Lenovo Real Pen Ink Refils - Lenovo Yoga Book Accessories

Purchasing the ink refils directly from Lenovo seems rather expensive at 3 refils for EUR10. After some quick searching I came accross these: http://autopointinc.com/ministar-ink-refill.html which appear to be the same refils from the original manufacturer at 5 refils for $5 and a choice of colours.
EDIT: I'll add that I have purchased and tested them to ensure they do in fact work.

Thanks for letting us know! I read that you can use any refill with the pen, and the digitizer will work - I'm looking for rollerballs, and I'll report back if I find any.

Anyone found a cheaper compatible stylus
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

The Wacom Bamboo Spark uses the same tech AFAIK. Sol I would assume the stylus pen for that is compatible.

I bought a pack of 100 for less than $9 on AliExpress (http://s.aliexpress.com/v6j2a6fa) . Sadly, they only seem to have blue or black. The refill works perfectly. As with all things AliExpress, you'll have a bit of wait until they arrive. Shipping time was 2 weeks to Germany.

Apparently 67mm is a pretty standard multipen refill size (these are 68mm), and refills that look as if they might work can be found at http://www.cultpens.com/c/q/explore/product-type/refills/d1-multipen-refills and https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=node=1069832&field-keywords=d1
Edit-Yup, confirmed with a mini-pen I've got that uses a D1. We wanna look for D1 refills. Jet pens also has lots of options, including Gel. http://www.jetpens.com/search?q=d1
I've ordered some purple ones. http://www.jetpens.com/Monteverde-Soft-Roll-Ballpoint-Pen-Refill-D1-0.7-mm-Purple-Pack-of-4/pd/7802
Edited Edit-The D1 refill I have doesn't work when writing on the book pad. It picks up every gesture of the pen, not just what you actually write. OP, did you have this problem with your non-lenovo refills?

Not the OP, but my refills (exactly 67 mm) work when writing on the book pad. Could the extra mm be causing the issue?

I bought some standard D1 refills from Amazon and they worked fine with the pen and pad. A lot cheaper than the Lenovo refills and are also readily available from high street stores.
The Samsung Note 4 stylus also works with the digitiser pad, the button even works on compatible apps.

I've found the same problem. I ordered one of these Uni Jetstream cartridges, and it ceases to detect pen distance and pressure when you put one of these in. It acts the same as if there were no nib in it -- it will start tracking the pen and 'writing' even when you are off the paper.
I'm guessing the EMR system doesn't work with the conductivity of that specific refill, or something.
I'm on a quest to find a refill that writes better than the original nibs. Has anyone found any gel refills that work with the digitiser?

Firstly, apologies, I can't post URLs as I don't have enough posts.
I found this thread after trying some cheap refills off amazon - and like others, found they didn't work properly on the digitizer with the same problem of light lines appearing even when the stylus was not in contact with the digitizer.
I came to the conclusion that the metal composition of the refill was the problem - if you hold something metal (in my case a small nail) next to the tip of a stylus with a genuine refill, then it messes up the digitizer sensitivity. This would make sense as different metals will interact with electromagnetic fields differently and the EM of EMR stands for ElectroMagnetic.
Checking out refills for the Bamboo Spark pen mentioned previously I found them for sale at Misco dot uk.
The interesting line at the end is "The unique brass casing is essential to the use of Spark, as it helps the communication between the pen and the sensor board for optimal performance." which backs up my thinking.
I have found a supplier in Switzerland (Starminen dot ch) and have ordered some. I will update this thread when they arrive.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the refills I ordered are only €1.19 for 5 plus postage - came to €5 for 2 packs plus postage to the UK.

These are the refills I bought, the price has increased since I bought them. I got the same refills from a local Rymans for even less (I'm in the UK), again they were just a generic D1 refill.

Thanks coredump I took the plunge and bough the pack of 100 in black as well for $8.86 from Ali Express including shipping to the UK. Arrived in about 15 days and they work perfectly with the Yoga Book transcriber.
A little bit inky compare to the Lenovo ones i.e. when writing a few sentences there may be a tiny bit of extra ink so need to be careful not to drag my hand through it and smudge it. However for the price I'm delighted. I figure all things being equal that those Pen refills should see me through a few happy years with the yoga book.

Sorry I'm so late in getting back to you. I hope you like the refills. As for paper, I ended up making my own in Inkscape and cutting them to size with a paper cutter. This might not be an option if you don't have a paper cutter at hand. I would be happy to provide you with the svg files or convert them to pdf if you want to give it a try.

