I'm a tad bit apprehensive with rooting my z3+ with the issue of losing the drm keys as such and being a nervous wreck of messing it all up. But seeing the dismal battery life and somehow warm occasional back of the phone is really convincing me to do it. I previously used a g2 before which i fiddled with a lot before.

Personally? I was hesitant like you are for months! But I got tired of the poor battery and very bad sot I had to charge my phone upto 3 times sometimes always carrying a charger and a power bank... Finally I rooted and I'm happy I did! With heavy gaming I get at least 2 hours and a half SoT now... If I know I'm going to stay out of i dont game and I get at least 3 hours ++ SoT... And i've only been rooted for like 3 days... I'm using nagasaki rom with zach's kernel and xposed with some battery saving tweaks... But rooting this device isn't easy so if you're familiar with unlocking bootloader and such things my advice is to ahead it's totally worth losing warranty plus you can now restore your drm keys of you wanna do something like sell the phone or send it in for repair. If you decide to root I'll give some tips on how to save battery cause it's all over the place on XDA many confusions. Good luck

@angvil It sounds really reassuring to know that it is worth it for your experience and happy with it. I'll carefully read and tread on the guide linked by @Bagne, thank you as well for the link ^_^. Oh yeah I was wondering what was the deal with something about a series of scripts called skynet it was posted in the forums not a long while ago. Is it compatible with z3+ and is it viable to consider?

They moved to Google and you need to be invited or accepted to try them out, I requested to join their community and might just might give it a go. But I'm happy with what I'm using now and the difference I've experienced between stock and rooted.
Once you decide to root tell me I'll provide some links and mods that I'm using grabbed a couple of scripts as well from XDA.

I am using latest zach's kernal + Nagasaki rom tweaked the Big cores are underclocked to 1.6 Ghz and little cores to 1.5 Ghz. Also I use Greenify + Amplify. Also using tweaks from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/themes-apps/mod-z5-endurance-tweaks-v1-tweaks-t3321841
Install Heimdall governor, at least that's what I'm using.

Only the 1.5 can be rooted right now. There is a thread in the developers forum that they are using to post their results. I'm sure that when they root it they'll post in there or start a whole new thread.

If you were lucky enough for them to have given you a hero with 1.5 on it still, you will be able to root it now, so check your software version. Rooting gives you several advantages:
1) You don't have to wait for Sprint to get off it's a$$ to fix a bug.
2) Almost every ROM has been stripped of Sprint's bloatware.
3) Apps 2 SD is a big +. You can have a lot more apps because you are no longer limited by the internal memory of the phone.
4) Wireless tether.
5) Easy backup/restore.
The biggest advantage that is a combination of multiple things above is how fast your phone will be. Now, to be fair I will warn you of some disadvantages:
1) For the most part, you are on your own. People in the community will try to help all they can, but for the most part you need to be able to troubleshoot.
2) Technically, it does void your warranty and is not condoned by Sprint. That being said, if you have insurance you can always just pay $100 and get a new phone no matter what.
3) The reason phone manufacturers do not give you root to begin with is that you can do a lot of damage and really screw your phone up. For almost all things there is a simple fix of just restoring to a backup, except for one case: if you flash a bad radio.

EDIT- The guy above me beat me to it. Sorry for the double info.
I have looked over several pages and have not come across anything with good solid information or facts. I have a ATT S5 G870A (S5 Active). It has Android 5.0 on it. I have several questions actually.
1. Can you root this device on 5.0? I cant find anything on an active version. If so, can you point me to some good simplified layman terms instructions?
2. If not, how do I downgrade it.
After getting to a state where it is possible to root it. What do i need to complete that task? I am looking at getting Twisted Lolipop ROM on this device (IF IT IS POSSIBLE). That is the goal anyway. For some reason that ROM sticks out to me after reading about all of them. galaxys5root.com/sm-g900f-galaxy-s5-custom-roms/twi5ted-lollipop-rom-for-galaxy-s5/[/url]
I have watched the video on that site and it doesn't give out hardly any information. I am not even 100% sure it will work on an active on ATT. I dont want to trust some kid on youtube trying to tell me how to flash my phone without knowing if it is correct or not.
I am terribly sorry in advance if it has been asked before, but there are several discussions here, and lots have been updated somewhere in the hundreds of pages of information contained within them.
Thank you in advance,
Josh.
If u have bootloader 0c5 u can down grade then root the active.
If u have bootloader 0f2, 0f3 no u can not. There's no root for those yet.

