My AT&T Galaxy S5 (Lollipop) says there is an "update available, connect to wifi". Its 895MB so I'm assuming its MM.
Any problems going to MM from Lollipop ? How can I find if all my apps are compatible with MM ?
I just turned on wifi and it started to download. I turned off wifi for now so it stopped.
Have they addressed most of the bugs with MM ?
These may be dumb questions, but I hate to change things when they are going good as they are...

here is ifo on update log : https://www.att.com/devicehowto/tut...tep_KB424848?make=Samsung&model=GalaxyS5G900A
After seeing the update availability on Sunday night (8/28), my wife and I downloaded and updated both of our S5s with the 895mb file from AT&T. Downloads took a little over an hour and updates about 20 minutes. No obvious problems and both phones seem as or more stable than with 5.1.1. Battery usage seems dramatically improved as well. We've each run through most of our favorite apps and nothing seems amiss.
Getting reading to change our SD cards to adoptable (internal storage) tonight. Hopefully that goes well.

No problems and although some people are saying battery life is unchanged from 5.1.1, that is definitely not the experience I'm having. My use is fairly consistent from day-to-day and I find i have about 20% more battery life left at the end of the day. However, I do no gaming of any kind and video is generally limited to youtube technical stuff and an occasional movie trailer.
Again, the experience is certainly not less than before the upgrade.
One disappointment however. Samsung does not support using the SD as an internal device, even though the OS does.
I'm now looking into rooting the device, but it seems a little early since MM was just released.

Thanks for the update.
So the phone does not see the SD card anymore with MM ?
I thought the AT&T version couldn't be rooted because the bootloader is locked..

I can see the SD card just like before, but one of the features of MM is to allow the SD card to be treated as internal storage so that apps can be loaded there. Unfortunately, Samsung has somehow caused this to be disabled on their devices (even on the S7 with MM). Rooting would be the only way past that as far as I know.
I believe there are instructions here on xda to root an AT&T S5, but only with KitKat at this point.

Since I use a MiFi for connectivity, I've never used the Mobile Hot Spot and don't have it on my plan.
I did check my phone for availability, however, and it's right there in Network settings. If I attempt to turn it on it just tells me I need to go to AT&T to get a plan. If you have a plan it should work.

I'm on a mobile share plan which says it includes Mobile Hotspot (which I have been using without a problem). Just wanted to make sure MM didn't screw it up. Thanks for checking. I guess I'll update it this weekend and see how everything goes

I checked and Gomdolight is for Korean version (f340 I think), are you sure you can?
(in the thread of Gomdolight, 1 guy was successfully installed, but he said nothing different, hhope he did not mean about wifi)
Could you report your try here?
Thanks in advance
Yes, I did as well and came to the same conclusion as the Dev did regarding the post stating no real changes noticeable. I plan to pm that member later on to see if he has any more feedback/advice before I commit. From what I gather the more modded features involve Korean based apps and such so for a D950 user not to notice is not surprise. I should know more tomorrow evening weather or not it is effective or not. Would do it sooner but I need to stay connected today so..... I'll keep you posted.
For me, the wifi strength is important. The rom itself does not matter.
Anyway, waiting for your post
==== edit =====
I had some time to check Gomdolight. Actually it is not a ROM, but a Modifier (remove system apps)
I don't think they change something for wifi-driver, which I believe is the problem for the weak wifi.
but just let me know how it is improved with your Gflex
thanks

Hey,my apologies to all who were waiting on the results of my attempted flash of the Gomdolite firmware mod. I'm sorry to report that although it installed successfully( albiet in a limited capacity due to variant and build discrepancies), it did not resolve my wifi woes.I will continue running Gomdolite despite that fact. Off topic and my apologies in advance, but it has improved my devices overall speed and fluidity. Hope someone has a solution soon...Btw, since my D950 doesn't have to function as my primary phone as of yesterday, (returned to Samsung, Note4) I am willing to Guinea pig for the common good of finding a resolution to our issues.Let me know if you got anything to test.

good question on the counter, I have restarted my phone and have not seen it, Buuut I did freeze knox though. As far as updating Use Kies took about 10 mins
USB audio?
I got the Lollipop update this morning through T-mobile. It was smooth to update, and I haven't noticed battery issues or anything others had reporter.
However, I was super-excited for Lollipop, because it allows for USB microphones. And I've tried all 5 of the ones I own without success. I tried Samsung support, which was useless. They weren't even aware of the feature.
Do you think it's possible that Samsung or T-mobile bypassed this native feature to Lollipop? I was connecting via OTG cable. I haven't tried mic to powered hub to OTG yet, because I've seen Nexus owners on Lollypop just connect USB microphones via OTG.
I'd be grateful for any advice any of you gurus have out there. I am not rooted or running anything custom. I've been fairly happy with stock. But, like I started with, I was all the while looking forward to this Lollypop update for portable recording via USB. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.
Downloading as I type...I'm sure I am wasting my time since I been rocking BeanStalk 5.0.2, but my curiosity is making me just give it a look and see how it works. It'll be nice to use the S-Pen features again, but Lollipop without all the bs that samsung and tmo put on there has been nothing short of amazing.
Why have the note 4 when you can have PURE android just like you want with the new 6 inch moto. But whatever guess I will never understand why people will buy a car. Strip it off its goods (rims/system/under the hood upgrades) just to have a classic stripped stock vehicle? I mean already having the features why give then away? I will never understand

