Ok... I've tried my best to comb through the forum, but no one seems to have this issue.
Whenever someone calls me, and after I pick the call up, the dialer would disappear into a black screen upon my touching the screen. And when I lift it, it would appear again, but disappear when I press my finger. This has happened several times over the last 2 months. Sometimes it will happen when I make a call as well.
I have noticed that it happens with or without a screen protector.
Is there a solution to this? Thanks.
The proximity sensor is at The Top right of the screen next to the front camera. It turns the screen off when it detects the phone is at The side of your face, so you don't press buttons during your call.
If your holding your phone upright and your finger covers the proximity sensor during a call it will do the same thing. Just make sure you keep your fingers away from the sensor during a call.
I'm pretty sure the sensor is disabled if the phone is laying horizontal, but not 100% on this.
The sensor also does other cool things, for example, if you use your phone as an alarm, no need to deal with the snooze button, just put the phone face down and it will snooze.

I thought that was the case, but I have been using it (on speaker) away from my face and hands.
Perhaps I should pay more attention to this function before my next post.
My back cover in Xperia T crackles. I would like to remove the rear panel and fit. Unfortunately I did not find on youtube and iFixit information how to do it. Can anyone help?
Is there a way to control the proximity sensor to turn off the screen? So when I close the cover on my clip cover case the screen turn off.

Thanks, works perfectly!
So does anyone else have this issue... when I have smart display on and put my phone in the cup holder of my car, the screen never turns off.... it thinks I'm holding the phone...
As it uses the motion sensors, this should be normal. Standing upright and moving makes it appear to be in active use.
Would it be possible to put a nfc tag in a flipcover to control the display of the phone? So using trigger/tasker to turn off the display when the cover closes. Or is the distance from nfc tag to the phone too little to be noticed if the cover is closed/opened? I can imagine that if it works that you need some blocker (like a real thin magnet) at one side of the tag to prevent the nfc tag to turn the display off when you completely fold the cover to the back of the phone.
