I completely understand why Google did this but one thing I liked about the N5 was how it had features other phones didn't. One big one just went bye-bye. http://gigaom.com/2014/08/01/the-go...ailable-for-almost-all-modern-android-phones/
GNL has been available for other devices for a while now.
The apk has been floating around the web since the N5 was released or shortly there after.
I still think the nexus line of devices are still very unique in that they get the fastest updates and developer support is second to none!
If there is a particular developer's work you like to follow, make sure to support him/her to show them your appreciation!

Don't get me wrong, I love the N5 and have been nothing but pleased with it since I got mine. I liked the fact that I had a launcher that others did not and could not have without going out of the way to get it. Now it is much easier to install for users and I would expect it to pop up more in the wild than previously seen.

I felt like that with the new google camera. I thought they were just going to update it for the N5 but they ended up releasing it for a lot of phones. However, maybe that will speed up new updates for it since it's not just for one phone.

Only the Nexus 5 can use "HDR+" (HDR isn't anywhere near the same as "HDR+"), which is closed source (and also limited to Google Camera).
This has been available for a while now. I was running it on my Galaxy Nexus back in the day and, when it hit Google Play, many GPE devices were able to install it too. Now it’s even available on a lowly iPhone (some more detail at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Now).
I'll file this thread under "slow news day."
Honestly I hardly ever used the GNL

Yeah good point. I mean I'm over it now lol. I remember being a bit upset about the lens blur. Even though a lot of cameras have that feature already.
The launcher is by far the furthest thing from making the Nexus 5 what it is.

This. I actually don't like it at all. Nova all the way.
I hated the exclusive feature of GEL or GNL whatever it's called. Let it be open to all(without side loading)
Why are you upset that others have the option of the launcher ... Sorry but that seems childish
O.T. Less unique is also impossible. Something is either unique or not. There is no halfway.
You bought a phone with unlimited customization capabilities and you whine that the stock launcher for it, the phone that is the DEVELOPMENT device, for the entire Android ecosystem, has been made available to other Android devices?
First World Privilege Problems?
Kids these days...
The nexus series is always unique as it always gets the latest & the greatest android. Google had no plan of making the launcher a nexus 5 only thing. Even in the worst case, I'm sure Google would have at least supported the launcher on the older nexus phones officially. All of it was a part of Google's plan. First they saw how people received the launcher on the nexus 5. Following all the hype, they eventually made it available to all the devices out there.
Remember, Google's primary aim is to make all of its services available to all of its users. That's why they built android. They used android to reach their users & to make their services available to them easily & efficiently.
This really only applies to most of us that mod or like to customize our phones. IMO those people probably already use GOOGLE NOW Launcher anyways on whatever custom ROM they are running. I really dont see how this makes the phone less unique. Apps are not unique, the actual phone is what makes it unique than other phones on the market.
my 2 cents
Hello good people. Doesn't anyone know if the TF701 is getting this upgrade?
We can hope so but I've not seen anything official from Asus.
Highly unlikely imo but you never know. We are approaching the 18 month point that marks the end of official support.

September 2013 (I thought it was August but I bought mine in Sep)
So that means soon we will be in month 14.
I feel like Asus abandoned us
I've been holding off putting a third party ROM on my TF701T as Asus had been good about updating other tablets. But I feel like their crappy docking hinge caused lower sales which makes them care very little about this particular product. My guess is we aren't going to see Lollipop officially. Good things there is active development going on.

He (pershoot) has said it a couple of times in his CM thread that he was going to make a lollipop rom, but it was a while ago, and I assume most people forgot about it or something.

I asked the people of ASUS and they said there are no plans a.t.m. for an android 5.0 release
Good news, pershoot released an unofficial cm 12 (android 5) port for tf701t yesterday
droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=3671
I've just installed it via cwm recovery.
While I don't want to raise false hope, I just want to share one special brochure made by ASUS Singapore, indicating that there might be a 5.0 update for the tf701t. http://pricewatch.vr-zone.com/itshow/pricelists/view/ASUS7
Hmm, that's interesting. We can only hope.

I just got two updates in the last to days. They usually put out updates before they do a major upgrade like lollipop so I take this as a hopeful sign.

No, these weren't just app updates they were system updates. Got to watch the android dude a little bit both times. After the first my background changed after the second the pulldown changed. Still on 4.4.2
While I was in contact with ASUS support I asked about Android L to the TF701T. First they said that they had no info, but later I got a reply, where they said that the had contacted the RD-department and that ASUS have no plans on releasing Android L for the TF701T.
We can onlu hope that this info is incorrect or ASUS change their minds. They havn'nt made any offical statement at all regaring Android L to tablets, have they?

