A little overwhelmed - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

My wife has a Galaxy s5- ATT SM-g900a. Recently the phone randomly locks up and/or reboots. I have factory wiped it with the same results. I have done some reading but not sure where to start on fixing this problem. It looks like its got G900AUCS4DPH3 on it now. Is it possible one of the apps is causing this or is the OS or what should I do to remedy this. Thanks

If you have done a factory wipe, then it is not an app issue. After a factory wipe you should have been left with no apps and only the barebone OS, unless if you did a full restore. If that is the case, redo factory wipe without app restore and see if the issue continues. If it is fixed, install the apps one by one, starting from the ones that are the most important for her, and see if it brakes after installing any specific apps again. Good luck

N1 freezing a lot on FRF91

Since I manually upgraded from EPE54B to FRF85B to FRF91, my phone has been freezing a lot. I don't really see a pattern to it as far as which apps are open when it freezes. It has happened on Handcent, browsing, Gmail, and probably a couple other apps. Anybody know what could be causing this?
yes u are right, its freezing.
Try this, from lostinbeta:
Yes, boot into recovery (turn off the device, then hold down the trackball while powering on the device)... then follow the instructions to navigate to the recovery window)... I believe when you get to recovery you get an android with an exclamation point.... press volume up, volume down, and power button all at the same time to access the submenus. Wipe should be in there. Works for non-rooted and locked phones. It's the same way I did my manual 2.2 update.
Wouldn't that wipe all the data on my phone?
Select the wipe cache option first and see if that fixes the issue. That only clears the cache partition and not the phone data.
If it doesnt then you might want/have to do a factory wipe which will delete all ur info (so back them up first).
I wiped the cache, but that didn't help. I decided to try disabling some applications to see if one of them was causing the problem. I think I may have found it. I disabled some of the options on LauncherPro that said they could cause instability, and I haven't had a problem since.
I'm having problems with the phone freezing as well.
i had a problem freezing too and i jus did a factory reset/data wipe in recovery and everything came out good no freezes, did manual updates too
I ended up doing a factory reset/wipe as well, and that fixed the problem for me.
Go to the market and grab Process Manager Full. Kill some of the apps running in the background like mail, browser, music or stuff that isn't a service. Free up some memory and see it that temporarily fixes freezing. We all deal with this and for myself, closing apps always unfreezes the phone.
Is there a way to solve this problem without factory wipe? Mine freezes 5 times a day....

I was going through this as well. If I fell back to the original ERD PASSIMG and then updated to ERE27 and stayed there things were fine.
As soon as FRF91 got pushed to my phone it would begin running hotter and lock up / restart many times per day. Yesterday alone I counted five lock-ups in 45 minutes while out shopping with my wife.
I finally got frustrated and last night I rooted my phone and did the hack needed to block the 2.2 OTA. I am currently running rooted 2.1 ERE27 (otherwise stock) and my phone is behaving nicely.
I haven't had a single lock-up/reboot since I rooted. There are some things I miss from FroYo now (like properly working hands-free Bluetooth) but I can live without if it means my phone is behaving properly.
Your still going to get the OTA, I restored one of my nandriod backups FRF85, and the OTA was waiting for me after bootup. You can't flash it though if you have custom recovery. They have rooted stock FROYO, try it out maybe you'll like. I would never go back to 2.1 that's insane.

"There was a problem with authorization. Please wait while we reset your device"