REVIEW ON POST #6
Has anybody bought this stand! I really like it. In fact i prefer it over the other cradles, since it can be used both in portrait and landscape.
i tried buying it several times but paypal keeps giving me limitation errors though i am verified. contacted them but no use, they suck. i cant even make donations here
Here is the link to the product
http://www.4u-mobi.com/onlineshop/online_shop_detail.php?pid=5415
If anybody here has it, could you pls review with some pics. thanks
Paypal sucks as*. They refuse to unfreeze my account even though I did 4 things they asked me too. I refuse to fax them pics of my social security number and id.
I was going to order the stand because I've been looking for one. I clicked ABOUT US and found this:
4U-Mobi is offers a wide range of accessories of PDA, iPod, Smartphone, etc.
We accept credit card payments over the PayPal. Accepting Visa and Mastercard. All payments in US Dollars and deliver worldwide.
The above is copy/paste from their site. I never order anything online from foreign companies unless I've heard of them.

This is a awesome stand! I shall purchase one after im done saving for my Nikon D300

I really like it. Looks elegant on my desk.
The bottom has a non slip rubber, the part where the device goes in is plastic and the leg is made of steel. the 90 degree rotation is very useful. There is cut outs for the usb and earphone plugs. i am using the device on it with no issues, it is stiff and its not shaking at all.

I got it within two weeks, the thing is don't expect any customer service from these guys. They don't even send you an email of purchase confirmation.
Despite contacting them several times- No reply.

Very nice gonna order 2 of those, and thanks for the review.

You are welcome!
I just got mine a couple days ago after reading your post. Agree with everything you said. It's nice and sturdy. The 90% rotation is great for watching YouTube videos in landscape mode. A lot better than I expected. It feels like it'll last for years. Just don't expect to take this with you because it won't fit in your pocket. I rest it next to my computer and use it as a secondary computer, listen to radio, watch movies, check email, etc...

Thanks for the great review and pics.
It looks like from your pics that the volume down button is a little obscured. I'm I right, or is it just the angle of the picture? Did yours come with the top clip as shown on the website? Is it tight with the top clip on? The reason I ask is because I have the US HD2 and it's a little taller than the EU HD2.
Thanks.
Has anyone tried using this stand with an HD2 skin on their device, such as BodyGuardz, InvisibleShield or BSE? I'm wondering if a transparent skin would make it too hard to insert into this stand.
I think I will get this and secure it to my dash as a car mount. This way I can use it in both landscape or portrait if desired.
Looks great to me, thanks for the heads up!
(Official car dock is expensive :S)
Update: Just ordered, looking forward to this.

Yes , unfortunately thats the only setback. the volume down button is obscured. It doesn't really bother me though.
Yes i got my top clip but don't need to use it since without it its easy to put the device on and off. Even without it the phone stays securely in place.Plus i think the clip has a couple of mm more room.
I also did some DIY on the inner side of the stand to protect my phone from scratches. i used self adhesive soft fabric and cut it right.

Great, thanks for answering my questions. I purchased the stand based on your review. I think if the volume down being obscured bothers me I can just cut a bit of the plastic. Great idea with the lining, I might have to do that too.

Just made a similar modification to my stand, although with Moleskin Plus.
Although I found putting it on the arms made it very tight and too difficult to slip the device in.
In fact, even with it just on the back and sides it is very tight.
Do you find the same issue with yours?

Mine slides in and out smoothly. You need to use very thin fabric lining like i have. i also cut the left plastic side which covers the volume button. now it works great.

Desk Top Stand

Got this little desk top stand from Amazon UK £8.49
I wanted a stand and came across this one
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003HJI1Q6/ref=oss_product
as you can see from the pics it does look to small but it does its job very well the streak does not slip at all in landscape or portrait and if the front gets dirty just wash with a little clean water and its as good as new.
It does not feel sticky to the touch and leaves no marks on the back of the streak, it has a card reader on one side and 2 usb on the other and can be plugged into mains as well so you can leave that plugged in and just connect streak to it for charging
I would give it 9 out of 10 if it was a tad bigger it would get a 10 but for a stand it is great and would recommend it
Although tempting, I think I will go with Dell's overpriced home docking station.
Thanks for the images though, huge help!

