Likelyhood of the Sprint G4 getting Nougat? - Sprint LG G4

I have heard of no reliable source that says anything about the Sprint G4 getting Nougat at all. Closest thing I have heard is the G3 getting it.
Anyone heard anything reliable?
What is even worse is that LG's own support site for the G4 Spring says ZVA is the latest firmware for the Sprint G4 like year old news..........which is not true. I suspect LG does this so they can trick more people into updating their device to a point where they can no-longer root.

Will we ever have root or custom ROMs

I was just curious about the current state in android development the LGG4 was for Sprint.
Thanks!

they already have root. they just haven't released it because they say "it's not safe". I don't get what that has to do with anything. Everybody installs custom roms and twrp and roots their device and does all kinds of modifications already knowing that there's a chance that they can completely brick their device. I don't get why they don't release the beta of the root and whoever bricks their device is liable to their own mistakes.
Maybe by not safe, they mean that it's somehow unpredictable or something, where even if you follow the guide perfectly, there is a chance you get bricked if the planets aren't aligned or something...
They are just tired of getting blamed for people being stupid. No matter how many disclaimers they put out, some people are just jacka$$e$ and will still flame and blame.
The phone has been out for a month, calm down.
Patience if it involves a tedious process then it's better to wait, trust me it would be brick city all over the place. The best thing to do is wait because asking when stuff is not ready piss alot of people off that's trying to get it working for everyone.
So it's been almost 6 months. Is this something we can expect eventually? If not I'm considering selling my device and getting something that has roms available.

good luck with that on sprint.
The only unlocked boot loader phone on sprint is the HTC M9. Which is much less of a phone than this one.
Marshmallow is making it even more difficult even with unlocked bootloader.
Your best chance is T-mobile. V10 is nice.
I have M9 and G4. Tried t-mobile with v10 and it didn't have coverage I needed. But if they do for you, it's your best option.

I agree T-Mobile has no coverage for menas well that's why I came to sprint..an the v10 is nice I messed around with it at tmo but sprint doesn't have it..even tho sprint doesn't have bootloader unlocked there r 2 roks that r nice
My work phone is Tmobile so I know i have coverage. But I need to stay with sprint for the unlimited data for my personal phone. I'll look in to the M9 altho i had the old m7 and it was underwhelming.

I thought the M7 was a great phone for it's time. M8 was an ok upgrade. M9 was basically an M8.
It's a solid phone, my wife has it. But screen is too small and camera is really lacking compared to G4.
At this point I'd just wait and see what HTC releases for an M9 replacement. I really hope to be wowed.
I really like wireless charging and SD card. I don't care about removable batteries.
Hopefully soon the phones will be more universal like Nexus and iPhone.
I'd consider a Nexus 6P but no SD Card and no wireless charging. Kind of too big too.

Marshmallow 6.0 Update for T-Mo G4

I'm glad to hear the G4 is purportedly going straight to Android M 6.0 from 5.1. Based on the expected November release of Marshmallow, what kind of time frame should we expect for an LG and eventually T-Mobile update for our G4's this time around?
Like any other carrier... Probably 2017 when" N" is released.. Lol... Seriously.

Probably Q1 2016 at the earliest, personally I'm going back to either a Nexus 6 (they;'ll be easy to get and cheap) or the new Nexus 5 2015 simply for M..
Plus the trade-off of root. Most likely I am switching until then.
Good news on the M update. Looks close to coming out. Any delays will be on T-Mobile as LG already made the ROM.

People have already rooted android m so it will probably be made by a awesome dev pre rooted or at least a simple way to re root

Q1 2016?
Anyone heard any rumors on when T-mobile is planning on completing this update? I know we have the t-mobile page but it still says MFG development.
Gotta be mobile posted an article on 1/4 saying it was expected before 1/10 from T-mobile, but I haven't heard that anywhere else. It certainly isn't imminent.

Wow.. this is the very first time I've seen any mentions of a date of any kind. I'm not sure how credible they are, since I've never actually heard of this site.
I've been tweeting with @TmobileUSA and seems like they are clueless. I asked when can we expect and got a reply saying "still in manufacturer development" I told them LG released it over a month ago and Sprint already rolled out the MM update and simply shushed me away by saying "we don't have any information regarding the update"
So don't bother asking their "friendly reps" they have outdated information.
That being said, I can only hope soon since T-Mobile is the first carrier in US announced that they will update the phone, it would be embarrassing if they release after all other carriers have it.

shows that my phone is up to date. no MM for my H811 just yet.
Sprint G4 has 6.0, and US Cellular got 6.0 this week.... maybe soon.
I read somewhere that the new update is messing with WiFi calling features on TMO. Not sure if accurate info or not.