It doesn't surprise me as we are approaching 2 years. ASUS don't really release updates beyond 18 months. All their latest transformers seem to be using Intel chips for Android as well.
So, it's quite possible that our much beloved Nexus 5 doesn't receive final Android N, afterall.
In that case, I was wondering it anyone would be interested in providing a custom N build, with no changes, compared to Google's own build.
I mean, ODEX, non-zipaligned, no root, nothing. Just stock like stock Google software.
I'd pay for this.
Is it possible for someone to create a ZIP that can be sideloaded in the default recovery?

When the final release is out, it's pretty safe to say that someone will make a build for the Nexus 5. Until then, there is nothing devs can do right now. Google currently doesn't have everything available to do so.
Yes, I know.
I'm talking about the future, after N is uploaded to AOSP.
I know there will be lots of ROMs, but I just wanted stock Google software, no root, theme, anything.
Basically, an unofficial Google OTA.
I'm willing to pay for this, and I can gather many people to join this cause.
probably Google will release android N to Nexus 5, but its the last official release to it. Just like Nexus 4 on Lollipop era, was pretty the same thing.
How is that surprising they want you to buy the next device so if they drop support look at it this way you can always install a ROM and I'm confident you will see something up fast

Nop, Google won't release the Android N for Nexus 5, as they dropped the support for newer releases in October 2015. But of course that as soon as the source code is out we'll get the update because the devs will take care of that

Since you aren't clairvoyant I'll wait to see. The N7 2013 got MM but if you go by the date listed on googles site they stoped officially supporting it in July of 2015. And if not, eh.. There will be tons of N roms once its released. Most likely day one.

True though xD
Looks like afterwards I have reason
We all know there will be lots of ROMs.
But the purpose of this thread, is to get to know if any developer would like to provide a stock "Google" equivalent, for those that want their N5 to feel like it's been updated by Google itself.
I'll sure try, especially if there is money on the line lol
I won't make any promises, but I'll gladly take a look when the source gets out if I still have the device.
I've been reading stuff on Reddit, and many people would appreciate this "Google experience" ROM.

No it is not officially over, nothing on that page confirms it is officially over. Only the ''Guaranteed" support is over for the Nexus 5.
That doesn't mean it won't get Android N, I think the chance for a official release of Android N for the N5 is really small but there's still a chance it will get it.
Till the final release of Android N is out no one knows anything for sure if it comes to the future of the N5.

I know he used to do it for the N5, pretty sure I've seen his builds for a few other phones as well. That was his thing. When a new Android OS comes out he usually releases a stock / AOSP build. Non rooted, no mods, etc. I'm not sure if he's still around though, but it can't hurt to ask.

Looking at the history of ROMs in the past here on XDA, there is usually always someone who ports a pure AOSP build with no mods. I wouldn't worry about it much. Especially this early.
I hope so.
Not really into modding/rooting/whatnot.
A stock Google-ish ROM for me, and I'll be happy.
Dont worry man.. Nexus 5 is still pretty popular phone and dev friendly so IMHO you shouldn't be worried at all.. There is i believe 99% chance u will have Android n, just be patient for a couple of months when the Android n will be officially released

Curious how do I enroll this phone in the Android 12 beta? I checked the Google beta page, and it only showed my old Pixel 4 XL on the list, which is already on the beta, not my new 5a as an option.
Does Google need to flip a switch or something to activate the 5a on their servers? Phones comes with the June security patch, and running system update doesn't find the latest update. And this phone is not on the Android beta 12 program yet, doesn't show up.
Wake up Google.
It looks like the 5a isn't supported yet which is a bummer.
I think they are looking at the overheating problem BEFORE they allow any BETA access. If you're running a BETA and the phone overheats it will be much harder to determine the actual cause. Better to fix it properly 1st.

The first stable version of Android 12 for Pixel phones has not been released yet. On Oct. 4 they released Android 12 for AOSP, but not for Pixel phones. Google said, on October 4, that the release for Pixels would be in a "few weeks'. So it should be coming soon.
I believe they may launch android 12 today with the introduction of the new Pixel 6 series

I don't use motion sense at all. And I fly about 150 legs a year, and as of right now obviously, I'm constantly wearing a damn mask, so face unlock has gotten to be a pain in the ass. I'm really looking forward to having a fingerprint again.