Ah most definitely, and with a price tag of £8.49 why not purchase one!
How is the usability of the Streak while it is on the stand? Can you still point around and touch the screen without much give on the stand?
I am assuming the non sticky surface (that the Streak sticks to) is like those 'car mats' they sell at gas station in the States.
.
Yes its very good you can operate it very well on the stand and it does not move, the stivky stuff is not sticky at all so don't know why I keep calling it sticky, its just black rubber and yes just like those mats,i do think the angle of the stand helps as well
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Based on this recommendation I bought one from 7Day shop for £7.99 delivered
They also do it in white for £5.99 delivered
It arrived this morning and first off I was disappointed. My conclusion was that the holder pad does not hold the Streak, this is in line with feedback comments I have seen elsewhere. I think this is the same item that Mobile Fun sells as The Genie for £14.99.
However I have completely misunderstood the function. It doesn’t so much hold the Streak, rather it doesn’t let it slip off the holder. A shift in perception is required. It is the difference between non-slip friction and sticky.
I realised this after I sent an email to 7Day requesting a ‘sticky’ replacement pad. At that point I had decided in any event not to send it back for a refund as the built in memory card reader, which reads the micro SD from the Streak, is probably worth the money and the inclusion of a 2 port USB hub makes it even more of a bargain.
When 7Day responds to me I shall apologise for taking up their time. Perhaps if they get some customers based on my feedback that will help compensate for my too hasty complaint.
However a caveat, over time - possibly due to the weight of the Streak - it can sometimes imperceptibly slide down the holder so that it ends up with the base resting on the desk. No big deal but a disaster if the stand is on the edge of a shelf with only thin air to prevent the Streak from hitting the ground.
So the sales description of “Securely holds...” is misleading. Nonetheless as a 3-in-1 accessory it is excellent.

Any fine tip stylus'?

I visited my local dollar store earlier and found a cheap stylus for 2 dollars. It works well but the only thing I don't like is the rounded tip. I'm looking for more of a shape of a pen with a pointy tip. Preferably really cheap for a dollar or so from ebay or any online retailer that ships to Canada. Any ideas?

It's not a real graphics tablet (the kind photoshop users have). Capacitive screens just aren't that accurate. You have the same issue w/ the ipad screen.
If you want something w/ the accuracy of the Galaxy Note, get the Note. It uses Wacom technology which actually is accurate...

Saw that, but meh the fragile disc and the price is a turn off. I guess I'll just stick with my cheapo stylus for the time being. It does my sort of writing well enough anyway.
http://handstylus.com/
Coming soon, a "finer" point stylus for cap. touch screens.
The problem is the screen tech. Because of the way they work, it requires a larger point of contact. They aren't real precise for writing or drawing. This is all cap screens including iDevices.
The Note and Flyer uses a combination of screen techs and pen tech. The pen has sensors that detects pressures and communicates to the device (I guess). That or there is there an additional screen layer that has pressure sensors.
Old school resistive screens are much more accurate.

For any size tip to work on a capacitive touch-screen it has to be compressed until the tip forms a circle on the screen's surface that measures approximately 4mm in diameter," designer Steve King
I have the Adjonit Pro and love it. Works great even with the screen protector and am getting better at Draw Something with it LOL
I've been on the search for a fine tipped stylus & haven't found anything that works consistently. I just use the cheap-o stylus from Amazon.

Revue of the Plai Estylo Stylus
Report on the Plai Estylo stylus -
If you're not familiar with it, see this: http://plai.tv/blog/estylo-11
and this video of how precisely the tip can be used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhKb32LWL28
I got the Estylo in this morning's mail. I like it a lot. Tested it with Autosketch Sketchbook Pro, Fresco Pro, and Lecture Notes. It produces slightly cleaner (slightly more legible) handwriting strokes than the Kuel H12 stylus. I also notice that it both glides more smoothly, but with a very firm feel (the tip material has almost no give to it in comparison with a rubber or silicone tip.) To be fair, you still can't use a tiny, tiny point to draw with - you have to angle the tip to get more of it in contact with the surface. BUT, you can easily see where you are drawing/writing.
Now if there was a clip on it, so I could keep in in my pocket without fear of losing it, it would be ideal. BTW, it's extremely light weight (4 grams.)
So, I am a long time Galaxy Note user. Someone who has become dependent on the S Pen. I have also become dependent on a removable battery...
I use my S Pen all day practically every day for work and I work in a low signal area. The Galaxy Note was definitely the phone for me until Samsung decided to pull the plug on removable batteries.
I have been very interested in LG's new G5 (hey, it has a removable battery!) but I am having a lot of trouble finding a fine point stylus, similar to the S Pen, that will work with the G5's capacitive screen.
Looking through XDA forums I have come across not only this thread but another...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/how-to-make-fine-stylus-t2933326
I have not yet tried this but have high hopes.
There is no SPen replacement. I have a Note 5. The Note Line has a special pen digitizer layer that allows the use of a fine stylus.
There are several fine point regular pens, but none really compare.
I've never used one of these but it's probably your best bet.

