I haven't used my Galaxy Tab S2 in a while now. When I plugged it in it was at 0%. I used "a" (possibly not original that came with box) OEM 2.0A Samsung Charger + Note 5/Samsung Official Cable to charge my tablet. It has only gone up by 5% in the past 30 minutes.
Also when it was at 0% it said it'd take 7hr 12min to fully charge.
Is this normal when the tablet has not been used in a long time, or am I possibly looking at a bad charger/cable as the charger and cable charge my Note 5 just fine at the normal (non-fast charge) speed where it charges my phone fully in just over 1hr 30 min.
If someone could help me out to resolve this I'd be grateful.

Don't think the charger and cable are faulty as they work on your mobile. Generally whenever I charge my Samsung galaxy tab s2 using a different charger it shows a notification if the charger plugged in is slow. If it didn't show this I don't see why it would take so long other than the charger your using has a lower output causing it to take a lot longer than usual to charge.
Every android device I have will sometimes not charge fast enough - it doesn't matter what charger I'm using. If I catch that the charge is slow I just unplug it and replug it a it'll be normal again. I think the "smart charge" goes crazy sometimes.
I had the same problem on the tab s2 8''. It was because the motherboard broke. They fixed it under warranty.
When I had this problem I couldn't attach any external device (usb, playstation controller) through USB. Try if you can
I don't have the original charger anymore to compare on my 9.7. I use anker potable batteries to be free of wall sockets. It isn't 2.0. In battery monitor widget, really good app, shows charge anywhere from 1200-1600mA 20% per hour while in use during charging. 5 hours total. I think with screen off I get 30%. I get 10 hours of screen on time zero loss with it off over night. Using 5.1
It could be the motherboard. I know with laptops charging starts to mess up a few weeks before it no longer works at. The connection between the USB and board weakens over time/use.

Sounds normal. The big Lion batteries in these devices are just weird at time. Running one down to 0 is a good way to kill the battery permanently. Let it charge slowly and then keep it above 20-30% from now on. Should improve over time.
I think its a myth you shouldn't let the battery get low. As long as the battery itself says I'm at zero at the correct voltage then zero is perfectly fine. I'm not an expert here but at 5% battery I'm at 3.6v and will turn off in a few minutes after that. I think batteries are manufactured to safely go down to 3.2 before saying no more. Need to charge.

Within the last few days I've notice that my phone is charging at unbelievable slow rate via the wall charge that was supplied. I usually get a full charge in maybe 1-2 hr depending on what percentage the battery is at. Once it is fully charge it hold the charge, but when it drains then it would take like 6 hrs to do a full charge. I've tried to soft reset it to see if the percentage goes up, but it stay the same. I turn off the phone to let it charge, but it still charge at a slow rate. I'm wondering is it time to purchase a new battery.
What do you think? And is there any other test I can do?
The slow charge could be one of a few things... One could be the battery as you suspect (and probally most likely).. Also, are you chargign the phone in a diffrent place? If the battery gets too warm from lack of circulation, it will not charge (or just charge much mroe slowly).. It also could be that your USB port is starting to go... IF you have a stand alogn abattery charger available for it (like one on a docking station) try to charge it on there and see if it still charges as slowly.. Another though could be if you are charging it in your car while using GPS or Wifi.. IF those are left on, they suck down the battery a lot faster and thus it uses the electricity as fast as it can pull it in.. I woudl suggest powering the phone down while charging.. that could also help...
i always charge it in the same spot since i got the phone. i dont have a dock charger. its weird last night i was at 49 and i turn off the phone completely and plug it in. woke up today the orange light indicating that it was charging still was on. turn on the phone and it was at 55 percent. WTF!!!!!!!!!!
I guess that touch pro 2 better come out soon.

i have the same problem. Its either your USB port or the charger, so simply go buy a new charger and if it still does it the port is bad....if not, problem solved
or put it in your computer to charge, that avoids buying a new charger.
usb charging is always slower then wallplug charging as usb can only provide
5v * 0.5Amps == 2.5Watt
where
wall charger can provide as much watt
as the charger is made to
but of cause the pda will only draw as much
amps as it was made to support

