Yeah, definetly buy a case, or at least a plastic battery cover, because it is the most SLIPPERY phone I've ever had. It has a great grip in my hands, but place it on a slightly uneven surface, and watch your phone slowly crawl to its death. I recommend the Luphie bumper case (the only bumper case that is aluminium), and there are some neat battery covers (especially the one with a wooden pattern like on the oneplus 2), as the glass back is REMOVABLE.
Hope this helps
Oh, and don't worry abot the bending.... Who the hell actually puts their phone in the back pocket?! It's just a trend that the iPhone 6 plus has created, no one cared about bends before.

I have it from 2 months: no bended phone atm
I use some covers too, because I don't want to see scratches or something on the phone.

Hi, can you give me more details on Luphie bumper?
I saw it before buying the Mi 5, but I'm not sure if: protects good the phone; it's slippery; and mostly if it scratches the phone borders.
Thank you.

Hi, right now it's shipping from China, I guess it will arrive around next week or so, as soon as it does, I'm going to post a review here. From experience with other phones and bumper cases, it will most likely scratch it, but I'd always put some thin carefully cut cloth or foil in between, and it always did the job. What probably will annoy me is that it's pretty thick, maybe I'll try sanding it down a little.

Im using mine for 4months, eventhough Ive got a hardcase, I prefer to use my TPU case for better grip. I also always have it in my pocket.
The phone is durable enough for practical and everyday use. Honestly, except for the youtube bend test of MI5, I havent seen or read any reports online (miui forums, FB mi5 group, or even here in XDA) of an end user whining or complaining about their Mi5 's getting bent.
So practically, with some common sense, Mi5 should endure any realistic and pracrical day to day scenario.

Ok nice so ill definetly buy the phone and a case you get amazing bang for buck with the Mi5. Thanks

anyone seen a case like this?

saw this when browsing cases for my wifes s3. Does anyone know of a case like this for the Note 2 that isn't insanely expensive? Main part is the lip that comes up a decent amount above the screen to protect the screen when the phone hits the floor.

I feel the same way. I'm nervous about dropping my device. The note 2 was actually a gift from my partner, hehe. So I want to take extra good care of it. I even wanted to buy the Otterbox Defender case which would make it a tank. I had that case for my iPhone 3G and it turned it into a tank / brick. So I'm going to stay away from it.
I did buy the Seidio Active Case for my Note 1, and it was a GREAT case. I loved it! It made it thicker, but it wasn't that bad. So I'd suggest a case like that. I wouldn't the Case Mate pop case either, but it's not out yet. Or I'm waiting for the Speck Pixel HD Case. That will make my day! I loved that case so much on my iPhone 4. Great protection, great design. Great case. Until then, I'm going to keep using the original cases and the cheapo cases.
Anyways, good luck! Share your findings / or review your cases I am kind of a case freak. I love cases! :$

Yeah.... I'm in Europe No AT&T in Spain.
I think AT&T got an exclusive perhaps? I mean, why else would Case-Mate NOT want to put it up on their website and sell 100 times more across the globe?

This is pretty close and comes with a kickstand. The only thing I do not like is the hard shell is 2 piece and might be a pain to remove once you install it. The softshell just stretch over the hard shell. Looks like an otterbox defender with raise screen lip.

I will try to post some useful info but I DO NOT have my note 2 yet, it is coming tomorrow.
Here goes to a half-assed review
1) The TOP CORNERS are not protected at all. They are protected by the somewhat thin, soft, flexible material and not protected by at least the outer plastic part like on the bottom and that's a problem. I am guessing corners should be protected the most because that is what causes the screen to crack(unless it faceplants)
2) I am NOT SURE about the how trustworthy the lip is because I NEVER had a case on a smartphone and my samsung vibrant was like an unbreakable brick. From my experience of looking at products through videos, pictures, etc. the lip does not seem like it will bring enough protection for a faceplant.
Unfortunately, I will ask for a refund.
P.S. The shipping part was very fast, the only thing that will make this seller a 6/5 would be if I get a refund
Hope this helps some of you out in your decision
Great I just ordered this case in white and blue yesterday

stay away from the dual layer "mesh" like ones on that link. really CRAP
the other ones the fishbone style ones are actually shockingly nice considering how cheap they are. they are NOT easy to take apart again without breaking (slow careful and once you pop the joint use a thumbtack to pop each successive joint)
but they are surprisingly nice.
you can get a case ology case like the one you posted for the Note II I am still waiting for case ology to get on the ball and make the impact case (with the 2 arcs on the back) that I like and use on all my phones when possible.
I also got a Jelly Tank case from korea. its a one piece hybrid but VERY protective. not "as" protective of the screen as I would like but so far very impressed with it.
I got these because of the good protection on the corners and front:

Got the "Hybrid" case from ebay and it sucks. Inside hard shell is doesn't fit so the phone moves around a creaks. Hard to use the buttons and makes it too think. I think I migh try the Ionic Guardian case next.

