So I've got a new Samsung Gear Live from the Play Store. I'm attempting to pair the device to a Nexus 5 running stock 4.4.4.
When I turn on the Gear Live I'm prompted with selecting a language. I choose English US. Then i'm taken to the "Install Android Wear on your phone" Screen
At first this screen would show me the text "Gear Live 4AFV" (or something along those lines). However 9/10 (after rebooting or resetting the watch) it will simply show me "Gear Live" no 4 digit name.
Without the 4 digits showing the phone will not detect the bluetooth device to connect. On the off chance that it does show up and the phone is able to detect the watch, the pairing process can either work, or stall leaving both devices sitting at a "wait a moment while pairing" screen that never ends.
Lastly, if everything works and i'm able to pair the watch and phone. it will randomly disconnect and nothing I do will make it reconnect to one another.
Other things to note. Bluetooth has no issues on my phone with any other device.
I've reset the watch numerous times,
I've uninstalled the Android Wear app as well as any other watchfaces or launchers.
I've factory reset the phone.
Suffice it to say i'm almost certain there is a problem with the watch, the question is has anyone else experience this or anything similar with a Reset hasn't fixed the problem and is there possibly a solution to this problem that isn't a replacement.
Google has offered to replace the watch but I want to ensure I"m not missing something here.
thanks for any assistance in advance.

I have the same connection issue but not until I updated it to Android version 5.0 that I started to get connection issues and the gear live was constantly doing a sync loop and it would not stay connected or send SMS messages.
As title says I can't get the navigation cards to appear. They used to work initially on the original LG G Watch but since upgrading to the G Watch R I can't seem to get it to work. I say "OK Google navigate to ..." And it starts the app on my phone just fine but nothing pops up on my wrist. Am I missing something?
Same problem for me. Android 5.0.2. Latest Maps, latest Android Wear.
Same was here..
After i bought my watch it was on Android 4.4, after setup it with the phone it was updated automaticly to 5.0.1 and my navigation doesn't work. But today i've reset my watch and setup up again, and navagitaion works just fine. Maybe after system upgrade of the watch is good to do factory reset to effect of the new android.
Thanks for the reply lostindark, was hoping that would work for me but unfortunately it didn't. Just tried it and it still does the same thing. Just to confirm, you just tapped the reset from the settings menu on the watch right? I did that and it didn't work, then I also cleared the data on the wear app, re-paired the watch and still didn't have any effect Does the same thing mentioned in the OP, works fine on the phone and starts the maps app there but no cards on the watch.
Sorry to heat this, i reset my watch only through settings and notting more but it was worked for me. After the reset and pairing again android wear app put other apps automatically on my watch after that everything works just fine.
Thanks anyways for the suggestion mate, I ended up getting a Nexus 6 today and it is working just fine paired with this phone. Must have been something with my OPO but I have no idea what since it was 100% stock other than root.

Hi all,
Purchased the watch couple days ago, yesterday was my first day to really put it through it's paces. Everything seems copacetic except for the WiFi syncing. I've got cloud sync turned on in the Wear app, and WiFi on the watch is set to "Automatic". I verified the watch is indeed connected to a valid WiFi network, with no exclamation points, etc., and I turn off BT on my phone (but keep it's data connection on.) I then try sending a text from the watch, no luck - "Try again from your phone." fail message. I send myself a text from my wife's phone to my phone, the phone registers it, but the watch doesn't. I go into Keep and delete a note on the phone, the watch still shows it. It's not until they reconnect via BT that everything syncs again. Oh, and I tried it on three different WiFi networks (2 at work, 1 at home), no success.
Here's the only thing that I can think of being different. The very first time I turned WiFi off on the watch, there's was a small Yes/No splash screen that came up saying something to the effect of "turning this off will prevent you from syncing"... I THINK. Honestly I can't recall what it said precisely (I was too excited playing with the watch), but the multiple times I've toggled WiFi since then, I have not seen that message again. Anyone know what message I'm talking about? Of course since it hasn't come up again I'm convinced it's the reason WiFi syncing isn't working now. I even factory reset the watch and cleared the data on my Wear app, hoping to get that message back. (It could be completely unrelated, it's just bugging me that ever since I chose "Yes I'm sure", syncing has not worked.)
Thanks in advance for any ideas/suggestions.

Did you ever figure this out?
I have the LG WATCH R with the Urbane rom and have the same issue. It shows connect to Wifi just fine but if I am away from the phone, I cannot send anything...just like when I have no connection.
I think the pop up you mentioned just had a option to prevent the warning from coming up again but should not affect the option to disable and enable the cloud sync.
Nope, afraid not. I posted it to the Google Android wear forums and a couple of "experts" replied to me with suggestions that did not help (factory reset, mainly.)