This is my first thread - although I have been on xda many many years. I have searched the forums before posting this.
This morning whilst travelling to work by car I decided to recharge my Note (which was at 0% due to the previous day of use). I unplugged my Galaxy S2 and plugged the charger into the Note.
The Note would not take any charge from this USB car charger.
Now I know that the charger outputs 1000mA and that it was pumping 750mA into the S2 literally moments before.
I had started to think that the Note was bricked as the low battery and a yellow triangle were the only thing that the display would show, however, I could force the device to boot into Recovery mode (Redpill says the batt % in the corner - it stayed at 0%).
I tried a battery pull. I tried getting the device to reboot system from Recovery and I also tried wiping the battery stats.
The only fix I found was when I plugged it into a 1000mA AC charger.
Has anybody else had this problem? It could be quite an inconvenience if one were to run out of juice (ie 0%) whilst on the move, expecting to be able to charge from the car usb charger...

Use Original charger and charge for 1 hour. do not try to turn it on. then try to turn ON.
if this doesn't work. try with different Note battery.
Hi. I got it to work eventually using an AC charger but my point was - has anybody else experienced this inability to recharge when at 0% and with only a USB charger or car charger available.
Samsungs recognise when they are plugged into AC Mains or USB don't they. Could there bee something in this that we may have to tweak, within a script during boot?

I think it may be something to do with the juice it requires to get the initial kick from 0%... perhaps it will only take charge from AC in these .

I got this when i flowed all juice to 0%. I've used only genuine wall adapter / charger and got that triangle + ! too.. I just let it be that way and fired up Note few mins after that. Then it started to charge..

Yes, other users have faced this issue. It is not uncommon and has been in various posts over the last few months. As mentioned - use original charger and leave phone turned off for an hour or so - this will kick start it.
I had same problem with Blackberry bold - once below 5% would not charge unless I turned screen off and waited for at least 30 minutes.
I know this sounds all very well in hindsight, but I never let my phone drop below 20% - always charge it around that time. I still get around 2 days on average use but refuse to let it go any lower than that.
Would also recommend purchasing a second battery in case - with a separate charger.

Because, I was using my phone more than two month with SetCPU for more batter life, and I was able to use 3 or 4 days. But just yesterday I charged from my laptop and was full 100%. But after 21 hours I got 15% battery renaming. It’s seems like drain battery after i charged from Laptop. Anyway I will try to charge today from AC adapter which is Samsung provided with phone.
May I know if any one experienced this.

The only visible difference should be in charging time - AC adapter should do it much faster providing the current of up to 1A (1000mA), much less then that to be expected from PC USB port.
I'd rather search for some rogue app draining the battery, maybe betterbatterystats would be a good place to start.
there wont be any dfference, the battery will get a charge from either but usb as mentioned wil ltake longer to charge
if i got 21hrs from my battery i would not be asking ANY questions!!..

USB ports are low power
your wall plug has a higher output than your computer USB port
PC USB = 5v 0.5amps
wall plug = 5v 1amp
so a wall plug will charger faster.
use SetCPU governor, I am sure you will get 3 to 4 days (moderate usage). same as mine.
My final finding; If we charge through PC-USB, it will take time to charge and same time, will discharge rapidly. because I charge my phone yesterday with AC-adapter and now my batter level is 13 hours with 95%. While I charge from PC-USB it was 20 hours with 15%. (all time are in moderated usage, and no any apps are not installed during this period)
I don't know how this, but this is my experiences.
I get the same results that's why I don't charge it through my usb port.
I agree with your conclusion that low-power charging just doesn't last on the Note. I was travelling and mistakenly took the wall adapter for my Plantronics BT headset instead of the Sammy adapter. It charges basically at the same rate as the computer usb. It took forever to charge, which was expected, but drained EXTREMELY quickly (10% / hour with almost no usage). By the end of the trip I was keeping it plugged into the charger whenever possible.
Back home on my original charger the phone is behaving like normal again. (84% after 8 hours with BT on and about 20 minutes of talk time / display on)

I am having a problem where charging is beyond slow when using this cable. It will charge 50% in 8 hours.
And if phone is in use it will discharge while plugged in.
When i switch back to original cable that came with my note 2 it takes 4h or so to fully charge my battery.
Anybody else have tested this or similar cable?
I no longer need it since i got my zero-lemon battery but it would be good for my wife on her S3
Is there a tested alternative someone can recommend?

