I leave my phone on during the night for the alarm. Sometimes when I wake up and the alarm goes off I turn off the alarm and when I go to unlock the screen it shows the message saying that the phone has been restarted and I need to enter my password (I have the fingerprint unlock so it happens every time you restart the phone). Today I woke up at 6:04am (before the alarm went off) and I checked my phone to see the time before going back to sleep and the message wasn't there. I went back to sleep, my alarm went off at 6:55am and I turned it off. When I go to unlock my phone the message pops up. I don't know if it's an alarm thing or if the phone randomly restarts while I sleep. I attached a picture of the battery usage and I'm not sure what the huge gap in the middle means or if it helps. Thanks.

So that huge gap means it's rebooting? If it is, then that's a long time it's off then. I've recently flashed stock EPG2 and factory reset. I'll try doing the factory reset again tomorrow when I have more time.
I have these issues when SYESTEM UI automatically restarts. I'm just too lazy to backup and factory reset the phone, so I've just been living with the issue.

Twice now ill be using my phone and it will kinda stop responding and then my trackball will start pulsing, it then reboots gets to the lockscreen and reboots again. It will do this until I pull the battery. Any ideas why it does this? Is my SD card going bad maybe?
-------------------------------------
Oh I forgot to mention I am running cm 5.0.7.1
---------------------------------
I don't know if that's the cause, but it did the exact same thing to me today too. Also running 5.0.7.1.
I was reading a book using Aldiko. I wasn't touching anything at the time (I was in the middle of a page) and the phone just reset.
Except that when it reset, it didn't fully reboot.
It didn't give that little vibrate pulse and show the colored X and the unlocked icon, it just started into the boot animation.
It got to the lock screen, but even before I could unlock it, it started over.
After I pulled the battery, it was fine.
Last few days i have been having these same boots, not going as far as the X+padlock screen, and continuous reboots until i do a battery pull, i am running froyo+cyanogens kernel.
I find i always have the headphones in when this happens.

No headphones here. It has only happened to me while reading an ebook with Aldiko, but I'm guessing that's just because it's a long period of phone activity.
It's probably less likely to do it when it's sitting locked and idle.
it happened to me also for the first time yesterday, just as you describe...phone reboots, gets to lock screen, and reboots again.
i had pandora on pause for a while...and thought that might have been the cause...since pulling the battery and rebooting i have not had the issue repeat itself...yet.
I have experienced three similar strange reboots since upgrading to Froyo. All three occurred while the phone was charging and i was using an app. Once the reboot loop begins the green charge light on the phone never goes away until i pull the battery.
So. My Moto G is completely un modded, not rooted, and is exactly stock how I bought it and haven't changed any of the software. My Moto G has been getting slower in the past couple of months with everything going slower than usual. I bought my phone in February 2014.
Yesterday while I was at school, in my pocket I had my phone. I felt random vibrations in timed cycles. So I pulled out my phone and had a lol at it randomly rebooted but came back to the home screen. As I started to use it just to send a couple of messages it rebooted again but this time after the reboot animations they just went on and on, what I've found out to be called a boot loop.
So I went home did some research and figured I would have to factory reset. I couldn't get into the phone therefore I had to do it externally. I got the the menu thing ( I think it's called fast boot menu ) and I wanted to select newer bootup or power up just to see if that would possibly stop the boot loop. I selected it and got into my phone, into setting and factory erased my phone.
Well I factory erased my phone and re installed the apps I on,y essentially use or NEED such a social media, within this time there was no unusual activity. Shortly after my phone randomly rebooted ( after downloading the apps ) and turned off, and then went in to the former boot loop! I was furious!
Well here I am, left it overnight for charge and it's been looping for 10 hours. I tried going back into the fast boot menu, the first time I got into it this morning I selected recovery in hope to reset it, however the screen said no command with the android and the exclamation point. The second time I got into the menu I tried 'Factory' and it just rebooted and back into the cycle.
At one point I did get into my phone however shortly after that guess what happened, it turned off and rebooted. And back into the vicious cycle.
I am led to believe it's the power button that's causing the problem ( correct me if I am wrong ) as when I did manage to get I to the phone I did try pressing the power button to investigate this and on some occasions in did lock the phone but in several others it displayed the power off popup and then turned off shortly after indicating that I was holding the button down which I definitely wasn't doing.
So where would I go from this? Do I call Motorola, try flashing a stock ROM ( it's completely stock ATM , I don't know how to do this so if I have to do this can you please explain briefly ) or try going back into the fast boot and go into recovery and try and get rid of no command ( if I can, and how ? ).
Please any help would be very appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
PS you don't think it's the back cover that's doing it because it took that off last night '

Since your phone is completely stock, don't start tempering with it now. Just return the phone. But you have to act quick, warranty is about to expire.

