OEM Unlock - T-Mobile Note 7 Questions & Answers

Did anyone's elses replacement Note7 have the Oem Unlock option in developer settings?
I don't remember having this option on my original Note7. I wonder if this will enable new rooting possibilities

Wow your right.
When did that happened.. Anyone test yet?

That doesn't do much. It's a standard setting that's on all developers settings

yep I looked into it further it appears just to be a Android layer of protection. It allows the Bootloader that is unlocked by the OEM to work and prevents Exploits from being executed if the setting is off.

Missing "screen on while charging" option?

There used to be an option that would keep the screen on while charging, incredibly useful when in the car dock, but it's missing from what I can tell. Any solutions for this, or maybe help me find it if I'm blind?

Uhm, I don't see it anywhere in there. Have you looked on this phone?
Its not there on stock ATT roms. The custom roms have it.
Yes, it's there on mine...it's the 2nd option down (Stay Awake). See screenshot attached.

What version/type do you have, because it's most certainly not there on Sprint's.
Ah, that may explain it then. I have the SIM free version from the UK.
Don't really know much about Sprint phones. Maybe you'd get a more reliable answer from the 'Sprint HTC One forum'.
But I'm guessing they probably removed the option if you can't find it anywhere. Check the Sprint forum, there may be a mod over there to re-enable the option.

Stay Awake option not in ATT rom, looked all over for it. It is not in Developer options at all.
It was also removed from the 401.12 firmware update

Just checked.... it's also missing from the TrickDroid 5.1.0 as well. I ended up at this thread because I've been searching for a way to set the screen on while charging. I'm sure it was taken out for a good reason (one would assume) but I really do miss it.
Missing from my Developer Edition. WTF
Yea.... who the hell made that decision and thought it was a good one?

Unlock bootloader not possible?

I wanted to unlock bootloader and therefore checked the root settings. It says that unlock is not allowed. Is that because I bought it over network provider or can I simply ignore it? Is everyone of you able to unlock it?

This has been covered a few times. This means that your carrier has blocked unlocking of the bootloader, so you will NEVER be able to unlock it. There is no way around this.

As far as I read in the net there is a paid way to unlock it. Does anyone know if it is possible to unlock without opening it to activate test point...

Do you know what is Unlock Bootlader? Do you know what is SIM Unlock? They have nothing to do one to each other.
Unlocking Bootlader will not Unlock SIM Carrier. To unlock SIM Carrier you have to pay for it.

Actually I did not say any words of unlocking SIM. Talking about bootloader... there is a tool called SETool2. With that it is possible to unlock phones that aren't unlockable. The phone needs to be put into test point mode connecting some pins on the board.
Just wanted to know is anybody has experiences with that.
Ps. .. And in most cases when unlocking the phone the SIM lock vanishes too

Nexus 6 lollipop 5.1 AT&T update

So apparently, AT&T has not yet approved the 5.1 update, so I can't update my Nexus 6. However, someone mentioned the idea of doing a factory reset, removing the Sim, and rebooting. Does this method actually work?

Yes, reports have said that this will work.

Sounds plausible, with the device on wifi and no SIM.
But, that said, where did you get it? If an ATT N6, wouldn't it still not be given the OTA by Google because of the ATT IMEI?
You could just flash the image as well I suppose....

Google's not looking at IMEI for OTAs. Only at SIM.
I actually tried the sim removal method. Didn't work, for me at least. I bought the phone from the AT&T store
I can confirm this works on an at&t purchased phone. I removed my Sim card did a factory wipe and set it up. Don't put in the Sim card back in till it asked if you want to update.
Hope this helps.
Update: I'm finally running Lollipop 5.1. I just sideloaded it using a video tutorial.
I've been looking at side loading but I saw that some people have a problem when they have a boot pin code set. I can't figure out how to turn that off. Anyone know how to turn that off or am I a stuck with that due to encryption?

If you re-enable a pin code now that you updated, it will ask you if you want to apply that at boot up as well, if you only want it on the unlock screen, say no, and you'll no longer have it at boot ...
Thanks, but "none" is greyed out. Any other suggestions.

Sprint n7 on T-Mobile???

Anyone know if a sprint n7 unlocked will work on T-Mobile properly??? Thanks.
Yes they all will but you may not get the specific TMO software tweaks.
Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
Yes you can do it. Can't unlock it yet though. We need an ENG kernel or a root to be able to unlock.

What are you talking about? Either the Sprint Note 7 with an unlocked sim slot works or it doesn't. If it has the radios and it sees the simcard for TMO. Then it should work. No need to wait for much.

Unless Sprint unlocks your phone, you're not gonna be able to use it on T-Mobile until a root method drops. Once rooted we can unlock them. I've unlocked over 100 S7 edges from Sprint. Its what I do for a living.

OK. So that's what you do. *shrug* But I doubt it.
The OP asked if an unlocked Note 7 would work on TMO. It will if the sim card is unlocked.
It's a code to unlock it not a kernel. The kernel would be to unlock the bootloader ... a sim unlock and a bootloader unlock are different beasts.
It's not the sim card that has to be unlocked. It's the phone. Sprint don't take codes anymore. Sprint has to approve the unlock now. Just like T-Mobile and the device unlock app. The custom engineering kernel will grant root access to write the correct byte in for the unlock.

Well, the sprint N7 has root now. Do you think you can unlock it? The one I bought is NOT unlocked.
More than likely. I'm on vacation though. Europe

If it's fully paid for then Sprint has to unlock it if you ask. Then you will be able to use it on any carrier.

If its fully paid for they will be able to tell in their system and will unlock it. Doesn't matter who bought it first. The main thing is if it's fully paid for.

Unlocked phone on Verizon network (hotspot)

Can anyone using an unlocked note 8 let me know if you can still use the hotspot feature?
Also curious if you have an unlocked S8 or S7 , does the hotspot work?

Yes I read that people with the unlocked s8 can use the hotspot without Verizon getting in the way. So the unlocked Note8 should be the same. The only trade-off is you do not get Wi-Fi calling or HD calling because the firmware does not support it. I don't use those features so it doesn't bother me. You can flash the Verzion firmware and get those features but you lose the hotspot. Idk if you can go back to carrier unlocked firmware so I'm not messing with it.

I had no idea this was possible. I thought everyone using Nougat was locked out of hotspot without root regardless of the phone being unlocked. If that's the case, I'd return the Note I ordered from Verizon and just buy it from Bestbuy.

For users in the "New" Verizon Unlimited plan, would an unlocked phone bypass the 15GB limit on hotspot before they throttle you to 3G?
