Hi
I am new to Android world. So please handle with care
I used to use an iPhone. Recently (bout 3 weeks ago) I bought a galaxy note and am loving it.
I was going through a lot about Android system and found out 'rooting a phone'.
so I rooted the note and installed Rocket rom v22, GoLauncher Ex and few apps like Setcpu, Adfree, Bank, Xchange etc. I don't have games or many apps on my phone.
My phone turns itself off randomly every now and then. during phone conversation it rebooted itself once so far. and when my phone is stand-by, I found my phone is turned off.
I am not sure why it's happening. Is there any settings i shouldn't set?? or ???
Could anyone please tell me how to fix this issue?
If the phone is faulty, I need to make my phone as the same as when I first got which I am not sure how to :-( yet
The first thing to do is go completely stock. Flash the lastest stock rom and see if that fixes the problem.
When using ICS ROMs there's a known bug called Sleep of Death (SOD) that is similar to what you're experiencing. The phone simply won't turn on the screen and you have to press the power button for several seconds to turn it on again.
Almost all GNote users experience this issue so don't worry about it. Going back to stock will not solve the problem.
Hi
Thanks for the reply.
Before the rom v22, I had v19. my phone still did turn itself off several times. after flash the room v22, it didn't happen as many as v19 so I am not sure that the ICS causes the issue.
anyway, I will try the one you suggested and see how I go.
Thank you

I am more worried about the alarm. if the phone turns itself off while i am in sleep, i won't be able to hear the alarm going off.
well if that happens again, i might have to get a alarm clock.
i was thinking of setcpu app might cause the issue... not sure though.
Thanks for your help
I experience the same issue when i was running stock. I've tried several stock versions but the problem still exists.

I have definitely never ever experience SOD when the phone is stock and lock.
The only time i did experience SOD is when i change to modded kernel.
I'm running stock with cf root and have never ever experienced this, so not all notes are affected. That would really suck!

Never had Sleep of Death on stock rom.
I am on stock ICS Rom n it has happenedwith me twice.
My GNote goes dead randomly and only starts up after pulling out battery.
Weird!
Install an ICS from Clean
Start from a Stock ICS rom using PC Odin, then follow my Post as follow :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26772618&postcount=12
Try another rom other than that you had, or a higher versionof it.
The MIDTEAM v1.4.2 is Good and Stable.
Good Luck
I had this problem most of ICS ROMs on my Galaxy Note. SO I guess it's an ICS related bug and it is very uncomfortable to have to reset it to unlock it .
I too have tried several Stock ROMs but it still gets into the Sleep of Death at least once a day.
I guess that it should help to have a Kernel that changes the Deep Sleep settings...
Of my 2 GNotes, one of them had this problem. Happens when you put the note on the table with small drop or whatsoever.
The problem disappeared when inserted 3-fold 80g paper between battery and the edge of battery compartment. The battery tolerance is not so tight so when small drop (like putting on the windowsill) happens, the phone shut down.
The problem completely disappeared after inserting paper.
Of course, more professional would be go to Samsung repairs and show it and ask for replacement - either battery or phone internal casing. You can reproduce the problem by turning the screen on and dropping phone 10cm into hard surface.
But I did not bother.
I won't say that yours has exactly the same problem. But check the tolerances of battery 1st. Sometimes solutions are too obvious to see 'em.
I upgraded from stock to CM9 3 days ago and my Note has turned off several times a day since then. Never before upgrade, so I don't think it has to do with battery being loose in its compartment - not in my case.
I am loving ICS, but I will have to downgrade to gingerbread to get rid of this irritating bug.
this is happening to my galaxy nexus!!! yeah it turns off at random like sleep of death and small drops can trigger it. if i knew this could happen i would have never rooted
lol root itself has nothing to do with it.
if small drops cause it, and paper adding in compartment fixes it. its the gap between battery and whatever should fixate it.
if it occurs during deep sleep, dig into logs what you can find there. Also check roms/kernels feedback if others have it with that version. Many ways to illiminate possibilities.
I miss some good analyzes in this is issue from those experiencing stuff. Android I guess is not user friendly that way.

