Verizon Moto Mod Case Review - Moto Z Play Accessories

Here's my review of the Verizon case over in the Moto Z Force forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z-force/accessories/verizon-moto-mod-case-review-t3480948

I didn't know that in order to turbo charge work perfectly the cable should be usb-c to usb-c. I bought recently an extra turbo charger for the Moto Z Play, but it must be for the Moto Maxx because it's a travel charger, with a spot to plug a usb 2.0 or 3.0 cable, not a usb-c, and when I plugged the phone, it wouldn't charge the Moto Z Play in turbo mode (and I think it never will) =(
I'll look further into it and see which chargers fit the Moto Z Play for the proper turbo chage.
By the way, it's amazing to know there's a turbo charge for cars, I thought Turbo charging worked only for wall adapters.

Qi Wireless Charging not Working

I have the Nexus wireless charging pad that works great on several phones, tablets, and my Moto 360. For whatever reason it will not charge the turbo. No matter where I place the phone on the charging pad, the charger is not detected. The Nexus charging pad has magnets and I can feel it pull the phone to the pad, but still no charge. .. Any ideas?

The TYLT brand Vu charger is absolutely great. 50 bucks and it charges really fast. I think right now its the fastest wireless charger available on the market. the charging speed sits right between a traditional charger and the turbo charger. Cant go wrong with that!

mine does not work either
Nokia wireless chargers work great also
FYI, I've experienced the same issue. Nexus charger with magnets and the "microsuction" base doesn't charge, however my Nexus charging orb (the one that came out with the Nexus 4) DOES work just fine
Confirmed. Not compatible with my Nexus branded Qi charging puck. Kevlar DT.
As Qi is a standard, should there be any warranty/legal standing for fix/replace of either the phone or charger?
my XT1225 Moto Maxx, same phone, same hardware works just fine with 4 different Qi charger brands.
However on one -- an orb -- I find I have to move the phone so the orb is on the lower 1/3 bottom of the phone, almost the bottom 1/4 of the phone before it "finds" the Qi charger. On the others it's the halfway mark of the phone.
I can't speak to that specific charger, but I've found that the turbo has a very small wireless charge zone, you have to be dead on for it to work. Love the phone though!
I have a energizer dual wireless charger, works great with my nexus 5, turbo... Not so much. It'll start charging, then after a couple seconds it stops. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

[Q] iPad Air Charger for the Moto G?

I ordered the Moto G as a gift for my sister. The only USB charger she has is the one that came with her iPad Air. Will that one by OK for the Moto G? It is over 2A (2.4A I think) and I read somewhere that Apple doesn't follow the USB charging standards.
If anybody tried the Moto G with the ipad charger please let me know!
Thanks

I tried at my brother's home and it works
Thanks! How fast does it charge? I read somewhere that it could charge with just 0.5A (so really slow) even though the charger is over 2A, is this true?
So, does the iPad charger charge the Moto G at a good speed?
@2014 yes it should charge quickily
Thanks. She tried it and she said the ipad charger charged the Moto G in about 1 hour, which seems fine.
I have a generic 2.1a charger see pics... 1 h 14 min to full from 25%
according to motorola moto g can only use 1,5a max... even if the charger has more power it does not use all...
I thought the device would heat more using this 2.1a charger, but not the same as the 500mA or 850mA... my came with a 850ma charger...

Technically, the phone will automatically reduce the voltage and Ampe it receive. So just plug it in your phone and it does the rest for you.
I have so many chargers in my house, HP Touchpad, Motorla X910, Moto G, amazon 9w2A etc...
just plug into the Hp touchpad or amazon if I wanna charge fast. And the other which isn't in hurry
totally safe ! Unless you intend to use with while charging and the over-heat may cause a problem

Suggest me a charger for my new moto x(1st gen)