"There was a problem with authorization. Please wait while we reset your device"
OK - I have a Nook that was purchased at 1.00. I registered with BN.
Then I used NookColor_v1.1.0_r2.zip to root it.
I installed Market and got ADB to work. Life was great.
I think life started turning south when I went to the BN marketplace and purchased a book. In the middle of reading it, I got the dreaded "There was a problem with authorization. Please wait while we reset your device".
Fortunately, I had backed up my ROM using ROM Manager. So, I re-installed my ROM and it wasn't long before I got the message again. I feel like I'm now in an endless loop of resetting my device. I'm not sure how to get out of it. I've read several threads on this subject that simply leave me confused at this point. I'm looking for guidance. I LOVED my rooted Nook Color while it lasted. I don't like it stock. I'm looking for help.
I've been rooted on 1.0.1 since Christmas, and shortly after I first rooted, I had this happen to me too. There were others affected as well. Back then, we didn't have the recovery image, so I just set everything back up by hand. Since then it hasn't happened to me.
I haven't dug further, but I would guess that there is something that B&N doesn't like in the rooted image, but after a reset, it was happy again. Again, this was with my 1.0.1 root and an earlier rev of Autonooter, but this may be a way out of the loop you're in.
I had the same problem and assumed that it was because BN authorization puts a file on your NC that is date sensitive and if you do a restore (I was using titanium backup) and put an older file in place it will trip this reset scenario. I did a reroot with autonooter 3.0 and restored everything but any BN apps or data and the problem is gone.
Same thing just happened to me too. Going to restore and re-root later today.
I just went through the same problem as well. Tried out Nookie Froyo on emmc. Liked the Nook stock interface better. Tried restoring via CWM and get the "There was a problem with authorization. Please wait while we reset your device" error. Tried it twice and got the same error twice as soon as it connects to wifi.
Ended up having to flash back to stock and start the rooting process all over again. And now it seems to be fine.
Happened to me two weeks ago and I kept restoring. That's the problem, when I restored back to an older rom. Just root it again, restore the apps manually by dling off the market or through Astro. Don't restore the whole thing through CW. It worked for me because I haven't had the problem since then.

It happened to me as well funny thing was that I had a 1.1.0 never rooted Nook Color and I rooted with AutoNooter 3.0.0 and it happened within 24 hours. There was no restoring backups or anything. Any ideas?

Again, my guess is that there is something in the rooting process that trips the reset. If you allow the reset to proceed without restoring the whole rom (Titanium restores should be fine) then you likely won't see it again. It's a little tedious, but should be ok... I've been running rooted for over a month with 1.0.1, and aside from the first reset, it's been smooth sailing.

I allowed it to reset but when it came back I was missing several crucial applications such as gmail, the android market and youtube. The rest (that are included in the root) were there. But I was lost without those applications and believed that a full rom reset was needed. Would there have been another way?
Using Titanium Backup, backup only User apps and data. Do not backup System apps and/or data. When you get back up from the reset and re-root, only restore User apps and data.
Maybe you can restore the ROM and backup just the User apps and data. Remove the SDcard. and then let it reset, or reset it to stock yourself. Get it back to how you want the base, root, install TiBu then restore your User apps and data.
Shameless plug: if you haven't already, buy Titanium Backup. It can be a life saver, or at least a sanity saver. I have no affiliation with the author, just a fan of the program.

[Q] Titanium Backup issues with restoring apps

Hello, I have been experiencing a weird issue with restoring apps with Titanium Backup Pro that I have never had before. My captivate had Firefly 3.0 on it and apps were being backed up every night. My phone started freezing and restarting, so I flashed to stock, master cleared, then reloaded Firefly 3.0. I use Titanium backup pro to restore the apps it had backed up, and it seems to work fine. Once they are all done, I can access them and use them, whatever.
The issue arises after I restart the phone; some of the apps just go away from the app drawer. They are not on my sd card, so that can be ruled out. For instance, Angry Birds got restored fine, and I could play it until I restarted the phone, then it just went away. Same with Flikie HD, and many others. I look in the application manager and some apps just have the generic android icon and their names are in the format "com.android......". These are the apps that will not work.
This has never happened to me before and there seems to be no rhyme or reason for it. There is no pattern for what apps it does or does not restore. Also, unknown sources are allowed and Titanium Backup says the backup files are fine, no errors at all. I have gone through the process of flashing to stock, master clearing, reflashing quite a few times now, but the same thing every time, with the same apps it seems.
Thanks for taking the time to read my long problem, but I wanted to be as descriptive as possible. Any ideas would be greatly appreciate.
Having the came problem with Apex 8.1. Any ideas?
Unfortunately, no. I just ended up taking note of which apps screwed up on restore, and then just got them from the market. Lost the data that accompanied them, but oh well.
TIBU update
I just had this same problem but had luck by first updating TIBU from the market. Then uninstall the offending app(s) and re-install from the market. After install, just restore data only through TIBU, and voila! Worked for me but as usual, ymmv. This happened to my Angry Birds and was not very happy to lose my save game data but it all worked out in the end. Hope this helps.
PS - was also on Apex 8.1...

