Phone got wet. What should I do?

I bought my Xperia X1 in Hong Kong about 2 weeks ago. It has gotten wet...
I tried to turn it on (foolishly) without letting it dry and the screen turned on but then quickly went blurry. Then when i tried to turn it on later the LED flash lite up but nothing else.
now when I put in the battery the keyboard lights up.
does anybody know i sony ericssons warranty will cover this? or if this can even be repaired? any estimates on how much it will cost?
any advice? I am going to let it dry for 2 or 3 days and try to turn it on again.

Open the back side of the phone. And see if you're battery has changed colors or somethin on the back of the phone.
These things uses colors to tell if somethin got wet. Usualy I believe the sticker get's red when it has touched watter. Then the warrenty will not count anymore,

Put on towel on radiator and pray to whatever god you believe in!
If that fails and you don't have insurance then it's not looking good...

do you think SE will atleast repair it outside the warranty?
can i get this fixed somehow? or am i stuck with a 800 dollar brick?

I obviously can't guarantee this will work, but it's worth a try. This has worked for me in the past for several waterlogged phones, including phones dropped in swimming pools.
Don't attempt to power on the phone anymore. Get hold of a hair dryer. Remove the back cover (of the X1, not the hair dryer.) Remove the battery and set it aside (DON'T heat it!) and the stylus, and slide the phone open.
Place the phone face down with the open back facing the hair dryer's air stream, but at least a few inches away. Set it on lowest speed heat, prop both the phone and hairdryer up to make sure they don't move, and leave the X1 for an hour or two, checking how hot it gets every 10 minutes. Don't let it get too hot to hold comfortably.
After an hour or so, let it cool in a dry place for an hour or so, then repeat the hair-drying again.
Don't try to power it on until at least 1 or 2 cycles have been completed. If it doesn't work, you might have to do this over the space of a day or so.

Just replace the battery, then make a story.

it worked!!!
but I still have water marks trapped under the screen. they are somewhat obvious when the screen is a bright green background or white.
how do I remove the water marks?
my warranty is already void presumably. can i open the case and just whip it off? is there another way to remove the moisture?

Try taking the battery panel off and battery out and leaving the phone in your airing cupboard or next to your hot water tank for a couple of days. That worked for me when my wife accidentally washed her Ipod Nano in the washing machine

ive done a few waterrepairs an have gotten all but one back to life(without any water stains let at all)
first remove battery as soon as possible and dont put it back until the end.
then dismantle the device
then put all parts (except battery) on a towel and then into the owen at 60 C for about 2 hours, (sometimes i had to do it twice)
then let everything cool off and then just put it all togheter
last but not least - start your phone again =)
if the battery has a waternotifier(red dot) then you really should get a new
battery but my old tytn still runs as it should even tho the red dot is present.

Glad to have been of help then
Those "water marks" are probably due to water trapped between the touchscreen layer and the actual LCD panel itself. Don't disassemble the X1. Getting to the display portion isn't easy and you run the risk of losing a part or screwing the thing up. And don't worry about the water indicator labels - you're not likely to find matching ones anyway without going to a service center.
You can try leaving it for about an hour or so on the low hairdryer setting, with the touch screen directly facing the warm air stream.
Again, be careful with the heat and make sure the screen doesn't get too warm to comfortably press the back of your hand on it. The LCD doesn't like this much, but it's a necessary evil...

i replaced the battery and i am also requesting to have the screen replaced also as soon as my local SE store gets a replacement screen they will swap it for me. they said it will only cost 60USD.

The one on the oustside under the battery is the most obvious one.. but just wondering if there are any on the actual PCB inside as well.

I can spot only 2 on the outside. My dots turn pink (not red) and I replace them with glossy white sticker. These can fools repair center twice!
They repaired my X1 without any doubt/complain twice! (SIM not detected/Loud Speaker won't work Respectively)
Even now they still honor my warranty!
You can try these if you dry your X1 well enough (the exterior is in good condition ie. no water mark/stain)

lol i have been trying to think to work that way where can you find those grossy sticker? I let my x1 get wet ont he table last 2 weeks, both the watermark is gone , ut luckly phone is perfectly function , after using an airdryer for half an hour and leave it in airy for 2 days,

just fyi for everyone here: if you have a phone (any phone) that gets wet or submerged be sure and leave it off until it COMPLETELY dries out. If you leave it on when there is still water in it some of the connectors may corrode. The reasoning for this is that I do believe that some metals corrode faster/only when water is on them and an electric current is passed through them.