Mine too, too slow. Check the current with: Galaxy Charger current, get from play store. Only 400mAH.

I bought one which LED, 1 meter, it can not charge. 0mAH.

The longer/thinner the cable the slower the charging will be. Its best to always either stick with OEM or verified manufacturers for chargers and cables
So I recently picked up a T813 to replaced my Nexus 7 (2013), I've had a few weeks now, and as with all my devices I slow charge it. This tablet generally took ~30 hours or so to charge at 0.35-0.45 amps, but I didn't think anything of it. This week I went on a trip and plugged it into a charger that can output anywhere from 0.8 to 1.8 amps depending on the port you are using (all the current ratings I'm listing are what I've measured, not what the devices are rated). My tablet said "Charging" at first, but then once it hit 75% all it would say is "Charging Slowly" no matter what. Now that's all it will say. Sometimes after a restart it will say "Charging" briefly, but then it goes back to "Charging slowly". The charger I was trying to use was an Anker product, so not a complete "no-name" charger.
I did some more checking and it appears my tablet has an upper charge limit of 1.5 amps using even the factory charger which is rated 2.0 amps. That same factory charger plugged into my Nexus 5X outputs 1.88 amps. Anything less than 1.5 amps, my tablet behaves as the rest of the devices. If I plug the tablet into a power source that current is limited to 0.5 amp, using the same cable, using an Honor 5X, and the Tab S2, both draw the ~0.5 amp.
Now the "Charging" and "Charging Slowly" messages were on Lineage, however since I have returned home, I and done all the subsequent testing, I have used Odin to return completely back to the factory Samsung software. Right now I have some videos playing to run the battery down, and am planning to trying to charge the battery all the way up using the factory charger to see how long it takes. If it also takes 30 hours, I'm going to assume it has to be a hardware problem?

My T813 arrived with Nougat on it. The only Odin firmware I could find that would successfully flash was a Marshmallow so I let videos play overnight (which did actually play overnight surprisingly!) to fully drain the battery. This morning I started charging the battery with the OEM charger, and from fully dead to 100% it took roughly 4.5 hours. So I would say this is normal from what I've read. I would say this rules out any hardware issue.
My next test will be to find a flashable Nougat OEM image as it doesn't want to update itself. Then see how it performs then. I'm starting to wonder if Samsung changed something in the firmware to make it charge slower on purpose just to prevent any "Note" like issues from happening? Finally then I'll have to also go back to Lineage, as I don't plan on using it at all with the stock software, as it's quite unbearable. There's a reason I only buy devices that Lineage is available for.
So after updating to Nougat, and letting it update, then fully draining the battery again, which again took overnight, it seems to charge even faster. This time from 0-100% taking just under 4 hours using the OEM charger, at roughly 3 hours 45 minutes.
I'll put Lineage back on it tonight, however this definitely calms my concern that I had a hardware issue. It's definitely fine. I'll see what kind of charge time I get with Lineage.

I've had slow charging issue twice. I sent it in the first time and Samsung sent me a slow charger (not fast charger) to use. Worked fine for about 10 months. Once I update to Nougat, my charging became slow again.
Seems like many people have slow charging issues with this tablet. I have the Verizon tab s2 9.7

Yeah this is what I've noticed. This seems to be about the upper boundary. Despite being shipped with a 2 amp charger. I did reinstall Linage, and it charges fine with the OEM charger, so it's not a bug on their end, or a hardware problem for me. With LOS and the OEM charge it's still ~4 hours to charge with is what I would expect roughly based on my other tests, even though LOS still reports charging slowly.
I think my problem early with the 30+ hours of charge time was related to the hub I was charging with. I have been having issues where I would wake up and my phone wouldn't be charged at all. Most nights it would though, so I figured my cable was starting to go bad. Swapped the cable and same issue. Measured the current on the ports, and it was far below what it should be on a USB port, the charge ports were getting 0.18-0.2 amps, the regular ports were 0.2-0.3 amps (not sure why the regular ports were getting more). Then I noticed the power adapter was not plugged in all the way into the wall. After plugging it in all the way the current on those ports returned to normal. This honestly doesn't make any sense to me, so it maybe time to replace that hub. Either way, I know the problem is not the tablet, which calms my fears about it, since it was the new piece of hardware.