Are cases really necessary for the Note 2? Share your experience

Hi all
I just ordered a Note 2 and, by all the comments on cases around here, I wonder if I should hurry to also get a case.
But the point is: is it really necessary?
- A case makes this big phone even bulkier.
- A case can compromise ports access, external audio quality and the gps/nfc/... receptions
- A good case can cost a lot of money
- I won't find a case around the corner (at least, here in Brazil). I must buy it online, maybe pay for shipping and wait for like a month for it to come to me.
Hey, I don't want to be critical to the ones who feel important to use a case. Just want to start some discussion here
My point of view:
I'm retiring an old Motorola Defy. It has never used any kind of case or screen protector and its condition is quite good. It is always in my pocket (a lot of times sharing the space with a bunch of keys) and it has fallen to the ground some times, from like the pocket height for instance.
I know the Note 2 is a different phone, so thats the point of the question. I've never had another Samsung phone, so I may not have the right idea about the durability of it.
So, I'm looking forward to your thoughts and experiences on using (or not using) protective cases for the Note 2.
I would prefer not to have one, but I would mostly get one if this really happens that Samsung did a fragile phone and it is important to get external protection.
100% need a case. I got my note 2 weeks ago and bought a genuine Samsung case which is skim anyway. Protects the screen and back from scratches. Plus no case makes it slippery and one drop will mean destroyed phone. Good luck mate!

Hi Brayden87, thanks for the reply.
I've seen the samsung case on the Note 1. It really is slim.
It actually is so slim I wonder it really does protect the phone. Would you say it can make the difference upon a drop?
This is one I would like to get... probably easier to find too.
For the love of god get a case. I have a cover for that it a back plate with a leather flap that goes over the screen, and a screen protector. My wife has a full case for hers.
I dropped my. Screen smashed. She drops hers a few times not one scratch.
After I get a DIY new screen off amazon. Im buying am otter box. (Rogers send broken screens to samsung and costs $280. Or a DIY is only $16)

Hi plugsmustard.
Very interesting experience. It seems that this phone is really more fragile than my Defy. I don't doubt that, it is so much larger and thinner, it looks like it may brake easily. Its just that Samsung should be salling a phone that is fairly resistant to the day-to-day misshapenings...
But these otterbox are very expensive and would have to find a retailer that ships to Brazil. Can I trust Ebay sellers?
Isn't it too bulky?
What are the least requirements for a good protective case?
Note 2 size is big so I do not want case for it. Only a carbon back cover for better handling and protect camera. When bezel is scratched, I replace it for 5$. Perfect way for me .

You can purchase knock-off Otterbox cases from eBay, as well as others such as the Griffin Survivor case (fake, but still provides great protection) Casemate Tough and the Urban Armor Gear Note 2 case, etc.
Above-mentioned cases have been thoroughly reviewed by the one and only Vectron, and are viewable here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192333
I got the body glove tpu... slim and sexy. Dropped my phone about 4ft high and didn't get any damage. Of course could be just luck. Phone is big and slick without a case. I would get a slim tpu type of case if you are worried about bulk. It gives a little more protection than naked.

For the love of all that is good and holy, get a case. And you don't need to go crazy buying an expensive one or waiting forever for a HK distributor. I own a bunch of cases because I love to swap 'em out, but my go-to case (and one of the least expensive cases I've bought is the Duzign Sentinel from from eBay that I got for $7.00 from a seller named senyx. The auctions are non-stop and I often see them ending at the opening bid of $7.00, like when I got mine. Shipping is free and the seller is in CA, so you get it quickly:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Duzign-Sent...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item20d25bad89
It's been discussed on other threads, but this one has a cool H.R. Giger alien look to it, offers awesome protection, and it has, in my opinion, the best TPU inner layer of any case (it's got a nice thick lip to protect the screen of your Note 2 in case of an unlucky fall). Heck the TPU is a great case by itself, and the outer shell comes with a kickstand for horizontal viewing. the Sentinel is identical to the Cruzer Lite Spi-Force case which sells for about $20. Just don't get the black/white as the white does get dirty pretty quickly. Mine is black on black and besides my UAG and bamboo cases, it easily gets the most compliments.
That is my .02 . . . hope it helps.
Not that it's particularly delicate, but it is particularly expensive.
If you don't buy a case, I expect the first bit of damage to trigger a new thread "Scratched by $600 phone! Damn!"
Hi everybody.
Thanks for all the opinions. These Duzign Sentinel do seem quite robust and not that bulky. The looks are quite odd (comparing to the original sober looks of the phone) but are not that bad...
That is the kind of price I would pay without feeling that I am paying a lot to have a bulkier phone.
I wont bother much if the bezel gets scratched. My main concern is the screen integrity.
I do have one year warranty (which I do not know if covers external damage :/) and, if something happen, I could always go DIY to try to fix it. The biggest problem would be the phone become useless for weeks :/
I do agree that it is important to feel safer with such expensive phone.
At the other hand, is hard to believe that Samsung, which is leading against Apple in such quality fight, still delivers such a fragile gadget and even dont provide a reasonable protection option as an accessory. That is very awkward.
Case-mate Tough seems very nice and is found at US$ 10.99 on Amazon. Too bad it doesn't ship to Brazil.

