Hello there,
Great forum you guys have here.
I will be receiving my Diamond on Thursday from Orange. I have some questions and would be very grateful for your help and advice. I have looked across the site for answers but there's so much info it's difficult to know where to start!
Firstly, I understand I may need to flash the ROM to improve speed. Speed is very important to me and so should I need to do this, what ROM would you recommend - something simple, offering a good balance between memory consumption and speed please. Does the official HTC update help at all?
Secondly, what do I need to do to preserve the original ROM, just in case I need to get it back in order to return the phone.
Thirdly, can you provide me with a link that clearly explains the process of updating the ROM as i've never done anything like this before.
If there's anything else i've missed (such as settings changes - I know I should get rid of the Orange homepage in favour of HTC's for instance), please tell me - i'm eager to have my Diamond adequately set-up ASAP.
Thanks for your time & patience,
S.
well i got my diamond from orange a few weeks ago and i would like to know the same. The one thing i can tell you that it comes with rom 1.37 WWE and not the orange version which I thought was weird, the quick start book even shows the diamond with the orange rom. So if your the safe then you wont get a rom ruined by orange
Excellent, I hope the Diamond I receive is the same. I hate Orange extensions!
check out http://www.modmydiamond.info
Very useful site.
Thank you! Seems like a useful site...
Can anyone suggest what ROM to go for or a guide that details/reviews ROMS?
Thanks,
S
read , read & then read some more.
there are way too many ROMS to recommend.
workout what you wnat from a ROM then go find it.
i now this attitude sounds a bit tough but in the end you will gain invaluable knowledge about your phone along the way

I have to agree!
I was once a newb to WinMob (only about a month ago) and I hadn't a clue... I read, read and read and now I up updating roms, radios and installing apps like a good thing!
My own personal preference for a ROM is SwiftBL 5.6 - its super slick and includes loads of apps like GSen, Advanced Config, etc.... very nice app! You'll find it in the ROMs secion!
Enjor your phone!

right o
if you go to the official HTC site you will get a download to the newest official htc rom 1.93 i think which will improve the phone speed no end - it is also easy to install (follow instructions on site). just make sure you backup everything first!
trust me it turned my phone from unusable to a godsend! and its official rom
Thanks for the replies. I will attempt reading the wealth of info available on this site, but i'm swept off my feet with work at the moment. So any concise info from you guys will really help me to get my diamond running well ASAP during this busy time. I have however read the guides on how to install the ROM at least and will get stuck in properly when things calm down.
Would you say that the latest official HTC ROM is faster than swift 6.0?
Thanks again,
S.

But you cannot download from HTC if you have an operator supplied device.
Oh! Damn. Oh well, I guess it's gonna have to be Swift or another ROM then...
guys, i cant wait to install custom ROM on my tattoo. i hardly congratulate those who worked really hard in getting this tattoo rooted...
but whats the real use when we cant play with this little device without exploiting it fully .....
sorry if i am humiliating all those who are actively involved in the development, but i am little more curious like rest of us. hence i am asking this question here....
roughly how long it will take to produce custom ROM after rooting a device ???
Expect an average development time between two days and one year but it might differ plus/minus 20%...
I understand your impatience but asking things that are already written elsewhere because the truth is reluctantly to believe ("nobody knows how long it will take") doesn't speed up anything! We don't write "We don't know" because we think it is funny to know more then the rest...

Could you tell us what is needed for a custom rom? I'm new in android hacking, or mobile hacking in general. All I know is that for WinMo devices you'll need a hardSPL, application unlock and a RUU.
I think there will be less questions if we know what we're waiting for. Time is, at least for me, not really a question since there are numerous wonderful developers here and we all follow progress in the other threads.
For the tattoo we now have root access and r/w access to the file system. What else is needed? A new boot loader, a flash utility, kitchen?
I tried to find it elsewhere in the forum but information is scarce and/or scattered so it's quite hard to find out what is going on. Most information I found are howto's, but what we actually want here in this stage of development are whyto's .
Please, enlighten us

To easily flash ROMs, we'd need a S-OFF Bootloader and also a custom recovery that enables us to actually flash the ROM to the phone.
However, since HTC tried to play 'god' with our Tattoo/Click and bar off any root exploits or custom ROMs, it's tricky. We've had to play around with root, and now we've got the system partition writable, soon we can get flash_image to work.
Myself, I expect to cook a community ROM (CoburnROM 360) when we've got all the tools in place.
Online kitchen/automated tools like the Relentless Rom Roaster is a plus, but not a essential item to have on your arsenal. Real Devs use Linux and the command line!
Now, it's just a matter of playing the wait game. Dream about all the customizations in a ROM you'd like, and when the day has come (it most likely happen in the near future! ), we can plop the update.zip on the MicroSD, reboot into (custom) recovery and let the fun begin.
This is exactly the reason why I'm holding off with making root permanent on mt phone. I'll wait till everything becomes stable and more can be done with root, i.e. installing custom ROMs.

Good idea. Mine at the moment is temp root, I jsut run the exploit and do the export commands to get a shell, instead of hardwriting su in my Tattoo.
is the custom ROM ready ??? i want to test it on my tattoo simultaneously i wanna root it at that time itself... so if you succeed in preparing cooked ROM, pls post it here for testing.
i will test it for you.... cant wait for its release... keeping my fingers crossed coburn.....

