DBrand Carbon Fibre Skin Review for the OnePlus 3! - OnePlus 3 Accessories

Hello everyone. This is my review of the Carbon Fibre Skin for the OnePlus 3 from DBrand. The OnePlus 3 as you all know, is a very slippery phone and hence, I opted for a skin. I went with the Red/Black Carbon Fibre Combo from dbrand. They have a lot of options available on their website and I have been using this skin on my OP3 from the past 1 and a half month. So how is it? Well, here's my review! Please watch it and if you have any questions about the skin, let me know in this thread. Thanks

I have a dbrand set coming tomorrow. Hyperblack titanium and purple. Can't wait to see how it looks. I'm one of those "case haters" ... but I almost feel the need to use one with the OP3. But it just feels so nice without one ... slippery as heck, but nice. I'll try to post some pics when I'm done!

Sure will. I ordered the hyper black for the Axon 7 before I cancelled my pre order, so I know how kick ass it looks. I'm mostly wondering what the purple caps are going to look like with it. ?

Can you guys post some scans of that skins? Preferably with some measurements so we can create custom skins

Let me understand something, if I use a dbrand skin will this protect my phone from drops?...or is just for cosmetic look?.

The skins will offer SOME protection. Scuffs and scrapes basically. They won't give you much in the way of drop protection like a case will. They also add a bit of texture, which can improve the grip in your hand.
I just got mine at the office, so tonight will be installation night. Attached a couple of pics of my hyperblack titanium and purple combo. Can't wait to see this on the phone! It's also nice that they include the full wrap and open ended options - so you can do different colours top and bottom, and choose whether or not you want the edges wrapped on the top and bottom. I like options - that's why I like the OnePlus!

Good review.
For those that want grip only...
I suggest using a bestskinever body cover in glossy.
It literally feel like using a TPU clear case but thin like screen cover.

Well, here it is! The body is the hyperblack titanium, the upper/lower is their purple. I think the corners worked out alright, but they are the tricky part of the whole thing. I love the look of it! I was a bit worried that the purple would be a little more intense, but it's on the darker side, and subtle, as I was hoping. I'm loving it!

What went wrong on the bottom corner? The skin looks a little loose over there.

got before rma replacement carbon fibre sticker, on the edges feels really bad.

Ha! Didn't really see it like that when I posted the pic. That corner actually has a light reflection from the shiny silver bevel around the touchpad on my laptop there.
I did end up with one of the top corners I wasn't totally happy with by the next morning, so I peeled it back, re-heated it, and re-applied that corner. Did much better the second time.

Are we talking about the same picture? because in the picture of the bottom of the OP3 it is clearly visible that the skin is pretty loose on the right side. Did you flatten that out already?

I guarantee there is nothing loose about any of the corners of the skin. It was actually one of my concerns, around the antenna bands, because that's a relatively high friction point when it's going into and out of my pocket. But it's holding up very well. No issues at all with the fit or hold.

Two questions.
1. Global question, will it leave any kind of ugly glue when we change our mind and removed it ?
2. National question, any one ordered from India ?

I can only answer point 1.
I used Dbrand on my S7 edge for close to 4 months and had to remove it as I smashed my screen :crying:... anyway, answer is no, it's a pretty clean remove with no adhesive left behind. A soft and swift wipe on my t shirt and the phone looks new again... Except for the cracks :crying::crying:

BestSkinsEver for LG G2

I hope this isn't a duplicate post. I've been looking for a matte skin for the LG G2 to remove the glossy plasticky GS4 feel of the phone. I saw that BSE do a matte body protector so I ordered one. I'm out of the US so it will take a while to get to me. Anyone have experience with the matte finish covers that BSE provides not just for the G2 but other phones too? Anyways I'm excited about this as the glossy back is the only thing I dislike about the LG G2.

please take pictures when you get it, and i hope you do not have a verizon G2..
NOTE: The VERIZON LG G2 has different buttons on the back and we do not yet have a cover for it. We hope to have make it available very soon.
I ordered one as well. It should be here tomorrow. I will take pics after I put it on. I have the AT&T G2.
Zagg's Invisible Shield dry application also has a matte back.
I just applied the matte Best Skins Ever to the back of my G2. So a few things...
The skin almost fits the back perfectly, covering the entire back panel. Because of this, it was pretty tricky getting the corners and edges on. So work your way from center to the edge as usual, then press and hold the edge/corner down with your fingers. I worked my way from the top of the phone to the bottom, using a 10 count before moving to the next spot. I've heard people with similar skins have used an iron on the corners. At this point, I don't think it's necessary for this one. We'll see tomorrow.
So remember, patience is your friend with this one. When you first put it on, it won't look like it will work (I was in "wtf" mode for a moment before giving it some thought). But go slow and apply pressure carefully on those pesky edges and corners.
Looks and feels great so far. Adds a bit of grippiness to it with no visible fingerprints. I also have the matte skin for the front, along with a spare glossy one just in case I hate the matte one. I'll report back after the bonding stage has passed.
edit:
After a few hours of waiting, turns out the bottom corners of the back skin was slightly misaligned, causing the bottom right corner to have a tiny piece that won't stay down. The holes were pretty much lined up, so I'm not sure if it was a user error or manufacturing error. What I ended up doing is using a hot iron to singe the corner (no more than 1-2 seconds at a time). It works like a charm. I applied the same method to the other corners just to be safe, even though they seemed like they were staying down fine.
The front matte skin isn't very appealing to me. I was afraid it would affect the quality of the image too much like most matte/anti-glare skins. I guess I was hoping it would be better than that. I was wrong. Color and dark images look fine for the most part. While viewing bright images however, the shimmery effect is a bit much. I'm a very visual person, so this bothers me a lot. I'll probably keep it on for another day or two. But ultimately, I'm going to switch to the glossy skin.