This was a known issue when installing a ROM with an incompatible version of CWM. Just verify which version of clockwork mod you have and what the flashable .zip requires to load properly. May or may not be it, just figured I'd throw it out there.

Huh, I never got the option to reload only the data, it was weird. After I installed the apps from the market, the option to restore the app or data was gone totally.

I don't think that is the issue, thanks though. I have restored apps on Firefly 3.0 with the same CWM with no issues, so I doubt that is it. I appreciate the reply though.

[Q] CM12 Nightly Factory Reset Lost Root

Was handing off my phone to my son, moving on to an LG G2, I let him test it out under my account, he added his account and phone was a little sluggish since the extra account was taking up more RAM, so he hands it to me while I was in bed and needs help, I factory reset it thinking it would just wipe out my personal data and allow him to enter his, well it did, but now he lost Root and I am stuck on the 1st nightly with memory leak...
Any method available to reroot this phone when in 5.0 so I can continue upgrading with nightlies? Or am I in a world of hurt now?
Justatechie replied in another thread, THANKS!!
Thats not going to work, it only works with the stock atrix hd 4.1.1
Cm12 can be rooted by going into developer options on the phone,
under root access (its disabled by default)
Just tap on it and allow apps or app and adb and it should be all set.
Other people prefer to flash supersu by going into recovery, just download the latest and put it where you will find it when you use the recovery.
I completely forgot about that, I had enabled developer mode, but nothing else, thought the reboot into advanced options was default, which it was not and slightly had a panic attack.. Thanks for the save...
Running apps stay running after a flash...
First thing odd I noticed, after giving him my phone and his adding his apps, is that when you click square to see running apps and click the 3 bars to turn them all off, they do not turn off, you have to swipe each one off now.
When I had the phone that process would end all apps I had started, now they stay on unless you swipe them off.
Also, after flashing the update to latest nightly, all the apps that were running before I flashed it and entered recovery to perform the flash, were running again upon a reboot. I have never seen this on any build, don't know if it is one of his apps causing this or what??
And I cleaned cache, cleaned dalvik, flashed both zips, cm12 and gapps, then cleaned cache again as instructed in the 5.0 threads.
I tried to see if it would happen again so I opened 3 apps, then performed a reboot, after phone rebooted, clicked the square and those same 3 apps were active...
What may have caused this?
Factory reset may have some bug as the phone was performing normally before I used that method to clear out my user data.
And if I ever decide to part with the phone I would expect that feature to work or I would be forced to keep it...

Apps will continue to run if you reboot. This is not a bug but a feature from Lollipop

Android system error

I'm having a pretty serious issue. My phone rebooted on its own earlier and I only know because when it came back on it has the message: android system there's an internal problem with your device, and it may be unstable until you factory data reset.
I booted into safe mode and got the same error which tells me it isn't an app (I think)
Titanium backup force closes upon boot and will not open. I was hoping to use it to backup a couple of my games.
Anyone know of a fix? I haven't installed anything new in the last few days. Do I just need to hard reset? I'm hoping to avoid that. I might try to flash a new 5.1 system to see if that fixes it.
I had the same problem before. I believe its due to an error with the /data partition. Best thing I can recommend is formatting /data
As an update. I fastboot flashed I over D and did not get anywhere. I still get the error when it boots up and titanium backup is still borked. It was working fine before. I've heard that SMS apps can give issues so I am backing everything up, including the messages, and I'm going to erase all the messages and Textra. I will then reboot. If that doesn't fix it I guess it's time for a format of everything.
I've had Android for a long time, since the OG Hero on Sprint. This is the first time this has happened, so I'm hoping it isn't a common thing for the Nexus 6.
Deleting all messages and textra did not fix the issue. The only thing I think that could've caused it is recently by chainfire. It happened the day after I installed, tried, didn't work, and uninstalled. The next day the issue pops up and won't go away. Could also just be coincidence.
The only way I fixed this was factory reset. I did not have to wipe user data.
