[POLL] OnePlus 3's manufacturing quality - OnePlus 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello,
I haven't found yet any thread about this so decided to make one.
Through this thread i'm aiming people who own an OP3.
There are 5 possibles answers :
- No problem, perfect as I wish it was
- No problem, though I thought it would be better
- Software problem, doing some factory reset fixed it
- Software problem that is still here and thinking it's hardware
- Hardware problem so I want to return it asap
By doing this, I hope to see how bad is the manufacturing, or how good it is, because I wonder if this whole 'stop sell' won't affect quality (you know, they have to be fast, some tests were neglected or somehow someway trying to fast up production to handle the orders)
Hope you understand,
Cheers.
NB : Sorry if there are english misspells, not at all native language (third one)

Big thanks to everone who answered ! Wish you a good day

-No problem, perfect as i wish it was
Edit: Its perfect for the price ive paid 360e new... Bought UK after brexit when it was 309£ and the pounds rate to euro it was low

No problem, perfect here also. Bought on release day. UK

Will order mine tomorrow, thank you for the feedback ! Cheers guys !

Up about the poll for nowadays after the OTA Update

Perfect. Got on release day as well. Now rooted and running custom ROM and kernel. Never going back!

One thing I've noticed is that OP3's vibration is to loud and sometimes a little irritating, anyone has the same problem?

Perfect, ish. After the first week I discovered a slight spec of lint in my rear camera lens. And on grey/dark screens the right side of my screen is slightly lighter shaded than the left.

The build quality is pretty decent, but I will say that a few of us had to deal with screen uniformity issues at first and had to get replacements. This did not turn out to be a permanent issue, but it did put a small damper on my experience.

zero mfg issues here, I do wish they had used a larger battery and better camera, but that's not about quality that's about design.

No problems from Spain

have to send my OP3 for warranty repair after 2 months even though it was kept in a big case and never dropped. hardware fault

HTC One Camera and overheating questions

Hey guys I'm about to buy an HTC One .. I'm a student and it took me a lot of time and hard work to get the money ... I need an honest advice from you guys plz
1. What's this problem with the Camera having a purple/pink tint ?? Is it a wide range problem ? A lot of users have it ? Or just some faulty devices ?
2. I heard that it overheats a lot .. is that true ? And if yes then when exactly does that happen ?? Games ? Or just excessive use ?
Thanks in advance to everybody who will answer .. much appreciated !!

I don't have any problems with my device.the camera is great for taking pics with it's wide angle lens. (You can get so much into a single pic) my phone had become hot sometimes when I was on 4.2 but since upgrading to sense 4.3 (leaked) I had not had any problems with heat whatsoever

Hi,
1) I (we) don't really know, software or hardware issue... , I have not this issue personally (HTC black), maybe take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507 for more info...
Even after updated to Android 4.2.2, custom kernel, etc... I never had this pink tint...
2) No overheating here... It's clear that play an heavy game while charging and yes your One will overheated..., ambient temperature plays its role, overclocking too...
Browsing in 3/4g in sun or while charging is the same thing (even without sun/charging LOL, same thing for all phone with a beast of CPU), quadcore at 1.72 Ghz, simple... It inevitably heats but ther is a different between heat and overheat.
There is a difference between the "overheating" you feel and the real temperature of both CPU/battery checked by an app. Without any real temperature report the overheating is subjective... With stock or custom kernel I never had temperature issues.
In any case there are some overheating protection (thermal throttling) and with a custom kernel that allows some thermal settings, you can increase the thermal throttling so less heat... and even undercloked/undervolted and that can help a little...
Maybe I'm lucky and I speak, maybe, only for me, but I have no issues as above for my One (black HTC One from June)...
EDIT: ok it's not about the HTC One, but generally about overheating for a quadcore (S4). It's about the LG nexus 4 known for overheating:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2372733
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2214629
Read all...
After all that it depends of your usage, the One is an awesome device (I came from a Galaxy SIII and I've always my Nexus 4), but depending of your use maybe there is better. I think about pictures... In lowh light the One is far better than a Galaxy SIV, but in "normal" use... Maybe not. It's like the screen, the "formfactor", the "overlay" (Sense vs Touchwiz), etc...
I think I've been around, at least for me

I live in a very hot state in the U.S. and I browse while in the sun and listen to music as it does get hot no more than I suspect it would, in face less than expected. My sgs3 would get to 125° on the regular with the same situations, the HTC One got to 122° so far. No camera issues for me either. I say go for it, play with it for a while heavily in the conditions you're used to and make your final decision before having your 14 day (or whatever it may be for you) grace period gone.

