I was not seeing my questions answered in detail about the new Gear VR, so I decided to just buy the item myself and give it a test run with my Note 4.
Yes, it works and fits just fine without modding.
No, the charge port still does not work even with the provided adapter.
Yes, you can enjoy cardboard apps with it.
No, your D-pad will not work with Cardboard apps.
They say the field of view is greater. It is obviously less for me, at least for the Note 4.
It is definitely a midnight blue color with black accents. Looks black in a lot of photos.
No you may not mod the cover with a cooling fan because the cover does not fit while the phone is mounted.
In conclusion, I will be returning the product because while the Gear VR experience is super cool, the last model (SM-R322), once modded, is better on all fronts minus working charge port.
Edit: I got the D-pad to work with Google Cardboard by restarting the phone
Didn't snap a few pictures with the Note 4 in it by any chance? I assume that the headphone jack is blocked off as well?

I'm pretty sure it is, but let me see if I can open the pkg back up and get a few pics
My bad, getting pics now. No, headphone jack is NOT blocked off. Ok, here is the mask that lessens the field of view from the old one. There is the cover that doesn't fit while the phone is mounted, and there is the headphones jack clearance that can now be used.
I wonder if the cover doesn't fit because you have a Note 4. If it's the same for all phones I guess it's just to protect the lens.

Could be but I'm sure I read the same complaint for a different model elsewhere. Perhaps someone else can confirm or deny.
The fit is also quite different. This cover latches into the clips in place of the phone while the older one wraps around the bulk of the front enclosing the headset. This cover does not enclose, it just kinda sits in there.

I have the 2015 version and I only use the cover to protect the lens when I'm not using it. I don't see the purpose of using the cover when your phone is in the Gear VR. Besides it may hold in heat. I don't think many people with the older gear use the cover with the phone in. That's probably why they redesigned it as a protective cover when not in use.

Yeah, I gotcha. Those of us with really awful overheating issues have come to depend on that old cover for our cooling mods. The info about the cover is applicable to those owners. Appreciate the feedback everyone!
When you first install the Note 4 (without the Oculus software installed) into the new GearVR do you still get prompted to download the Oculus software?

In that case it should also work with a N910C running stock firmware. I will post a update to say if it does once I get a Gear VR.
My verizon note4 works perfectly with the 2016 gear vr. It prompted me to install oculus apps.
Ive also streamed a few pc games from my gaming pc and it works well.
But it doesnt charge while in use through the passthrough charging port. Any workarounds for this?? I think I might need to get one of those 10000mah batteries.

Have seen zero workarounds. Good thing is this version is probably better with extended batteries and their fatter backs. Please let us know if you give it a go.
lukasz mentioned on the other Note 4 post that he had to make a headset mod. I guess that all depends on your vision and how recessed back into the headset you have to go. With my vision, I would not have to make that mod because it jutted enough forward to give me headset port clearance. Something to consider

VERY NICE and innovative, thanks for sharing!!!
Ok....I picked up a 323 this morning.....I'll do a report later.
I'm coming from the original Note 4 version which is superbly built
It will be fun to compare the 2?
I spent a good bit of time assessing the 323 with the Note 4 bearing in mind that I came from the 1st innovator edition.
I have to say that it's a big step forward
A few points
It fits in with no modding
I had to re boot the phone to get cardboard to work with the touch pad.... I use the Cardboard for Gear VR app
I think that the usb connector is a bit bit fiddly and sometimes you have to jig it a little to make contact......but I suspect that's the same for all phones on this VR....it might be the usb adapter
The headphone area doesn't need modding depending on what headphones you use.....Samsung phone ones grand....Bose QC 25 grand....Sennheiser 414's no go
The wide field of is fantastic and the lenses seem much sharper.......now this is important!..... When I first tried it there was some serious warping on the sides of the screens...movies etc. The fix is to delete every bit of Oculus and VR software (not cardboard apps) and resintall.....that seemed to improve it dramatically. I don't think I could have lived with the warping
It might be heating up the phone a bit faster but not sure about that without further testing. I find Samsung Internet a heat hog especially when streaming videos etc
The fogging is much better
Oh yes and the usb power socket doesn't work
The build quality can't compare but all in all it's a better vr experience......
I never tried the modded 322 so can't compare but I expect that the wider field of view would make it worth it
Bottom line is I'll be selling my Note 4 Innovator edition......although I think the value will drop now that this 323 has come out
Hope this helps:good:

