Lte band 1 20(800) - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I've been using Nexus 6 on both stock and custom ROMs. I'm currently on RR unofficial 6.0.1 and I'm using a network that has LTE on band 1 20(800) but I'm not connecting to the LTE network even though the LTE service is available.
Can anyone point in the direction where I can enable band 1 on mine?
Thanks

It sounds as if you have an XT1103 (US model), which does not have band 1. While we do have an entire thread in general (search for it) devoted to adding bands to the appropriate device, would you please confirm the model number by entering the bootloader? This way we can eliminate technical difficulties on the carrier's end as the cause.
After confirming this, then find the aforementioned thread in general and follow its instructions.

I hope this helps.
And as you said I'll search the thread and read through it.
Thanks for at least replying

@gideonlfc: Not helpful. Not helpful at all. In fact, that is not even remotely close to what I asked for in my last post.
To get into the bootloader, power off the device, then hold down the volume up key while pressing the power key.

Okay so I got into the bootloader and got this.

You have a US Nexus 6, as suspected. Head to the other thread to see about adding bands. Hopefully you can follow the directions there, as from personal experience what you need to do is complex.

Then I'll just stick to H+. I don't want to mess up anything and end up not getting any signal at all.
Thank u bro

[Q] [Solved] GSM Tmo Tab with JK3 modem, no service!

Hi everyone, I flashed different ROMs for a couple of weeks, and finally decide to settle down with OC 2.3.3, the July 15th latest one. However, the same problem occurred, which is with a Tmo Modem in the tab, I have great signal, EDGE data, and no phone function. With JK3, I got nothing, which is the main reason I switched back to Froyo at first.
I am a ATT user, holding a Tmo GT. I didn't find any fimilar threads, and in fact, I think this is a question needs precise answers.
Thanks in advance!
Updated on #4
UPDATE: I find the signal sometimes appeared and give me GPRS... So weird... I even reflash the rom again, not help. So any other paople could help me?

You can use the t-mobile modem, and you will only get EDGE. You can use a vibrant modem and you can get voice and EDGE.
BUT YOU WILL NEVER GET 3G.
There are probably a five hundred posts on this.
And it will never matter which rom you use. It is only due to hardware limitations, as I explained to you elsewhere.
Thanks for the help, but you misunderstood. I know the edge and voice stuff, just the modem didnt work on my tab.
Since I absolutely want gingerbread this time, I finally figure this out, I went to wireless settings and select GSM only, instead of autoselect. NOW I can FINALLY make calls and get edge instead of gprs. I will keep tracked to see if this method could solve the problem eventually.
People see alot of similar threads and they forgot to care about simple problems because they thought it was old, which in fact isnt. Still thank this forum for bringing me all the great things!

It is usually the simple things that cause us problems! And you wouldn't have gotten any reply if I didn't care about your problem.
Why can't you switch to a t-mobile sim card so you can enjoy the 3g?
Do u mean if I switch to tmobile I could get 3g and voice? I am managing a family plan right now and my wife is waiting for iphone 5, but if that is the situation, I might consider switching... ao attractive...

From my understanding TMO only provide 3G data plan for tab. No voice plan. Am i right rangercaptain? You did explain to me last time in other treat that only certain region receive the voice plan. Ex spain, israel etc. Or maybe my understanding is wrong? Haha,,just want some confirmation also on this matter. Im interested to know

You are 100% right.
T-mobile tabs in the USA get voice or 3g using the switch.
In a few other countries t-mobile tabs get voice and 3g, no switch needed.

Yes, sort of.
You would have to install the Rotohammer modem switch.
Mode #1 = voice, sms, and EDGE speed data.
Mode#2 = 3g data only.
Thank you for that info rangercaptain. You just add more knowledge to me.