Lol. Yeah. I was kinda wanting to go with the Groovy (in blue).. like having the option to use it as a stand for video and reading on breaks. Guess I'll have to check out some of the Amazon ones. Only thing I noticed on most of those is they all seem to have that frame around the sides of the screen.. not sure if I'd like that. Does the auto sleep thing work ok with those? (I currently just have a sleeve I keep mine in that slides into a pocket in my shoulder bag, but I think a case/cover might be better.. less parts to have to deal with. Lol)

The cheap Poetic case can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-StrapBack-Protective-Function-Manufacturer/dp/B00AAKLDN8.
I hate cases that cover the bezel. This one fits the bill, has the magnetic on/off, and does well as a stand. (side rant: I never understood manufacturers who place the inside surface of a cover on a table when in stand mode. Great way to pick up all sorts of debris and possible scratches. This one doesn't do that, thankfully.)
I'm happy with it. Looks sleek when closed. One potential caveat : it will have that new car smell for a week or so. Didn't bother me, but may some. I would have been happy with this case for 4x the price.
By the way - While I highly recommend this for the HD+, I just as highly don't recommend it for the HD. Given the way the HD is made, it will have possible problems.

Ahh OK. Hadn't really noticed that one for some reason. I had been looking at these: http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Slimline-Portfolio-Manufacturer-Warranty/dp/B00B20N9XW Which, as you you mentioned have you putting at least part of the inside cover against the table. While the only time I'll probably be using the stand feature is at work.. those break room tables can definitely be nasty at times.
Actually now that I look at it, I remember why I'd skipped over this one, there seemed to be several complaints on Amazon of this cover damaging people's Nooks??
The Nook HD version can damage your device. The HD+ one is fine.

Really disappointed in the Lautner case. Adds a lot of bulk and not anywhere near as light as I expected. Luckily it was only £5,the original £35 is daylight robbery.
Thanks for the heads up, picked up two USB cables and chargers for less than the price of one (planned to get one anyway and handy having a spare).
they don't ship oversea (from B&N-UK-website to France/Belgium/Netherlands...)
They do from B&N-US-website, but the prices are higher and the shipment cost also (which is logical: US -> EU)
I've just ordered a Nook HD+, to start reading/try annotating texts on a tablet, thanks to their current low prices (I had to look for a place shipping overseas). It's a pitty I can't do the same with the accessories. Well, I'll have to look further for those. Or maybe see if no one I know is going to the UK anytime soon

Lol. Lol)

Aaaand then there was one. Thanks for spotting that @adam_ky ! Sure beats the $32 "clearance" one I found at Wal-Mart. Lol
I'd been watching eBay and Amazon hoping for just such a find but since eBay's search ignores the "+" I found myself using 9 in the search terms to narrow it down.. this one flew right under the radar. Had $18 in my PayPal account from Ebates so this one will be free!
Nice.

Glad to help. I have found ebay to be the best solution when searching for a good deal on a case. I only have the hd not the plus but i really like the groovy case looks good and works nice. I hope you like it.

I'm liking it a lot actually. Works good, not a ton of options for angles, but you only really need two anyway, ya know? I love the auto sleep/wake feature too.. the cover keeps it from coming on in my backback and draining the battery down. And it looks very nice, not cheap and plasticy.
eBay is definitely my first stop, then Amazon, then from there I go poking around the different sites .. but I'd say 99% of my online purchases are either from eBay or Amazon.
Why UK only?
Can someone buy me some things and ship them to Germany?

Lenovo Book Paper

Has anyone found an alternative supplier for the paper pad than Lenovo themselves? If so where?
DIY: cut a A4 notepad to the right size and with a paper punch make the two holes
Works perfect
i tried finding the paper size based on international standards but unfortunately no joy. Are there any other paper standards that lenovo couldve followed to make the book pad?

After also searching for the paper size I came to the conclusion that Lenovo just uses a non standard format. I eventually bought DIN A5 paper and put it in the paper holder.
Lenovo paper
Here is a template for the paper.. Just cut it off an 8X11
Walmart sells the paper/pads/pencil for a discount if you live in the US
Updated paper template
I've created a fairly accurate paper template with cut lines and a grid more like the original if anyone wants it.
I made my own changeable pad for less than $1. No need to cut or trim any paper, Fits exactly the yoga book and best of all you can buy it everywhere

I am selling a pen with ink refills and a notepad if anyone is interested
when it came to the papers i first tried to find the original to buy but it costs way to much so i ended up buying just normal plain standar bundles of A5 size paper like theese and then i just used a normal paper punch to mke holes at the top to fit the pins on the pad.
