So I am on version 6.4 with ads removed and root enabled. I remember reading about 6.6 locking the bootloader and everyone not updating their device.
This is where I have been out of the loop. Has the latest update with band 12 been given the green light to update?
Sent from my R1 HD using Tapatalk
I am in the same situation. Everything is working fine on 6.4 debloated except no security updates. I don't want to risk upsetting that apple cart but if there was a way to get the security updates I would love to.

Just flash this in twrp on top of the rom. I was on 6.4 and now i'm on 7 without wiping anything. No problems.

Did what you said and upgraded just fine. VoLTE seems to not work but it seems others are having the same problem as me.
The rom works fine. In about it shows android security update to Oct 5, 2016. It shows as version 6.0 though. Is it 7? I did the update to get security update. Not sure what other differences there are to 6.4. Anyone know?

The difference is just security updates and band 12. This phone will probably never see version 7.0 of Android.

Hello,
I have a 2012 nexus seven, do android 4.3 will work on it using normal android system upgrade from settings? Because it says that there isn't any update available.
And can I root the device normally afterwards?
And my data will be saved?

Over the air updates often take time to roll out. Give it time and the update will come.
Of course, you can root and flash a custom ROM based on 4.3, but unless you already have an unlocked bootloader, you will lose your data.

You'll lose root, but so long as you made no changes to the preinstalled /system portion of the ROM, the OTA should run without killing any of your data.

It can take a lot longer than that, several days or a few weeks sometimes.

If he has Superuser he can download OTA Root Keeper off Google Play to keep root when he installs the OTA or if he uses SuperSU instead, the pro (paid) version has an option to protect root.

Got the 4.3 upgrade OTA this morning but had to use the old trick.... "Google Services Framework > Force stop > clear data" to make it show up.

This is why it pays to have an unlocked bootloader.
You would be running 4.3, rooted, and no loss of data if you did.

Not at this stage, it seems.
"It means preserving root with OTA Root Keeper won't be possible anymore as new rooting techniques rely on more than just a setuid su binary in /system."

Yeah you are right. They updated their app to show it at the moment does not have 4.3 support. Rooting a Nexus device is easy enough, though, that I would not worry about it.

Finally got the update this evening! Had a notification to say it'd downloaded and was ready to install, but I was in the middle of fixing a Play Store issue which meant removing and reinstating my Google account...
Of course, this meant that the notification disappeared and I'm still stuck on 4.2.2 with the manual update via 'About tablet' not working.
If it's downloaded, can I assume that it's still somewhere on my device? If not, will I possibly have to wait days or weeks to receive the update again?!
I'm not rooted by the way.

I seen in another thread that there is a firmware upgrade to be released on amazons website for these devices. I have two that are not yet out of the box as they are Xmas presents for my kids . Should I keep them at 5.0 .......open them the now and update to 5.0.1 or wait till later and jump right to 5.0.1.1.
I'm assuming that since the last update was automatic then this one will be too.....unless someone can modify the 5.0.1 update command and we can run it before the next update from amazon. Otherwise all the development for 5.0.1 Will have been for nothing

Oh nice. I installed it. What happens when marshmallow comes out? Will it brick my phone? Or just overwrite the OS?
Is the update button in settings for the custom OS or is it checking for Verizon updates?
Sorry I'm a noob to this. and Merry Xmas

You don't have to worry about Verizon OTA updates while on CF's rom's. He removed that as well. So when marshmallow comes out for the droid turbo, you won't get any notifications or anything. You would have to go back to stock to get the ota's. I'm sure CF will have a version of it that you would rather flash instead of Verizon's.
You also don't have to worry about marshmallow because Verizon will ignore the droid turbo like it does with all of its so called flagship phones.

When a new version of CF comes out, can I simply update it through the system update option in the system menu? Or do I have to wipe everything and perform a clean install?

Follow the directions on his thread. I don't think the system update option ever does anything. Typically it will be flash the rom, then wipe cache and dalvic cache if the rom is an update to one of his existing ones. If it is a new rom, based off of marshmallow or something new he put together that is not stock based, it would probably be a wipe everything and clean install.
running computerfreeks rom, as it seems to be the only one at the moment that keeps all the verizon stuff working.
no sure why its not in the poll.

While most of motos other lesser phones are either running or in soak. And as usual, nothing beyond a promise. As stated.

Changes in the Nov security update. The newest SuperSU SR5 fixes that, see the Beta thread. Brain dead toolkits are often out of date. If you want to run the newest stuff, you should learn to do it yourself, and especially have nandoid backups. :good:
Thanks for the info. I'll look into the beta. Have to wait till the weekend to try again.
Edit: I also didn't have the latest version of the toolkit. It was always saying updating to latest version. Didn't realize that feature only worked for the paid version. Hopefully that will work for this time. Then I can start relearning all this stuff for when I finally get my pixel. Thanks again for your help man.

Un-root your device and install the N firmware and then reboot. That way I'm sure you won't get a boot loop upon restart.

If you want to have root, and you have run custom ROMs before, why not just run a custom 7.1 ROM that already has root. YOu would just need to upgrade your bootloader and radio to the latest and flash a 7.X ROM.