»All LTE Discussion«

In an attempt to help tidy up this forum a bit, this thread has been created to centralize all discussion related to LTE on the Nexus 4.
*NOTE* DON'T CREATE ANY OTHER THREADS REGARDING LTE. USE THIS THREAD TO ANNOUNCE OR DISCUSS ANYTHING INSTEAD!
In order to enable LTE on your device, follow efrant's guidance below:
efrant said:
Here are all the things you need (checklist):
1) An LTE SIM
2) LTE coverage
3) LTE enabled in the radio settings on the N4 (dial *#*#INFO#*#* in the dialer, and select LTE/GSM auto in the "Set preferred network type")
4) The proper APN for LTE for your carrier (you will need to get this info from your carrier) inputed into your N4 AND selected
5) An LTE compatible data plan
6) LTE provisioned on your account.
Note that most carriers do not support VoLTE (i.e., voice over LTE), so you need to select LTE/GSM auto in the settings, and not LTE only in the N4 settings in point #3 above.
While all the above items are required, some carriers already have some of them by default. For point #6 above, if your carrier does not have this enabled by default, you will have to call in to make sure it is there. If they don't want to add it, explain to them that you bought an LTE device from outside of your country and you want to be able to use LTE. Ask them, if need be, to add a dummy IMEI to your account to allow provisioning. You may have to call back a few times until you speak to a CSR that actually knows what they are talking about. If you can't get anywhere with that, then you can try putting your SIM in an LTE device that is supported by you carrier and then call them to make sure that LTE is provisioned on your account, then try that SIM in your N4.

For point #3 above, you can find a collection of the radios from here - [REF][RADIO]Mako modem collection.
As you'll see written in the OP of the above thread, if you want LTE enabled DON'T flash the 0.48 radio as it disables LTE functionality. Flash one of the previous radios instead.
LTE Supported Carriers and Regions
Among your discussions, please post telling me if LTE works with your carrier so I'll be able to add it to this list.

I'm trying to get T-mo LTE working on my N4. I have CM 10.1 and the .33 radio. I can go into the 4636 menu, set any of the LTE choices from the drop down, and the network type in that menu says LTE, but I can't get any data to go through. I never get the 4G icon near the signal bar and it never turns blue to show it's connected to Google. I have the fast APN set, all I did was change the original from epc to fast. Is there a step I'm missing?

Of course they apply to T-Mobile USA. For example, you require an LTE SIM. If all of T-Mobile's SIMs are LTE enabled, then fine. That doesn't change the fact that one is required...

I kinda like one unified LTE thread...but for T-Mobile only since it has the biggest buzz being brand new. I was subscribed to about three LTE threads just to see how everyone is experiencing T-Mobile's LTE.

Guys, what's done is done. The mods all seem to agree on it so they probably discussed this already. Let's move on.
For T-Mobile USA carriers, use this for your APN:

It worked for me.
Las Vegas T-Mobile LTE. I was told it's only 10 MHz (for now until the Metro PCS merger, assuming that goes well with the stockholders) at 2x5 MHz. Can't wait to see the speed increase once they go to 20 or even 40 MHz!

OK, so which roms are perfectly compatible with the .33 radio and LTE and Tmobile? It seems to be the policy of molesarecoming and PA that they will not support older radios and LTE on Tmobile, with his recent comments this afternoon. So does Cyanogenmod work with the .33 radio on Tmobile with regards to voice calls?

Oh nice, so the latest CM is compatible with the .33 radio and voice calls working on Tmobile? Might have to flash Cyanogenmod for the first time on my Nexus 4. Been on PA for a long time, but not going to give up LTE because the dev doesn't feel comfortable supporting it.

CM-based ROMs (and possibly AOKP based ROMs) will work. AOSP based ROMs don't appear to work.
I can confirm that Xylon and CarbonROM work with the .33 radio.
For those coming from PA, Xylon has pie and hybrid settings now. CarbonROM also has pie and per-app settings. I tried both of these ROMs and think they're pretty good. I used hybrid settings a lot in PA so the transition to Xylon felt more intuitive to me.
Great speeds in Silver Spring, MD. Pretty much same results for the Wheaton and Rockville, MD areas as well. I'm still on stock 4.2.1.