I have no issue with the camera so can't comment on that.
The phone frequently feels warm in your hand and that's because of the aluminium body; this acts as the heatsink for the internals so the heat is transferred to the body which is actually a benefit you don't get on a plastic body. Although it can feel warm/hot in the hand a check of the temperatures will show it's well within safety limits. It can overheat doing things like gaming whilst charging or running a nav program whilst charging but in severe cases overheat protection will kick in to prevent damage.
I have a camera with purple tint issue and it is not because of heat.
Until now the issue is not resolved by HTC. Some users got a perfect camera when they bought it, but a few months later their camera became defective without any reason.
So, if camera is a main point for you, you better rethink again. Also don't forget to check after sales service in your country. In my country, it is terrible. Been waiting camara's part for almost 3 months, still no news.
You can also check purple tint thread in this forum for more info.
I have this phone for a couple of months now and I am satisfied with it but there are some things to consider.
1. The issue with the camera is difficult in a way that it is subjective, and it takes a little bit of trying to replicate. So there might be guys saying they don't have it because they simply haven't noticed it. However looking at the poll in the widely know post about that issue, clearly tells me it is a general thing, even taking into account guys that deny it. Our best bet now is that it is due to sensor overheating.
When I first saw that thread myself, I have tried what the guys were saying. Was covering the lens, was shooting dark photos and I came to conclusion that mine camera is fine, but it either grow on me or the sensor got damaged over time as now I can clearly see the issue.
2. I am using GPE rom on it and while it is very nice and all, now when I think about it - the phone is as good as the software on it. If I was living in the US and could buy Nexus 4 for that cheap I would definitely choose Nexus 4, and then with saved money update to another Google device. Here in Europe the difference in price between Nexus 4 and Htc One is not that big. That being said, if you are going to use GPE rom on it and value your money, Nexus 4 is a better option in my opinion.
However if you want better specs and want a device that will last you a little bit longer then Htc One is perfectly fine.
3. If you are not going to use GPE rom but the stock Sense one then I gotta tell you that it is very solid. It is so much better than TouchWiz that this is crazy.
4. The quality control at HTC seems to be low. If you want a perfect device with no gaps with no recessed buttons, with the display that is perfectly aligned with the rest of the body, prepare yourself that this might not happen on the first try.

Hi there,
It does "overheat" but still stays alive.
Also when u make over 500 pictures in a very short time (I did 5x 100 quick burst shot pictures) my phone heats up very much and I get that big purple dot. Goes away quick after cooling my phone down.
I also have not experienced any problems with my camera. I guess the ones that have a camera that's okay don't feel the need to comment on that thread, making it look like almost everyone has it.
And yes, it does get warm at times. It shouldn't get any hotter than, say, a Galaxy S4 (same processor, but slightly higher clocked), but it is possible that it's easier to feel because of the aluminium design. If you wouldn't feel the warmth, it'd mean all the warmth stays inside the device, which in turn is bad for the processor.

Xperia Z1 touch screen problem

My touchscreen is really bad right now it has problems sensing touch
Two video examples which are exactly like my problem

2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0sqwwUoEPc
I thinks it's a software problem since most Xperia Z1 users are having this problem?
Thanks for all your help!
Edit: Apparently many users are having this problem... Just found another vid : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wD_PS7EoQI8
In my opinion, its software problem related ..
I mean the sensor maybe need more tweaks and stuffs ..
Anyway, its just my opinion

Alright, thanks for your opinion... I'll try to go back to older firmwares to test wether it is hardware or software related
If this is a hardware problem, Sony will have some BIGGGGGGG trouble
EDIT : Okay, I have just went back to 524 firmware to test and I can confirm that the problem still persists.
As I wrote in the other thread my phone seems fine, tried 5 times. Someone said that it happened when you got in contact with the aluminium.
So I took the phone out of its case and tried, still fine.
More ajour the issue here

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1/xperia-z1-touchscreen-problems/td-p/410611
I've noticed a loss of touch across the right edge of the screen, most noticable when playing candy crush and i want to switch on the far right, but in normal use it's absolutely fine, points to software in this case.
If you want to know if there are problems then download a multi touch app and move your finger across every inch of the screen, if you lose contact you'll know theres a problem and you'll have some tangible evidence when you take it back to the shop.
Im so pissed at this crappy thouch screen.. if i type to fast and not hard enough it wont register it.. aspesially annoying with the spacebar.. its like 50/50 chance its gonna work each time.. is this hardware or software?? Such an high en product and it really sucks.. gonna go back to my s3 if this isnt fixable..