Ive seen posts about the usb cords/dongles that you can use to connect any usb device to ur tablet,
if any case manufactures are listening, maybe you can make a semi hard case that has this functionality built it. kinda like the battery cases you see for iphone, but without the crappy large battery
while retaining charging capabilities....
1. with usb connection built into the case, to plug in a thumb drive, or any other device.
2. with built in 32gb or 64 gb into the case, and with charging capability's.
3. with built in rear facing camera
many people would buy any of these, or possibly one with all of the above
i dont have the motivation or knowledge to get something like this rolling, but im sure it would be a hit with the nexus 7 crowds because we have limited storage.
just saying, i would like to know what other people think...
and if any manufactures to decide to use my idea, please send me a demo to review since used my idea
From a modding perspective I can already think of several ways for this to be achieved pretty easily (minus the camera, I don't really know those too well). If you're comfortable with a soldering iron and have a bunch of time on your hands, most of these things can be achieved pretty cheaply.
Would love to see/build/buy this.
(brainstorm activated)
No company will make these because people are already crying about a 40$ tag price for a quality case. All they want is to pay 5$... With these features the price is gonna be too high for alot of people.

I thought about this Saturday morning minus the camera. I might have to build a prototype and put it on kick starter. I wish that I had a partner, I have a few ideas how to build it. I guess I need moral support lol.

A case with these capabilities is much different than a flap of material made in china.
add in extra battery haha. The Nexus Galaxy has the Hyperion case. If you made something similar for the nexus 7 and attach a micro USB to it. I would buy it. I dont need the extra battery power, but why waste extra space.
http://www.amazon.com/Hyperion-Rech...UTF8&colid=YT73S9A1ZS7X&coliid=I37XIVYNH3HLTI
Cont'd
I'd like a "case" with these features in the following order
1. OTG USB Hub
2. Stand of some sort
3. Full Size SD Card Slot
4. Extra battery
5. Decent Speakers (extra bass when in standing position)
6. 3G/4G module (like the IPOD to IPhone case, or perhaps a MiFi, or optional USB stick)
7. Built in battery charger
8. Keyboard
9. Camera
10. Solar Cell for charging
Cost = more expensive than the tablet but I'd still buy it
That is called a netbook! Hehehe! Peace!
I bought this tablet so that I didn't have all the bells and whistles and found I've used it so much more than the TF101 I have now sold. If I wanted all of those features in a case, I would have stuck with my original tablet .
Maybe I'm alone on this one... but I love that less is more and a case like that seems far too niche/defeats the purpose of the Nexus 7.

Which parts did you use to make this? I am unsure on what case would be suitable as well as the OTG cable. I would think you would want one as thin as possible as well as a USB type hub to allow charging

I agree with you, but a rear camera would be nice for adding pictures to notes during a seminar, lecture or presentation.
FWIW, my grandma prefers her iPad for pictures because she can see the people and frame the picture better than a 3" screen on a point and shoot.
Back to the topic, I'd be in for an Otterbox type with the camera, SD card (can always convert micro to normal), and extra battery to drive the accessories would be a great kickstarter project. Leather would be a great bonus. The challenge would keeping the entire package small.
Would be an interesting project on a 3D printer.
This is something I was thinking about this i ot my tab. Except for the rear cam, this is for myself. Cause I am so piss off of those micro USB that so fragile. Broke already 2 OTG cables and one charger cable (don't had the cables I broke for my phone). After have to be realistic, battery expansion and rear cam would be too big and also expensive. For a 7" tab that only cost $250.
Also have to think about the jack plug that is not so far from the USB. Problem is that with all of it no manufacturer would produce it, not enough margin even if people could buy it about $50/60 non-leather case. But still hope to can find something like that one day ^^. Only way I see it to become real would be to regroup a certain amount of people (a thousand at least), having someone able to design it, then issue a call for tender. sweet dream ^^
Mod this to hold Gnote 2 maybe?

that's kind of interesting. Although, kind of expensive. I believe the DiNovo Minis still go for around $150.

It's just a bluetooth keyboard. It has a flip cover when not in use, the Streak is just sitting on the cover. The streak is slightly bigger than the note I believe, so this would work as well.
I was able to sync the DiNovo Mini to the GN2 without issue. The GN just saw it as keyboard input device with a mouse input. I'm on the US Sprint variant, which is rooted, and running a deoxedized stock rom.
Here's a YouTube video showing it working and in the blue tooth synced device list.
Here are some pictures, with some being comparison shots (click on the image for larger image):
The issue I could see with the setup, especially in regards towards the OP's youtube link, the Galaxy Note does not have a landscape home screen mode. There are some apps that can do it; at least from what I found on a quick google search.
I still think it's a bit expensive for it's use. Plus, you would need to come up with a way to secure the GN to DiNovo, especially for environments such as train rides and so forth.
I use a case with kickstand and this rechargeable backlight Bluetooth keyboard with track pad I got for like $20-25.... works great.