G4 Bootlooped, what's Sprint's current option

When I am able to take it into Sprint, does anyone (preferably someone who's taken their device to Sprint recently) know what they will do? It looks like they no longer sell this device, so will they just send it to LG? Do they upgrade me to a G5? Or will they do something entirely different?

you have to go through lg themselves for quikest turn around.
lg waranty
I had my second G4 bootloop a couple weeks ago. It depends if you're on contract or leasing. If leasing you can buy out the lease and get something else. If on contract they'll replace the G4. I got another G4 in three days so apparently they still have them in stock.

Canadian LG G5 (Model H831) confirmed not rootable

After exhaustive searching, I've come to the conclusion that my brand spanking new G5 on the Rogers network cannot be rooted. Looks like I'll have to move south of the border to get a US model.
Does the EU model with the official bootloader unlock not work on Canadian networks? That would be preferable to a US model and a root that might not work after version updates.
@Kudalufi, that might work but it's too much of an unknown for me. I read somewhere along the way that the Canadian LTE frequency bands are unique to Canada. And although I can't see how that would affect a rooting attempt, I'm not going to risk it. A good thought though, thanks anyway.
I find that hard to believe... in 10 years I haven't had a phone that these dudes at XDA haven't figured out... the G4 was a pain but the root was still out there.
Fair enough. But - for me - the potential headaches of rooting this particular phone outweigh the benefits. If I can find a no muss no fuss solution, wonderful and I'll take it. And if I can't get it, that's cool too. In that case, I'll go hang out with my buddies or play with my kids instead

Unfortunately only the handsets THAT LG.. in their wisdom.. deem "unlockable"(EU/European).. will ever have a fully unlockable bootloader.
Unless anyone finds a way.. that so far through all research.. has been for the most part.. A dead end, there will be no rooting ?
The G5 is long past it's new and exciting phase. The root experts have moved on to better pickings. Platforms where rooting will get them attention, money, fame, and wimmin.
I'm relatively certain there will be no general root for the G5. Which is a shame, because this lost LG my business.

i can guarantee you that the big companies like rogers, at&t, etc. offered LG money to have the bootloader locked. and LG, like the idiotic company that it is, accepted.
what is the real difference between the european G5s and the north american G5s? the t-mobile and the factory unlocked US versions(just recently released) can have their bootloaders unlocked. why can't the rest?
my first LG phone and my last. i'm actually thinking of selling this great phone.
By definition carrier never liked root-able phone as they are bearing the risk whatever are the terms, if your phone brick you may ultimately move somewhere else and cost them money in the process.
Whatever we agree on this is or not is not the point, they do prefer locked phone, a lot of the hardware manufacturer also prefer to see their hardware installed inside locked handset this is why some camera are not as good on the rooted version than the locked version (they protect the firmware that work only fully on locked handset)
As far as I know LG never sold the G5 claiming they would support unlocking boot loader on all the SKU... I will always prefer an unlocked device over a locked one. I bought mine used and it was a good deal, but I would not purchase a new phone at full price if it is locked. Some company are better in this regard. Unlocking should be a matter of choice for any non-subsidized model.

I had an H840 that cannot be unlocked, I spent countless hours searching online and following spam tutorials to get it unlocked but no luck. In the end I sold it on eBay hoping to get about £200 for it but to my surprise I sold it for £264 and I bought a used H850 for £240. Now I have a rooted device.
Has anyone tried Magisk?
Try this for bootloader unlock, can't hurt..

The reason Canadian G4 has root, is because there was a loophole in the Android 5.0 software that allowed you to do some code injection and root it without unlocking the bootloader. But that was patched in Canadian G4 6.0. And the G5 came even later, so for sure the loophole has been patched. Now, bootloader is everything, and if it is not unlocked, you're out of luck when it comes to gaining root access.

As far as I've read it should work almost everywhere as I've saw the frequencies on first eye.

Scroll down to the specs and compare it to the frequency the country you are living in/want to visit has.

Thinking of buying V40. Custom font and other questions

You can get a used v40 in supposedly A grade condition now on eBay for just under $200. Seems like a good deal. Is this phone still a good buy? Big OLED screen with great audio. I'm going to take a huge hit in battery life though because on my previous phone xiaomi a3 I got 12 hrs screen on time, easily.
I read through the various threads and I'm resigned to the fact that I'm unlikely to be able to root this phone. There is one thing I must have, though: to be able to change the system font, specifically to Google Sans, i.e. a font I sideload and not one of the sanctioned fonts you get from the LG store. Is this possible to do without root?
Also, can I update the firmware with the one on LG's website or does it have to be the firmware from the carrier?
Thanks
PS the phone is it originally a Sprint phone but is now supposedly unlocked

Im not sure what you mean but there is a way to root and must be on pie but youll need to use qfil from qualcomn. LG's page is only up to date for their us unlocked phone only