Galaxy Note Sleep of Death on 4.1.2 JB
I'm still trying to figure this out... I had hoped that with Samsung Stock upgrade to 4.1.2 it would be fixed but its not... anybody still experiencing this problem?
Things that I have tried
Move all apps from Internal SD Card (USB) and format
Factory Reset
Paper wedge between battery
Opened and re-connected all connectors to Motherboard
Install CPUSpy (deep sleep is OK)
I'm at wits end now, and this problem is very apparent. I havn't wanted to flash to a custom rom, because I've seen reported that it still happens with whatever ROM whether stock or custom
Any more ideas on how to make the Sleep of Death go away?

Turning off problem too
I don't know if it is exactly the same problem, but my GNote keeps turning off every time, but not seem to be randomly. Looks like ti shut down every time a high performance is required. I tested several roms, ICS and JB, custom and stock, but the problem still goes on.
Please, any ideas?

Hello eveyone.
I'm having one of the strangest problems I've encountered with a phone before and I just can't seem to track down the problem. Please read this thread with an open mind as from what I can tell this is a unique issue that sounds like normal issues.
The main problem is that the phone keeps rebooting. From the get go this sounds like a normal issue with either the battery or power switch but here is the weird part...
It only happens when the phone is fully charged!
IBackground
I have had the phone since release and I have only ever used the stock rom that came with the phone. I don't really use phones much n general except for using it for calls texts and BBC news. I didn't even have a SD Card in it until after the problem started. Everything was running great, I never had any battery problems at all, and then a couple of weeks ago my phone contract expired with Orange and I decided that I would get a SIM only plan with EE.
While waiting for the SIM card to arrive in the post I charged my phone up one day and noticed that I had to power on the device. The phone seemed to power on fine, I could use all features of the phone, but when I turned the screen off for more then 5 or 6 seconds the phone would restart. There would give no indication that it had turned off or that it had powered off in anyway. It would simply just be blank, I'd press the power switch, and it would vibrate once and begin its start up procedure as if it had been turned off completely.
Here is where it gets weird, the phone will keep cycling on its own like this until the battery drains itself through constant reboots until about 85% juice, at which point it begins to operate functionally.
I heard that some people say they had problems with the power switch. I figured that if it was the power switch it then the problem would be consistant and would continue giving me problems when the battery was below 85%. I think I can rule out the power switch as faulty. Naturally I came to the conclusion it must be software, perhaps an APP installed which was incompatible. I tried all sorts of things, regardless I came to the conclusion it needed to be factory reset. Factory reset didn't do anything, still does it. My next thought was Firmware, it must be the firmware that was corrupt. I went through tutorials and rooted my phone, installed recovery software and ended up installing Cyanogenmod 11 (Which looks really beautiful btw, wish I had done that sooner) and buying an SD Card too do so. Still the problem persists! I read that some people had problems with swelling batteries, I replaced the battery completely just incase. £10 wasted, still does it.
At this point I'm starting to get confused. I started thinking perhaps it was the cable providing too much charge to the device, over charging somehow. Tried a different cable and a different power source. Still the poblem persists. I made sure there was no dirt in any of the connectors incase that was causing something. No joy.
So to summerize:
1. Factory Reset
2. Replaced Battery
3. Changed power leads
4. Cleaned device
5. Flashed to completely new firmware
I've completely run out of ideas on what it could be. Why would the phone operate absolutely fine under 85% power? Its just weird! I'd appreciate any help some one could provide me. I've not seen any one else with this problem on the internet. Please let me know what you guys think.
Thanks
Craig.

Sorry to hear about this man!
I am completely stumped on this one! You've basically done all the basic solutions but to no avail. I had a problem similar to this where my device would reboot randomly, whenever it wanted to and in my case, the solution was to buy a new battery and that actually worked. I've had the battery for almost 2/3 months now and it's still going strong.
Back to your problem, I honestly don't know of a solution. I really wish I could be of help but as I said, you've already tried the basic solutions.
Again, sorry to not be of much help!