I'm sure the Viimote, I think that's what it was called, works great. I've seen it referenced quite a bit for HTPCs. Unfortunately, doesn't seem like an altermative solution to what the original OP's link was to:
As once can see, the GN would be attached the DM's cover. This would be ideal for situations where you don't have surface to place either the GN or keyboard or when one is on the go. This is similar to what products like the Gameklip and trying to solve in regards to gamepad controllers.
that looks epic!! How securely does it attach?

I was thinking if you're going to secure it, one could try some kind of suction cup thing or maybe whatever something like the Rockfish Pivotpad uses. In the pictures, I just had it sitting on the DM cover. In the video, I just set in a PivotPad I have.
I had the same though about securing a second TPU case to it, but I would be concern about stretching the corners of TPU case(s) or damaging the phone from taking it on and off in cases where one is using it on their daily commutes. The biggest concern I would have, the weight distribution is not even by a long shot. I'm not sure if the weight, in the long term, will damage the hinge. It would be something to look into from the Dell Streak project.
I use my DiNovo for HTPC. So I just did to see if it worked the GN2. I figured size comparison shots between the GN2 and DM would be helpful for someone who wanted to take on the project. I think that is what the other person did, see if it works at all. $70 isn't bad for a blue tooth keyboard that is portable.
Like most things when using DM, you kind of have to figure out which functions work and how. I found escape (fnc + tab) was the back key. I didn't try any of the media keys. The mouse moved kind of slow for my liking; I have it set to max on the HTPC.

Just thought I'd put together a list of things I've bought myself for my G2 to try and improve things
Might be useful for anyone after recommendations, if you want to know how I found using any of these let me know!
32GB OTG Flash disk - (Yet to receive)
http://www.tinydeal.com/ssk-32gb-usb-20-to-micro-usb-flash-drive-otg-flash-disk-p-115334.html
This is amazingly compact and can operate in a normal laptop and phone.. Also will be useful for Windows 8" tablets. This is about a third of the regular price of these drives and seems to be a rebrand of the PQI drive.
3200mAH Battery Case
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121231899528?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
With integrated kickstand! This is no where near as good as a Mophie case but it works good enough for the money that was paid. The first thing to mention is that your phone will be ALOT bigger so only get this if you really must have the battery endurance you will notice the size difference. Also you will notice the buttons on the back not being there and how much you actually used the volume controls... To toggle the screen I recommend removing an icon in the middle of your screen so you have an easy place to click for activating knock on. This also doesn't have a lip to protect the screen however this could be useful if you are after a glass screenprotector (see below) All in all the case isn't too bad for the money if you use it top up your phone battery on the go.... This will also cancel your USB OTG functionality, I haven't yet figured out a way to for example use a memory stick or tv out with the case on...
Quick View Case with Stand
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rock-High...t=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item4acab9e626
A bit ugly if im honest but has really good grip, dont worry at all about getting phone out of my pocket when out and about... more importantly it doesn't cost £40 like the official one!!
Slimport Adapter
http://www.dabs.com/products/startech-com-slimport---mydp-to-hdmi-8ZCR.html
Best price I could find, Slimport does 1080p instead of MHL 1080i, however you will need external micro usb power to use it which will also charge your phone... No probs with picture or sound, makes good use of XBMC... Despite what you read, you do NOT need to have this plugged into a charger to work....
SteelSeries BT Gamepad
http://www.dabs.com/products/steels...etooth---ios--android--windows--mac-8KRK.html
Expensive but best reacharable mini gamepad I could find... warning the analogs are quite stiff.... Also i think i prefer the new samsung gamepad coming out
BT Keyboard / Mouse
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Wireless-Rii-Keyboard-Touchpad/dp/B004KFFQ5K
Very responsive and excellent battery, the light up keys is a nice touch... also features a tab button for form filling etc which apparently is annoying for alot of air mice as you have to keep turning it over etc.
Keyring Micro USB cable
http://www.culcharge.com/product.htm
Very small and hangs off my keychain quite comfortably, not yet really found a use for it but it's nice to know it's always there I think possibly the iPhone 5 version would be useful to alot of people.
Programmable headphone jack button - (Yet to receive)
http://get.pressybutton.com/
I'll prolly end up using this a hardware camera launch button as i miss this from my Lumia 920
Companion Smart Watch - (Yet to receive)
http://www.kreyos.com/
This i think will be useful for skipping music and operating phone as battery case covers the back buttons...
Companion / Standalone Smartwatch - (Yet to receive)
http://www.omate.com/
1GB Ram, 8GB ROM... really adding this to my list for completeness... As I can shove a 64GB MicroSD into this thing I will likely use this to offload storage when dowloading over 4G on the go....
SMART Glasses - filming - (Yet to receive)
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/pivothead-smart/x/4042531
Will be used for POV filming...
SMART Glasses - AR / VR (Yet to receive)
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/atheer-one-what-it-feels-like-to-have-superpowers/x/4042531
Really looking forward to these, I've owned several pairs of other VR glasses and having extension cables across the living room is not fun
They don't look to bad and should be mush easier to use then hooking up to a PC
USB OTG Micro SD Reader
http://dx.com/p/2-in-1-usb-micro-usb-otg-tf-memory-card-reader-white-silver-241505
Cheap cheerful and does the job actually really well, not as flimsy as you might think and it folds down nicely, a very affordable way of expanding your phone memory without spending a fortune on a dedicated usb stick... (see above)
USB OTG To Full USB
http://dx.com/p/micro-usb-on-the-go-host-otg-adapter-pair-50774
Fancy plugging any memory stick or anything else you can chuck at it, yup it just works as well as you think it would... YES you can even charge another phone!
Other interesting things.... I haven't bought any of the following but adding them in if anyone is curious...
Qi Charger case

