Better camera app to make better photos and especially better video stabilization? - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

Hi,
on my oneplus x i used the "Open Camera" app to make noticable better pictures.
Anyone found a camera app which makes better pictures especially better software video stabilization would be great.

Why does the P9 need it.
Camera is great except for stabilization in video.
No big deal
Sent from my EVA-L19 using XDA-Developers mobile app

This - the camera app is amazing.
Sure the video isn't great, but it's worth checking that you have video stabilisation turned on. I had to go into the app and turn it on, it fixed a bunch of issues for me!

Since the phone utilizes dual camera setup, i doubt that there is 3rd party app that can make use of both sensors at the moment.

This what...? Can't see any useful information or links....

I've tried almost all and the native camera app is the best and the fastest. For video, indeed you need to turn on stabilization in the settings.
The only app that comes close for me is Snap Camera HDR. It's the only one that gives the same results in low light (auto low light mode on) and it actually gives you more control over HDR shots. The HDR shots are actually a bit better in this app. Only thing is the shutter is a bit slower, because it auto-focuses when you hit the shutter button.

Sorry do not found such setting where do i turn the video stabilization on can you share a screenshot, please?

ahh found it

Camera Zoom FX App

I noticed a dramatic difference between the Google Camera and the 3rd party Camera Zoom FX application. The Google Camera brings in a good amount of light into the lens even in marginal situations. Camera Zoom FX is pulls in so much less light. There's no setting I can figure out. Could Lollypop restrict camera access in some funky way that is preventing the 3rd party app from taking full advantage of the lens?
i have noticed this in pretty much all 3rd party camera apps. people have reported that video conferencing in hangouts is also very dark
i have spent all day looking at different camera apps. i cant get "a better camera" to auto focus (but it has better in app lighting), camera zoom fx is much darker than "a better camera" but has good focus. the google camera app from banks gapps seems really gimped (no panorama, no 360, no hdr) and wont let me install the play store google camera (i got 504 errors with banks installed, and 505 when i moved thew camera2 folder from system/apps).
i am now looking into flashing a moto camera app, or trying to flash a closer to stock google camera app (preferably one that doesnt share signitures)

Check out Camera FV-5. They have a paid version and a lite (free). I spent the $3.99 and it works really well. It also has a lot of controls.

you can get good photos if you remove from recents, but the viewfinder is always dark. see attached. pure shamu b3.1/senseiR20.5, rooted.
i can almost get the moto camera app to work... it takes 1080p soundless video consistently, but photos crash the app, and hdr doesnt work

Alright, so I tried to take some pictures in a room with no lights on and only some natural light coming through the blinds. They look dark like your sample photos. Opened the slimGAPPS camera and everything works, including HDR, correct brightness, etc. I haven't tried recording video. As soon as I turn a light on, it seems to work normally.
In the camera fv5 app, I went and adjusted some of the exposure settings and shutter, the photo brightened right up.
Not sure what is going on. I will try a few more things and report back.

It's funny, it doesn't look like the photos themselves are too bad, just the display on the preview on the screen (i.e., the screen viewfinder). I am wondering if there is some Lollypop function that is not being taken advantage of fully by the 3rd party apps.

[Q] Can I assign a different camera app to the physical camera button?

As the title states, I'm wondering if I can assign the Google camera app to the physical camera button on my Xperia Z3C.
I find the stock camera app is very poor at keeping focus and takes sub-par images when compared to other camera apps available on Google Play.
Also, anyone have any tips for taking better pictures with the Z3C? I'm finding that despite the camera's high number of pixels, it's not the best for taking pictures, even when compared to my old iPhone 4!
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
AS far as I know, it is possible only when you are rooted. Since rooting (with unlocking bootloader) affects the camera quality, which you want to change, i'd go for it.
I am using Camera FV-5 for taking pictures and that is much better than the auto/manual mode on the stock camera and Lapse-it Pro for Timelapse videos.
Anyway, the biggest improvement should be seen, when Android 5.0+ is released with RAW DNG (and Long Exposure), and then we will see the advantage of a 20MP sensor - but probably only with a different camera app than the stock one

Best camera app & settings?

I'm curious as to what your favorite app and settings you use for your 3T. I'm a OnePlus n00b and have been using the stock app along with Cameringo+ with good results but ideas are always welcomed. I'd do a poll but the options are endless.
Stock camera app and ProShot with noise reduction disabled. That's all you need.

Thanks but I don't see Pro Shot or Noise Reduction in the stock app. Where do I find those? I checked both Settings options.
Unless you mean Manual mode and leave everything else on Auto.
HDRa is Auto HDR, HQ is best for low light. In camera when you see video, camera etc click the cog and you can select RAW. You won't see these in your gallery but using lightroom or snapspeed (it's free) you can open a picture from gallery and it will pick up on the raw photo. These look awful to begin with as they are not processed at all and are 50mb+ but one you develop them yourself to your desired look you get some quality photos from them.

I thank you for your reply and I'm aware of the RAW format and Snapseed/Photoshop/etc. I'm more interested in the settings for most everyday use of the camera on the OnePlus 3T.
I've been having good results with CameraMX

I have been trying open camera from time to time. It allows you to enable the camera 2api and takes some great pictures. I find the flash on stock flawed at times as if the shutter speeds is off point to the flash and this overcomes that problem.
I'm not a big selfie fan or photo gay. But in my Samsung S6 I'm using stock camera application with few addons + Candy Selfie for taking selfies when I need.
Can anyone help me with the video settings.
In 1080p OIS does not seem to work at all
1080p / 60fps it does work
I cannot find any settings to alter this. Thanks.

