My second TP went dead and there symptoms are exactly same as the first. There is a black patch on the screen and it doesn't charger or power on. Here is a picture:

When this happened to my first one, I presumed that one of my kids did something nasty and threw it away. This time, it was in my care and it just developed the patch, sort of like overnight. The previous day, it had trouble charging and turning on, so I left it to charge overnight. When I put it in the charger, the LEDs were blinking fast, like the battery was way low. In the morning, it already had this patch and it was not powering on.
It is very strange that this would happen twice, so thought of asking around before throwing it away.

Is it possible that the battery bulged and pushing on the screen? The shape, size and location of the patch are exactly same as before, so I am suspecting that it is something caused from with in. Besides, as I already said, this happened overnight when there was no chance of something putting pressure from outside.

I noticed today that the display got pushed up so much that it started separating. It is a sure indication that the culprit is the battery bulging and pushing from inside.

It is the battery. I have had this happen on one Touchpad that I have had since new and I couldn't get it to come back on. Another that I bought through shop goodwill had the same issue, but I put it on my touchstone and it recharged and the bulge went away as the battery charged. I am fairly confident that replacing the battery will remedy the issue; I just can't find a battery cheaper than around $40 new. Can't justify that when I can find these tablets for $25 or cheaper...

Thanks for confirming! You are right, I don't notice that the batteries are pretty expensive. There is no point in trying to repair it, especially that it is considered hard.

Grab some guitar picks, a 'splunger' and a tiny (#0) Phillips head screwdriver and have at it.
It's not too difficult. The guitar picks keep the case separated as you go around it with the splunger.
If it is swollen from battery bulge, go slow when opening the case, there is a lot of stress on the connectors.
The first one I did that had battery bulge - I broke all the clips. I had approached like I did all my other repairs - oops.
Where are you all finding the low priced batteries? I haven't seen any for awhile.
Dang, I wish I could stumble across one at a thrift store
I charged my TouchPad fully after not using it for several years and was amazed to see that it's still working perfectly!
It's still running CyanogenMod 10 (android 4.1.2). Startup animation and graphics look amazing even in 2018. I think I last booted it 3 years ago. Thanks CM team!
BUT - there is an hourglass shaped spot under the LCD screen that is new, and a HUGE BATTERY BULGE - bending the screen and frame. But everything is working perfectly.
Hmmm..... I wonder if it's safe to use!
I could replace the battery on it and put android 7, etc. But I just powered this on to see if it worked, and didn't want to invest further.
Surprisingly, someone here (on a closed thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hp-touchpad/general/battery-warning-t3540780) suggested puncturing the battery with a needle and squeezing the air out, which may or may not release toxic fumes. The price is right, so I may try that - outdoors, before deciding to order a new battery (or just recycling it).
Think it's safe to use as is with the big bulge?

Hi,
I got my 1340mah battery today and thought about making some pics to compare both batteries and back covers.
First of all, GPS receiving is just as good as with the original cover.
The new back cover isnt glossy anymore. I didn't clean my original back cover to show what the biiiiig plus for the new cover is.

Compared from the front
Here you can see that the new back cover is about 2,5mm thicker than the old one.
And this is what the phone looks like with the new back cover
I am up to some battery conditioning the next days and then hope that I will get 50% more battery life. Would make sense, though.
Let us know how long the battery life is!
Very nice pics. Thanks.
Does any e-store sells only the back 'non-glossy' cover?
Nice shots, thanks
How is the camera thru the deeper back cover?
Are there any cases or other protections devices that fit Diamond with bigger battery?
Have not seen any yet?
Camera Quality is about the same though the camera opening is bigger now. I will post my experiences with the battery life here when I unloaded and reloaded it some times. With 900mah battery and 15-20min phone, some sms and some playing around a day I got about 2,5 days with shutting the phone off at night. I expect about four days lifetime now and I would be very satisfied with this.
Where did you buy the battery and the case?
lets hope they make a ignito version!
yea dude..let us know where ya bought the battery and case!
I am from germany and they are available here now. I got it from cyberport.de for about 32 Euros including shipping.
very nice, is this htc pro original battery or another one?
You can get them from expansys in your country. Look for BP E270.
They really are good. It feels like a lot more than 50% extra power too - it's tough to make it go flat now, lol. For me the biggest plus is to be able to take it out all weekend and it makes the distance. The little bit extra size on the cover is nothing much at the end of the day and you get used to it quickly. Also as pointed out the material feels much better and doesn't leave prints everywhere.
Single best additional purchase I've made for my Diamond and I recommend it to all!

