Any hope for OneUI 2.5? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
Anyone got any hope or info if OneUI 2.5 is going to come to our beloved Note9? Samsung mentioning that third-party gestures would be fixed in 2.5 in early 2020 and also the fact that there are hidden experimental OneUI 2.5 Gallery features (you can unlock them by going to About Gallery inside the app and tapping the build number 7 times, then a new settings section will come up) makes me wonder if there's a chance. I just wish & hope that the Note9 would end its support on OneUI 2.5 as a Christmas present for us After all the S9 and S9+ got OneUI 2.1 even though their 2 year support cycle expired before that.

I think it will get one ui 2.5 if it is a separate roll out.
if it is rolled out with android 11 then it becomes doubtful.

It will definitely be on Android 10. OneUI 3.0 is coming with Android 11 next year but since the Note20 etc will have OneUI 2.5 it's 100% on Android 10 as we're months away from the official Android 11 from Google.

yes looking at samsungs track record they always launch their note series with older android versions ... so yeah it will be on android 10 ... so i think there is like a 70% chance that we will get it most probably.

I'm just getting one ui 2.1 right now downloading as we speak.

Yeah, not sure why, but AT&T was really asleep at the trigger this time - I just got mine two nights ago!

I wouldn't hold out hope for it. Even though the Note 9 is hands down the best, its simply old in terms of phone years.
It may be rough to hear, but we've seen the last of updates like 2.1 .

If we do, we will get a watered down version with some features missing... It will also be a while as it has to trickle down through from the 20 series, through the 10 series to finally dribble onto our Note 9's and S9's...
If we get it, it won't be until after the new year...

Some news: https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-galaxy-note-9-s9-eligible-one-ui-2-5-update/

yes there is hope...https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-phones-one-ui-2-5-list

Since S20 is already receiving it, S10/N10 will probably get it with the September update. October for us would be optimistic.
Nevertheless, that was not expected at all.

I guess my Christmas wish would come true lol

The differemce in android built!

Samsung galaxy A5 being expensive midranger doesn't got full amdroid marshmallow support! It was upgraded from kitkat to lollipop with some changes but marshamllow upgrade didn't changed anything except Android Version and API level.
Being cheap and lower in specs wise Galaxy J5 got all the Marshmallow feature. It has got theme support, newer notification panel etc. Which galaxy A5 lacks!! What is the reason behind it??
To sell newer devices obviously.
Well, look on the bright side, A5 will eventually get 7.0, while J5 won't.

Yes that may be an marketing strategy to sell newer device!
They have around 30 devices floating around from the last 3 years. The Galaxy S5 for example did not get updated to the newest Touchwiz version although receiving the update to marshmallow. It's a marketing thing for sure but as the average user won't care too much about the UI it's just not worth the hassle to port newest Touchwiz to outdated devices.

It will. I wonder how long it will take Samsung to realise they need to step up their update game. Waiting for an update for a whole year to come - not cool. Only receiving one, max. 2 software updates at all - not cool either. If they really want to beat Apple in the future they need to proof they can handle updates well.

Android 8

So no news about Android 8 to note 8?
Google will moe to 8.1 to pixels and in March they'll have beta to p, that's always the same problem with Samsung phones
Oreo beta will be out soon. First week next month or even this month. And the reason why it takes so much time for Samsung is because they have A LOT more software modifications and features that AOSP phones don't have. Recently I saw news that some AOSP Lenovo phone will get Oreo but next year! 2018Q2. So Samsung is pretty quick if You think about it. And Google released Oreo source just like 1.5 month ago. And in 1.5 month after source release we get beta. So it's extremely quick.

Not excited about 8.0 oreo but wants to know what Samsung will add to it... Something excited... Maybe
Have Oreo on our Nexus 6P. I don't see any difference between it and my Note 8, but I haven't gone looking for anything either. I just set the 6P up from a full factory reset for my wife. She wants to give it a try before possibly getting a Pixel 2. Seemed like the same experience as I'm used to to set it up.
What I found when I used the 6P was that being on the bleeding edge of major updates was not always a good thing. They were usually somewhat buggy, normally showing up as apps that became battery drainers under the new level, until their developers fixed them. It got to the point where I would not take a release until it had been out for a few months. Google uses the first adopters as Beta testers, IMO.
If an Oreo beta does come. Is it possible for me to sign up for the beta program so I can use it? I was in blackberry's android beta and bb10 beta program for so long.
Yeah I would like to know how to sign up for the beta program
TBH, not too bothered about Oreo since I don't think it'll add much to the already awesome Note 8 feature set.
My beef is with the slow rollout of security updates, waiting 2 months or more is IMHO a dereliction of duty on Samsung's part.
I remember the nougat beta on the S7 for the Samsung. Wondering if there will be something similar for the N8.

Project Treble and Note9

Should we expect Android 9 to come to the Note9 faster than previous updates on notes due to project Treble? Is that thing actually doing anything? The Note8 took FOREVER to get Oreo. Was that a Project Treble phone too? If so, I guess I should anticipate waiting until like February/March again, which is a shame for a flagship phone like this. I'd be pleased if it was out before 2019 begins. That's more than enough time I think.
What do you guys think?

