Note 8 won't fit to current Gear VR headset - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Accessories

New Gear VR headset will be released with Note8.
It's already on Samsung.com.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers Legacy app

That sucks because I have 2 of those, one from N7 and other from S8.

Yeah its old news
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/accessories/gear-vr-fits-note-8-t3664326
That's been known for days now sir/ma'am...:good:

the good news: i went to town on it with a dremel this morning and it worked out great. i got my note 8 to fit in my 2016 gear vr
the bad news: i think i inhaled some of my gear vr

Note 8 fits in S8+ Gear VR
I pre-oreded the Note 8 and have been using it in my Gear VR I got on promo when I got my S8+ earlier this year. There is an A and B position to slide in the USB C or standard USB adapter in. I put mine in the furthest position and my Note 8 JUST clicks in. I feel a little nervous when I go to release it out because it is pretty tight feeling.

I got mine to fit as well but it is way to tight. I might take the dremel to it tomorrow.

It actually will work and does fit if you buy this: http://www.samsungparts.com/Products/Parts_and_Accessories/PID-GH98-41582A.aspx
Some of the 2017 editions have that adapter already. Its a bit of a tight squeeze but works. I got this from a youtube video where a guy talks about it and demos it going in to a 2016 with that plug.

It's a bit snug but fits fine in my 2017 gear vr.

Good demo video of the 323/4 and the 325 differences, the note 8 fits the older model, just

That's what I've been looking for. I"m sure the Note 8 will fit in the 2016 VR with that.
I may give the Dremel a try since I'll have this for a backup. Thanks!

I tried to Dremel the USB C that came with it. The problem is the whole things ends up being too long. I shaved about 3MM off the metal of the connector and it still worked but it did not go deep enough in for how much plastic I removed for it to be short enough :/

Third-party car windshield mount?

Has anyone found a descent third party car windshield mounth for the Galaxy Tab yet?
Here is one.
Saw something similar on eBay, isn't the "claws" way to big? looks like you could hold a brick with that.
I got the above in car mount as part of the modaco superetrader offer, it's very good and versatile considering the price but the longer arm is almost too wide, so it's a bit fiddly when mounting the brackets on the short sides of the tablet, and there seems to be no way of mounting the brackets on the long sides of the tablet without them pressing the power and volume buttons
Attached is the one Samsung shop gave me free with my galaxy tab and they said the desktop dock also coming soon and they will give me one for free as well .

Aren't the side bits just fairly hard foam? Would it be possible to cut out grooves where the buttons are to stop it pressing on them?

I have the RAM holder for my old Samsung Q1U's, I found that the SGT w/ the soft case on it wedges rather nicely into it w/o risk of falling out. Because the Q1u is longer than the SGT, the mount does stick out about half an inch on each side.
wow

Doesn't look like it has anything to hold it in place, so it's more of a perch than anything, any sudden acceleration and it looks like the tab could fall off.
Shame if that's the case, as it looks good otherwise.

That blue stuff you see is INCREDIBLY sticky, but leaves no residue when it releases. That Tab won't be going anywhere unless there's one hell of a frontal impact on the vehicle (or you own a Veyron with a strap-on rocket booster).

NOT BAD.. seems like it will work with a gel case, im using the ebay one i bought for my ipad and it works great just tends to cover the volume buttons on the case depending how i place it on there. , im still debating if getting the one by slipgrip is gonna be worth it.. depending on if there a holster case that comes out later down the road, i have a slip grip mount for my otterbox defender case on my hd2 and its perfect so im sure the slip grip one for the tab with a gel case would fit perfect just worried if i switch cases later down the road then can't use the slip grip anymore.
heres the slip grip

seems like they sell two types with case or without and a mount that goes on ram mounts.

Brodit active car dock on pre order finally

Finally ordered one!!!
not cheap, actually very expensive but if you have used brodit before i think you will agree they are the best docks avalible especially if you dont want them on your windscreen and want the phones held securely.
its a preorder at moment, but if you want one and your in the uk
http://www.dsldevelopments.com
item number 513432
ive ordered all my previous brodits from them and they have always been top notch.
i will get a few pics up when it arrives.
just a heads up
Damn that's expensive tough
Any word on when it would be available?
I placed my order two days ago and received an email indicating backorder status. I ordered mine to be shipped next day air so hopefully I will have it soon. I can't handle not having a car dock.
I totally agree its very expensive. But I know it will work as advertised unlike other docks ive had nightmares with (1 broken screen, 2 phones had usb ports broken. 1 cracked windscreen when I tryed to remove a sucker when it was about minus 5).
Ive also selected next day. From experiace with the hox it was here within a few days when on back order. I will kepp you posted.