I'm starting to rather dislike Sony now . I can't believe so many problems can be found on a $5998 HKD, HIGH END smartphone . When I first saw an Xperia Z1, I immediately fell in love with it. I decided to save up all my money to get one, for a few months I only used 1/4 of my lunch money for lunch. And then you know what? I end up with a f*cked up touchscreen, bootloader unlocking problems and a yellow, ugly screen that don't want to see anymore. More then 6 of my friends are gonna buy an Xperia Z1 (cuz they saw mine) But I'm gonna make them change their minds and buy something else.
I thinking they assembling the product with different quality hardware for differen continent. I got mine all original and working fine. I just saying.
We are some people on the sonymobile forum with the issue.
I have a brand new Z1 on the Way from the store now.

I'm planning that also. However, I'm still giving my z1 a chance until the kitkat upgrade next yr.. If it really sucked again then it's goodbye sony and choose Nexus from now on.
I have the N5 and trust me, it has it's fair share of problems. The RMA thread is over 40 pages long http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515575&page=40
The speaker is an absolute joke (through headphones it's not bad), the camera once again is subpar and battery life is half of what I get with the Z1. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot to like about the N5, just don't get pissed off at Sony and go Nexus and think all your problems will be solved.

You're right, However if switching to another device will solve our main gripe then it would not be so bad. I really dont want to give up on my z1 however it really sucks to have this kind of problem. Everything is working fine, no overheat, wifi issue, black screen, yellow tint. Just this annoying touch problem.

I agree, on a device this expensive it should defect free. I have the yellow screen issue but not the touch problem. The yellow screen is definitely annoying because no screen adjuster I have tried solves the problem. And when you compare it side by side with a N5 or HTC One, you really see just how bad the yellow hue makes the screen look. I guess I can live with it now and hope for a solution but it's a shame there has to be threads like these full of the typical QC problems that Android has become infamous for.

Display brightness and overall look

Hi guys, Anandtech review for the oneplus 3 mentioned a poor display quality and a low brightness peak. I know most of them were mostly benchmarks and testing so I want to know how the display looks in person. How is the outdoor visibility and sharpness?
PS. Here is the review http://www.anandtech.com/show/10411/the-oneplus-3-review/4
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
I still have my OnePlus One and I always thought of it being a very bright phone, one of the brightest I've had, but my OP3 is brighter than it... I never heard anyone complain about the OnePlus One's brightness. Also I'm not sure about the screen being physically of poor quality. It looks fine to me, some people say that it needs to be better calibrated, but that's an easy software fix.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
The taste of the screens is a bit like design. Some people like oversaturated SAMOLEDs others like more natural colors. OnePlus said that the screen is last gen AMOLED of samsung. therefore ore it is easy to fix the screen with a good kernel which lets you tweak some settings other anandtech got a broken unit with a bad screen. All other revieuwers said that the screen is good, not outstanding but good. Only Anandtech did not like it.
My unit arrive tuesday, maybe I will post something.

It's funny the influence they have, reviews up-to this point have been positive about the display and after Anandtech post theirs, they all start pointing out the issues with the display.
This is precisely why reviews are generally BS.

You wont be disappointed
Hi,
I have the OP3 for about 1 week now... Got it at the pop-up in Paris
I don't care about colour calibration, as long as it's not TOO obvious. And IT IS NOT on the OP3. Of course, if you compare it to another display directly, you might prefer that other one. And this is only a software problem, so a kernel with colour settings will allow you to change that !
As for the brightness, I was ready to send it back to One+. In sunlight conditions, if you got a dark screen, it was barely legible. But yesterday, One+ released new display drivers to the developer's community. I know a dev that is registered with One+. So he could make a build of it's ROM with those new drivers... It has to be confirmed in real life, but the increase of brightness seems to be really impressive ! I really thought that this would be a HARDWARE problem. But it seems I was worng, and that a SOFTWARE setting can take care of that
So I'd recommend to stay tuned
Regards.

howerer I think with a bit calibration the screen becomes very good. Of course the res isnt the highest but I think its enough for daily usage.
Guyz my op3 is 3 months old and I have a wired issue like box like thing is appearing over dark areas whenever a bright light interferes.... Pls help me solve this

Is the Xiamoi Mi Mix 256gb / 6 GB RAM still worth it in 2018?