Assuming that you're talking about the Nexus 6/Moto X Pro, there's no need to debate/discuss why I would want TouchWiz on ANY level, which is why I was close to buying a Nexus 6. Honestly though, for me, while the Nexus 6/Moto X Pro isn't a bad phone(they're both really great phones), they lost me with no way to add extra storage or remove your battery if needed. In addition, while I have been running Beanstalk for the last few weeks, I still think the S-Pen is a really great feature to have on the Note 4. There's really no need to go into details about which phone is better, because it will always come down to preference, but in regards to your comment, it's not as stripped down as you present it to be.

No attitude here, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I am certainly not hating on you for what you're saying and personally, in many(maybe most) aspects, those are flat out better phones than the Note 4. I just installed this bs lollipop so now as I type, I am flashing back to BeanStalk. The lack of a removable battery i could live with, but the expandable storage is a necessity for me, the only reason I am staying with the Note 4 since most phones that are coming out are converting to that style.

You do not need to install gapps on stock ROMs. They are included. Installing them as a zip will break them. So, factory reset (or fresh install), and don't flash gapps.

Hey. Thanks for the reply. I actually didn't install gapps over the stock ROM. Not sure what it didn't like installing over Beanstalk. I did a wipe before I installed via kies. Anyway, I resolved by doing a factory reset, like you said. Did two actually. All is well now, thanks.
AT&T's update text has something along the lines of fixing security issues and performance issues.
I'm not sure if there's anything else to it.
If someone has more info on this, that'd be great.
Already updated since I'm not on a firmware that'd support it anyways.
just updated to that version and so far i feel like the little stutters a not as bad now when scrolling. i also have the samsung package app disabler from google play store that helps save memory for non rooted phones. update was about 100mb over wifi and i needed to have an active sim card for the file to push over.
I installed the update on my S6 Edge and one thing I noticed that's missing is the battery optimization feature that Samsung built which is similar to the upcoming Doze/App Standby feature. It was released in this update on the t-mobile and international versions but I don't see it anywhere on the AT&T version. I'm not sure why they removed a feature that can greatly improve battery life but that's AT&T for you. I also don't see Wifi calling in this update. It appears to basically just be bug fixes, security updates and VoLTE improvements with HD Video and ability to send larger videos over SMS.
My phone auto-updated without my permission today. I was holding off on the 5.1.1 update, let alone the baseband update. The device management alert came up earlier in the day, but I told it to remind me later. Instead of doing that, though, it looks like it decided to do the update. WTF AT&T?!

Do you know what size of video we are supposed to be able to send? I tried on my S6 to send a video to my wife and the default messenger app still shrunk it down to 692K. Garbled garbage still at that compression.

I'm just glad it didn't fix the bugs I've had since updating to 5.1.1 and losing root. I really want to keep those as long as possible. #sarcasm #whydidntibuyinternationalversion
The battery life is definitely much better in terms of standby time. It's a night and day difference for me. Looks like we did get the battery optimization. It just doesn't show up in the settings like on other versions.
I guess all we can do, is hope that the update to OJ7 has created security hole(s) and will allow our wonderful XDA developers an opportunity to utilize it/them to gain root again. I know it sounds like a pipe dream but its no more or less what we have currently, on OI2.
I'm actually having worse battery life after the update than before, I just wiped my cache yesterday so I'll report back later but I find that even with Enhanced LTE disabled my battery is draining a lot more. I'll give it a few days though and see how it is now......my biggest issue is I find that my app usage is quite a bit higher than before and my cell standby in gsam is higher as well though it no longer appears in the lollipop battery stats.
a link to download the new OTA?
I'm on stock and tried the update 2x and both failed at 30%?
Edit: Did a factory reset and the OTA still fails.

Battery is alright on OJ7. Slightly worse than OCE but its not bad.
I did a cache wipe and that seems to have fixed the drain i was having. I'm trying out VoLTE again to see if that's any better now. Overall I'd say the battery life is similar to the previous build. I do have an odd issue today, at about 100 hrs uptime and my LTE keeps showing up while on Wifi for several minutes, then it goes away and then a few minutes later it reappears. This was before I turned back on VoLTE. I did try toggling airplane mode but that didn't resolve it. I do see there is a new build series that is OK# starting to rollout so probably some bug fixes there if we see it, who knows if we'll get that or if AT&T will have us wait for 6.0.
Can anyone please get the files for the update so that those of us that cannot OTA can update via ODIN.