Great, thanks a lot for the info. Now I gotta go skim over hundreds of pages of CM discussion. . .
I'm using cm 10.1 and .33 radio. Calls work fine as long as you have it set to LTE/GSM AUTO (PRL). GPS works as well.
When you make or receive a phone call it switches to GSM

I followed the instruction here: http : // hippowise.com/how-to-permanently-enable-lte-on-android-4-2-2-nexus-4/ and everything works perfectly. I use CM10.1 nightly and .33 radio. Screen shot here is at my work North San Jose (Montague and Zanker)
*copied from other thread *
Use ES file explorer to open build.prop which is in /system via es note editor. Then do the following :
Replace telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=0 with telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1
Note that this will have to be redone when switching it updating ROMs (ie flashing new Cyanogenmod nightlies)
It also allows you to enable or disable LTE through the mobile networks settings menu and with CM10.1 you can add an LTE quick toggle to the quick settings panel.

Xperia Z(c6603) : LTE on AT&T by ZL(c6506) baseband method.

I have been following the "LTE in Canada" thread, but I haven't seen any confirmation of this working on AT&T. Is there anyone out there that has this working pn their AT&T service? Screen shots of speed tests, please!
If it is not possible to do this for AT&T like it is for Rogers and Fido, can someone please explain why not?
Thank you. I kno the T-Mo xperia z(6606) is out, but it is network locked.

[TWEAK] Increase Network Speeds By Using Sprint Spark [WIP]

I stumbled upon a thread in the N5 forums where they needed to go in and manually enable bands 26 and 41 on their devices in order to enable Sprint Spark (network speeds of 50-60mbps).
I followed their instructions on my S4 and low and behold, we have the LTE programming menu containing "enable band 26" and "enable band 41" in it. I have my MSL, so I tried to edit it, but every time I check the boxes to enable the bands, the settings don't stick.
I'm currently running TriForce 4.0 (4.3) and I have this option. I'm still working on a few things but thought some people could collaborate here so we can get this going. I don't see why our phones wouldn't support the new network. If it's a hardware limitation, someone please enlighten me.

I don't think the hardware is there to support it; that's why they are coming out with the SPH-L720T model which adds the two LTE bands (but loses VoLTE unfortunately).
This sort of thing has been done before... T-Mobile did something similar with the S3 - releasing a late variant which added LTE support.
I took the ota to 4.3...when I view my settings it shows band 26 and 41 already enabled.

Samsung can't have the device use those bands without having it approved by the FCC first so I went back to the FCC docs to see if Samsung sought band 26 and 41 support to the SPH-L720 since it was initially approved and they haven't. My guess is that the 720 and 720T may share the same firmware and that's why you are seeing that. Either that or they have started selling the 720T and that's the one you have (though I didn't think they did that yet).

Doh! That should have been "no support for SVLTE" instead of VOLTE. Sprint's network doesn't support VoLTE yet.
It doesn't lose VoLTE... VoLTE isn't hardware related its just any type of VOIP program but on LTE.. Or at least I think so

The topic of the post that was linked in the OP was for a Nexus 5. This is a Galaxy S4 forum section. Therefore you have to use the code ##3282# instead of *#*#3282#*#* on the S4. [Not Confirmed:] You also must be using the MJA modem in order to access these new bands.

What's the point of all this if the hardware in the current S4 variant can't support it? It's like putting a rocket engine button inside a Toyota Corolla. You can press it a hundred times but it still won't make flames come out the back of the car.