Hello,
I'm actually really in love with this phone... it has a huge 6.4" screen, it's nearly bezel-less, it looks great, the display looks awesome, it has 6 GB of ram.
If I think about it, actually there's nothing wrong with it.
But if I think longer about it, I have my concerns.
I'm from the EU, to be more specific - germany. And I know this phone doesn't support band 20 iirc, but that's not a huge problem for me.
I'm just not sure how it performs in the EU in other aspects.
For example, I've seen a review about the phone in the US in which the guy said that it has problems with google services like Gmail and the Google voice assistant not working properly.
On the other side, the video was from december 2016 - how much has changed until now in terms of software and compatibility to EU countries?
I know the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is already available and the 2S will be soon, but somehow I feel like those are "downgrades" and not really upgrades.
Of course, the hardware is better in Mi Mix 2 and 2S but the Design, Display etc. looks more like a downgrade.
What do you think?
Honestly one of the best phones I have ever had.
I have gone through 4 ?. I also had note 8 and iPhone X and I can promise you the phone is amazing. The one down side is the camera. It's not that bad but it's not up on par with what's out there today. But the screen size and battery is the best.
I have had them since day one that was launched and broke 2. Gave one to wife and kept 4th for me. Fixed one of the broken ones and have it as a backup.

Hello,
I'm actually really in love with this phone... it has a huge 6.4" screen, it's nearly bezel-less, it looks great, the display looks awesome, it has 6 GB of ram.

Everything works as it should, ok Google from a screen off doesn't work as it doesn't have the hardware for that, for everything else ok Google works like any other phone. Nearly 2 years later they are still worth over 50% of what I paid.

But you broke them in a physical way right? Like, you dropped them?
I'm a bit afraid of buying the mi mix and having a faulty phone like dead pixels on the screen or something like this.

If you drop it, it's really easy to fix, 50 Euros for a new screen from AliExpress and they really are good quality, bought a s8+ but I am going to sell it, prefer the mix 18 months later.

Made by same manufacturers, just buy 1, especially if you are a developer:laugh:
If you use a good case you don't need to worry about it getting damaged. I broke 2 cuz I didn't have a case on them. but they were repairable. At the time I broke them, there were no parts, but now you can find all the parts and they are relatively cheap.
Alright, thanks!
And if I buy the chinese version of this phone, is it the same as the global version only with a chinese rom?
And can I flash the official global rom without any problems from here http://en.miui.com/download-317.html#471 ?
Yes. I have both and no difference between them.

What's the reason for you, that you prefer the Mi Mix over the S8+?
In terms of hardware, the S8+ should be the superior phone afaik - so I assume this is not the reason

Can't really answer that, even my wife says the mix is easier to use, might just be the wider screen.
But in the end, it's still a reliable phone?
It's just that head thing which makes me struggling. I would actually buy a 1 year 3 months old phone for ~450€. And there's already a Mi Mix 2... and soon a Mi Mix 2S
Currently I have a LG G2.
In terms of camera, is the Mi Mix better than my G2 from 2013 or ~same or even better? I heard that the camera is not really good, but that makes me thinking - maybe it's just not on pair with high end phones like S8+ / Note 8 so people know there's something better.
What I want to say is, maybe the Mi Mix's camera isn't that bad, just worse than S8 and co but still superior to older phones like mine.