If you're in the US, you can go to Proclipusa.com it looks like you can order these for immediate shipment.
As you said they're not cheap, but these look like really high quality mounts and docks.
Just ordered mine from proclips. I have bought one for almost every phone I've had. Hopefully it arrives quickly I feel lost without somthing to slide my phone into every time I jump in my truck. Best vehicle dock I have used by far.

I'd much rather see Samsung make one just like the original note. I prefer my gps in landscape mode, and haven't seen a car dock with this option yet.

The brodit allows both!. You just twist the dock to your desired orientation.
Ive had an email saying my dock will be here in 7-10 days, its gona be a long wait

I ordered mine from proclipusa yesterday and got an email today saying they are on backorder... Hopefully it won't be too long. Ordered two of them and one vehicle mount. Ouch... BUT, one of those setups with a Note II is a badass GPS device imo. Also, as soon as they come out with radios with BT supporting Apt-X, I'll be able to have an awesome CD quality music source, sans wires...
Proclip thats who I ordered mine thru and it's backorder 1-7 days according to my email.

I loved my ProClip mount for my Garmin iQue, it's a quality piece. My only decision is where do I want to mount it? I've got a Toyota Camry, I'm leaning towards the angled mount, but that console with tilt looks good, too.
ETA Back after unloading a total of $104 - about three times as much as the first one I purchased. Sheesh. It's a good unit, though.
I ordered arkon slim grip for galaxy note and it still works for galaxy note 2.
I love it .

I too have had excellent service from Brodit, no problems there. I currently still using Brodit Note 1 holder. The micro USB is still in the same position if not a big awkward to locate straight away. Because the Note 2 is slightly narrower than its predecesor it does rattle round in the holder a little bit but is perfectly usable.

I'm not sure what the best way to enable it is, but I just use CarHome (I think that's what it's called). When I plug it into the car, I just launch the app which takes literally zero seconds. There may be better options though.
This is my first ProClips purchase and I've got to say, it's an out-freaking-standing mount. Very solid and the range of motion is great. Worth absolutely every penny as long as it doesn't become loose in tolerances or anything. As long as it endures like it should, I'm glad I purchased this. I ordered mine on the 5th and got the backorder notification as expected. Shipped on the 8th, arrived on the 9th, and was at home as I returned from picking up the phone. Great timing.
the only problem i can see is it doesnt look like u can adjust it for cases.

Nope and that sucks a bit, but usually the components that make a mount adjustable are ones that can detract from the stability of the setup, so I'll take it. If you've got a difficult case to remove like a Defender, it's going to be a bit more of a hassle.... I am just buying a Body Glove case for very basic protection, and should be easy enough to remove/replace when needed.
But yeah the fact that it won't accommodate a case will be a deal breaker for many I think.

Just received my email back from Proclip:
"Item number 521432 is not currently in stock, but it is scheduled to arrive early this week; once we have it since we ship from Madison WI shipping to you would take 1 business day.
This holder is designed with the bare phone in mind, so unfortunately it will not fit with even a very thing case."
Kind of disappointed because I was going to jump on this so long as it fit with the Samsung flip case.

3d printed active cooling cover for gear vr

https://www.youmagine.com/designs/cooling-cover-for-samsung-gear-vr-note-4
My best friend just bought and set up his 3d printer, im going to have him make me this!!!
That's great! Except the front of the Gear VR is already heavy enough. I would build it so the power supply is hanging off the back headband instead of the face of the unit.
very cool
That could work (attaching the battery pack to the strap). I just wanted to keep it simple.
I've attached a fan with 2 battery packs on the strap. Just wasn't worth it at the end of the day. I posted pictures a few days after the gear vr was released

Note 4 and the new Gear VR SM-R323

I was not seeing my questions answered in detail about the new Gear VR, so I decided to just buy the item myself and give it a test run with my Note 4.
Yes, it works and fits just fine without modding.
No, the charge port still does not work even with the provided adapter.
Yes, you can enjoy cardboard apps with it.
No, your D-pad will not work with Cardboard apps.
They say the field of view is greater. It is obviously less for me, at least for the Note 4.
It is definitely a midnight blue color with black accents. Looks black in a lot of photos.
No you may not mod the cover with a cooling fan because the cover does not fit while the phone is mounted.
In conclusion, I will be returning the product because while the Gear VR experience is super cool, the last model (SM-R322), once modded, is better on all fronts minus working charge port.
Edit: I got the D-pad to work with Google Cardboard by restarting the phone
Didn't snap a few pictures with the Note 4 in it by any chance? I assume that the headphone jack is blocked off as well?