I think I have the same problem as you did. After suddenly dropping and rebooting, my battery level jumps back up when the phone starts, and again, and again. The phone is functioning normally only when plugged in. I also presume that it is a battery problem, but the fact that the battery level rises back after dropping, makes me wonder.
EDIT: Problem solved with buying a new battery.
Sorry to jump in, just curious, did you solved this? If you do, hope to hear your solution, might help others in future
SGs3n SlimKat9.0(Android-Andi)
So i've been experiencing this issue for months now. I've had the issue since i've gotten the phone but its the past few months that its really gotten bad. So before anyone jumps the gun, i've done quite a bit of research on this and cannot find anything worthwhile, more on that soon.
So as usual, i'll pickup my phone and press the power button or the home button to turn on the screen, but at completely random times the screen will not come on at all. Sometimes the capacitive buttons will light up (maybe 15-20% of the time), but not always.
In my searches I found the following solutions to this problem:
Get a new sim card
Dont use an SD card
Get a new battery
Check the leads on the battery and phone for cleanliness
Factory reset
Remove 1 app at a time and test until it stops happening
Dont freeze any apps
Restore stock firmware
Dont use SetCPU
Turn off animations
Get rid of the lock screen
Remove custom message from lock screen
Clear cache through Recovery
Dont restore data with Titanium Backup when restoring apps
Turn off WiFi and/or Bluetooth and/or GPS
Dont use GreenPower or Greenify
Avoid stock launcher
I have tried all of the above except for removing 1 app at a time (and those that dont apply). I'm deep into that one and only have a few apps left to try. This is something that happens at least once a day, but typically 3-5 times in a day. I used to think i could make it happen by pressing the power button to turn on the screen and immediately hit it again to turn it off. It would sometimes work but that doesnt trigger it anymore.
My phone used to be rooted, but being on AT&T there was no "normal" way to flash a good recovery like CWM or TWRP and install roms, you have to use some other thing which i dont use. So i've always had stock recovery, im fully updated to the newest stock rom that is out, update came OTA which was after i removed root and used odin to flash an older stock rom back. My wife's Note 3 also has the same issue and it has never been rooted, we have gone through all of the above and still it continues to happen.
Also on a side note, my phone was swapped out because of an issue it had 3 months after i purchased the phone. I was able to get a brand new one, not refurbished. The issue had occured once or twice before the swap and an incredibly frustrating amount of times since then.
Reading through most of the other threads, everyone seems to have to remove their battery and re-insert it to get back into their phone. The ones that dont have to do that have found that removing their SD Card, getting a new one, sending the phone in, or one of the other options have worked. However for me, nothing has worked.
Does anyone have any other ideas? Is this common on the Note 3 (I've had it since release)? 70% of the time i can hold the power button for a few seconds to try and bring up the power menu and it works, but not always.. I usually just have to wait up to a minute or two (never actually counted, i use my phone for that stuff...which.. isnt..working...)
I've had wake lock lag on a few android phones. Even iPhones.
I would highly recommend rooting it on att and flash a mod that reduces it on the note 3. I talked about it here.

Unfortunately I cannot root my phone. I have to have my company email on my phone, and for Android devices they use Air Watch. I tried for weeks to get it working while rooted, and even used Root Cloak or something like that (with Wanam Xposed) to hide root from specific apps. Air Watch was specifically tested to work with that app but it still for some reason didn't work (new version of Air Watch perhaps with no update to Root Cloak? Just my guess). I had to remove root, factory reset and re-flash stock from Odin (that was a dual purpose flash) to remove all traces of Root so I could use Air Watch for my company email/calendar/contacts/etc again, even after unrooting and using all the cleanup tools, triangle away, and everything, it still detected my phone as rooted...
However, I don't think that's really a viable solution to the problem, that's more of a band aid. Looking at that thread and looking around, it seems to work well but I still haven't found anyone with my same issue where they used it and it worked. I would like to narrow this down to what the issue is exactly, the root cause. I think its a problem with KitKat, or at least all of 4.4.x (not sure about 4.4.4 yet).
Hey all. Just grabbed a new 32 gig Edge on Thursday. Everything was working fine up until this morning. As I was scrolling through an article, the Split Screen kept coming up and going away. I thought I hit something so I paid it no mind. As time passed, it started going crazy on its own. I wasn't pressing anything, just unlocking the phone and putting it down on the table.
It was almost like there was a ghost (or remote operator) screwing with me.
I did a factory reset, thinking maybe one of the apps I installed was causing some kind of issue. Still having the same problem.
Anyone else dealing with this on their new phone?
Hi,
I've got the exact same problem with my 32GB Edge. While my kids were playing some Lego Junior game on it (yeah I know, that was the the last time ), it started going haywire. It's like someone's pressing the button for recent apps all the time and sometimes very rapidly.
After a factory reset, logging on with my own Google account resulted in the same behaviour. So I tried another factory reset and tried my wife's Google account while restoring as little as possible. Now things seemed a little better so I tried the same with my Google account. That went fairly well (it now pressed Recent Apps once only when I pressed the Back button myself) but after a little time of fast charging, it went all crazy again.
So maybe it's got something to do with (over)heating? I'll try to leave it off now and see what will happen when it's cooled down.
Did you (or Samsung) happen to solve the problem?

