE.

You also said you would eat your face if anyone got those speeds on ANY network, let alone Sprint. I'm just saying it happens

Maybe burst speed, but not steady speed.

My wife has vzw note 2. Here in indiana we have equal lte coverage but vzw speeds is usually 3-4 down. My sprint phone always whips vzw here. Dont dog Sprint. I avg 10-20 down and hit 30-40 down alot. This is all from our single band only phones. The only edge vzw has is lte building Penetration. All will be solved with tri band lte devices.

Idk OP, my service and bandwidth on Sprint's LTE is pretty solid, speaking as a recent convert from Verizon.
Ohh, I remember the good ol' days before Verizon lost their way. I was a Verizon customer during the release of the OG Motorola Droid, and that phone was like a development catalyst. I discovered xda thanks to that phone's development following. Everything I came to love about customizing kernels and roms came from that phone. ****, I remember what now seems like an ancient version of CyanogenMod for that OG Droid. I remember that phone out of the box was underclocked of all things, from 550Mhz down to 450 which made overclocking that thing to a meaty 1ish Ghz seem so beastly at the time lol!
Ahhhh good times :good:
Decent Sprint LTE speeds in College Park, MD
I get decent speeds (15-23 Mb down, 7-10 Mb up) on Sprint in College Park MD according to Speedtest.
Won't the speeds for the Sprint LTE towers drop for an individual once more people start utilizing it? I suspect some people are getting very high speeds because not a lot of Sprint users are tapping into the LTE bandwidth yet?

Close - it was a 600 mhz CPU underclocked to 550 mhz. I remember there were kernels that could overclock the thing all the way to 1.3 ghz. I've still never used another phone that could be overclocked that far past the native clock speed (by percentage, at least). Good times.

VoLTE APN.

Just wanted to open this up as a discussion about the up and coming AT&T VoLTE (Voice over LTE) rollout.
I have been trying this new APN on and off in the Metro Orlando area without any luck so far.
Wondering what anyone else can contribute on this subject.
The settings are the same as is used in the "pta" apn, but instead, the apn name is "nxtgenphone"

I have been using it in the Cleveland area .. I honestly don't see any change at all. If it was try VoLTE .. while on a call, wouldn't the data connection stay as 4G/LTE ? Because mine doesn't .. switches just like it did before to 4G only, then back to 4G/LTE within seconds of ending the call.
Yes, It should stay LTE while on a call.
I completely lose all data when I use that APN. Does not work in any way at all for me.

I've had absolutely no problems with it working here in Cleveland .. calls, internet, mms .. everything works. Just not the VoLTE part .. LOL
Just tried, I get data but still goes int 4g when in a call and I'm in the DFW area so I'm in AT&T's home
It's just odd for me that it is totally nonfunctional in this market area. I even tried on my gf's note 3 since she has the at&t version and still a no go. I have the tmobile version so I thought maybe it was a modem or software issue.

Odd? It's a service that isn't out yet and probably still in testing with very limited active markets.

Well... If what I am reading is correct, only the Asus Padphone will be compatible at first. I do not believe any current American device will be functional with it.
I have also read that the international LTE Note 3 and S4 are supposed to work with it as they started it in Asia first.
As for America, it looks like we don't have support or the hardware for it, yet.

I have also read that they are privately testing it themselves and have not really released it in any market.
If that were the case, a small update would have to happen to get the APN to our phones just to be on the safe side. I can bet that someone from XDA would have grabbed that update.

US Carriers Sprint/ATT/VZV/TMo/prepaid?

Which US carriers has everyone got the Mi 5 to work on? Specifically. I'm wondering about Sprint. Has anyone activated this phone on Sprint?

So, how do you like the phone on T-Mobile? What kind of speeds are you seeing with hspa?
I am not sure whether to go for this or OnePlus 3. Your response will make my decision go one way or the other
Hi, usually hspa gets me about 3-4 MB/s. It's unfortunate that I haven't gotten lte working, but I personally I have wifi almost everywhere.

Ok, thanks for the info. I see that there are lots of areas where I see that network coverage will be spotty for T-Mobile as the device does not carry critical T-Mobile bands. So, I decided to stay away from MI 5 even though I love the look of the device.
