Question: Auto brightness - T-Mobile Note 7 Questions & Answers

Here's one for you....
Auto brightness yesterday was working fine. Nice gradual increments and so on.
Today, it's a very jarring change. Almost like it moves 1/4 of the bar each jump
Not sure how to explain it.
Any way to reset whatever caused this?

[SOLVED] lower brightness option for night time browsing (like night mode)

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone new how to lower the brightness level to below that of stock, up to the level of night mode if I needed.
I like to do a bit of browsing before I sleep, and the brightness levels even on the lowest hurt my eyes! If anyone knows how to do this I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!
UPDATE: Issue helped, and possibly resolved with the help of my mate Rich @ Geek you Up. Check out his app in my thread:

Ive been looking at the Auto-Brightness thread and it seems Cyan already knows how to tweek the brightness values, but I dont even know what a github is let alone the deving needed to acheive this.

Anyway, the Desire has 10 auto-brightness levels, and the N1 has only 5. These are just an array of lux/brightness values. I put them into my vendor overlay and rebuilt, and I have to say it's much nicer. I'm going to include it in the next CM.

Cyan if you can help, I would appreciate it!! But understand if the modding is far more important
Like how the brightness dims before the screen auto turns off, or how it is dim when you tap the sleep button in the clock application - these would be good. As for that stock widget that controls the wifi, blutooth, gps, sync and brightness, i never touch it because it messes with autobrightness, but if it could be changed to temporarily go really dim thatd be perfect

Either my friend! The clock application goes even dimmer than I want, so somewhere in between would be great. But I'm sure that could be customized, I just dont know where to start looking..
I'd be really interested in this too - I like reading in bed before going to sleep, but the wife doesn't like the light being on. I have to angle my nexus slightly away as it is too bright, even at the lowest setting, to have it directly facing me while in a dark room.

[Q] Backlight keeps fading and coming back??

I bought a Tab P1010 a fortnight ago. Generally been happy with it, but I've noticed something thats begining to annoy.
Just prior to going into standby, the backlight level drops slightly before going off. That seems to be the normal way things work.
However, on mine, the level goes to that stage randomly. Touching the screen may bring it back up after 5 seconds or so, but not straight away. And it happens even when I'm scrolling the screen and there has been activity going on.
Any idea?
Or have I got a return on my hands?
do you have "auto" set on your brightness?
I find when i have brightness set to auto it can go duller or brighter seemingly at random (particularly irritating if im reading)
i mostly manage my brightness level myself
Dont know if this is related to your issue ... good luck

lol I feel such a fool!
I was fully aware of the auto back light setting and had already set it to the unchecked.
However at the weekend, I did a full factory reset. All settings had gone. However, it does show up how useless that setting is as the changes seem very random!
Cheers for the reminder.

Auto brightness issue

Anyone else having issues with auto brightness after the pie update? My phone sometimes does not change the brightness automatically when I move from a bright to dark environment until I turn the feature off and on again.

go to a dark place slide the brightness to desired level. no go under a bright ligh then shut it off and see.
Just tried this. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't I still have to turn it off and on again for it to work again.
it's the new adaptive brightness..... you set the desired light in each situation over the next few days using the slider (adaptive ON)... it will adapt to your preferences in different situations.....

Thanks I'll give it a try.
Doesent work with my note 9 Pie...
I Flashed ota from 8.1 and later i flashed back to 8.1.
Later i flashed again 9.0 but this time not via ota. I flashed it clean via odin.
Same issues with adaptive brightness :
1. It does NOT learn my pattern. This means : I turn it darker. And later in the same spot it turns it back to the middle... Over days and days the same.
2. If you turn on the camera-app, it turns the brightness high. That is okay, i like that. But if you turn the app off, and if you are too fast for the system, it stays enlighten untill u lock ur device !
Oreo :
1. It learns my pattern from day one (!). I turn it darker. Later on the same spot : It stays dark ! Perfect
2. Turn on the camera app and it got brighter. Nice, like Pie, right ? Yes, but turning the camera-app off and swiping it instand away from recent apps, it turns imediatly back to the normal brightness, it learned from you !
I hate it ! Pie does not work fine with my brightness preferences !
Other user in other forums have the same issues with pie...
And there is no way around. I tryed it all. Every option and every possibility. Iam not a beginner in android.
I gave the adaptive brightness a cance of 10 Days, but every day it learned nothing. And the Camera problem...Turn the app on and open recent apps and swipe the camera away and then go back to home. If u do it too fast (I do it every time on every phone with MY speed) it stays bright like u throw it in the sun
Same here adaptive brightness has gone bonkers for me after pie upgrade. Just like you it works when it wants to. Really frustrating.
So please guys, tell samsung that problem in the members app.
The users in our german forum did that, and i did that too.

Anyone having issues with Screen Brightness level resetting?

Is anyone experiencing issues with screen brightness adjusting itself without you changing it? I'm not talking about auto-adjusting from adaptive brightness - I'm talking about the slider moving up on its own. I keep it around 25% or so often to save battery life during heavier usage, and after turning the screen off and checking moments later, the brightness level will be up around 50-75% (it varies). I've only noticed this since the Pie update, and I'm not sure if it happens while adaptive brightness option is turned off. Anyone else have this issue?
Pie made a change were "Adaptive Brightness" literally means the slider moves on its own(and is now the absolute brightness). Its supposed to be more clever than the "offset" style slider we had before because it "learns your preferences" if you move it manually. I guess the idea goes you just keep adjusting it manually if you don't like the setting it chose and the next time it encounters that level of light it uses your setting instead of what it usually would have used. Seems pretty cool to be honest.

Ah, OK, I didn't realize that. It does sound cool, as long as it starts remembering where I like it. I do move it around though during different times/situations, so I may just turn it off and manually adjust when I need to. Thanks for the info.

GALAXY A30 Screen brightness problem

Hi everyone, I bought a Galaxy A30 a few months ago, and I have noticed after playing Call of Duty that when playing the screen lowers automatically its bright from one moment to another. At first I tought it was some game related bug, because when lowering the notificacions panel the screen bright still marks the top level. After a few days I noticed this started to happen in another apps like instagram, suddenly the screen lowers like 30% of it brightness and I try to move the brightness bar to a lower level and go back to full to see it it goes back to normal, but even with the bar at full it stays like that, darker, with a very clear difference from the full bright of five minutes ago. I know there is an option for auto brightening wich was always disabled, and if it was caused by that option, the brightness bar should also lower and not staying at the top as it does now.
The thing is that whenever this happen, I get used slowly to the new amount of bright and cannot tell if it goes back to normal or WHEN it goes back to normal. If it does, its pretty gradually because I dont notice it. There seem to be nothing in common between the cases, this doesn't happen when charging or something like that, happens anytime..
Does anyone knows what can be causing this?