Yep that has been my "solutions" too so far. I am not sure how the Cloud Sync works do you? It is linked to your Google account? If so, I have 3 email accounts..could that create an issue? I am basically looking for anything right now
Here's what I did find out: my daily driver phone is a Moto X 2nd gen running Lollipop. I factory reset an old Samsung S4 and set it up with a Google account I'd just created. I then factory reset the watch and paired it to that phone. Wouldn't you know, the WiFi notifications worked!
I then factory reset the S4 again, this time using my main Google account to set it up. Factory reset the watch again also. After pairing them, the WiFi notifications did NOT work!
So, I can only conclude the issue is caused by how I have my main Google account configured, although right now I've gone through all the settings twice and verified that I have all of my sharing settings (like location) enabled. Argh.

Well my LG Watch R is now able to work with Wifi for real but only at home. Not sure what I did...I just deleted my accounts from Settings and added them back.
At work, though even when it shows connected, I do not receive any info from the Phone which is very lame since it was at work where I could really use it.

I have 3 google accounts so I actually deleted only two that are not my primary. Then I went to the Sync options and made sure all was checked.
Then also for the Location I removed any other devices that are showing under my account that are not my Phone (tablet and older phones) but not sure which one of those did the trick.

Huh, okay, I'll give those a try. Thanks.
I did open a ticket with Android Wear Support and was told they were going to escalate the issue and I'd be contacted in 48 hours. That was Sunday. I just asked for an update and they replied that they have no solution ATM and no time frame to provide one. Heh! Oh well.
Hey, so I'm fairly new to android auto, having been in my 2016 civic for only a couple weeks. Everything is working great apart from the text message issue. Basically when I receive a text, it shows up on the home screen but when I click it, aa won't read it to me. The screen goes dark and the microphone icon goes blue as if it's trying to read it, but nothing happens and it returns to the home screen. Interestingly, if I press the microphone and use a voice command like 'read my last text message' aa says: "actually, I can't read your messages yet". Any help would be massively appreciated, it's really the only issue I've had so far with the vehicle or Android auto. Thanks.
Sorry, forgot to mention the phone is a nexus 5 with 6.0.1. The usb cord is the original that came with the phone, plugged into the usb port in the car designated for smartphone connection. Also I'm in Canada, if that matters.
Have you checked the permissions on the android app on your phone? Sounds like it doesn't have permissions to view your SMS?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yah I went to settings/apps/app permissions/sms and enabled all the apps in there. I also went to android auto, messenger, hangouts, Google play services, Google app, and contacts individually to make sure sms permissions were granted. I'm able to send a text from android auto, but it won't read out texts that I receive.
I'm having the same issue with my Galaxy S7 Edge running Android Auto on my Pioneer AVH-4100NEX. I went on vacation and my car sat for a while and now when I'm in Android Auto mode I can't receive and send text messages. I ask Google for the weather or to do a calculation and I get nothing. However, if I ask Google to dial someone whether in my contacts for not, it dials the number. Does this make any sense? There doesn't appear to be any official Android Auto support. I contact Pioneer and they told me my contacts weren't syncing with Android Auto which was strange enough when they said it, but given the fact that I don't get a reply when I ask GoogleNow for the weather means my contacts shouldn't have anything to do with it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
Same here: SEAT Ibiza with Full Link, Nexus 6 with 6.0.1 with SMS and WhatsApp. Could that be caused by some setting for language, text-to-speech? Everything else works fine, also sending messages.
PS: The system language ist German...
Similar.. it'll occassionaly read one message. But only one. Not always the first one per time I connect the phone to the car. Hyundai elantra 2017, vzw gs5.

Made an account just so I could maybe help a few people. I'm using a Galaxy S6 with an AVH-4100NEX unit, and I was getting the same issue. Could send messages fine. Tap to read message - agonizing silence. Managed to solve it by factory resetting my device with Samsung's Smart Switch software. Backup. Reset to factory setting. Restore. Success. All the best!
**SOLVED** this problem has been driving me crazy, but I found the problem. Go to your Google Now settings, click "Voice" and turn OFF Bluetooth Headset.
Its to bad we can't have that on and use Android Auto. You have to choose either the built-in system in the car with Bluetooth or use Android Auto.
Anyways, I hope this solves your problems.
I was hoping Build A Wall's post was the fix but it didn't change anything at least for me. My GoogleNow works fine if I'm just using the phone in my hand. But ever since the end of June, when connected to my car, I can't text or ask for the weather but GoogleNow understand if I ask it to call someone or ask for directions. And even when it does work like making a call, it doesn't reply by saying "Calling Steve" like it used to. It's really weird. I'm wondering if Android Auto came out with an update and it screwed up things.
I don't think there has been another update, I just think it is primitive software that still doesn't quite work as it should. I have had similar problems that I have posted on here in that I could no longer send text messages but could still navigate etc. My situation now is that I have changed nothing on my Nexus or my car unit yet now it is working perfectly again! Hopefully, that is encouraging for you. I hope they will stabilise the software with some updates.