I got my phone wet a few days earlier - dropped it into the bath tub
Aired it out for a few days, keys still won't work, and sent it for repairs - good thing is, the SE guys still honored my warranty (despite the red label) and changed my screen FREE OF CHARGE.

60 C may melt some plastic components of the phone circuit..

[Q] Help black screen i can hear sound/vibration

I just bought this phone today it rained strong and I kept in my pocket and saw that there were some drops on the screen and behind it was a bit 'but just a little' wet, now when I try to turn the screen is completely black, only the lights of the buttons turn on, if i press the volume button i hear the volume sounds but the lcd remains like turned off no retroillumination, nothing! Of course i cannot enter in download/recovery mode, i am desperate i have bought this phone few hours ago!

Now,quickly remove battery, sim, micro sdcard, everything you can remove and put it in dry place to dry.

I had exactly same situation when my phone got wet. I removed also motherboard and other stuff. It didn't worked, so I ordered new screen for 100euros.

Each repair center has its price, try asking to some center of your city. Let him check the phone because many times when a phone drops in water the motherboard may be damaged.

Put your phone in a bowl of rice and let it stay there for about 12hours. If there is any water inside the screen it should fix it. I also had that problem, my screen would fade to grey etc. and my camera got blurry. So i left it for one night and all water got drained. Try it before taking your phone to service.

I'm an informatic/electronic technician, this method sometimes works and sometimes not, all depends from some factors: the time that the phone spent immersed in water, the timeliness in removing the battery, if the phone was switched on immediately to see if it works etc. Control that the rice is humid after many hours, if is too humid empties the bowl and put another dry rice.

Yes I know, but i saved many phones using that method.

I'm not saying that it doesn't work, just that can work like can't work I tried only once just for test and worked, other times didn't work for factors that I wrote in previous post, more than anything else I say because if the method doesn't work the user can't say that doesn't work while sometimes works and sometimes not

I tried it in the 1st place. Then I turned it on and that thing happened

I replaced my screen on August from Kolkata. Samsung Service Center took 5k to replace my screen

Put your phone into rice for 24h and try again

Open the phone and get out the screen and the motherboard, be sure to dry them real good and then try to assembly it again, if it doesn't work, one piece is broken.

Yes, open the phone or let someone open it - dry it (with towels), let it dry for a day and then assemble. If it doesn't work, there may be components that can be replaced. The water damage is not always the end of it.

Blank screen always means you'll have to replace it, if after 24h in rice it doesn't come back.

Liquid damage, Screen is not lighting up

My OP3 was kept in a bag (water resistant), during a heavy rain, I thought the phone is safe in that bag. But some water got leaked into the bag and the phone was kept in the bag for almost 1hour.
When I checked the phone after reaching home, it's got turned off(enough charge was there), I tried to turn it on, it did light up for a while and then turned off. I used a hair dryer to dry it and kept it in rice for 2 days. After that, it turned on normally, I tried to charge it. I got a call after few minutes of charging, spoke for a minute, but after the call the screen didn't light up. My phone is working fine except the screen. touch is working fine, I can unlock using the touch screen (It has a pattern lock), I can use google assistant to make calls, play music. But just that screen is not lighting up.
I am not sure what to do now, I think the issue is because of some short circuit. I don't think it's a right question to ask, can it be fixed without the whole screen replacement? (I think screen costs too much for my budget), also please share me if you have any links for buying the screen.

It's very likely that there is "only" some corrosion by the display connector because of the water. This probably causes the short circuit. If you can see some corrosion inside the phone (especially under the display connector) on the board, clean it carefully with a soft toothbrush and Isoprpyl alcohol (from the pharmacy).
Worked for me on my old Xperia.

Open up the phone and clean it out.. Might be some corrosion indeed. Watch JerryRigEverything, he explains it very well. I wonder, how much water came inside?

Yes mate, this is your only option, to open up the phone and check for rust. Be sure to dissconect the battery, and use coke in case you find any corrosion or rust. Googd luck