Oh yes it is. This third party batteries are real crap, they double the size of your phone and it's NOT possible to receive any GPS signal with these. Forget that crap.
And yes, this 1340mah is the original HTC battery - no problems with GPS
It's really tough to get the battery dead now, wasnt able to get it to shut off automatically yesterday evening, I got the battery very weak message and left GPS on, half an hour later I decided to go to bed and load it anyways because it didnt shut off from itself.
And about the weight? Is the difference noticeable?
well others say its noticeable... don't know maybe 20 grams?
would the non-gps 1800mah batter fit into this htc cover?
or any other ultra powerfull non-htc batter?
i really like the cover, but it can still be much better, there's still wasted space
I just got an extended 1800mah battery yesterday and as mentioned GPS is not available when using 1800mah battery, the signal seem to be not available with the 1800mah battery.
After I observe and try, i notice that the original 900mah battery can lost the signal too when we take off the back cover (you can see the signal drop in the GPS signal page) but when I put back the back cover the signal seem to be recovered. So conclusion is there must be something stick to the original back cover to enhance the signal reception strength for the GPS data. So I need some expert to help to solve the problem. I just wonder if we can just stick a piece of similar material in the 1800mah back cover and that will make the 1800mah battery function close to perfect (except the size).
Greattttt
Thanks fBx.. Very nice images and greaattt comparison.
I would like to know, do you feel battery life is increased by 50%?
Thanks a lot
I've had my Athena nearly 2 years now, with daily hard use. I'm surprised the factory battery has lasted this long, but I've noticed over the last month or two that it was going downhill quickly. In the last week it has finally fallen off a cliff - it will say 100% charge but 5-10 minutes of web surfing and it will just shut off, no warning.
Time for a new battery. I'm sure some of you are due for one, too.
I looked around the net and I see 2 or 3 shops selling a battery for about US$20, and in one case they even claim its a smaller (capacity) battery than the factory one. Plus shipping. Ouch. So, I found a supplier on Ebay that was advertising them for under US$10 - with free shipping and the same capacity as the factory battery. I ordered 2 and I'll post later to let you know how they seem to hold up.
Anyone else find a good source?
Hi
I must say I've already had the same problem and am now quite happy with an ebay battery. seems not really worse than the htc one. There is one disadvantage, though. The pin that holds the battery in place breaks usually after one,two months of usage. Recently I had to make a replacement one using a copper wire - works pretty well.
I'll be sure to keep the pin from the original battery in case this happens.
Hi there ,
Try pm asking bradaland from usa , he seems to get a few advantage batteries at a very good deal in usa . But make sure those pins you are talking about is made of steel and not black plastic - some manufacturers produced oem batteries with plastic pins - it will break after a few times you slot in and out the battery , watch out ! Thks for reading - cheers - jimmunsw
Anyone notice the battery door will not fit (slight bulge in the middle of the door) with after market batteries? Even making sure the pin is locked into the hole the top part of the bracket seems to be sticking up to far. I even swapped out the metal pin from the original battery and still fits poorly.
Anyone have this happen ..and anyone have a solution? I just don't want to break the door tabs.
The new batteries arrived today, two of the ones available on ebay right now (7 left last time I checked). They are marked identically to the original battery, with metal pins. I'll charge the first one tonight and let you know how it holds up in the first few days.
Hi Could you update us with the performance of your new battery if possible?
A link would be very helpful also or the name of the shop that you have bought it.
I have to change battery also and your experience can be helpful.
So far both batteries are functioning normally. I haven't done any hard testing to see if they last as long, but under normal use they are fine. I bought them from user "bestseller2628" on ebay. Note: these are definitely Chinese knock-offs. BOTH batteries I bought arrived with an identical serial number sticker! But I expected that for something that cost half of what other dealers were asking (and since the batteries ship from Hong Kong).
Got an extra batt
I bought an extra battery 3 months ago from a battery replacement shop (for pda, cameras, mobile phone etc.) in my area...I was surprised that they have one, 'cause there may only be roughly around 5-10 HTC Athena units/owners in our country (seen two brandnew units for sale, two used units for trade/sale, and known 2 other owners, total of 7 confirmed units in the country) ...
It has a metal pin and though it's only 1800mAh, with normal use it lasts a day and a half...
Good thing was it had a 3-month replacement warranty and worth only $16...

