Hey guys,
I've searched and tried seemingly everything, but can't find a solution to this problem. A few months ago, my cousin dropped her Z3C on the floor; the screen cracked and stopped working. I got and installed a replacement screen, but it doesn't work. When I first turned it on (after charging the phone for several hours), the display was off, but I could touch the screen and I would get haptic feedback.
When I do a soft reset (Vol Up + Power), it vibrates 3 times, but the screen still doesn't display anything. I've pressed the little yellow reset button next to the SD slot, which also causes it to vibrate, but the screen still doesn't work. When I connect it to a PC, it is identified, though no folders are shown in the device. After I used the repair function of the Sony Xperia Companion, I now no longer receive haptic feedback when touching the screen. I also tried using flashtool, but to no avail.
Can anyone point me in a direction with how I should proceed?
Thanks!
It may be a motherboard issue now,try taking the phone apart and reconnecting the screen, but don't close it fully just connect it and see if anything happens,if it still doesn't work it could be a motherboard issue or you got a DOA screen
Make jumper on fuze like I did on 2nd picture and should be fine. Pictures here.

Unfortunately, soldering for me isn't an option.
I've looked into the price of a motherboard for the Z3C and it's pricier than I expected. I might just cut my losses and try to sell it as is.
Thanks for all of the suggestions, guys!

I have lost my display on my Xperia phone.
The back light comes on -- but that is it -- NOTHING else.
Has anyone else experienced this and more importantly - fixed it ???
if so, what did you do
What have you tried to fix it? I'd say something like this goes in order;
1. Soft Reset (since you don't have a display, use the reset button next to the battery)
2. Hard Reset (hold both hard buttons while pushing the reset button with the stylus)
3. Call someone, either your carrier or SE.
I have the same issue.
About 2 weeks ago issue started.
Waking from sleep or turning on, backlight lights up, but screen is blank.
This is starting to happen more frequently. Sometimes it will work normally, but more and more it is just staying blank.
Also during normal use, screen will become "garbled." Random bits of the screen move around to other parts.
Even during these problems the phone is functioning normally, can even push the buttons on the touch screen even though they are not being displayed.
I have an x1i, hard-spl. Was previously flashed with TouchX 10.1. When issue started happening, I flashed with a newer itje WM6.5 ROM. Same problem.
Issue of screen being blank also happens when booting to the tri-colour screen.
Any ideas?
I had the same issue screen just refused to display. I sent it back to Sony E for repair. They repaired and returned within 7 days. On the repair bill they stated it was a loose connection.
Interesting, hopefully that's it.
Out of curiousity, what was the repair worth?
Just wondering how much i'm up for if that is the case and I send it back.

Yeah.. I know this topic is pretty old, but I exactly have the same problem..
I have the Xperia X1 or about 1 year and a half now, everything was working fine until 2 days ago:
1. If someone calls me or I call them, they don't hear me, but I DO hear them
2. Screen responds, but remains blank (backlight only turns on)
3. Screen shows once in a while, but it pixelates.
I'm thinking of a hardware problem here, anyone knows more about this?
- Tried rebooting > no effect
- Tried soft reset > no effect
In most of all above problems it would be becouse of damaged lcd flex cable. It's not cost too much but you will have to disassemble phone and change it. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/for-Sony-Eric...ries_MobilePhoneBatteries?hash=item563a472301
Hi i have had an x1 since august but within a month its been dropped and then it was unable to show the screen, i opened my device to try and fix my problem but messed with nothing whatsoever, when i put everything back together it wouldnt even turn on anymore! all it did was charge and when it was fully charged there was a red light. can anyone help me? please im desperate to fix my phone. My first paycheck was spent on this and i loved it despite the numerous flaws! also i havent charged it in over 2 - 3 months. Also when i opened it the tape that connect the rear and the front is kind of messed up, would that effect anything?
The tape that connects the front and the rear is the cable for the screen, so if it's messed up, you might need to get a replacement.
here is a pic, the red part where its circled is where i think the problem is, it looks ripped off, i did have a hard time opening and putting it back together the first time also.
Sounds like (Or rather, looks like) you're screwed, as far as I can tell, if it's really ripped. Otherwise attempt to clean the contact points with some cleaning alcohol and Q-Tips - something might have made it's way in when you disassembled the unit and blocked the electrical signals.
ill try it, but if that doesnt work, would i be able to replace the flex ribbon? would acteone work?
got this checked out by my friend, he told me its the flex ribbon cable, thanks for the help btw. Does anyone know the cheapest place to get a flex ribbon cable from?
Still would like confirmation if its my flex ribbon cable before i spend 40 bucks on a new one. thanks!
Hi, I am new to this forum. Sorry for posting here but I think I have similar or same problem with my xperia. Few days ago I drooped my xperia and then I could not turn it ON. I opened unit, the flex cable was detached.
After attaching the flex cable. I could turn the unit and it booted normal but no response on touching screen I even tried to align it but it did not respond. I turned off the unit. After trying turning it back ON only back light of the screen turned on (no sony logo, no xperia logo no winmo).
I tried to turn it on few times but same result. Even tried to soft reset and hard reset it but no difference only back light. Is it because of flex cable or because some thing else? I can`t even go in to 3 color screen. Please help. Sorry for my bad eng. Thanks.
Here's what is going on...
My Galaxy S I9000 (Bell Canada) was water damaged, after being dried for many days it turned on, but the battery almost immediately drained. I left the phone and forgot about it. Bought a new cheap phone without a SIM.
More recently I got a new battery for it and it turned on and was working great, staying charged and everything. When I went to the service provider to get a new SIM for it, we powered down the phone, pulled the battery and SIM card and put the new SIM in followed by the battery. Afterwards the phone would not power on, but the two face buttons on either side of the 'Home' button lit up and would react to touch. I tried removing the battery and SIM a few times and would get the same result.
After bringing my phone home and leaving it with the battery out for a few days, I thought I would try it again. It powered up again as if nothing was wrong. To test it again, I pulled the battery and SIM, replaced them, and my black screen/won't turn on problem returned.
Every so often it will power on and be useable. It is recognized by Kies, I've flashed it to firmware 2.3.4.
I'm looking for any helpful suggestions for what might solve my problem. I'm wondering if it's a hardware problem and short of isolating the part of the phone that is faulty and replacing it, the phone is toast.
Thanks for your time, and I apologize for the length of my post.
My friend has dropped the SGS into a pool before. Problem was fix after buying a new battery.
Either: Damaged screen + Contact. Or the reaction with water and the battery. hydrogen gas prevents screen from connecting to main-board.
It still turns on occasionally, and when it powers up, it's as if nothing is wrong. Screen works, displays everything fine, colour is crisp, screen reacts to touch. The big problem is it won't turn on all the time. Would what you said still explain this?