Any other suggestion of worldwide retailers? Ebay?

Haha . . so true. I know it's dorky, but I remember my grandmother always telling me: "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Well, in this case, a $10 case is worth a $100 deductible.

Actually cheaper through Case-Mate because shipping is free if you have Amazon Prime. This other seller requires a $3.99 surcharge. Still, $14.64 is a good deal. Returns or problems would probably be handled much better through original retailer, as well.

Good question. I had the flip case but it sucks and I dropped my phone twice and got two nice dents. I ordered a simple case for like 5 bucks just so the back doesn't feel slippery and what not. I do not use a screen protector, it'll be fine.
I bought the seidio active case and a glass screen protector before I even bought the note ii. This is a very expensive phone, I wouldn't use it and not buy some kind of protection. Seidio has an updated case call surface case but it didn't work with the glass screen protector cause the inside hard case would rub against the screen protector and push it up.The active case work great it's very slim and has a holster. Well long story short, I dropped my phone many times and nothing has broke or cracked. My job is physically demanding and its easy to bump or drop. Alot of my coworkers has cracked screens or has broken there phone.

I think you're confused with another case, I have the protective cover+ and it's probably 2-3mm thick. Adds barely any thickness to the note 2 and looks awesome. Cost me $30. I didn't want a big case and this one is perfect for me. Covers everything you want covered.

Very interesting indeed. And very nice looking bumper btw. This metallic bumper wouldn`t interfere on the device antennas?
I will consider these as well... I wonder how they compare to full body cases such as Duzign Sentinel, Speck Candyshell or Case-mate Tough.
I didn't feel like I needed a case at all. Till I dropped it. Twice. The rear cover went flying and so did the battery. Phone held up flawlessly, but i didn't like the flying parts. So I bought a cute Incipio case from androidcentral.com

Anybody using their OnePlus 3 Naked? How good or bad is it to drops or dents?

I am thinking of using my phone naked now, i really love the aluminium frame plus mine is soft gold so its a pretty classy feel
i have been investing on cases and tempered glasses a lot every time to find a worn out case after use of just 1 month or a cracked tempered glass after a significant drop
I drop my phone a lot not big drops but yeah significant ones rarely a big one, thats mostly dude to the charging wire getting hooked somewhere or trying to find my glasses in the dark only to find i swiped my phone off the table or the phone slipping off my hand.
What do you guys suggest?
I had once or twice had a significant drop when my phone was naked and surprising it hardly took a scratch on the frame, so i think the phone is sturdy enough but i obviously wont risk it.
Any suggestions/experiences of using phone naked?
Please hold off Cases or tempered glass suggestions rather than spamming because Here in India i get pretty cheaper alternative so i rather wear 10 cases than buy an expensive case because branded cases/glasses are comparatively pretty expensive than the local ones which are better value for money.
Still if someone has a good indian deal its fine
I have two pretty nice dents in the corners of mine... which led to me getting a case.
My preference would be to never use a case (what's the point of a super thin phone if you're going to put a case on it?).
But this phone it just too slippery.
I've never had a problem holding on to my previous phones; this one would slip out of my hand several times a week.
I'm sure the case has kept me from destroying the phone.

Don't use it without case m8! It's asking for problems, what you could do is get a dbrand skin and ofcourse a tempered glass protector but those do not really help with nasty drops!

NEED a Case??

For those of you who already own the 5, do you think with the aluminum w/ resin coating body that it still needs a case? Just wondering your thoughts.
Thanks!!
I think it doesn't strictly NEED a case.
The back is made of durable materials (i.e. not glass ?)
I still got a screen protector tho. I used my Pixel 4 without screen protector and it got scratched pretty badly when it fell on tile floor. ?
That being said, it totally depends on personal preference.
I tend to be pretty careful with my phones and I rarely drop them.