Anyone else receive this OTA this morning? I didn't see, or look for, a detailed change log before proceeding with the OTA push. Phone rebooted and is optimizing apps right now. I'll provide further details once it finishes.
I know, for sure, that I checked for new software within the past week or so and there was nothing available. I've been up to date with OTA upgrades since getting this phone on day one of its release.
Anyone know anything about this upgrade?

Probably just updating security mostly since we were a few months behind. Could also be preparing our phones to take take 6.0 update since there's usually a small update before a big one. Wouldn't hold my breath on it though

Don't try to apply this update if you've applied one of the leaked insecure boot images (for getting a root prompt). There's a check of the boot image built into the updater and if you attempt installation it will wipe your phone back to stock.
D**k move Samsung, d***k move.
I was a fool to initially think that the update juuuuuust might be Marshmallow. And then I thought, "I have AT&T. They would've made the announcement before just releasing the OTA. Hell, they would've made a big deal out of it, even; as if they're doing us a favor. " And so, I took a Valium and went to sleep.
This update seems to break mms for many of the users myself included verified with AT&T that is indeed related to it Samsung is on process of updating. Anyway if you happen to get it just boot your phone to safe mode and then use mms there and restart back to normal, it works after . And hopefully marshmallow will be soon

I'm still getting MMS texts, what was broken?
So far I've noticed my battery life is better than it was before, on the OJ7 update i had a very odd drain as well as issues with my bluetooth and wifi that were only fixed with a reboot......so far knock on wood they seem to be resolved but it should take a few more days to fully confirm. I did also try Enhanced LTE again and just as before I had a nice drain on my battery so they still don't have that working great yet (my area has weak LTE and switches between LTE and 4G on a normal basis).

I've always been of the mind that people are more likely to post to complain than otherwise. You rarely see, "hey, this is great!" .. I think it is often assumed that posting those kinds of comments add nothing to the discussion, so people don't do it...

Agreed. I see what you did there.
If it turns out to be true and even if they they just push it to those who oped in for soak test and whatnot and not a full out release in the next few weeks i am happy with Lenovo and this phone. I love what Lenovo did with the phone. I said updates will make or break it and i was scared about that when they said they could not commit to the security patches. But were getting those patches and have a word on the update so far so good. Hope they keep it up. This is the best phone out all around.

I agree 100% the funny part is I decided I needed a non samsung device as soon as I saw that lil wayne commercial that had him dumping champagne on the phone. I told coworkers that wanted the Note 7 prior to the release to get this phone instead because Samsung spent far too much for lil wayne for proper research and development, they all made fun of me...until the note started exploding.

Off topic but the issue is simple with the Note 7. I checked this my self. But its not cheap for them and the "Fixed" ones were not fixed and there was no way for them to fix it.
Simple version. The IC samsung chosen to handle the monitoring of the voltage for the battery was the cheapest they could find. That being said they can be way off in terms of calibration. The note 7 i had charged my battery to 4.9v. Phone would read 4.405v but a fluke on the batt reads 4.921v. And that is dangerous. So for all i know they could be charging to 5+ volts and no wounder they are bursting into flames. Issue has nothing to do with the battery and changing it wont do a thing. Its an issue with the ic on the board. And the IC has been used in other things that handle li-ion and li-po related charging and also caused problems on them.
Back on topic.
So we get 7.0 before the end of the year. Im guessing November. So far so good on the updates. But im wondering if they are going 7.0 or just going to jump to 7.1. Chances are no 7.1 that fast but so far the updates have been good. And the moto mod updates have been amazing. I would like to see 7.0 by Nov. 17th. But we prob wont see the roll out start until the end of Nov.
Does anyone know if Nougat will return the ability to save to SD or move apps to external sd?

It will not. Motorola has removed the Apps 2 SD feature. It was replaced by Adoptable Storage.

Just finished installing the Nougat update on my phone. After updating I tested it out in a Daydream VR and it works!
I wish someone would post the update files
Uuuurgh I wish there was a way to force it. I've been obsessively checking for software updates all day :|

Yes yes yes yes yes. Got rid of my Gear VR and S7 Edge for a PSVR and have been waiting for a good headset for my Z Droid. So it works with the remote and what not?

Yup, works exactly like it does on the Pixel. It runs the Daydream app, supports the VR keyboard, etc.

Not that I'm aware of. I've done plenty of soak tests for previous Moto devices and I got invites for soak tests for the camera and projector (which I don't have either), but I never got one for the phone. The update just popped up for me last night.
So far the only Nougat issues I'm having is the fact that my Ambient Moto Display no longer works. Slightly annoying, but it could be worse.

Great that means it's a general release!
Do a hard reset, it's always recommended to do a hard reset after a major update for optimal performance and user experience.
Strike my last statement. I just got it working. I need up just clearing the data for the Moto app and set it up again. Moto Display seems to work perfectly fine now.