Exactly, 8.1 has been out six months or so and I thought treble would make those smaller updates more timely.
Dont expect update on this for a while. One of the reason why im holding on this phone. Samsung extradegy is always release their new flaship with the updated OS while leaving other phone behind. We wont see android pie on the note 9 until after the GS10 release in march (or so) with pie include has the new OS. Samsung will just release security patches every 2 or 3 month until this.

Somewhere in that neighborhood, yeah. It would be cool if the same happened on the Note9!
treble might provides updates a bit faster but I have had the galaxy s3, s5, s7e,s8 and now note 9 and updates were always very late and I think it would always be like that. maybe faster with treble but won't ever get updates as fast as others and we are going to wait months but I am sure no one has bought the note 9 or samsung phones for the fast updates ^^
After all the hulalbaloos and deep dives, lately I've been pronouncing it as "project trouble" for Galaxy flagships.
Working Pie GSI Rom for S9+
Since the hardware is exactly the same, will it work with Note 9?

i have stopped myself from getting samsung since years ago due to the poor software updates. And i do not expect note 9 to be faster than any predecessors. i would still be alright if note 9 will never get Android Pie till 2020 (or neveR). Thats samsung and people should have expected that. Reasons i got myself the device was due to the 5 pillars of smartphone which Note9 did well, go watch the video by mkbhd.
This is really good news! Already, there is a Pie version of S9+ with Samsung Experience 10! It may be in its infant stages, but as the article mentions, that's at least a couple months faster than the last cycle (to Oreo), and this seems like a larger update.

I'm pretty sure that last year the registration for the S8 Beta program began the first week of November and the first official beta release was just after that (I think around the 5 November or something like that).
Here, we have just a leaked firmware, around 1 month earlier than last week official beta. So don't get too excited.
Edit : I did a quick search and I find that the second beta firmware was released on the 10th of November last year.
https://www.google.fr/amp/s/www.sam...-android-8-0-oreo-beta-firmware-released/amp/
So, I really doubt things will be quicker this year.
Well if the Pie update is indeed released in January, then that would be a pretty big improvement in my world (especially with how much more significant of an update this is)! Project Treble for the win?

Android 10 Final Update?

Hi! I'm seriously considering buying a refurbished Note 9 but noticed that Android 10 would be its second OS update after just 1 year and 4 months. Samsung's update policy is 2 OS updates with at least 3 years of security updates, does this mean Note 9 won't be updated to Android 11? This would be pretty bad if true. Just looking for someone to clear this up. Thanks.

not sure what youre talking about. the note 9 has had constant updates all year on both the U and the F versions. To double check historical updates, you can look on sammobile.com/firmwares to see the last few releases. sammobile is pretty decent about keeping historical device links active.
Here is the link to the F version and there is a selector for the different variants as well right above the download links

I mentioned OS updates a.k.a Android version updates not security updates. Note 9 launched with Android 8.1, received Android 9 last year and Android 10 this year. That's 2 version updates already which is usually Samsung's limit (3 years of security updates not not withstanding). Note 9 based on past flagships shouldn't receive Android 11.

oh, you mean the separate versions of Android. You said updates, and they are starkly different things. Also, even within the Android "version" are releases which are also "Android version updates". Not trying to split hairs, rather clarify and help avoid people answering the question you asked vs the one you meant to ask.
So, the answer to that is very unlikely. Android releases are just a hair faster than the phone hardware releases and ive never seen more than 2 years of support on any phone, much less a Samsung one. Check my sig for currently owned Samsung phones.
Well you could see the history repeating it self, in this case we have note 8 wgich didn't get android 10, so i gues this will be the same with note9 when android 11 comes.

Android 13 is here

I went to the sammobile page every day like clockwork for all of November. Was doing the same for December and finally saw it.
It didn't pop up until TODAY, December 7th, 2022, despite being labeled November 29th, 2022.
But its here. Interest in this device seemed to evaporate with Android 11, so I have no idea if Android 12 or 13 can be rooted at all. Unless a clear answer to that, and if the old rooting technique will work, and if magisk can still be used or if some sort of alternative is necessary, guess I'll stick to 10.
But for the handful that still have the phone and don't root, Android 13 is finally here.
On this phone I would stay on 9 or 10. Android 13 is so far worse than 12 and many have rolled back to 11 from 12. CPU cycle sucking scoped storage is active from 11 up with more security garbage piled into 12, think 13 will be any better?
Or more of the same crap?
I'm not buying the Google hype, both Google and Samsung are on a 3 year losing streak of bad choices and products. Obviously you can upgrade at any time; let Mikey try it first
Can someone provide changelog please ?

I actually stayed on 10 with this phone, since I was unsure if I upgraded if the same root method would still work.
But I've been following the updates out of morbid curiosity + the longshot hope someone would be brave enough to try with a more current (11 and up) iteration of Android. Alas.

I have two N10+'s one running on 9, the newer on 10. Very unlikely either will ever be upgraded.
The Pie one seems to run best and is easier to work with. Current load is 3 yo now, still fast and stable; no way I'm messing with that.
Personally I wouldn't upgrade past 10 as you will lose more than you gain. Both 9 and 10 are secure unless you do stupid things.
Less downtime means more playtime...