Yeah, I agree. You don't HAVE to buy a case, but it prob is a good idea.
That sux. I guess that's better than nothing. I'm not a fan of screen protectors myself, but I know some ppl who always buy them.
That's good that you're careful with them. I am too, but even though rare, I still may drop mine here or there. lol
I went ahead and ordered one of Google's fabric cases for the 5. I've heard from a couple ppl that they feel really nice in the hand, and they can be washed in the washer too I guess.
Though choice for me this time.
I love the build and feel of the device so i actually don't want to use a case, and if i do i would really need a grippy and really slim one.
But I'm going to start with a skin to get some form of protection without changing to much.
Still debating to use a screen protector as I'm no fan of them and i believe it's not really needed with gg 5 or 6.
I also think it's fast to satisfying to touch this nice raisin coating. My last phone (huawei mate 20 pro) had both curved glass front and back, and after using it for nearly two years only with a skin and screen protector it finally fell down the day I was changing those and cracked on both sides...
Since the mate was nearly twice as expensive and less durable from day one, I think a case is only worth it if you plan on keeping the phone for several years or if you want to sell it in a prestine condition.
But at this price point I think I'll just enjoy my pixel again with just a skin and screen protector.
TL;DR:
Even the slimmest cases make the phone nearly twice as thick so they actually increase the probability of dropping it so a nice skin and screen protector should already do the job
All good points made here!
I ordered a Google fabric case for my Pixel 5. But I guess I COULD just return it if I don't feel like keeping it, and just go case-less. We shall see..................................................
I used my pixel 5 since launch without a case on, no issues at all. My bellroy leather case has arrived now, nice slim fit and soft leather back. It's really nice
A case is going to give you some cushioning if dropped. As one that drops his phone from time to time, a case is essential to me for that reason alone.

Nillkin Textured case

I got this case today & It's AMAZING! It's really high quality & feels good in the hand. It also makes back of the phone look good! That texture is amazing! With this case there is no camera bump anymore, it's perfectly aligned. Cuts are precise, it leaves a bit of space for holes, which is good. Phone is a bit thiccer, but it's not an issue for me. I didn't notice any weight increase subjectivily when holding it in the hand. I paid for it 17 euros which is quite expensive but it's worth it. You can get it a bit cheaper through AliExpress.
Highly recommend it!

Not to rain on your parade but that case is terrible, I bought it and got a refund on it not 2 days after.
It's textured sure but it's not rubber texture but plastic texture, meaning it'll slip from the table to the floor more times than you can count, I managed to break my tempered glass because the phone slid from the table to the floor because the case isn't grippy. You're better off with the case the phone came in, at least it isn't slippery. Or get a Spigen case like I did, they got released this week.
Also, I bought it for 7 euros on Aliexpress, how did you paid 17?

Well, there is no free shipping on Aliexpress for Serbia so there is that. Case is not slippy at all imo, it didn't move when placed on table. I looked for Spigen case as I heard they are good quality too but it's not avaliable here, so yeah. I think I read your post somewhere for Nillkin regular case, not this one containing the same issues you described. I could be wrong there.
I used Nillkin case back on Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo & it was also really good. They were very popular back than so that's why I decided to buy Nillkin case.

Seems the one you bought is cloth based, mine was hard plastic. Nillkin does produce good cases but the one I got was such a disappointment.
I have a Nillkin Frosted Glass plastic case on my Poco X3, it's my fifth phone so far with that case. It's pretty good, although the white ones tend to get... not white very soon.
Is it higher around the camera to protect it?

Yes
I bought this case at aliexpress. The quality looks good. All holes are cut-out perfect
However, I don't like this case. It feels hard. And I hate the texture on the back side. Due to the texture small dirt particles sit between the dots. They don't go away with a fast wipe. The cut-out for the camera is a circle. Spigen uses a rounded rectangle which I prefer.
Sorry to say, but I really don't like this case. It feels just not smooth. The backside feels like sandpaper. Unpleasant to touch or hold the phone.
A member above said the case slips easily around. Like a ice cube. I can't confirm that. Actually it has a good grip on different surfaces.
That's all personal preferences. What I hate, others may love. As I said, quality looks great.
I'll get my spigen case in a few days. I know them from my old phones. Can't wait.

Hi,
I ordered this case, I paid 11.45 USD only, it might be more expensive than other cases here, but after I bought a cheap case I decided that I won't waste money on cheap useless cases anymore, so I searched and found Nillkin is the most popular.
I have a question though, if you please...
Do I have to remove the case every week to clean the dust that go inside, like other cases?
Thanks in advance

I found a better one which protects the camera, I received it today, hard case feels smooth in my hand, everything is fine except that the edges need to be higher than the screen a lil bit more to protect it, unfortunately it is not; after I installed the case I noticed that my screen protector tempered glass is higher than the case edges.
