Play store keeps saying every app is very large - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

I just flashed the stable Chinese ROM and gapps. Trying to install applications but every applications comes up with a notification saying "this app is very large" and gives me acheck box to download using only wifi. I already went to downloads and set my limit to unlimited. Not sure why this is happening for every app.
Also, when browsing my previously installed apps, it keeps asking me to reauthenticate my account.
Edit: when i restarted my phone, playstore only works on wifi now.
Should I disable the Xunlei download engine?
Edit 2: it just downloaded half an app and then stopped itself.

The large app message isn't limited to this phone,I've seen it on my other devices,IDK what the threshold is for a "large" app, but,as you,I have seen it pop-up more now than before. Even w/the d/l on any connection selected,I still see it as well...........
As for your download issues,I see you've moved on to a better ROM to where there is no problem with the Play Store ............................. :good:

I didn't have that problem but I have moved to EU rom definitely disable the downloader.

I can't speak for the OP,but it sounds as if he's already done that.Same here.
It's not a crippling bug by any stretch, but, just a curiosity as to why/what keeps triggering it.

It is a setting in the DL manager. I can't search for it right now but a simple Google search for "MIUI play store nag" will tell you how to turn it off.

[Q] Can't download any from market

I have rooted captivate. since yesterday I can't download or update anything from market. It keeps saying 'starting downloads' and happens nothing. Even sometimes it says your item will be downloaded but again happens nothing.
I use black market too. Does it make my 'market' fail now? I don't have a clue...please help me.
Hey try re flashing the rom you have and see if that works, its worked for me before.

Make sure the Google Talk services are running.
Steps to try:
1) Clear market data, retry downloads.
2) Depending on the rom you are on, Froyo build, you may not have a unique Android ID. If this is the case, download Android ID Changer and change the ID to something other than seen. Next time you flash stock, get your unique Android ID and write it down so you can use in the future.
Good luck.
I didn't get Froyo yet, and I just rooted in order to get the permission of installing apps freely. so I didn't do anything with roms. And I realized that Google talk is not working. I never played that app becuase I'm using kakaotalk. It says signing in...but nothing happens. How can I erase maket data then. I think I should have study more before rooting. How does goolge talk running related to market?

Both the market and Google talk use this service called
Google Talk Service (or something like that)
If you use a program that blocks startup programs make sure both google talk and its service are greenlisted. In addition try to stop using any task killers to see if that is the problem.
And the massage "Sorry! The process com.google.process. gapps has stopped unexpectedly. please try again." comes out from time to time with 'force close' button.
What does it mean?

I think it is tied to GMail sync which is also tied to the Google Talk service I believe.
I uninstalled apps have chances auto killing that process. They are one click lag, auto killer memory, but nothing changed after rebooting. Even the same error message came out as soon as rebooted. The odd thing is that that task is still running when i check with android hackers. How can I control the start up apps?

Oh my Gosh!! I love XDA developers friends!! Thanks diablo, nbs !! I just found out other thread with same issue and fixed beautifully my captivate.
Here is what I did. I downloaded google talk services apps from here, and copy them to systems/app, and reboot. They are automatically downloading all the accumulated failed downloading after rebooting. I might have deleted some gtalk related apps by mistake. Hooray!!
Thanks all!!

[Q] Phone thinks I have an app update, but nothing on Market page?

Every now and then I'll get a notification that I have an update ready. I click the notification to open My Apps and...nothing needs an update.
I have noticed that my phone will randomly delete a paid game of mine, Totemo Full, and I've given up on reinstalling that. Would that be causing the issue? Did Totemo get a recent (like < 1 week ago) update?
What exactly, quoted, does the notification say? A lot of apps are set to update automatically, these apps might be telling you they were updated, not that an update was just available.
Quick tip: you can always go the market page for each app to see when it was last updated. Totemo is here, and it appears it hasn't updated since July 29.
Mine will sometimes say that there are more updates than there really are, but I've never had it tell me there's an update when there isn't yet. Have you used Titanium to freeze any apps, by chance?

Your apps disappear cause some of the by default get installed to your media. You can fix this by going to settings /applications /manage apps/media area and the O. Es that have a check mark by them, click on it and select move to phone and they won't disappear anymore. As far as the updates go, and as the other post says apps are set to update automatically and thats why you can't see them. It's just letting you know an update has been done. Hope this helps
I had a customer with this problem yesterday. Try going to market>menu>my apps> then look at each non installed app and look for ones that say "update" (for him it was myverizon and vz tones)

There are a few different threads on this......what is happening is your default account is switching over to a secondary account. If you go into accounts under the market menu and switch your account, you will see there is in fact an update for an app purchased on the other account. I am desperately searching for a fix to this. I now have apps split between the two accounts and if it weren't for my company using G-apps for e-mail now, I would delete second account.