sorry! didn't realize there was a response here. i've yet to find a fix. it'll happen every now and again. i try to reboot it, but sometimes i can't because of it going crazy. once rebooted, it behaves for a little while.
but in terms of the back button giving me recent apps, that happens way too often.
I've had the same problem with the S6 edge 64G. After Samsung advised on a factory reset, to no avail, I spoke with my network provider who suggested a replacement sim. This worked for a few days but then back to the exact same problem as described above. Working along the lines of the sim replacement I noticed this problem occurs more frequently in areas of poorer coverage. I tried the phone in Airplane mode when I noticed the problem was occuring and it stopped straight away. Haven't spoken to my network provider since but now I'm not sure if it's a sim issue or the over heating problem.
Its hardly an effective fix having a phone that you can't make calls on so I might have to settle for the' return to samsung for repair' option.
Hope this helps a little in finding a solution
Does anyone have a fix for this. My phone started doing this whilst on charge, and I have a gorilla case, so the overheating thing made sense until I let it cool down and removed the case and it still happens. The reboot (holding all four buttons down) does not work.
Multi-screen glitch
I am having the same issue on my Galaxy s6. I installed the Multi-Window Toggle app from a developer on this site and now instead of switching in between recent apps and multi-screen, it switches between recent apps and the home screen. It doesn't seem to be related to overheating with my phone. It can be just sitting on the counter and start doing it all on its own. Very disappointed.
I'm having the same problem with my s7 edge 32gb. Haven't found a fix. If ywguys upgrade to an s7 you may find the same issue unfortunately. Its probably a software problem. Hopefully a system upgrade can fix it soon.
Hi, I have a Verizon Galaxy s6 and got the software update late last week. Since then, my split screen has gone crazy. It goes through these cycles of splitting the screen and vibrating. It is unusable when in the cycle. HELP!!!
Hi, I too started having the same issue with Galaxy S6 on ATT. Any fix for this?
I got caught in a monsoon the other day (really heavy rain) I was only in it for maybe a min and a half till I could ride my bike to cover, but unfortunately, I was soaked and so was my phone. I wiped the water off, but I noticed that some may have gone in my headphone jack because everytime I pressed my back button the multi window button would light up and then start flickering and turn off. So I turned my phone off for awhile to let it dry out and now my button is not working at all. it's been 2 days of not working and all the sudden tonight it starts opening up my recently used apps and telling me it's going into split screen mode and glitching like this 20 times or so, every couple of minutes. My S6 has gone downhill the past couple months. 3 weeks ago it stopped charging completely the battery would drain after 2 hours of regular, to minimal use and when I went to go plug it in, it would notice that I would plug a cord into it, but wouldn't charge. It did that on and off for a week. now it charges, but tells me it's over heating every couple hours. Now it's doing this glitch with the button. Kris upfront up either split screen, or recently used apps overt and over again. The button still doesn't work, won't light up, or do anything when I press it. It'll only lights up when the back button is pressed. I just thought my button was broken cause of water damage, but maybe it's a software issue?
I replaced my screen protector. Problem resolved!
Replacing or removing screen protector didn't solved my problem. I have edge 6 32gb and it's clearly not an software issue because I have flashed my phone with different firmware with odin and still the problem occurs again ....
I'm thinking this might be due to screen protector I recently installed. I had the thin one before but since adding the thicker one this has started happening. So much that the phone is almost unusable. If this doesn't work, the phone might be going out the window!
Samsung Galaxy S6 Split Screen & Apps Gone Crazy
I also have the split screen issue with my Samsung Galaxy S6 (not an Edge). I've done everything recommended up to and including a factory reset to no avail. I also removed the screen saver (which was relatively new) and that did nothing.
I also have an issue with the recent apps toggle key, which in the end, may be the real issue. The key only works randomly and lights up even less than that.
Anyone?? Any other ideas? I, personally, have reported this to the BBB and requested an inquiry since this has been a known, major issue since long before I purchased the phone in September 2015. We are in the middle of the inquiry now. Will advise as to the outcome.
This works!!!!
I have a fix but im new it wont ket me post till after ten post. Want help email me..bummer just trying to help.