The more you refuse to spend even 3 or 4 minutes to read through the forum, the longer you will have to wait for a custom ROM because you are stealing our time to develop one because we have to answer senseless posts. This time I won't post the link you are looking for because it will take you around 10 seconds to find Coburn64's thread - its just one view!
-bm-
@bm, there is no link for downloading a custom ROM buddy, i saw coburn's thread..... but there is no mention of when we can expect custom ROM.....
anyway, i thought you might be knowing the approximate date.... ok, i will wait till you receive.... dont waste your time.... carry on with your good work. i appreciate your contribution towards this project..... keep up the good work bro...

Hello Everyone, I am new around here.
So about a week ago I got my first ever Android phone (after spending years on iOS) I am extremely happy with the Sony Xperia Z1, it just blows iPhones and iOS away, Let me get to the point haha.
I have done a long and painful process of:
1. Flashing Old Firmware.
2. Rooting.
3. Updating again.
4. Unlocking Bootloader.
So I'm at stage 5 now, I would like to install CyanogenMod. On the site it says C6902 But I have a C6903, will this make a difference? and if so are their any better alternatives to CyanogenMod?
Since I am inexperienced in all this Android and rooting etc (Long time iOS Jailbreak User) I would appreciate if somebody could point me in the right direction on where to go from here. I don't want to brick my shiny new device but I also want to give the device some customization.
Many thanks, I hope everyone had a great Christmas.
Happy new year!
I found out you can install CM on C6903 but a lot of things are broken, the Camera is broken on all levels, but C6903 is supported.
Also try and use the search button for answers, I only recently asked the same question about 8 hours ago.

If you're still having problems reply here. I see you bricked your phone, sorry about that! Always take caution when cross flashing, etc. Did you back up everything to an SD card?

I'm trying again now, I fixed the brick by using Flashtool
So now I need to figure out where to get rom.zip and gapps.zip also where would I put them before attempting to flash the cyanogen boot loader again?
Cheers

Good, you know I wouldn't try and get CM on C6903... even though people say it's possible, the issues with it are many. I personally haven't seen anyone put CM on a C6903 device yet... and like I said, the amount of problems with it wouldn't make it fun.
What are you looking for that's so special about CM?

I am enthusiastic about trying something new, Basically I have never tried CyanogenMod before so I would like to chance it and if things go too wrong then I will flash back using Flashtool.
Also Its nice to know this so once the CM becomes more stable I can install it again in the future.
Sorry if im a nuisance, I really appreciate the help

Nearly all development for the Honami goes into CM11, which hasn't been graduated to nightlies just yet, meaning that there are no up-to-date builds available at the moment, FXP252 was supposed to be the first release of Honami CM11, but it wasn't deemed ready for it at this stage.
First things first, I want to say hello and I want to apologize in advance for asking questions which were probably answered at least 100 times so far, but I just can't find my way around this forum. I also want to say that today is the first time that I got an Android mobile phone of my own, so bear with me.
I have spent 3 hours on google trying to find out things by myself, but it left me with even more questions than answers.
What I want to know is how to make my phone as fast / efficient as possible.
I just got a Samsung Galaxy GT-I9000, running 2.3.3 Firmware version and I9000XXJVO Baseband Version.
Which is the newest version of firmware I can use and how do I install it? What programs does it require, and how much time does it take to do?
Even just linking me a step by step guide / thread where it was explained would be GREATLY appreciated.
Again, I want to say that I have 0 experience with Androids, but hey, there is a first time for everything, right?
Many thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to help me.
Android 2.3 is "ancient" now.
If you want something more up to date, and faster, you'll need to install a custom ROM.
Don't rush into it, especially if you need your phone as a phone every day. Take some time to learn.
The latest custom/AOSP ROMs are Kitkat 4.4.
Most popular is CM11. Start reading here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526478
Hello Everyone, I'm completely new here as a member, but have been lurking around for some time. Long story short - I want to flash a new rom but have no idea onto which would be better, the three candidates are:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/orig-development/rom-jaguar-arise-lp-5-1-1-official-t3481937
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/orig-development/cr-5-1-carbonrom-t3529766
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/xz3c-x-p-e-r-e-n-c-e-r-o-m-t3513378
And I have no idea which would be best, fastest, most stable etc. as a daily driver. Also While reading around I couldn't find any information on any of these about how they handle the camera fisheye issue. So I ask you, XDA community, help me decide which should I use as my daily driver?
P.S. I have little to no flashing experience (flashed once, samsung galaxy young) so a guide of sorts (or maybe links?) would greatly appreciated.
For the first two you need an unlocked bootloader, and since you have no expirience with flashing sony mobiles start with third rom and build your knowledge ontop of that

That would make sense, but I'm more than willing to learn if it's worthwhile, the main issue is if effort is equal to gains. Also, I am reluctant to commit yet as my last flashing experience did take way too much time and before going there i want to make sure I can essentially "flash and forget" enjoying the new experience.
Thanks for the advice though!
Then going for the custom stock rom is the best choice, I'am now on AOXP and it was the best for me, I suggest looking it up