I'm pretty sure it is, but let me see if I can open the pkg back up and get a few pics
My bad, getting pics now. No, headphone jack is NOT blocked off. Ok, here is the mask that lessens the field of view from the old one. There is the cover that doesn't fit while the phone is mounted, and there is the headphones jack clearance that can now be used.
I wonder if the cover doesn't fit because you have a Note 4. If it's the same for all phones I guess it's just to protect the lens.

Could be but I'm sure I read the same complaint for a different model elsewhere. Perhaps someone else can confirm or deny.
The fit is also quite different. This cover latches into the clips in place of the phone while the older one wraps around the bulk of the front enclosing the headset. This cover does not enclose, it just kinda sits in there.

I have the 2015 version and I only use the cover to protect the lens when I'm not using it. I don't see the purpose of using the cover when your phone is in the Gear VR. Besides it may hold in heat. I don't think many people with the older gear use the cover with the phone in. That's probably why they redesigned it as a protective cover when not in use.

Yeah, I gotcha. Those of us with really awful overheating issues have come to depend on that old cover for our cooling mods. The info about the cover is applicable to those owners. Appreciate the feedback everyone!

In that case it should also work with a N910C running stock firmware. I will post a update to say if it does once I get a Gear VR.
My verizon note4 works perfectly with the 2016 gear vr. It prompted me to install oculus apps.
Ive also streamed a few pc games from my gaming pc and it works well.
But it doesnt charge while in use through the passthrough charging port. Any workarounds for this?? I think I might need to get one of those 10000mah batteries.

Have seen zero workarounds. Good thing is this version is probably better with extended batteries and their fatter backs. Please let us know if you give it a go.
lukasz mentioned on the other Note 4 post that he had to make a headset mod. I guess that all depends on your vision and how recessed back into the headset you have to go. With my vision, I would not have to make that mod because it jutted enough forward to give me headset port clearance. Something to consider

VERY NICE and innovative, thanks for sharing!!!
Ok....I picked up a 323 this morning.....I'll do a report later.
I'm coming from the original Note 4 version which is superbly built
It will be fun to compare the 2?
I spent a good bit of time assessing the 323 with the Note 4 bearing in mind that I came from the 1st innovator edition.
I have to say that it's a big step forward
A few points
It fits in with no modding
I had to re boot the phone to get cardboard to work with the touch pad.... I use the Cardboard for Gear VR app
I think that the usb connector is a bit bit fiddly and sometimes you have to jig it a little to make contact......but I suspect that's the same for all phones on this VR....it might be the usb adapter
The headphone area doesn't need modding depending on what headphones you use.....Samsung phone ones grand....Bose QC 25 grand....Sennheiser 414's no go
The wide field of is fantastic and the lenses seem much sharper.......now this is important!..... When I first tried it there was some serious warping on the sides of the screens...movies etc. The fix is to delete every bit of Oculus and VR software (not cardboard apps) and resintall.....that seemed to improve it dramatically. I don't think I could have lived with the warping
It might be heating up the phone a bit faster but not sure about that without further testing. I find Samsung Internet a heat hog especially when streaming videos etc
The fogging is much better
Oh yes and the usb power socket doesn't work
The build quality can't compare but all in all it's a better vr experience......
I never tried the modded 322 so can't compare but I expect that the wider field of view would make it worth it
Bottom line is I'll be selling my Note 4 Innovator edition......although I think the value will drop now that this 323 has come out
Hope this helps:good:

Note 8 and VR?

I hate removing my case just to fit it into Samsung's Gear VR for the Note 8. And I hear that Google's Daydream should fit even with a case?
Is there that big of a difference between the 2 VR headsets? I don't know much about these.
Daydream is Google's vr, oculus is what Samsung uses. Daydream kind of sandwiches your phone into it where as Samsung locks it in with hardware clips. I haven both, but prefer oculus myself. Both work well.
Daydream works well for me
Has anybody used the Note 8 with a plastic Google Cardboard viewer? The Viewmaster VR was my go to viewer for all my phones but the Note 8 barely fits without a case, I'm afraid I'll scratch it up if I keep using it like that. All the other VR viewers have a maximum 6" phone size limit

What do you mean? GearVR and Cardboard are two different VR platforms/headsets.
Note 8 obviously works with the GearVR. And it also works with Google Cardboard, since someone just a few posts up started they were using it with a Carboard headset.
