So loving the phone so far but my download speeds seem to be throttled when downloading on the Play store. <500kb/s consistently. other apps that require additional files download fine and streaming content is unaffected. It seems to be a common problem but i cant find a solution anyone else experiencing this ?
At first i thought it was my internet was going through a slow moment, but then i noticed the speeds never got better, I also have my note 5 which downloads from the play store at 10 mb/s so.

i know what u talking about my friend ! I got same issue with my mi5 pro. And I didn't fix that. It just some apps downloading good and some super slow...and it doesn't matter how speedy your wifi. Also chase bank is not working and some other apps will not. US and China is fighting with each other or what ever it is sir. The other roms will not help too.....until Cyanogen maybe. Damn I was about to pay 1.5k for the device and you remind all that sh!t I was faced to.
Best Regards
Avi
Seem to remember my wives note pro doing the same thing, then found out it had a vendor rom, once I took the chance and flashed genuine rom all was good. Where did you download playstore from? I had better results using Xiaomi google installer from their own store.
Yah the eBay seller installed the global rom for me including the play store. Maybe I should try installing it myself.
Mine does the same thing, and I'm pretty sure I have a vendor Rom on it as well. I figured it had to do with the Locale setting as it defaults to China and there is no United States listed.
But now that I have all my apps moved over its not as much of an issue, but it is pretty strange.
Is it the Play Store throttling? or something else on the phone maybe?
I installed the latest EU Rom and it has worked very well for me. No download issues in Play Store and actually being able to set wallpapers and lock screen compared to when I was on the China Rom. Plus, I can set locale to US with the EU.

I was having problems with slow downloads as well and it went away when I disabled the download accelerator in the MI APP STORE (which seems to try to point to some server in China which doesn't work well from the USA).
APP STORE, Account, Downloads, click on the to right (3 dots), settings and shut off "Xunlei download engine) and set "downloading using mobile data is" to unlimited.
Once I did this, it fixed my problems with the Google Play Store (as well as an updates from the MI app store).
Not sure if this will help but you can give it a try

I have the original China rom too, and turning off the MI app setting didn't help me at all.
What version of google play services are you running?
I didn't have the Mi App Store installed at all on whatever rom I had on this phone, But I find it odd that only Google Play gets throttled, and not all the time either. I even tried installing the Mi App Store separately, but unfortunately it won't even launch on my phone.
So can we assume that there is some sort of redirect in the phone somewhere for just the Play Store? Or is the Play Store picking up our locale and redirecting itself?
Just trying to get some more info to track this down, I hope nothing else is being routed through Chinese servers.
So I finally installed the EU Stable rom. Got rooted, disabled everything Xiaomi related, nothing in my running tasks is different from standard android.
Google Play is still being throttled to around 500K/s. But not all the time..
Could this be something on Googles end? Is there any sort of network monitor that might show it using some sort of proxy? Nothing else on the phone is slow, just the Play Store...
It's never googles end. freeze the download manager or disable it from apps, long time since I used xiaomi, thats about to change.

It's starting to look like the issue is in the DownloadProvider.apk. It sounds like people with the EU Dev rom don't have this issue.
If someone on the EU Dev rom could post their DownloadProvider.apk that would be awesome. /system/priv-app/DownloadProvider is the location...

Have any of you been able to successfully install the Google Earth app on the Galaxy Note? I put the APK in and installed it, it opens but freezes on the opening screen...
Works fine on my Nexus though. If I go to the Android Market it shows that it is not available in my country so I cant download it. Strange that it works on my Nexus, though Google Earth was pre-installed in it.
Works fine for me.... I'm in the U.S. just downloaded it and played around to make sure.... I think I'm keeping it on here!

I'm not in the U.S.A. and I'm thinking it's more of an Android Market geographic restriction, and not hardware related. I have a Nexus that has it pre-installed and works perfectly.
I'm going to give the apk install another try and post back with results.
EDIT- update. installed it, but again, same results. laggy, and my phone was getting insanely hot after about 10 minutes of trying to use it. uninstalled.

Hoi, and also works fine here in Germany. Install, Start, and the blue (here are you point) shows my home place.
Wow, seems like I'm the only one with the issues.
Did you guys get Google Earth straight from the market, or was it installed manually?
Google earth working fine here ln Australia, I got mine from market
I could never get it to obtain a GPS lock. German imported version in the US. Every other GPS app works fine. Strange.. I'll try again - deleted after frustration weeks ago.
Works fine here in India installed with the market enabler there's probably just something wrong with you're apk
i don't want to root my phone, so i can't use market enabler.
i tried installing the apk file again (google earth 6.1) and same thing. it installs fine, i am able to open the app itself.
however, it will stay on the opening screen (earth in space with stars) with the rotating circle for minutes, then finally run but very laggy.
i'll try another apk and see if there's any improvement.
EDIT / UPDATE: tried another apk and now everything is smooth as butter. thanks!