Hello
I bought recently 3 batteries from ebay, 2200 mAh with plastic pin. Its work fine, like an original battery, but for very little money. The plastic pin was broken inmediately, but I can to extract it perfectly. I also bought a wall charger. I can charge the batteries without the pda.

I still hope there will be a vertical cradle, although the plugin for the chargder is on the side.
I think I like it more then a vertical one ... The wide view allows for better seeing mails, pictures ... whatever ... And it's more stable too maybe. I'm getting one
oh! I want! I want!
haha. ) - does this work with evo? I like horizontal as well. less likely to topple over, cause I use the phone as an alarm clock and grab for it blindly to shut it up. )

Kidigi now has the horizontal cradel for sale.

Any one has it? Is it good? Where to buy it (UK)?
here is also vertical one:
Wouldnt the vertical one affect reception since it blocks the bottom of the back cover?

I already have the battery, which does make a difference btw.
The cradle was not in stock and should be available end of this month (May).

aside from the "barbie doll" yes..made out from wood, carved using mini dremmel+sandpaper.
@ GoblinIT: why is the battery crap? I have a different opinion....the battery definitely gives me more power and lasts about 30-40% longer.
The cradle was posted to me yesterday and I should have it within the next 2 weeks..
Mugen Power Crap!
I've just received cradle from Mugen Power and I wouldn't recommended it to anyone.
OK. Cradle is really well done, looks solid etc. but...
LEDs - Left always blue, Right always green... Whatever you plug or not... So what are they for?
Audio mini Jack is covered, so forget about plugging anything...
You can't know if second battery charging process is finish or not...
And the worst - look at attached image - power plug - what is this? Where I can plug it? Crap!
Delivery time: over 1 month and 1 week
It is not the Kidigi one, it is cheap copy...
Waste of money. Don't buy it... Maybe if you buy it in Europe you would get the proper plug... but evidently please don't buy it from Mugen Power!

So have you got it? What is your opinion? Battery life is not only my opinion, it was tested and my test showed it has shorter battery life then original one from HTC...
^ Thanks for posting that and warning me. I was about to order it from them and I am now glad I didn't.
I am going to continue looking for an authentic one and if I find one I will be sure to share it on here.
I also got the cradle and despite the fact that it does what it says; you can charge phone and battery, it feels really cheap and 'plastic', so on the cradle I agree with GoblinIT.
I still am happy with the battery though.
Hey guys!
I think I found the perfect combination of car mount+car charger for the HD2!
NOTE: Links are listed at the bottom of this post. Also, I am in no way affiliated with the sellers.
I was searching all the available mounts on Amazon (I didn't want to spend money on shipping I have prime) and each one of them was either too flimsy or expensive.
Then it dawned on me that I could may be use the EVO's car mount, I checked this site and sure enough, they have really close dimensions.
I took the plunge and bought a mount and guess what? It fits the HD2 perfectly! The mount pivots about the center ball joint which itself is attached to a goose neck allowing for almost infinite adjust-ability. The orientation can be locked in place with a thumb screw near the ball joint. The best thing is, the whole thing stays quiet solid and doesn't jump around when on uneven roads (at least in my rental car)
I also wanted a charger and I found a genuine Motorola 1A charger (most of the others were 500mA) and while using GPS navigation, the HD2 consumes ~400mA or more depending on the screen brightness, Bluetooth etc. That only leaves ~100mA or less for charging the battery which is five times less than what USB provides. You can imagine how slowly the battery would charge.