The only thing I know (assuming the screen or motherboard is 100% functioning) is hydrogen gas being present. You might know TV remote with old battery casually respond to presses. After cleaning contacts it should work again.
I disassembled the phone and cleaned all the contacts on the main board with rubbing alcohol, I did not do anything to the screen though. Should I try taking it apart again and breaking it down further? (ie. separate the screen?)

No, I am starting to think it's a hardware fault if that didn't work
HI guys,
I want to post on behalf of a friend who has a problem with his Xperia Z1. He originally bought it used with a broken display, he then changed it with success, the phone was working fine until it fell. At this point the display was still working but not the touchscreen, so he ordered a new assembly from the net (not genuine, like the first one which worked tho).
Upon receiving his new assembly, he immediately started the repair. However, when he turned on the phone, he only felt the vibration and nothing appeared on screen. No any light, he got a totally black display with no sign of life, while the phone was fully charged, and was recognized by Windows (he could even access his files on the memory).
He obviously thought that the seller tricked him and that the assembly was defective but when he tried with the old one (which had the display working but not the touchscreen), the same result showed up, no light, like the assembly wasn't plugged to the motherboard at all.
So far that's what I told him, check the connections to the motherboard, and make sure the flex ribbon is not damaged. He even bought a new ribbon and installed it, with no success.
He read that the problem can come from the display ribbon touching the chassis, thus making a short-circuit, but I doubt it. How if the display connector on the motherboard is broken? Is it fixable? Like buying a brand new connector and soldering it.
Thanks in advance for helping us
Try a hard reboot by Golding vol + and power until phone vibrates. Is the backlight working?

Thanks for reading this long problem
Sure, he tried the hard reboot thing, he even successfully flashed a stock ROM but nothing changed. I can only think of this as a hardware problem, but what part is defective?
The motherboard connector?
The ribbons on the chassis? But he changed to new ones already!
The LCD assembly? Same, the one he tried is a new one...
Still no one to solve the mystery?
I'd like to add that the phone turns off itself after approximately 30 minutes in idle state. That is, the explorer doesn't show the phone anymore and it has to be powered on again.
I know the best solution would be to buy a new motherboard or just forget about this broken phone, but it's a challenge to fix something that is apparently hopeless
phone seems to be working, it turns on, vibrates and the touch is working
but., somehow the screen is black!! not turning on at all.. tried everything (combinations of buttons, disassembled the phone and reassembled it)..
any suggestions guys?

Shot in the dark here. If you're getting vibrations and response to touch, my best guess would be that the screen itself is damaged. May have to get a new panel for the device. I wouldn't THINK it would be software related, but for the sake of ruling things out, what software is the device running? Custom ROM? Stock build?
EDIT: It could be a simple thing like a loose or disconnected ribbon cable inside.
stock,
it actually happened after a reset (and shipping by USPS)

This is the phone where you hit factory reset, threw it in a box and shipped it while it was resetting?
Probably the screen was damaged in shipping.