If camera is your thing look elsewhere, it's improved with gcam but not the best.
So what you are telling me is, the camera has improved quality when I download the google camera app and take pictures with that?
I mean, I'm not a big camera guy. Of course, the one from S8 etc. makes great photos but that's not why I'm buying a smartphone.
If the cam is at least on the same level as the one in my G2 or a bit better, that's totally fine for me.
Also btw, do you know a good Etui for the Mi Mix + silicon bumper?
I bought a silicon bumper to protect it a bit when I'm using it (of course it doesn't make the phone drop-proofed, obviously), but I'm also not a huge fan of screen-protectors on phones.
That's why I need an etui where I can slide the phone it and put it in my pockets, so the screen is safe.
I found a few for the xiaomi mi mix, but the dimensions of them suggested that it would fit perfectly without bumper, but with one which adds ~1.1mm it could get really tight.
So I would need something with more space

The transparent cases work well, took it off for 1 day got drunk and broke the screen, they def protect the screen and stop it slipping out of hands. I got a scratch resistant one and it still looks like new.
I am a bit of a serial phone buyer and tend to change devices fairly often, but I have had the Mi Mix as my main device since last summer and can't see another device on the market that would be better for my needs.
The Good
- Official lineage support
- Huge screen with a 17:9 aspect ratio (better than 18:9 IMHO)
- Minimal bezels
- NFC for Android Pay (needs Magisk in Lineage)
- Great battery life
- Beautiful design
The Bad
- Camera quality (can be mitigated by installing the Google Pixel camera)
- No Band 20 (not an issue with my network)
I'm looking forward to the Mi Max 3 which should be announced in the late spring / early summer, but there isn't too much on the horizon which would make me want to swap out my Mi Mix 1.
I received my Mi Mix 1 today and I really like it.
But there's one negative aspect I noticed and I wanted to know if other users noticed it as well.
The screen is a bit blurry in motion imo compared to my G2.
For example on the homescreen when I slide the screen from left to right, the font of apps are getting somewhat blurry, so does the icon.
It's a bit like ghosting, like when the screen's response time is not that great.
Can anyone confirm this?
It's not extremely blurry and I probably can live with it, don't think it would be worth the hassle with gearbest especially if I don't know if it's just how the screen is.
Another thing, and that's pretty much personal preference, the screen is a bit yellowish on natural with read mode disabled.
Warm and natural are too yellowish for my taste, cold is way too bluish.
I couldn't find any option to adjust RGB myself.
Is there a way to do this?

Live my mi mix. Bought this case for it: http://s.aliexpress.com/y2miEjqM?fromSns=Clipboard
Sent from my Xiaomi Mi Mix using XDA Labs
I also was a guy that bought a new phone every 8 to 9 months. Until the mi mix that is. Honestly i now can't see myself buying another phone for another year or two. I stopped browsing the new phone news/specs loooong ago.
Would love a similar phone with sdcard and more bands. That is all.

I've had enough!

After 2 replacements (all green screen's) I've decided enough is enough, this latest one has no green screen issue (BOE) display but the FP reader and face unlock is seriously bad compared to the others I've had. I'm running the 146 update as well and have done a wipe of the device, along with reprogramming my fingers but no joy.
My network are doing a non like for like replacement so I'm getting the Pixel 3XL which comes next week. I will miss this amazing battery and great camera but I've had enough!
Luckily I'm able to retain my tariff as well.
I hope others that stick with this great device have more patience than me.

Sad to hear it my friend, but fully get your position, it's a fantastic device let down by lack or poor QC.
They should have went to Samsung for their displays lol however mine is ok so far, so I'm definitely keeping. It's just sad that this has happened and voided your use.
I have also picked up another device to compliment the Mate 20 Pro....
Here it is.....

Yes it sure is let down by QC, which is a shame as it has the potential to be the best device this year!
Wow fair play, so rocking 2 of the best devices out I see! [emoji12]

Yeah I was always interested in the Find X, and daaaaaaamn it's stunning, but terribly let down by colorOS. Oppo have disabled fastboot, so can't unlock the bootloader, but I'm hopefull that might change.
Other than that I'm extremely happy with it.
Best of luck with your Pixel 3 XL.....:good:

Is a great phone full of features, i also not so happy with the video recording at 4K, wide angle only max at 24fps, jerking video.

I never really took any 4k videos but heard it wasn't great.

I tried 4K HDR @60fps over YouTube vanced with performance mode enabled, playback struggles @4K, I then switch to 2K [email protected] and video is smooth as butter. 4K [email protected] also no issues.
K980 is not optimised for [email protected] Huawei can add [email protected] for now.
Rooted M20P is a different story.
I think there is some flaw in k980 since it's a new technology and may be it cannot be overclocked, or may be Mali g76 is to be blamed for this.
The rooting section of the forum seems to be rotting, guess Huawei is next victim of Apple protectionism syndrome.