Not sure how you actually order one of these but gives you some ideas if you want to put together your own case.

Until they start shipping them out it's going to be hard to really rate them, however I don't think there is anything similar on the market despite all the delays... and it's alot more subtle than the galaxy gear with more battery life.... Apparently Kreyos are showing them off at CES, wish they would just ship them out already... but when I get mine I will post how I'm finding it

Hi, I will post some pictures perhaps today, however I am having a major issue with charging both the case and the phone at the same time which suggests no pass through capability. I am going to try an ipad turbo charger as it has a larger mha as I want to rule out needing a high capacity 800-1000mha charger to be able to handle dual charging. Otherwise the case will be going back
The length I can mention is the same as an iPhone 5 that has been equipped with a mophie juice pack as the G2 case is much slimmer at the bottom.
Wait, so the length(height) of the G2 with said battery pack is the same height as an iPhone with a battery pack case installed? That is great news. I guess the only downside for me the lack of access to the rear keys. Also, I take this should fit the Verizon G2 with little to no issues?

The length I can mention is the same as an iPhone 5 that has been equipped with a mophie juice pack as the G2 case is much slimmer at the bottom.

That battery case looks awfully a lot like the Power Jacket battery case I am interested in buying:
https://shop.brando.com/Power-Jacket-for-LG-G2-3200mAh_p10405c1599d3.html
In the link I posted it states:
* Please Charge the Battery Case before Usage.
* Please Charge the Battery Case and LG G2 Separately. (Do Not Charge the Battery Case and LG G2 At the Same Time)
If this is the same case, then you can only charge the case and the phone separately which is indeed a hassle.
Yup same length as the iPhone 5 with Mophie, I noticed this as my phone was lying next to my gf's and realised how much the mophie battery pack adds to the bottom of the case, the G2 is pretty slim by the dock port...
Ok now that I've had the case for a few days it seems that you definitely need a really good USB charger to use it properly, it seems (and according to the instructions as well) that you can either charge Phone Only or Case Only. This is very different behavior to other battery packs that are able to charge both simultaneously, however these also generally cost 3x the price and are not sold for the G2
I have uploaded some pics of the case etc... sorry the flash on my tablet wasn't working as it needs a charge... I hope they help out a bit...
My only other point is that to get the case on is an absolute pig, as it doesn't come apart at the bottom so it took me a while to figure out how to get it at the right angle to fit....
You think you can post a picture of the bottom of the case?
Sure, I will take some more tonight... The only thing I can really add is that you definitely have to be proactive about charging the case, it's more of an external battery pack that's always on you instead of the mophie where you can pretty much just treat it as part of your phone and not think about it..
You think if enough people message Mophie they will make a case for our G2(even if it's a short case with 1200mah battery)?
They do offer cases for the Galaxy S4 but I don't think the G2 has been selling that well for Mophie to want to, can always try emailing them?
Yeah I noticed they make it for the S3 and S4. I'll email them and see what kind of reply I get.
So, the 32gb OTG micro USB flash disk, did you receive? Works fine?

I've not yet got the USB disk, it's been sent as shipped but I will put up details of it here when I receive it... I will be surprised if it turns up / not be a fake
I have also ordered the microsd reader which I have listed which looks very interesting for a few quid.

