Upgrading to latest firmware - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I currently have a Rooted AT&T Android version 5.0, SM-N900A NOTE 3 and would like to know my options for upgrading to the latest firmware version? official or unofficial. What would be my best options, or would it be best just to leave my phone where it is at now? Let me know if any other info about my phone is needed, Thanks!

Is the Resurrection Remix supported for my phone?

If the phone is running a stock 5.0 rom, the bootloader is locked and cannot run any custom roms unless the roms are based on the stock Samsung rom.

I had the Stock 5.0 Rom at one point, but i had to downgrade to 4.4 to install an already rooted 5.0. Does this mean my bootloader is locked? How can i find out?

I tried this but nothing is coming up after inputting:
Dial *#*#7378423#*#* . Then go to -> "Service Info" -> "Configuration". If there is:
Bootloader unlock allowed - Yes << this means that your Bootloader is Locked
Bootloader Unlocked - Yes << this means that your bootloader is unlocked

Also, when I first turn on my phone from a reboot, i see an open lock that says "Custom" Does that mean bootloader is unlocked? or does it just mean its rooted?

I got to the Download mode from boot and it shows: qualcomm secureboot: enable (csb)
Does that mean anything?

Yes, the open lock means the bootloader is unlocked; however, you may need to use safestrap to install ROMs but I'm not 100% sure as I had a note 3 which can accept TWRP.

[Q] If we can root, can change system, why can not change kernel or recovery partition

I am a rookie,sorry.
I believe you can't change the kernel because the (locked) bootloader checks a cryptographic signature on the boot partition before it'll boot it.
You can replace the recovery partition, I thought, but during a cold boot the boot scripts rebuild it from the boot partition. (See /init.rc calling /system/etc/install-recovery.sh although I have no such file on my running phone, I presume it's erased or over-mounted...)
That's why you can battery-pull if your replacement recovery is broken, as long as it doesn't prevent reaching that far into /init.rc...

Because the Droid 3 bootloader is locked down unlike the original Droid 1. Without a unlocked bootloader it is impossible for custom kernels or fully custom recoveries.
Does this also mean we will be unable to flash the new Linux 3.0 kernel (where ICS runs on)? No idea if that would matter though..

We already have ICS booting on D3... it will be a couple months until there is a decent beta available though.

The only way to change the kernel is with an official update from Motorola or an unlocked bootloader. The ICS we will likely see first for this phone will be a custom build (Hashcode) which will be built on the the kernel we currently have.

According to the kernel version in Hashcodes ICS build it actually is different than our stock kernel. Not saying that is the kernel that will be in ICS (or if its truely different) but it is indeed a different #

Once you have root you can uninstall all Vodafone apps and bloatware.
First we had plenty threads abt when 4.3 /4.4 or wisdom 1.0 would be coming to da world. Then we have even more threads abt 4.3 being here. Now we are going to top it up with 153 x asking in new threads abt the same question regarding rooting 4.3. :good:

[Q] TWRP 2.8.6 + cm-12.1-20150501-NIGHTLY [STUCK]

Hello all,
I did the following to my XT1064
1. Unlocked my bootloader
2. Upgraded my bootloader to the latest as given here.
3. Installed TWRP 2.8.6
3. Installed cm-12.1-20150501-NIGHTLY
4. Now, stuck in CM boot animation (flashing halo)
5. Also, touch has stopped working in recovery.
P.S. After unlock+upgrade+twrp, i was able to use the phone with stock and touch was working
in twrp. It was only after installing CM, the problem has started.
I tried the power up, wait until screen turns black and touch the screen. No luck! So, flashed twrp again. Still same issue.
Any pointers?
Did you clean flash?

Yes. I was able to get touch working in TWRP by flashing stock 4.4.4 system.img alone.
I did factory reset in TWRP. Installed CM. Wiped Cache/DalvikCache and rebooted to CM.
But, it still gets stuck in the boot animation.
What is the last stable CM 12.1 for titan?

Before flashing CM were you on stock kitkat or LP?
If you were on kikat you must first boot up stock lollipop and then you can flash cm.
Anyway which the version of your bootloader?

Bootloader:4882
I was on stock kitkat. Stock lollipop is not available for my XT1064(CID:14). I don't know whether
I can flash stock lollipop with different CID. If I can, I will give it a try.

I suppose that your phone is canadian, so if I'm right take a look to this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/guide-lollipop-xt1064-north-edition-t2955076
Thanks. I already saw that thread and used their fsg and modem images. Otherwise, I couldn't get network connection. Anyways, I will flash the US XT1064 before installing CM 12.1 again.
OK. Installing and booting stock lollipop and then installing CM-12.1-20150502 was successful. Touch screen works!!!

OEM unlock toggle grayed out after emui 9 upgrade

I'm in a bit of a pickle here.
I have ran the update for emui via twrp
Then ran clean system os reset
In fastboot menu the Phone is unlicked but other one isnt.
OEM unlock inf grayed out says to contact to network which i am. Twrp is no longer installed and im unable to downgrade or even re-root the device.
Any ideas?
Would have recommended to read the various threads about Emui 9 already posted here before you decided to upgrade. Currently there is no working twrp and no working root available for Emui 9. It is easy to brick the phone if you try to force install twrp and root it.
OEM unlock is now disabled by default on all Huawei phones running Pie to discourage rooting.
For the time being just use the phone as it is. If you really want to downgrade then there is guide here:

Nice one thanks a lot.
I have unlocked the bootloader prior to upgrade, does that mean that it's locked again?

Verizon Moto E5 Play XT1921-6 (James), can't unlock bootloader

Hi everyone.
I'm following the instructions in order to get TWRP on my phone and flash Resurrection Remix Oreo, but I'm not being able to unlock the bootloader.
I get the "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking." message at the Motorola unlocking website
Does this have anything to do with Verizon? Their E5 Play isn't unlockable at the moment?
I should get 5 strings of unlock data, but instead I get the "Unlock data:" text in the first line, and then 4 more. Is this something that should happen?

Verizon-branded phones cannot be bootloader unlocked. Has always been this way.
You cannot flash a custom ROM with a locked bootloader.

I was referring to Verizon's Moto phones. The Verizon-branded Pixel/XL had a workaround to allow BL unlock, as did the Pixel 2 for a short period of time (was patched in an update). But the Verizon-branded Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 3s still cannot be bootloader unlocked.
I am having the same issue, however can you root a phone without unlocking the bootloader?