This is not happening for me. I have only one google account on the phone. I have turned off automatic update for each app where it was turned on. I get a notification every day that there is an app with an update; open the notification and find that there are no apps available to update.
This version of the market has issues, for sure.
Just go to settings/apps & clear market data. You might also have to do that if you have updated an app outside the market.

I've tried that; it doesn't fix the problem (and I have no non-market apps installed.) It's more of an annoyance than anything, but I just wanted to point out that this is not always explained by an app with automatic updates enabled (which should give a notification of their own, by the way), or having a second Google account on the phone. The market app is problematic, period.

I get this too sometimes and find it to be Verizon apps like "Verizon Video". When you go to "My Apps" in the market scroll to the very bottom of the list and you might see it there. That's where I found my missing updates.
Yep most often Verizon apps. Annoying

Google play store download throttling

So loving the phone so far but my download speeds seem to be throttled when downloading on the Play store. <500kb/s consistently. other apps that require additional files download fine and streaming content is unaffected. It seems to be a common problem but i cant find a solution anyone else experiencing this ?
At first i thought it was my internet was going through a slow moment, but then i noticed the speeds never got better, I also have my note 5 which downloads from the play store at 10 mb/s so.

i know what u talking about my friend ! I got same issue with my mi5 pro. And I didn't fix that. It just some apps downloading good and some super slow...and it doesn't matter how speedy your wifi. Also chase bank is not working and some other apps will not. US and China is fighting with each other or what ever it is sir. The other roms will not help too.....until Cyanogen maybe. Damn I was about to pay 1.5k for the device and you remind all that sh!t I was faced to.
Best Regards
Avi
Seem to remember my wives note pro doing the same thing, then found out it had a vendor rom, once I took the chance and flashed genuine rom all was good. Where did you download playstore from? I had better results using Xiaomi google installer from their own store.
Yah the eBay seller installed the global rom for me including the play store. Maybe I should try installing it myself.
Mine does the same thing, and I'm pretty sure I have a vendor Rom on it as well. I figured it had to do with the Locale setting as it defaults to China and there is no United States listed.
But now that I have all my apps moved over its not as much of an issue, but it is pretty strange.
Is it the Play Store throttling? or something else on the phone maybe?
I installed the latest EU Rom and it has worked very well for me. No download issues in Play Store and actually being able to set wallpapers and lock screen compared to when I was on the China Rom. Plus, I can set locale to US with the EU.

I was having problems with slow downloads as well and it went away when I disabled the download accelerator in the MI APP STORE (which seems to try to point to some server in China which doesn't work well from the USA).
APP STORE, Account, Downloads, click on the to right (3 dots), settings and shut off "Xunlei download engine) and set "downloading using mobile data is" to unlimited.
Once I did this, it fixed my problems with the Google Play Store (as well as an updates from the MI app store).
Not sure if this will help but you can give it a try

I have the original China rom too, and turning off the MI app setting didn't help me at all.
What version of google play services are you running?
I didn't have the Mi App Store installed at all on whatever rom I had on this phone, But I find it odd that only Google Play gets throttled, and not all the time either. I even tried installing the Mi App Store separately, but unfortunately it won't even launch on my phone.
So can we assume that there is some sort of redirect in the phone somewhere for just the Play Store? Or is the Play Store picking up our locale and redirecting itself?
Just trying to get some more info to track this down, I hope nothing else is being routed through Chinese servers.
So I finally installed the EU Stable rom. Got rooted, disabled everything Xiaomi related, nothing in my running tasks is different from standard android.
Google Play is still being throttled to around 500K/s. But not all the time..
Could this be something on Googles end? Is there any sort of network monitor that might show it using some sort of proxy? Nothing else on the phone is slow, just the Play Store...
It's never googles end. freeze the download manager or disable it from apps, long time since I used xiaomi, thats about to change.

It's starting to look like the issue is in the DownloadProvider.apk. It sounds like people with the EU Dev rom don't have this issue.
If someone on the EU Dev rom could post their DownloadProvider.apk that would be awesome. /system/priv-app/DownloadProvider is the location...

Malware/Antivirus Help

I wanted to know if you guys know any apks for malware or antivirus. I have been getting a lot of pop ups. I installed kapersky and malware bytes but they both do anything.
pop ups when browsing and or apps? Most likely you'll need ad blocking software and or browser extension.