I use meenova mini microsd card reader with my LG G2 without any problem, from 4GB until 64 GB. but when i used it with my nexus 7 2013 FHD my microcd 64gb cannot be read. So better in LG G2
New Gear VR headset will be released with Note8.
It's already on Samsung.com.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers Legacy app
That sucks because I have 2 of those, one from N7 and other from S8.
Yeah its old news

That's been known for days now sir/ma'am...:good:
the good news: i went to town on it with a dremel this morning and it worked out great. i got my note 8 to fit in my 2016 gear vr
the bad news: i think i inhaled some of my gear vr

Note 8 fits in S8+ Gear VR
I pre-oreded the Note 8 and have been using it in my Gear VR I got on promo when I got my S8+ earlier this year. There is an A and B position to slide in the USB C or standard USB adapter in. I put mine in the furthest position and my Note 8 JUST clicks in. I feel a little nervous when I go to release it out because it is pretty tight feeling.
I got mine to fit as well but it is way to tight. I might take the dremel to it tomorrow.
It actually will work and does fit if you buy this: http://www.samsungparts.com/Products/Parts_and_Accessories/PID-GH98-41582A.aspx
Some of the 2017 editions have that adapter already. Its a bit of a tight squeeze but works. I got this from a youtube video where a guy talks about it and demos it going in to a 2016 with that plug.
It's a bit snug but fits fine in my 2017 gear vr.

Good demo video of the 323/4 and the 325 differences, the note 8 fits the older model, just

That's what I've been looking for. I"m sure the Note 8 will fit in the 2016 VR with that.
I may give the Dremel a try since I'll have this for a backup. Thanks!

I tried to Dremel the USB C that came with it. The problem is the whole things ends up being too long. I shaved about 3MM off the metal of the connector and it still worked but it did not go deep enough in for how much plastic I removed for it to be short enough :/
idk if I'm the only person whose had this problem. The Note8's Spen is thinner than previous model SPens, and I broke 3 (2 Samsung brand, one AWinner brand) between my fingers during normal use within the first 4 or 5 months of buying my Note 8.
I gave up after the 3rd one, but miss the pen sometimes.
Does anyone know of a sturdier 3rd party offering?
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
thx
I don't see how you can break your S-Pen as I find the S-Pen on the Note 8 to be quite sturdy.
I think that Spens are sufficiently strong and durable, only tip may ware out (after very intensive use) but those can be replaced...
Replacement S-pens will be cheapest option and the only option to fit in the phone.
There are third party - wacom compatible - pens available, e.g. from Bamboo, that will work with your Note 8 and may be stronger.

Could we some pics if you don't mind ? Will be helpful as a precaution tip.
Third party substitue
Staedtler Noris Digital
Get this if u r looking for a sturdier option... Of course you won't be able to keep it inside the phone.... But should be the best option available.....

I tend to disagree. I also own a Steadler Norris Digital. I find it quite fragile, mainly due to it's length. While it may not break during active use, I think it is vulnerable during transport/storage. Also the Steadler Norris lacks a button , which prevents use of functionalities in some apps (like activation of air command). It is a very nice replacement stylus though for specific purposes, I agree to that, but for me only for drawing on my larger Samsung Notebook 9 Pro.
Basically all S-pens are compatible between the Note series, and Samsung also has offered alternatives:
The full size pen for the Note 10.1 may be an option:

Samsung also has a stylus that holds a Note 1 S-pen, which I also own, and is quite sturdy as well:

Not sure whether the Samsung pens linked above are easy to buy...
Stylus holder seems good
That stylus holder thing looks good... Never heard about it... Let us know the reviews if you get hold of one.

I have that one since long time. I bought it when I owned a Note 2. Works flawlessly with all samsung Notes I have/had (Note 2, Note 4, Note 5, Note 10.1, Note 8, Notebook 9 Pro).
Holds much better than small S-pen from phone. Button is also easier to use. The stylus holder can only accommodate the Note 1 S-Pen - it was included with holder.
Althouth sensitivity of the S-pen has supposedly improved over the note series, when using the holder with enclosed Note 1 S-pen with Note 8 I do not notice the limited pressure sensitivity of that old S-Pen compared to the Note 8's own S-pen.
You may find the holder on ebay or other site...

I don't have pics but they all just broke in half. not much to see
S Pen from Note10+ fits and works, and more S Pen is newer version made from one plastic part instead of two pars on original Note 8, and much harder to break The downside - it's shorter, so to press push button you need to use little finger nail