Hi all,
I am from India and i just brought a new moto x(1st gen). I dont get a charger with the box. please anybody suggest me a gud charger. is our moto x supports turbo charging ???
You mention both 1st gen and 2nd Gen in your post. Which phone are you looking to get a charger for?
The 1st Gen (aka 2013) Moto X ships with a 1.15A (aka 1150mA) charger. Neither the phone, nor the charger support Turbo Charging. Standard 1A (aka 1000mA) or higher chargers with MicroUSB ends will work to charge it.
I don't have a 2nd Gen (2014) Moto X. But it and its included charger DO support turbo charging. As far as I know, you need a special charger that is compatible with Turbo charging if you want to make use of that feature. But standard 1A (1000mA) and up chargers will work to charge it at "regular" rates.
aside from the fact that we dont yet know which model you have to give you avalid answer this post belongs into the Q&A section
I've seen variation in charge times...
When i use a 1.2 Amp charger ... i can go from 10% to fully charged in ~1 hour . I have a Moto X (XT1053)
My partner has model : XT1052, and it doesn't charge as quickly - I'm not sure if it is because it is the wrong voltage (European model phone). i think Fast charge can be turned on or off at kernel level. Not sure about this however.
I think he is talking about the moto x 1st gen from flipkart which is available for Rs 18000 but without the adapter

If by "fast charge" you mean "turbo charge" like on the new X, that is a function of the new Qualcomm chip used in the 2nd Gen X. See -> https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/quick-charge
As for the XT1053 vs XT1052 charging speed, they both take 5 Volt input which is standard for USB ports and MicroUSB chargers. The speed difference you are seeing could be due to the current supplied by the adapters (i.e. if your adapter is 1.2A and your partner uses a 750mA), OR if there are different apps running on the phone while charging. Example, if Google Maps/Navigation is running on the phone, it will charger slower than if GMaps/Navigation wasn't running.

I've found that some cables will not let the full current through that the charger is rated for. In not sure if it's due to voltage drop our what though, as I don't care enough to dig into it further.

charger (Car, mains) that trigger turbo power connected?

I see no official car charger is out for the z play and its only the hard wired mains charger that came in the box.
does anyone have any good car chargers and mains chargers that charge with "turbo power"?

Try that
seems many of the chinese ones cause issues such as car fuses blowing and such.
not good, the usb c situation is a right mess at the moment.
Aukey CC-T7 & Cable matters USB type C on both ends cable, tested and guaranteed, turbo charging in the car.
I've had this one in two cars for over a year without a problem, first for my Nexus 5x and now for the Moto Z Play. I have Benson-approved USB A->C cables for charging.
Contrary to come of Motos other phones, the Z Play charges using the generic amperage method (like the Nexus 5x) instead of proprietary voltage methods like Samsung and other Motos use. That means that anytime you hook up the phone to something that puts out more than the standard 1A, you'll charge faster. I have a 2A charger, and when I plug the Moto into it, it charges faster than with 1A but not as fast with 3A (obviously). The stock charger puts out 3A. I've used the old Nexus 5x charger, and it charges the same as with the stock charger since it's also 3A.

I tried my previous Aukey 30 watt dual USB quick charge charger with 2 different type A to type C cables and couldn't get turbo charging to engage at all. However my Moto X turbo charged just fine with that setup as well as my friends Moto Z Force. Guessing it's all in the cables, but the setup I listed with the Aukey type C port and a dual type C cable does the trick perfectly.
For what it's worth, the iMuto power banks with the type C port will also engage the turbo charge function

It likely wasn't the cable. If you were trying to use a quick charger, then it's not going to fast charge the MZP. As I mentioned, the MZP uses amperage-based, not voltage-based fast charging. E.g. if you take a look at the output on a quick charger, it's going to show nearly the same amperage (see first example below). A unique thing about the MZP and all other USB C phones from Moto, if you hook it up to even to 2A charger, you can see it tell you that it's turbo charging. It still won't charge as fast as if you hook it up to a 3A or higher charger, like the second one below.
Here is the charger that works e.g. with the Moto X. It does not fast charge the MZP. This is also commonly referred to as quick charge.
Standard: 5V / 1.67A (8W)
TurboPower: 9V / 1.67A (15W)
TurboPower: 12V / 1.2A (15W)