Camera Noise Reduction - Remove this awful 'feature'

Hi everyone,
I thought I'd post this as since I've had my S5 (within last 6 months) I have been quite disappointed by the quality of the camera images, particularly in mid to low light. Having had a Xperia Z2, LG G3 and G2 I had seen that the S5 was meant to have by far the best camera out of its peers. Unfortunately, while not as anywhere near as bad as the Z2, the S5 is significantly worse than both the G3 and the G2, mainly due to the awful noise reduction implemented by the Samsung firmware. The Z2 also had this problem in spades, and the only way to remove it was to unlock the bootloader and erase the DRM keys.
I though that this was the same on the S5 (or even completely impossible), but have recently discovered a camera app called 'Snap Camera HDR' in the Play Store. There is a free version and a paid version.
The app is the most fully featured camera app I have seen (I have used Open Camera, Camera FV-5 and many others), with tonnes of options and manual controls.
They key thing though is that it allows you to disable the built in noise-reduction: Go through the menu and select, then deselect the option 'Denoise'
There are also options to select 'Samsung Camera Mode' which enables real-time HDR (you have to select 'Use OpenGLES 2.0' under 'Other'), and you can also increase image sharpness and
change compression levels.
I've done some real world tests and I think the difference is huge. I'd rather have a little bit of noise and keep a sharper, more detailed, more natural image.
Here are some comparisons (I've cropped them down so you can see the detail more easily):
(P.S.: I have absolutely nothing to do with the Snap Camera developers)
Hm, nice find. I'm not sure if I'd need it thought since I'm on the Note 7's camera app. Any idea if the Note's camera app has this problem or not? I'm no picture taking guy so i can't tell by myself. I've barely used my camera during the past 3 years.
PS: The S5's camera was never good in low light, its strength was only during the day
great, great discovery I was propio looking for a good room for lineage 15.1 unofficial, thanks
This also seems to work without root (I have root but the app has never asked for SU permissions). I'm not sure why other camera apps don't have this feature.
Camera FV-5 has several image adjustments (such as saturation and sharpness) but they don't actually seem to work.
I have an AT&T S5 so I'm unfortunately stuck with stock based ROMs. Does anyone know if this heavy handed noise reduction exists on AOSP or other ROMs?
This might actually make me like my S5. I'm looking forward to getting out and taking some decent shots with the phone now!
Here is an example of the highly customisable UI
Also the built in camera of LineageOS 14.1 has the option to disable camera noise reduction.
With this camera you also have the possibility to take pictures in RAW mode without compression and you can also use HDR mode (but without flashlight) :good:

RAW? I didn't think Camera2 was supported on the S5 hardware..? Is the Lineage camera available as an apk?

I don't know if it is RAW but pictures in best quality mode have a very big filesize.

Probably not RAW then. You'd know if it was RAW as you'd have to use a special image viewer and process the photographs afterwards.
I can't install it to test unfortunately as I'm limited to Lollipop.
Resurrecting this.
Tried the app in a hope it would allow me to disable the noise filter on my Galaxy Note 7 LDU. It does. But it also restricts the shutter speed to 1/10th of a second. Unacceptable having up to 10 seconds capability. Overall the app has a hard to use and confusing UI. Users complain that there is no support at all to ask devs for help or features. Ditched it.

Fair enough. I still use it and as far as I'm concerned it's the best camera app for Android. I get what you mean about the UI, but what I like is that you can customise it quite a lot.
You can use the 'gesture' / 'pie' controls, or (as I do) chose to add all the required switches and adjustments as static buttons around the camera edge.

A better camera quality for apps like - Skype, Instagram , Whatsapp etc

Since I have succesfully activated HAL3 on our device, I started getting amazing pictures with the help Google Camera. The noise reduction is off, the quality is crystal-clear, which means that we haveamazing sensors on both our cameras, the rear and front one.
But even with this feature turned on, the quality of the built-in cameras of Instagram, Skype, Google Duo , Whatsapp and Viber offer a very low quality of the image even when taking photos but most important - when making a video call. The quality is awfull, just like the stock camera with it's noise reduction on. Blury image and very low FPS while in a videocall. We have great camera modules on our phone, so how to find in the ROMs a way to make these apps use the best quality available of our cameras? Is it related to HAL1 or HAL3 or is there a code in the kernel that can be modified? Or what is the key to make it work better?
When opening the video camera of the stock camera app - the image is clear and the noise-reduction is off...so it is amazing, even the fps is high, no glicthes. As soon as I switch the camera back to the photo, I get a blury image and low fps in of the viewfinder.... exaclty the same is within any of the above meantioned apps. How to make a better camera quality when using them? I haven't found any solution anywhere on the XDA forum not even on the 4pda forum.
Am I the only one concerned about this fact?
The front camera of this device is OV5675 Sensore and read on their page, it says it can handle video recording of Full HD at 60FPS
Than why did the MIUI limit it's capabilities so low? To make it look like a cheap sensor and sell the phone as budget?
Anyone?
