Final Android 12 update - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

Has anyone else not been able to update to the final release of Android 12 from the Beta? My understanding was it was released a few weeks ago but I am still showing updated when I check. Hopefully it's obvious by the forum but it's a Pixel 4 XL. Any help is appreciated.

Hey, I am not on the beta program and I didn't get android 12 yet, still android 11 with October security patch on my Google Pixel 4 XL.

The first stable version of Android 12 for Pixel phones has not been released yet. On Oct. 4 they released Android 12 for AOSP, but not for Pixel phones. Google said, on October 4, that the release for Pixels would be in a "few weeks'. So it should be coming soon.

I believe they may launch android 12 today with the introduction of the new Pixel 6 series

Thanks for the heads up. I did a ton of google searching but couldn't find a damn thing. I guess it won't matter much after today anyway when I order my 6 Pro, lol. Thanks for the quick reply, very much appreciated.

Pixel 6 pro seems to be a very good phone, though I am not going back from Motion Sense gestures and face unlock from my Pixel 4 XL.

One of the recent leaks suggested that the Pro version would have both in display fingerprint and face unlock. I guess we'll find out today if it's true. Not sure about Motion Sense though.

I don't use motion sense at all. And I fly about 150 legs a year, and as of right now obviously, I'm constantly wearing a damn mask, so face unlock has gotten to be a pain in the ass. I'm really looking forward to having a fingerprint again.

Well in your case it don't seem it don't to be very useful. I use motion sense every day for music and I am planning to unlock the bootloader and use an app to create more custom gestures for motion sense. Also, as I enjoy cooking this is very handy as I usually have dirty fingers

Be careful as this is untested!! So make a backup before trying and let us know please!

Yes. Stable Magisk 23.0 works just fine, just as it has on all the betas.

Thanks it worked just need to figure out how to pass safetynet CTSprofile failing
Magiskhide not work =(

My pixel 4xl won't update the factory image in fastboot. The command fails in the last step.

Official Android 7

Would we ever seen a Official Android 7 Miui?
not likely and I don't think they are caring about mi mix atm
Remain waiting, there is a big chance it will get an upgrade in upcoming months.

of course, there is a change in the next months, I mean come on seriously?
the other dev will likely be getting their hand of android o and miui just trying to get miui9 ext its ****ed up system going down there
but their products are amazing just if they release the sources of the devices and everything gonna be just fine
then we can get whatever we want
MIUI is already far ahead of stock Android IMO, just look at all features we have and stock Android doesn't have.... Except Multi window for now.
Not working wallpaper carousel and not a proper working push notifications
But the other useless things yeah they have something going with uselesles
Btw I don't screw with MIUI yeah they are good but I just need a good notifications that's all I sent need anything I'm a simple man
The works on nougat on mi 5 is still beta dev rom. I tried and fairly stable except a few minor error. At least until nougat for mi 5 is stable then we can see about mi mix
Probably MiMix will not receive N
http://en.miui.com/thread-562495-1-1.html
dun need android 7 for multi windows... samsung and LG already done it since android 4.. is see whether miui developer want to add or not
Do not hold your breath waiting for android 7 in MIX from xiaomi
Better try this rom

$1000 Phone no update ?? good joke!
No need for android 7 for me, 6 it's working fine till exposed it's official of course.
Nougat isn't limited only for Multi Windows, there are a lot of new APIs (for example, Vulkan)
It will come, had it on the Mate 9 and Honor 8 ... its not that good over 6.0 ... just wait and it will arrive.
The only thing I really miss from my pixel, and Android 7 in general, is expandable notifications. Makes everything else seem ancient.

The only nougat features I want are expandable notifications and double tap to switch between last 2 apps. But I have a grim feeling that these features won't make their way over to nougat based MIUI.

Which version of the stable international officiating ROM are you guys using? My phone came with the 8.2.19.0.0, and the latest one I see on Xiaomi page is 8.2.1, which I downloaded to "update", but the system tells me it's older than the installed one...
The thing is, the current one is the same that came with the phone when I bought, around Feb. 20, in Thailand. And the latest stable was released at some point in March. And I just can't find anything online about that .19 version, just one mention in some western European language, in one single post in one forum...
Any ideas?

How is the state of the OnePlus 3T right now?

Hello, I've been an Android user from a while and decided to upgrade from my Nexus 5 to the OnePlus 3T. The only thing I'm concerned is not having the Google Android version since I'm very fond of how good it is, but in October 31st, Nexus 5 will be 4 years older and although Google isn't still talking of stop working on the software side of it it is probably going to happen eventually.
With all that said, I'm trying to learn beforehand (my phone arrives in 10 days) if are there any lag problems, if people are using any specific ROMs that work better with it and anything that could be quality of life improvements that I could do once it arrives.
Thank you

The Nexus 5 is already discontinued when it comes to official software updates. It will only get security patches and even that won't be for long. (In fact it's latest factory image is from December 2016 so it might've fully stopped already.)
As for the Oneplus 3T, it's currently running the latest 7.1.1, latest security patch and the Oneplus skin (OxygenOS) is basically stock Android on steroids. I'm running the fully stock beta 4 version and the phone is extremely fast and smooth, battery is great. It's good to the point where I haven't even felt the need to unlock the bootloader and root yet. You definitely won't be disappointed in your purchase.
I recently (last week) replaced my 2 year old Nexus 6 with a OnePlus 3T and had the same concerns as you. Would I enjoy another OEM's version of Android? I was even running a really bare bones Vanilla AOSP ROM by the end and loved it.
I don't regret changing at all thus far.
I'm on OxygenOS 4.1.1 with Franco Kernel and Magisk v12 and it's working beautifully! I figured I'm gonna run OOS for a while before seeing if there's any nice ROMs available. I've been looking around a little, but not many of the available ROMs seems worth it (I don't want CM, Lineage or anything pre-rooted).