Here is the output for a charger that Moto sells that works with the USB C devices.
5V / up to 5.7A under control of Power Delivery compatible device

I hope your comparison is just for example purposes, as the two phones and their respective chargers are incompatible with each other.
As for the 30 watt charger for the Z & Z Force, it gives ZERO benefit to the Z Play and doesn't give any additional quick charging. This has been tested and proven to be of no benefit to us Z Play owners.
Also, hooking up my device to any 2A charger, Stock Samsung, my in wall USB outlets, Apple, or my old Aukey quick charger, the power ports of the imuto or my other 2 power banks with a 2.4A output, DOES NOT ENGAGE TURBO CHARGING! This has been confirmed with the normal charging toast message, as well as in ampre. The info you said is incorrect.
Also attaching screenshots of the following, stock charger, Imuto power bank, the Aukey car charger I've listed, and the 2.4A Samsung charger with the A to C cable. You'll notice that in all instances where type C to C is used, turbo is engaged. Whereas with type A to C with a 2.4A charger charges normal.
Also, I'm very aware of how my Moto X and most of my friends quickcharge capable devices charge. The info is actually listed on the charger.

Don't know what to tell you. Attached is a screenshot after plugging my phone into a 2A wall charger just now (A to C). Other than that, I've used the original N5x (C to C) and the aforementioned 4.8A car charger (A to C), both of which triggered the same turbo toast message. Even my XPS 13 triggers the turbo charging toast message when I plug the phone into it (A to C).
EDIT
I also tried the Ampere app after seeing your screenshots. I wasn't aware of that app. Same result. Confirmed turbo in the situations I specified above.
By the way, I apologize if I came across rude. I didn't mean to and was trying to be helpful.
Welp, maybe your device is a little more forgiving. All I can say is that my device, will not engage turbo charging without a C to C or OEM charger. I tried both the A to C cables I own, one was a standard, one was USB 3.0, and neither will engage turbo off of any 2.0~2.4A chargers.
The info I've sourced was also shown on another Android forum where they did tons of checking of different chargers, OEM and other such with different amperage amounts and using Ampere. Google searching for Moto Z Play Quick charging should find it in the first few results if you're up for a read.

The Aukey CC-Y1 is what that should have said. Sorry about that, T7 was what I used with my Moto X Pure.
This is the correct charger, Y1, NOT THE T7.
So to confirm, you got turbocharge using the top type c port, but not the bottom type a QC3.0 port?

Correct. Type C to Type C
Moto Z Play is a lot like Nexus 5x/6P/Pixel when it comes to charging. It doesn't support Qualcomm quick charge 3.0. Moto's Turbpower tech is apparently just another name for USB Power Delivery (PD). From my experience with Nexus 6p, you need a charger with a usb c port and proper usb c cable (with C type socket on both ends).
I've seen posts confirming this.
Be sure to check if the wall charger, the cable or the power bank you plan to buy supports USB PD and has a usb c port capable of outputting 3A. Not every usb c cable is capable of usb c power delivery.
Also usb pd means you can Turbopower-charge your Moto Z with type c laptop chargers, including Apple macbook chargers.

quick charge?

Hello, I have a quick question. Does this phone support Qualcomm quick charge? I'm about to buy a new charger but can't find this information anywhere. I only found that the turbopower charger is also compatible with the quickcharge technology, but no information about the phone
No, this phone is Moto Turbo Charge, which isn't the same as QuickCharge. However, I bought several QuickCharge chargers when I had a Motorola Nexus 6, and all of those chargers activate Turbo Charge on my Moto G5S Plus. Even my QC battery bank activates Turbo Charge.
I have more than one Anker charger that has QC that will activate Turbo Charge on my Moto G5S Plus.
Motorola turbo charge is compatible with Qualcomm QC chargers.
Thanks everyone you solved all my doubts. I'll get a QC charger as spare then