I'm curious because I am looking for a good matte skin that covers the entirety of the back of the phone. I also want a screen protector that maintains the smooth feel of the edges of the screen that are rolled over.
Yes, please post pictures! I want to buy this skin, but just want to double check first. If you can't find a camera, just take a picture in the mirror, haha.
Thanks!
check out the Zagg's Invisible Shield dry application...that too is matte.....

Black Carbon Fiber skin Skinomi

Okay so I won this skin in a Skinomi raffle giveaway so once I received it I decided to give in a try. It looks great not as good as the gunmetal finish but it definitely looks and feels like it's going to protect the phone from scratches but not drops. I still put a case on it sometimes when I go out to make sure that if it falls its protected and it doesn't interfere in any way.
I attached a couple of pictures if you guys are interested. I also have a Skinomi tempered glass on it which is excellent as well. Feels a bit flexible when you first install it but once on its great protection for your screen. And you don't even notice it on the screen. I made a mistake installing it and took it off from the top right corner and now there's a bubble there. I immediately filed for a replacement on their website and got a spare which I'm holding on till I feel I need to change it. Sorry for the lighting it's nighttime here and I don't have the best lighting in the world. Enjoy.
pretty nice, i like it.

I also just installed the carbon skin. I then installed my Supcase over the skin. I was happy to see that I could do that, it also made the case fit a little "snugger" and gave an overall better feel to the case/phone combination.

Skinomi Clear Matte Back Skin - Pictures

I installed the Skinomi clear matte skin on the back a few days ago. I'm really not a fan of how the back glass feels. It's slippery, attracts fingerprints, and gets slimey.
Personally, installing this has made the phone feel so much better. Plus, if you're going caseless like me, you mostly retain the original look of the phone.
For the most part, I did a decent job installing it. I put too much pressure on some parts when getting the bubbles out and dented the skin (it's wet install). Those are the odd looking spots in the pictures. Otherwise, all the bubbles came out over night. It also comes with clear matte sides and a font screen protector, which I don't plan on ever putting on. I recommend this is you're not a fan of the glass feel!
Edit: Here's a video that seoulbrova did of the clear skin (non-matte) https://youtu.be/K1kA2rK4y7k
Wow. I actually like the matte look a lot better. I might have to get me one of these.
Thank you!
Wow looks great I like it. Might have to do it too. Thanks.

Are you getting a substantial amount of grip from the skin? Its my biggest concern. I hate cases and even more so on big phones because the width is right where I max out now and a case kills the perfection of the width to body ratio. I saw the Sammy clear case with just corners but frankly the corners still look annoying, large and the clear case doesn't add much grip which is my entire issue.

I wouldn't say substantial, but it makes a difference. I would compare it to the back of the G4, but without the diamond pattern.

Do you feel like this is enough to give you the confidence to wheel it around one handed with no case?

Yes, but I was doing one handed without the skin too. I use pie control to put the home, back, and multitasking in the sides so I don't have to do hand gymnastics to get to the bottom of the phone. This way I can hold it so maybe 80% of the screen is accessible one handed. I think stretching your fingers to reach parts of the phone will lead to more accidental drops.

It doesn't add grip like the feeling of the Note 4, but it adds enough to make me feel much more comfortable when holding it. I compare it to the smoother matte back of the G4.
Yeah,it's cool. It doesn't look like it's on there. Great job! This is what I've been looking for. Thanks OP
i've got a crystal clear case for my white N5d coming in. this would be a great way to rid the glossy look which i don't really like.

Here's a video of it installed https://youtu.be/K1kA2rK4y7k
It adds significant grip imo. You can see how I turn it to show that it doesn't slip off. It reminds me of tackiness on football gloves.

Nice video. I added the link into the OP. Hope you don't mind. I wonder how the matte skin vs the clear skin compares in grip.
I've received mine on Thursday, it's been on the phone for 2 days now.
The fit could be better, and the edges tend to collect dust but it does look quite nice.
The texture is not tacky and reminds me of matte polycarbonate.

dbrand skin?

