Hi I have a Moto G with the screen totaly broken but I'd like to give it a new life maybe ip cam or something like that.
Unfortunately the screen is broken and the phone isn't either root or twrp or anything.
I'd like to use the phone throught an mirroring app like [email protected]
Is it possible to root the phone without the screen and how ?
And do you have any idea what to do with that kind of device (server or something) ?
Thanks in advance
Does it boot into bootloader? If yes, using cf-autoroot and adb you can!

Hey guys,
Tomorrow I'll change my Optimus G for Moto X. ..
I wonder if you have any chronic problem in MotoX, eg optimus G has a camera of 13Mpx low image quality ...
So, is there any reason that someone did regret the Moto X?
Thank you! I hope to soon be with you ...
The X is awesome. The end.

The Optimus G was my previous phone before the MotoX.
The G is a great phone and performance wise is actually close to the MotoX. The MotoX's features make it a better user experience IMO. Motorola has done a great job of optimizing the hardware on the X.
You will will getting a slightly smaller and lighter phone. You also lose some screen real estate because of the on screen buttons on the X.
I had the 8 megapixel AT&T version of the G, so I never got to experience the 13 megapixel camera.
The only thing I miss about the G is the SD Card.
Here I am! With my X in the hands and mind! Tks

Given the hardware and capabilities of this phone, does anyone know how difficult it may or may not be to create a ROM that ports the features of the Moto X? I own the original phone, as well as briefly owned the 2014 version. I think the Moto app that lets you configure the features of the phone are much nicer than what Google does stock. As the new X and G already have 5.0, what about a Nexus 6 port? It has an AMOLED display, and the newer X doesn't have all the custom co-processors anymore that required control of the always listening and active display. Is anyone else interested in a port of the X Rom?
It would be easier to port the Moto Maxx's ROM as it is technically equivalent (display size, chipsets, etc.) But 5.0 isn't out for the Maxx yet. I'm also waiting for this to happen, a N6 with Moto Suite would seriously kick ass.
agreed..
I have been trying to get a hold of a Moto X 2014 5.0 /system/ .zip files but no one wants to sent me one to play with.

@knitler - check your PM
Try looking at the Lollipop OTA ZIPs in the Moto X 2014 forums. That would be a start...

Buy moto x no matter what, it is incredibly superior to Note 3. However note 4 wins in my opinion.

Storage depends on your usage. If you need more than 32GB (don't know if you can get the 64GB version) then this phone isn't for you. If you have large amounts of data in your plan and stream everything (this is what I do) even 16GB might be enough.
The camera is okay but won't stand a change against the Note's.
Fixed battery IMO is just a feature that Samsung fanboys use to have an argument for their device. I'd bet almost nobody carries around a second battery to replace the empty one in the phone.
And who needs Motos service centers? I am pretty sure here in Germany not a single one of these centers exist and that didn't keep me from buying the phone. If something is wrong with your phone just talk to the moto support in India and sent the phone to them and you should be good.
Yes... I have decided to but Moto x2... thanx guys for the guidance... Xda rocks...

Moto X 2014 is a sweet phone in the hand and looks amazing. Mine is now sitting in a drawer though and I am using a Moto Maxx. I really think there is something wrong with how Motorola is building the firmware for the Moto X 2014. The phone just doesn't work as well as it should with the hardware it has and the battery life really does stink. Hopefully the final release of 5.1.x solves a bunch of issues, if not then the phone really only shines with 4.4.4 installed. I say all of this as someone who has been a 20+ year diehard Motorola fan.

If you want to write with a stylus, get a note. If you just use the touchscreen, get the X. I have a note tablet and have no interest in a note phone - too small for all of the benefit of a stylus for me.

I just got this today, Marshmallow after this patch?
No, it should be 6.2 not 5
According to the motorola blog about marshmallow, the at&t model will NOT get marshmallow.

Dang, this phone is less than a year old. I ll be sticking to it for at least another year due to superior call quality.
Motorola also said that critical patches will still come to the carriers' versions but not marshmallow.
Verizon and at&t owners won't get updates.
Me instead of you don't take the update since a possible root exploit could come sometimes and taking the new update isn't that smart.

I used to root, install CM on my phones but recently I don't feel it worth the time to do it anymore ( haven't done any root for the past 2 years). Truely love the Moto X call quality but without update...my next phone probably a Moto nexus or iPhone.

Possible idea, ul bootloader, install twrp. And flash the stock 6.0 rom, I took the 5.1 soak test dl and couldn't update ota, but the stock roms work great!
I hope an exploit is found soon - I'm sick of getting the software update message constantly.

You can't go wrong with an iphone. That's my daily phone I rock an iPhone 6s. I'm using the moto x 2014 as a backup device. Just to surf the web and do other stuff while my iPhone charges. I feel as the moto x lags when I'm using it over my iPhone and I have animations turned off, force rendering and nova launcher with faster than light set. Tbh I'm an iPhone guy though.

How is the call quality on 6s? I used a 5s before but it's not as good Moto X 2014 ( I'm not a native speaker so i can tell the difference )

It has really good call quality and we're going to get volte soon so the call quality is going to be better as well. But this is a moto x thread so I'm not going to talk about the iPhone anymore. Anyone know any update on root for this device yet?
So here's the scenario, I've recently acquired a used Moto X first gen. I've been using a Moto G first gen for many years because I like the small format of these phones, but my old phone is only 8GB whereas this new one, or new to me, is a 16GB. Now I fully understand that with these older phones, their update ability is limited, which is fine, I'm only trying to install the 5.1 Lollipop update, which is currently running my older Moto G first gen from the current 4.4.2 that the Moto X is running. Data and WiFi are fully functioning in every way on the Moto X but no matter what I do, I receive a message when I trying and update the phone reading, Oops! You need a data connection to check for updates. Go to WiFi settings..... etc. It never fails, and I've searched high and low for an answer to this mystery and come up empty handed. Any thoughts or theories would be very welcomed. Cheers