looks great
I thought I would start a new thread but it's probably not necessary.
I have strongly considered OP's combination for days a few weeks ago and I found some similar items @ Monoprice with the monoprice kind of price, if you know what I mean. I give you a quick review if you're shopping for these.
The (universal) car mount $3.57
The mount is definitely bulkier than the one OP recommends but overall it's certainly not a bad product. Once you figured how you want to position it, the mount is pretty sturdy. My only regret is that it won't stick to my dashboard as I would thought but it's because of the texture of the dashboard, not because of the suction cup of the mount, so it's stuck to the windshield. For less than $4, it's just awesome.
the 5 volt 1000 mAh car charger $1.78
The build can be labeled as 'a bit flimsy' and I have yet to drive with the phone plugged in with GPS to check the battery drain (or lack thereof).
I can tell the phone charges with Winamp playing. It is no real surprise I know but it is the main use when in the car. Cord could be a tiny bit longer but it's a good deal.
EDIT: 2 months later
the build is definitely sh***y. if you let it too long in the power outlet, a piece a plastic breaks and the thing doesn't work anymore. Could be easily fixed but I won't bother. Monoprice nicely replaced the first one without asking but now my second one broke and I'll get the motorola one from amazon.
I got to grab a $3 BT headset and I'm good
look great, thanks
Hi chvvkumar, after reading your post I have decided to buy the same car charger from Motorola as you have. I would like to ask you if you could let me know how much mAh does your phone show as receiving when it is charging.
When I tried mine, it was receiving about +/-450mAh, which is what I normally see when I use the normal charger.
Thanks for the information.
The mount looks just like mine - over 12 months old, lives attached to the screen, gets used most days of the week, don't remember where it came from apart from it was Ebay
a good couple of £ investment
hi
my pixel 4 xL broken the wireless charging after the march update, until now, i upgrade to the android 12, but still can't get it work. anyone have this same problem? or anyone have solution to fix this?
Hey!
I mean, Wireless charging is something that is rarely broken by an update, though it's possible. Here is what I recommend you to do:
Refresh the whole firmware of the Google Pixel 4 XL and use the latest version version.
If it still doesn't work do the process again, but this time flash the the version of Android that you remember had no problem with Wireless charging.
If nothing worked I would recommend you to try using another Wireless charging, if you don't want to buy a new one you can try one on some tech store on your city.
If nothing work I am sorry but your Wireless charging coil is broken, and you need to fix your phone.
Fortunately it's very easy, you just need to change the back cover or just replace the wireless charging coil which is glued down on the back of the phone. Here is a link to fixit's web page with a guide on how to fix only the charging coil, though if you want you can buy a new back glass for 40$, just check it had all the camera sensors.
Hope this helps you!!! ;D

I've had two P4XL's replaced under warranty, one as recently as a month ago. The same thing happened on both of them. The battery swells in the middle of the phone, separating the back glass from the frame around the volume buttons. I didn't see it until I took the case off and inspected the phone. Google has extended warranty for battery related issues if you purchased the phone directly from them. Check your phone carefully for this swelling and glass separation.

That's strange, battery swallen is something that happens, but the device need to be very hot to for that to happen( like the battery need to be at almost 50 degrees, and should be older than 3 years).
Though if you can get it replaced that's a good idea
upgrade to android 12, but the wireless charging still not work, so maybe the wireless charging coil is broken
Nothing to do with 12. Charging coils are flexible and don't break. Batteries swell and their fragile connections do break. In the picture, the back glass is separated from the frame, indicating the battery is swollen. It is flush at the bottom corner but bulges in the center. This is an extreme case, yours may be more subtle but you have to rule it out.