I'm considering getting one. Just curious if anyone has one here and how good it is in terms of quality, installation and grip. I have a sandstone case right now and just wondering if it's smarter to use a case instead. But I really like the way the look can be completely changed but want to get some feedback from anyone who already has one. Thanks in advance everyone.
had one on op3, looked really good, installation is easy, but feeling when it in hands is terrible, like old cheap pre-smartphone. i would better stick to case than dbrand skin. that's my position about dbrand.
I have been using one on my OP3 for a while.. the quality of the skin is decent enough and the look is great. The problem is that its really annoying in the hands as the skin, even when installed pretty much perfectly, has an edge to it which is uncomfortable to the touch. Even after using plastic cards or solid materials to skim the edges, its still annoying.
I also found the top and bottom pieces to be incredibly difficult to align during installation, and after only a little while they started to fray around the edges so I ended taking them off.
I personally love my skin!!
Dbrand
I ordered 2 types of black wraps(hyper titanium and matte black ) comes with full and a split . I like the full matte black looks better and less slippery than hyper titanium. I've never used cases with any of my phones so I can't compare it with a case but I can say it's less slippery than aluminum chassis . Definitely looks better if you get it right. You have pay extra attention to the corners they collect dust and dirt. When talking on the phone ,my beard (If you don't have one or shave every day that wouldn't be a problem for you ) gets stuck between wrap and phone and it hurts .Make sure you buy extra because it's so easy to f*** up. Look at the gap around the camera. This is the second one, first one didn't have that gap.
I wish they had a black version when they first released the 3t but dbrand is way cheaper than buying a whole new phone. Hope this helps
i had a skin on the back and front but the one on the front was insanely weak
Just got one couple days ago. Black leather and wood top and bottom with solid blue one plus logo. The phone looks sexy af. Installation is a little bit a pain though. The key is hairdryer and patience.

I will totally do like yours too once I get tired of mine.
I picked out a few skin backs and a few different top/bottoms that I thought would match. Well, they did look exactly like I thought that they would. Problem was, as has been mentioned above, the tops and bottoms, no matter how you grind/smooth them down, are still pretty sharp when holding the phone, but also they tended to get caught on fabric in my pocket. Another thing that the top/bottom took away from is the reflective surface of the metal right below the glass bezel, but above the actual top/bottom surfaces (that shiny "ring" that goes around the entire phone). I positioned them perfectly and you can still see it, but not as pronounced as without. I know that part is really inconsequential, but aesthetics are something to be factored in when making a decision on which skin, if any, to purchase.
I actually took off the top and bottom dbrand skins and left the back on like normal. Smoothed down just a bit more and the phone feels perfectly normal with no sharp edges. Looks better too imo. Kind of wished I got the black OP3T to help with the aesthetic point of view, but nothing that I would consider selling the gunmetal for at this point.
I got my Dbrand skin in leather for the body and camera, and carbon fiber for the top and bottom.
I'm very happy with the result.

SlickWraps Alcantara Charcoal color!
I've been a dBrand user for the longest time and didn't even know this Alcantara and their Natural Leather series (which uses real alcantara and leather material to make the skins) existed. This has to be the best feeling skin there is!
Only thing negative about these is their price... got mine on black friday 60% off. They have 50% off this week also.

Looks pretty slick, how is the thickness of the alcantara skin compared to other skins you've used in the past?
I have Samsung's Black Alcantara case and I do like it, I just prefer the phone to be naked with a thin skin so this would be a good aternative
Brought this one from Easyskinz.com
It's there "GLOSS JET WHITE Skin"
It sticks well and is easy to apply but I would of liked a bit more of a shiny white. There's not really a texture to it either just feels like a sticker.
(It does come with camera, front, side cutouts too)

It's pretty thick so you won't be able to use a case on top of it, i don't like to use cases so this is perfect. It gives you alot of grip, the edges kinda feel sharp but i think over time they will soften up.
They're on sale and today is the last day i think.

As far as the bubbles, it's not that bad. I like it. But for the price slickwraps charges, I would not pay full price for it. Just seems a bit much to me for something like this. Take a needle to the bubbles to pop them, the skin will recover from hole you create when you pop them. Just be careful not to poke too hard.

The vinyl sticker can handle a lot. When you do pop it smooth it out to push any air that is trapped. If you are careful when you pop the bubble it will help.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Slickwraps/comments/7je121/uslickwrapscom_has_been_banned_from_reddit_for/
apparently both slickwraps and dbrand have been caught brigading on reddit (downvoting any negative comments regarding their products, bad mouthing each others products, shilling, etc)
slickwraps is the worst offender it seems since they have low quality products + shipping issues

Here's some photos. Aren't the best quality. Were taken with a Nexus 6. As you can see, the bubbles. Those damn bubbles...

i wouldn't pop those bubbles. they'll actually disappear over time. I once put a wrap on and hated the bubbles and wanted to tear it off right away but left it on over night and a lot of the bubbles disappeared. After 4 days or so they all disappeared.

Yea I tried on one big bubble I had and it didn't feel right sticking a needle to the back of my phone. I haven't messed with it and it seems to have gotten a lil better over time. I actually like the rhino and skin combo. Looks good.