It seems to be ad pop ups. I would be using an app such as whatsapp or watching a video through my gallery and the add just pops up out nowhere. it has never done that before.
If you get apps from places that are not "trusted sources" many of them have these pop up ads.
Go through and we which apps have Device Admin, Accessibility, and Draw Over Other Apps permissions
Are you using stock Gallery or another app?
Sent from my SM-N960U1 using XDA Labs
Personally, I do not use any antivirus on my phone. I tried some of them before but finally gave up due to the large consumption to the phone memory which results into a slowdown of system and a faster drain of power. Plus, the major drawbacks of these free AV, like Avira, Kapersky, Bitdefender and more in Top 5 Free Antivirus in 2018, are the ads and popups bundled with them. They keep sending annoying ads and pop-ups during running, and even worse, sometimes they downloaded and installed things automatically.
Thus, if you download apps from playstore, surf the safe websites and connect to a clean outside device, do not bother to install a AV on your phone.

so l read this thread awhile back and thought nothing of it ............ until now!
I have "developed" the same Issue! and yes Its definitely an app that has access to "appear on top" and its under Apps> special Access> apps that can appear on top! Now for me to identify the culprit......? only issue though is if you have this issue your most likely the kind of user who experiments and installs several apps at once.... so here goes my trial by elimination process?
Hi had this problem.
I deleted the free APK that I had installed but I was still getting pop ups.
You need to go to settings / apps and right at the end of the list there was a app with no name or app logo.
Deleted it, problem solved.
I tried virus scan apps and nothing found it.
Hope this helps

Yeah that's exactly what I saw on my list.
No AV will block an ad. They block known, to them, malware apks. Use something like Addons Detector from G Play store and/or Nice catch from S Galaxy store to list all the apks that have ads modules and then remove those you installed last or don't recognise or need.
Run Malwarebytes.

Play Store downloads/updates stuck at 99%

I'm using a Note9 that's only a month old. The last 2 days, any app updates or new apps I'm trying to download get stuck at 99% (sometimes 100%). Things I've tried so far:
* Resetting the Play Store to default and deleting data/cache
* Wiping the cache of the whole phone
* Disabling the Google app (per suggestions I found elsewhere)
* Uninstalling Nova Launcher (per suggestions)
* Wiping the cache/data of the Download Manager
It's driving me up the wall. No idea what to try. Any advice?
This is the same issues I've been having, especially since updating to Android Pie. Only small fix I found was just closing all apps and run Device Care on a download, then it worked. I don't know if this is an actual fix though.
Are you using any package blockers or anything disabled via adb? If yes one app too many was blocked

I am not.
I've ran into this problem but only when having a unstable Wi-Fi connection. Specifically a bad power supply on the router.
And a lot of business wifi like in hospitals and stuff they have blocking software to keep the employees from watching movies and game of thrones and things like!

Only Google.
I'm experiencing this problem as well (Samsung Galaxy Note 10+). This started happening 2 days ago.
Also, another strange thing is happening: The Blue light filter, and Digital Wellbeing grayscale filter, are not starting/stopping at the correct times, they are delayed (sometimes by hours).
The worst part is, my previous phone (Galaxy Note 8) had the exact same issue(s). I endured it for a long time. I was excited to ditch the Note 8 for a phone that worked... Oh well
I generated a debug log, and I'm combing through it now. I don't understand everything I'm looking at.
Here are some attempted fixes, that did _not_ fix the issue on the Note 8:
* Clearing the Google Play store and services caches.
* Removing my Google account, then signing back in.
* Factory reset, then reinstalling everything from scratch. (The issue started happening again, within 1 day.)

Thank you very much!
I double-checked that apps were unable to update (Netflix was stuck at "77%"). I disabled the Google app, and restarted the phone. I left Google disabled.
... Netflix took longer to update (it stalled at "77%" again), but it did finish successfully. Now the other apps are downloading and installing! Nice. Hopefully this is a permanent (or at least reproducible) solution to the issue.
Do you know *why* the Google app would be interfering with app updates? I'm genuinely curious.

Did you find out what was causing this issue? I have had to disable my "google" app to allow updates. Are you using a s8 ? We should compare apps to see if something we have in common is causing this issue.

Yes i disabled it, but that must be related to another issue. my girlfriend has the same s8 and no issues. Must be related to multiple google accounts or something that differs from my phone to hers.
Perhaps fully off-topic or just the solution, did you disable or remove Chrome? I know my Note 9 shows similar behaviour when I debloat and remove Chrome. Once I updated the WebView app all runs fine. So I always update WebView before anything else. But then again I only notice this behaviour once I remove or disable Chrome browser.