Ah, that's so good to hear! This is exactly what I was expecting. Yeah, Nexus 5 had an extremely good run and until the beginning of this year I felt it was still so good as far apps go, but anything web related started being more and more painful. It is still a pretty good phone and I'll keep around for Android dev related things.
Now I'm pumped for the 13th.
Thanks

OOS is as close as you can get (factory OS) to "pure" Android unless you buy a Nexus or Pixel (and the latter will of course cost you). Many are calling the OP3T a spiritual successor of the Nexus series.
There are just a few OnePlus versions of apps (music player, file manager, weather) that many folks will find useless (you probably have your preferred options). And a OnePlus launcher.
But beyond that, there are a few modifications many will see as value added: The OnePlus camera app is really nice (great options in Manual mode). There are lots of settings which let you tweak and customize in (my opinion) really useful ways.

I flash Franco Kernel because I have great experiences with it from my Nexus 6. Ran without for a few days, but realised I missed it...
I install Magisk because I want root and for a few nice systemless modifications. Currently: changing screen density, debloating system apps and Viper4Android.

I see. I never used a launcher (except the Google Now, not sure if that is even considered a launcher itself, and hopefully it is a feature in every Android phone, not just Google ones), ideally, I think I would want to get rid of that, if possible. The File Manager might be helpful, although I use one I like, perhaps theirs is a good one. No biggie, though.

Google Now is a launcher (AKA home app). It's not pre-installed, but you can easily install it from the Play Store.
I don't think you can disable or uninstall the OnePlus launcher on a stock OP3T ("disable" is grayed out), but you certainly can with root (may want to freeze it before uninstalling, and make sure it doesn't break anything else). But I also doubt it would make any significant difference, compared to simply installing Google Now launcher, and making it the default home app.

Haven't used it much, it does the basic functions (move/copy files, looks like it can open archives like ZIP) but doesn't look like anything special. If you use one that has more features (particularly root browsing) you'll probably prefer what you already use.

Any hope for OneUI 2.5?

Hey guys,
Anyone got any hope or info if OneUI 2.5 is going to come to our beloved Note9? Samsung mentioning that third-party gestures would be fixed in 2.5 in early 2020 and also the fact that there are hidden experimental OneUI 2.5 Gallery features (you can unlock them by going to About Gallery inside the app and tapping the build number 7 times, then a new settings section will come up) makes me wonder if there's a chance. I just wish & hope that the Note9 would end its support on OneUI 2.5 as a Christmas present for us After all the S9 and S9+ got OneUI 2.1 even though their 2 year support cycle expired before that.
August 5th!

I think it will get one ui 2.5 if it is a separate roll out.
if it is rolled out with android 11 then it becomes doubtful.

It will definitely be on Android 10. OneUI 3.0 is coming with Android 11 next year but since the Note20 etc will have OneUI 2.5 it's 100% on Android 10 as we're months away from the official Android 11 from Google.

Yeah, not sure why, but AT&T was really asleep at the trigger this time - I just got mine two nights ago!
I wouldn't hold out hope for it. Even though the Note 9 is hands down the best, its simply old in terms of phone years.
It may be rough to hear, but we've seen the last of updates like 2.1 .
If we do, we will get a watered down version with some features missing... It will also be a while as it has to trickle down through from the 20 series, through the 10 series to finally dribble onto our Note 9's and S9's...
If we get it, it won't be until after the new year...

Question How to enroll my 5a in the Android 12 beta?

Got home tonight and my new phone and case were waiting for me
Curious how do I enroll this phone in the Android 12 beta? I checked the Google beta page, and it only showed my old Pixel 4 XL on the list, which is already on the beta, not my new 5a as an option.
Does Google need to flip a switch or something to activate the 5a on their servers? Phones comes with the June security patch, and running system update doesn't find the latest update. And this phone is not on the Android beta 12 program yet, doesn't show up.
Wake up Google.
It looks like the 5a isn't supported yet which is a bummer.
I think they are looking at the overheating problem BEFORE they allow any BETA access. If you're running a BETA and the phone overheats it will be much harder to determine the actual cause. Better to fix it properly 1st.

I think something will come because of Oneplus phones are easy to root, unlock and not that muc harder to make some custom stuff, but I am not developer, just guessing. Also, Oneplus hasn't released needed drivers etc. yet. Anyway I heard Lineage OS has started to be developed for this device, so we need to wait.

Daylight and Night mode pics are great.
Some redness seen on face color some times.
Low light pics needs improvement and slow motion is worst quality.