I assume it's the last 3 of the loader #'s. ? Mine says 0f3 . That stinks. Phone is a year old and still can't root it. I'll get a new phone before a root comes out...lol. Thanks for any information, or if there is another way I'd surely appreciate it. Got a super nice phone and its slower than christmas. Too much junk and fluffy stuff installed from factory I guess.

Thank you. Is there a good way to back up the entire phone that is pretty easy in case I disable something that shouldn't be? I enabled the system processes in developing menu and thy wrestling are a lot of things running and lots of red at the top (assuming that is for the processors). And I don't have a whole phone full of games installed. Facebook, messenger, snap chat, a weather app. Then a few other random apps like a steak n shake app. No games at all.
So i rooted my new nexus 6 and installed chroma rom. every thing was fine till i noticed a small part of the screen flicker. it was like a black line coming and going as soon as i took it off charging it was fine. this was after i installed the rom there was nothing like this on the stock one. also when i open the camera app i can hear a small click/ crackle sound. this happened in the stock rom too but with the snapchat app. its irritating and i cant find a fix anywhere. and lastly whats with the network issue? it suddenly comes and goes. i checked it and it showe 0dbm and 99 asu?is this common? tried to find a fix but all i got was lots of unanswered threads. as being a student who need to use this phone for a long time can anyone tell me if all this is fixable ? or do i need to get a replacement as im still in my 30 day return period. thanks in advance and sorry if all this issues are already in a post and have fixes just post me the link as i could find it
being a student who needs the use of the phone for long periods of time.. what are you foing moddifying your device. no custom rom will be bug free. even though whtyever bugs dont bother me, they seem to bug you. why dont you just stay stock with root if those issues are bugging you.

I have a 710 and am willing to test whatever. These are hard to brick and I dont mind trying different things for a dev that might be close.
I just feel like it is a shame for such a great device to die in development without any community progress.
Please reach out to me and I will do what I can.

It looks like it's the end of the line for the T710! Nothing from Samsung or XDA (or even elsewhere!). Even my S3, Nexus 7 (12&13) moved (& still are) beyond a couple of updates. What has the Tab S2 done wrong for such lack of Devs?
I am willing to help anyway I can too. I have a 710 and I love it. Really bummed at the lack of development.
I even though of teaching myself how to make a custom ROM. I need to just stop procrastinating and hop to it lol.

I rooted and installed OptimalRom. It ran great for a while and then I started getting battery drain. I figured out it was coming from an Android Media Server process. I read it has something to do with having an SD card inserted, which I do (128GB). I'm still using it but I installed a program that constantly kills the process so I get no battery drain. It runs fine but I would like to try something else, but there isn't anything lol. And they're having problems with CM13 and CM14.
Hello guys!
I wanted to make a battery calibration on my Galaxy S21 5G and i made a battery test on the road.
The phone is 5 months old.
So this is the measurement from 100% battery to 3%.
The Screentime is 11 hours and 56 min. (always on wifi) & 40 min. of music streaming on 4g (9% battery).
I think the Screentime is fantastic!
I used some tweaks from here:
[DISCONTINUED] Samsung Galaxy One UI - Optimization Guide
THIS IS A SUGGESTED CONFIGURATION FOR SAMSUNG DEVICES OUT OF SUPPORT/CLOSED I - RECOMMENDED SETTINGS To Start With - Factory Reset before starting optimisations - Factory Reset after every Major update (One UI/Android) - Remove SIM before first...
forum.xda-developers.com
and the Screen was constantly on 48Hz with Galaxy Max app.
The Performance was completely fine.
Now if this is with 48Hz, imagine what insane battery life can you get on a Galaxy Ultra with 10Hz.
Thanks for the tag, glad i helped
Basically you transformed your S21 into an S7 or S8, you might as well bought a nokia 3310 to deactivate all the features of a phone, or changed brands....

It doesn't make sense anyway, so changing the brand of phone your approach is weird in my eyes, having an S21 to make it as interesting as an older generation smartphone, you might as well buy older generations. You will gain 2x more battery again. A nokia 3310 would last 1 week in autonomy, that would be more suited to your needs. Sorry

Damn, you turned off all these features and crippled the phone but left a super obvious optimization untouched.
Using WiFi calling, you can enable airplane mode, effectively turning off your whole cellular radio.
While I'm at home, my phone is always on airplane mode, so it's not looking for towers, switching networks, etc. Depending on your provider and location, it can noticeably help with battery drain, mostly in standby.
Also...wtf Norton 360? It looks like it used a ton of battery and it's such a grandma move to have Norton on your cellphone. It's just weird to remove all the nice features of the phone, for which you paid, al in the pursuit of better battery life, but leave obvious things like this in... just my $0.02