Since updating from Market to Google Play Store, I have been having different issues with it.
There are alot of Force Closes, a lot of apps 'Are not avaialable on my country..." and what is mostly making me mad, is that it has stopped working since 2 days.
It shows 'Server Error |Retry|'
I have read a lot about this and it seems like Google has made it unavailable to some countries.
Some other usesrs of different phones, have already fixed the issue by creating an app called 'MarketEnabler.apk" I tried installing that app on my Mini, but it doesnt install, reboots my phone in the process.
They seem to have another option for those with unrooted phones, which by connecting to a VPN server.
I also tried that in my brothers unrooted Mini, but it didnt work too.
I would like to know if others have this issue too and if they can help fixing this ..
Thanks for your time.
Google play have new security features and it checks the app compatibility in an advanced manner in newer version there are many compatibility check which will show most of apps unavailable so please downgrade the version of market
Try removing the update (in applications -> all -> market).
Or you could try wiping the application's data. Settings> applications> manage applications> google play store (under all)> clear data.

I got a phone a couple of days ago, and Market still not working.
So, it's a country thing ?
reinstall Gapps and wipe data
re-install Google play store then wipe data
Try changing your 'Local' settings to the default, load market, close it, set Local settings back and try again. (if the stock language is the one you're using, try switching to something else)
None worked.
Fortunately Google decided to fix this issue and everyone in my country has now a working Google Play.
Oh and by the way, it seems they have decided to once again change its name, now it is Google Play Shop

You don't like the new, slower Google Play Marketplace?
Do you want the older, faster Android Marketplace?
Well let's get started!
Actually, this solution exists for a pretty long time already, and I couldn't find a guide on XDA so I made one myself
It's very easy, actually. You have to follow these simple steps:
1. Make sure Google Play is not running in background. If so, kill it with task manager.
2. Download App Quarantine ROOT/FREEZE from HERE (Play Store)
3. Disconnect from the internet (Disable 3G/4G/WiFi) and go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Play Store > Uninstall Updates / Clear Cache
4. Open up App Quarantine and freeze the Market Updater. (You may want to reboot your phone after you froze the app!)
5. Re-Enable WiFi or 3G/4G (Whatever you use for internet ) And browse the Marketplace with the old app
This was tested on the Samsung Galaxy Mini running the GB 2.3.5 ROM (Stock)
Have fun!

Did that happen after you have used this tutorial or before Google Play existed? It works just fine on my phone, sometimes it says the download has failed but it still installs the app anyway :silly:
I just flashed the stable Chinese ROM and gapps. Trying to install applications but every applications comes up with a notification saying "this app is very large" and gives me acheck box to download using only wifi. I already went to downloads and set my limit to unlimited. Not sure why this is happening for every app.
Also, when browsing my previously installed apps, it keeps asking me to reauthenticate my account.
Edit: when i restarted my phone, playstore only works on wifi now.
Should I disable the Xunlei download engine?
Edit 2: it just downloaded half an app and then stopped itself.

The large app message isn't limited to this phone,I've seen it on my other devices,IDK what the threshold is for a "large" app, but,as you,I have seen it pop-up more now than before. Even w/the d/l on any connection selected,I still see it as well...........
As for your download issues,I see you've moved on to a better ROM to where there is no problem with the Play Store ............................. :good:

I'm using a Note9 that's only a month old. The last 2 days, any app updates or new apps I'm trying to download get stuck at 99% (sometimes 100%). Things I've tried so far:
* Resetting the Play Store to default and deleting data/cache
* Wiping the cache of the whole phone
* Disabling the Google app (per suggestions I found elsewhere)
* Uninstalling Nova Launcher (per suggestions)
* Wiping the cache/data of the Download Manager
It's driving me up the wall. No idea what to try. Any advice?
This is the same issues I've been having, especially since updating to Android Pie. Only small fix I found was just closing all apps and run Device Care on a download, then it worked. I don't know if this is an actual fix though.

I am not.
I've ran into this problem but only when having a unstable Wi-Fi connection. Specifically a bad power supply on the router.
And a lot of business wifi like in hospitals and stuff they have blocking software to keep the employees from watching movies and game of thrones and things like!

Only Google.
I'm experiencing this problem as well (Samsung Galaxy Note 10+). This started happening 2 days ago.
Also, another strange thing is happening: The Blue light filter, and Digital Wellbeing grayscale filter, are not starting/stopping at the correct times, they are delayed (sometimes by hours).
The worst part is, my previous phone (Galaxy Note 8) had the exact same issue(s). I endured it for a long time. I was excited to ditch the Note 8 for a phone that worked... Oh well
I generated a debug log, and I'm combing through it now. I don't understand everything I'm looking at.
Here are some attempted fixes, that did _not_ fix the issue on the Note 8:
* Clearing the Google Play store and services caches.
* Removing my Google account, then signing back in.
* Factory reset, then reinstalling everything from scratch. (The issue started happening again, within 1 day.)

Thank you very much!
I double-checked that apps were unable to update (Netflix was stuck at "77%"). I disabled the Google app, and restarted the phone. I left Google disabled.
... Netflix took longer to update (it stalled at "77%" again), but it did finish successfully. Now the other apps are downloading and installing! Nice. Hopefully this is a permanent (or at least reproducible) solution to the issue.
Do you know *why* the Google app would be interfering with app updates? I'm genuinely curious.

Yes i disabled it, but that must be related to another issue. my girlfriend has the same s8 and no issues. Must be related to multiple google accounts or something that differs from my phone to hers.
Perhaps fully off-topic or just the solution, did you disable or remove Chrome? I know my Note 9 shows similar behaviour when I debloat and remove Chrome. Once I updated the WebView app all runs fine. So I always update WebView before anything else. But then again I only notice this behaviour once I remove or disable Chrome browser.