I had the same problem. I thought it was because glass was cracked. Tried replacing the glass, and actually ended up getting an entire new AMOLED/digitizer assembly, installed it, and it has the same problem. So annoying! I can't even send texts because it splits the screen and/or opens recent apps like every 0.5 seconds. The only thing that helps is having one finger continually pressing down on the screen as the app is open, which will let me scroll with my other finger and the app wont go in to split screen. I think it is a software/internal hardware problem. Not Cool, since this is an expensive phone.

I took the screen protector off of my wife's s6. It was okay for a few minutes, then it started again. the same thing everyone else is experiencing. 'Can't afford a new device right now. So she has to downgrade to a s5
This fixed mine
Hi guys my sister had the same problem and I tried the toggle app and that didn't work for me but I found this vidio on YouTube on how to disable the multi window button and it worked for her! I'm not allowed to send a link but if you type into YouTube 'disable back and multitask button' it's the first one to come up. hope this works!
My samsung s6 edge has been switching between recently used apps, going into switch screen mode and both power and home buttons haven't been working consistently. If I do a force restart the buttons only work for 10 mins or so. I also did a factory reset and am currently using a replacement phone because the reset did nothing. Some people seem to think this is due to an SD card corruption, I'm not so sure. My screen is also shattered but it had been shatter 6 months prior to this problem occurring so it is not related. If I take the phone in they'd have to repair the screen as well and that will cost too much for me.
Hi, I have had this issue twice and both times I think it was moisture/humidty related. The first time it resolved itself after presumably drying out any condensation. Today I had the same issue and fixed it by blowing a warm hair dryer into the bottom of the phone for a few minutes.
I've had rooted HTC devices (Hero, EVO 3D) and then rooted Samsung Galaxy S3, Note 8.0 tablet and Note 4 which was my last device before this one. So this is my first unrooted device basically since I rooted my first Android device and I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. I looked at my Note8 last night to find it in SAFE MODE. This phone has not been activated because I've been using the free WiFi hotspot on my rooted Note 4 to provide internet to my PS4 because the WiFi in the nursing home I'm temporarily in cuts out a lot and I got the Note8 on 9/15 so I'm assuming I'm going to be in trouble with Sprint when I call about now being in default to see if I can fix that before they charge me every penny I'll have for the next 2 years and cut ties with me forever. I've only ever had Sprint. If anyone can give me any tips on what to say when I call about that it would be appreciated. Anyone know how big of a deal it is to be in default like this for a few months? They never told me I was even in default. I figured it out. They haven't been charging me for the lease, not once.
Anyway, this unactivated Note8 has not been updated at all either. I haven't installed anything in the last couple of days prior to safe mode starting, that I recall. Samsung stock apps are constantly updating though. Can anyone point out the stupid thing that I did or didn't do that probably caused this? And can anyone help me? Please? I'm good with this stuff. Usually. lol
Edit: I forgot to say that in an attempt to fix it, I rebooted the phone more than once. I used the thing that shows up in the notifications to get it out of safe mode and I also just held the power button down and tapped reboot when it popped up. No change. I powered it off then left it off for 2 minutes and powered back on with no change. I have had a major issue with the volume rocker since I got the phone. Like it really never moved. I had to get an app to control the volumes and use Tasker to control the profiles in the app. Once in a while, I could get it to work but then it would act as if I was holding it in which I wasn't. Maybe 2 days before it went into safe mode, I pressed down hard on the volume up button and it snapped. Ever since it would make a sound at random times like the volume button was being pressed even though the phone was just sitting and the screen was usually off at the time. After it went into safe mode, I messed with it enough that the sound stopped and I did get the volume rocker to move in each direction though now that it seems to be in a neutral position I don't want to mess with it at all. I tried to reboot to see if it would come out of safe mode after that but there was no change.

Okay, so let me get this straight. You got the phone through the Sprint Lease Program, but you never activated the phone? Did you get the insurance for the phone?
Easy fix, if you are within the 14 days of owning it, take it back and get a new one. If you have insurance, file a claim.
Other then that you could see if it boots to download mode and try to flash the firmware for it. Everything will be gone but it should fix the issue.