Hi, I had a look online and came across a forum post saying it was a jammed or sticky power button and the poster stated to hit the power button side of the phone on a desk a couple times and it will go back to normal. I'm glad to say it did work after I hit it a couple times, as fast as ever now due to the reset!
I was wondering if I call Motorola would they give me a free new moto g out of it, as I see it as an opportunity to do so, or will they just prompt me to send it so they can repair it under warranty? Is it worth calling ?
Good evening.
I just can't take it anymore. After updating to Lollipop 1 month ago, at least once a day my phone freezes completely and I can only reboot it.
Most of the time, it happens when I unlock the phone to answer a whatsapp message. When the chat appears, the phone stop responding. It also happen in random cases, but usually just after I have unlocked the phone.
If I press the lock button, the screen goes black and never turn on. If I longpress the button, the screen to reboot or shut down the phone shows up, but not the background or any other app.
After upgrading from Kitkat, I did a factory reset from the menu. With KitKat this Z3C was the best phone I ever had, but now I hate it.
Is there a way to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Nobody? Maybe have I to install again Lollipop?

I have exactly the same issue. It happened 3 times in 2 weeks, not so often but still annoying. I bought the phone two weeks ago and it was already with lollipop...

I've discovered that going in full screen mode with power toggles widget I can enter the settings and do whatever I want, but as soon as I exit (even if I just pull down the notification drawer only) it goes back with black screen and only the back key, which is not responding.
Is a Lollipop bug or should I send back the phone to the seller? Factory reset could help, even if it was new?

Like you i didnt like lollipop, if you want to revert back to Kitkat like i have done read HERE
Hope this helps you out.
As post topic says, my SGS5 Active, has a black screen issue.
The first time it happened, I had received a call and when I got off the phone, the screen would not turn back on.
Download mode was accessible but not recovery mode. And as I've come to believe, if you can get into either one, the phone is still saveable.
So I got into download mode and used Odin to flash the Stock ROM I found on sammobile for my G870A.
I had already used ota to go to 5.1, this took me back to 4.4.2. Which is fine by me.
So afer flashing, phone worked for sometime then for the remainder of this day, it would happen randomly.
It seems if the phone goes to sleep, or I press the block button, or I get a call n the screen goes off during the call, all these things prompt the problem to occur, or a restart with a bootloop or a restart with phone coming on but screen inactive.
Some random times it just happened without warning.
I tried fixes but they all seemed to only work temporarily (removing SD card, still happened while in safe mode, the removal of battery, holding power button for a min, then leave it for 5 min did, etc.) all temporary.
The only sorta permanent fix I've found is keep screen on permanently, but I don't intend to keep that up. Don't want a screen burn.
You know, let me skip to my question.
If I root my phone and put on a custom rom, is it possible this will fix it?
Or for that G900 Nuance back to stock rom which seems popular, that will brick my model correct?
I thank you all in advance for any response, helpful or otherwise, and for taking time to read and respond.
I sometimes miss the simpler days with my Infuse and S2.

Anything is worth a shot, but this sounds like a possible hardware issue. Is the phone still under warranty? If so I'd return it.
Wait, he said he took OTA to 5.1. Is this even out and if so would the 5.1 bootloader be his possible problem?
Hey guys thanks for responding, here's an update.
Issue stIl occurs whenever the phone goes to sleep or randomly when I press the lock button, but I've applied a temporary fix that last for at least a day or more.
I installed No Lock, which supposedly disables my Lock button, so now when I press the button accidentally, it doesn't actually lock, just turns off the screen.
I also installed Stay Alive, it keeps my screen on.
@Sgt.CM
Well I had Odin back to stock 4.4.2 and phone upgraded to 4.4.4 on its own, tho I kept denying it. It's currently asking to upgrade again.
Not on warranty, bought off swappa, need to contact owner if this issue was known.
I'll probably end up rooting it soon. It's really annoying.
I bought a used Droid Turbo 64 GB and for the second time I am stuck in a situation where the screen went blank and now the device won't boot. I get to the silver/blue "Droid" splash screen where it sits for a moment or so, then the screen goes blank. After the first time I wiped and started over, it worked well for three days. Now it happened again. I tried wiping cache, did not help. I was thinking I could reflash Lollipop and would not lose data this time but can't seem to find the appropriate file to flash. Can someone point me to it, or let me know if that's not the right direction to go? As soon as I get a replacement I am sending this back but would like to try and get it up and running for the next few days.

Just trying to get it to be usable until I can get a replacement phone.
While I was researching and posting here, I shut the phone off and put it on a charger. It said it was 61%. It got to 98%, I took a chance and powered it on and it got past the splash screen and went through an optimization of 63 apps. Finished and booted. Lasted about 10 mins then went black again and I am stuck.
I'm not sure if this is what your talking about but If you press the power button when it is in sleep mode and you see the clock and notifications but the background is black. If you pull up it should unlock the phone but everything goes black. That happens to me every so often. I reset my whole phone once thinking it was broken. All you have to do is pull down rather then up and the background appears and all is well again.

Thanks for the info but this phone is locking up. We turned off that mode. The screen does black after 1 min (in display settings). In our case, there is no way to get it to come back on. And during reboot, it goes black and never finishes booting.
You're best bet is to flash the stock firmware. http://rootjunkysdl.com/?device=Droid Turbo&folder=Firmware
i have the same issue, did firmware flash with fastboot and the fix with the verizon software with no results