@mpisani sorry that didn't work. It sounds like your problem is a little different than mine. I was having the same issues as the fiest post in this thread. It just wouldn't read my text to me, but everything else worked great.
I hope you get it figured out.
I turned off Bluetooth entirley before starting the car, it didn't help.
Having the same issue. Next text will come in, screen will show that there is a new text and from whom, but when you touch the card the microphone in the right corner turns blue while rest of screen changes tone a bit to show its in background but there is no audio of text message being read. ask google to read new texts and google says it cannot do that at this time. I'm wondering if it can tell thru gps if you are in a state that has banned all texting while driving and they are trying to cover their ass.

Thank you so much - it worked!!! My Voice commands did not work at all, no matter what I tried (which was a lot) - it just turned on, listened, turned off, repeated. This fixed it. Now I can again give voice commands, and it will read messages to me as well!

I've been having the same issues with my new 2017 Elantra. It's sporadic in reading it, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Interestingly, when reading messages it uses the other TTS service and not the one from Google Now.
Going to try the BT setting and see how it works. Also was wondering if the issue was from the SMS app.

I don't believe it is the sms app purely because the fault is the same for me also with google hangouts which is of course a different app.
I'm really bored with it now sometimes working sometimes not no matter what solutions we come up with on here and try out.
Does Apple car play have all these issues with working just when it feels like it? Maybe we should all get iPhones so we can have software that just works as it should.
What about mirror link? Does anyone have experience with that? Or is it just music apps rather than communication like texting etc?

Since this new update, my LG v10 Android Auto experience is horrible - essentially voice commands hardly every work - I'm not getting full prompts all the time (sometimes I get audio beeps before/after, sometimes just before, sometimes just after, sometimes never!). I've found I can guess at what I should be saying when it's listening for voice input to send a text, but I get zero feedback from the system. And my received texts will not read back. Very Very frustrating. As I work for a Honda dealer, our engineers have informed me it's all on Android. I think I'll fire up my iPhone today and go back to CarPlay for a while and hope the next release fixes my issues - it's just not usable in its current form.
The Bluetooth setting worked for me. Really odd fix that I would have never guessed to try. Thanks for the tip

So far, like others, that odd setting fixed it. Google Now update must have introduced it.
Hello everyone,
first I'm sorry for my english and hope you understand everything.
I'm using Android Auto since two years with the same smartphone a galaxy s8+ (Android 9) in my opel corsa e on an Intellilink R4.0 and most of the time it worked without any problems.
But since one week it didn't starts on the Intellilink.
The last systemupdate from my galaxy was something about four weeks ago and in the mean time everything worked fine.
Each time i connect my Smartphone as usual with the car the Android Auto App shuts down and in the smartphone notification it says that Android Auto is connectet but the Intellilink didn't starts Android Auto. It only offers me to change to my Galaxy s8+ but without any result. If i try to start the Android Auto App (while the smartphone is connected to the car and i tryed it once to change to the galaxy) the "Android Auto" app shuts down immediately.
I deleted the bluetooth-connection in my smartphone and in the car and reconnected both.
I deleted the cache & AppData from "AndroidAuto", "Google Play Service" and from the "Google App".
i deleted and reinstalled the Apps.
I also tryed to use two older versions from those Apps because i thought i updated them recently before it didn't worked anymore but without any success.
I tryed three different USB-cabels...
The data-transfer to my pc works so the USB-Port from the galaxy is okay. no one in my circle of friends has a Android Auto compatible car so i can't test it there.
Somewhere i could read that it could help to enable and disable the usb-debuggin in the devolopmentmode in the galaxy but it didn't helped.
Then i disconnected the Car Battery to make a Hardrest in the Intellilink and again no success.
Confusing was that last thursday on the way home, past 20min of connection and driving it suddenly started in my car and i could use everything as usually (Voice, Maps, Spotify).
But when i arrived home and disconnected the smartphone to try it once more it didn't started.
Till Today i didn't get it to work and i dont know what problem it could be or what else i can do.
The galaxy isn't rooted i don't want to root it.
Once i had a similar problem and some App updates fixed the problem so i'll wait for an update from "Android Auto", "Google-Play-Service" and the "Google App" to try it this way before resetting the galaxy to factory settings.
But I hope that someone can help me and has another idea what i can try to do.
with best regards
xman1985
I have the same issue with my s9 on my astra. I might have a solution. Every time u connect your phone to your car and the after the notification in your phone comes saying android auto is connected go to photo gallery, search for any random video if u have in your app. Play it n hit back/return key on your phone. Yes its a bit of a struggle but mine one works every time i do this . Looks like a bug

Hi ive found out today that downgrading your aa to
4.6.593334-release (arm64-v8a works without going to gallary app n playing a video. But first just clear data of your aa before unintalling it than intall the above mentioned ver from apkmirror . Com. Have a nice day