Alright time to get in on this topic, I have a question. I have a sprint s4, im rockin the mja modem,on sac's 4.2 rom and have input the dialer code and do see band 26 and 41, I checked the boxes and when I did it went from [off] to [on] but once I back out and re-enter where these options are the boxes remain checked but state its [off].
So does this mean I enabled the bands, but at the moment there off cause I'm not in a area that supports these bands ? ( can't clarify weather I am in a area that supports these bands or not just guessed this is why this is happening).
Thanks in advance

Idk if that answer is directed at me or not but if so...I've changed a few things in this section (##3282#) a few times in the past such as ehrpd, multimedia, data profile and so on and have never saved my choices after making changes they've always just stuck.
Although saving them does make sense but there is no such option. If I were to press the settings button while in this menu nothing pops up? The choices I made do stick to a extent like turning on LTE the box stays checked and it does stay [on] but as for the bands...the boxes stay checked but don't stay [on].
(Screenshot attached).
Which brought me to To the conclusion that i enabled them but there currently off at the moment due to me not recieveing a signal from these bands due to me not being in a supported area..just a guess though, I can't confirm weather I am in a supported area or not.
NOTE:This isn't how these options are I cropped 3pics and made em into one fyi

So LTE and EHRPD is the most I'm gunna see out of this device huh....bummerrrr but I'm still happy with it just looking to get even more out of my device and my hands on but no worries.

How to enable 5G for the Pixel 4a 5G in The Netherlands??

I enjoy my new Pixel 4a 5G, but 5G does not work at all in The Netherlands for the 4a 5G and the Pixel 5.
Google has apparently decided to not enable 5G yet in these phones, very frustrating!
Does anyone know how it maybe be possible to enable it in the phone, so I can enjoy 5G on the T-Mobile network?
T-Mobile says that 5G is fully working, just like with other providers in NL.

I called yesterday to t -Mobile for the same question and got the same answer. They use the 700 Hz band 28 atm but 5G is not yet enabled by Google.

Thanks!
So yes, Google must enable it, most likely with a (future) software update.
I really hope that it will not take too long time....

Thanks again.
I also sent an E-mail to Google Support here in NL, I know someone who helped me before with a defective Pixel phone.
Maybe they can tell us more.
If I know something, I'll post it here. :good:
I enabled eSim next to my regular sim and apparently you can't use 5G when using 2 sims (they should mention that somewhere).

Read this: https://9to5google.com/2020/11/09/p...set-to-gain-dual-sim-dual-standby-5g-support/.
It shows 5G is not yet enabled by Google but will come soon with a software update as the code to enable 5G is allready changed in AOSP.
Read that
It's the solution, this worked for me!

Good news everyone! I managed to enable 5G connectivity for my Pixel 5 in Finland. Thanks again to @cstark27 for hinting me to the right direction.
1. First you need to get your phone to show up in QPST. This is done similarly to Pixel 4 XL and you can find the the steps to do so here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83499679&postcount=75
2. Once you have installed QPST open EFS tool. If you have followed the steps in the previous step and have the right drivers installed your phone shows up here. Now you need to navigate to the carrier policy file. More details here: https://mt-tech.fi/en/modify-oneplus-7-pro-5g-8-and-8-pro-nr-lte-a-band-combos/
3. PLEASE remember to backup the original file! Pixel 5's file is different from the OnePlus example linked above. I simply added 5G to every rat_capability field, saved the file and then replaced the original file with the modified one. As usual, you have all the responsibility of your device and its modifications.
Now that 5G is working, all that's left is to find a way to enable VoLTE. Replacing MBN files has worked in other devices so perhaps it could be the solution here as well.
dual sim 5G support seems like it's coming with a software update

Looks like 5G support with dual eSIM/nanoSIM should be coming with a software update.

Bump, would like to get my 5g enabled as well.

Hi, unfortunately no 5G with the December update.... :-(
I looked in all mobile settings, but I cannot let the phone find any 5G network.
I'm also still in contact with Google about this issue.
Still no clear answer.
This is frustrating...

Did you do a speedtest after the update? My downloadspeed is way higher (double speed) then before for me. Its just that i still have the 4G icon showing but i think i have 5G speeds
-EDIT- Still on band 3 1800+, so still LTE+
Link to clarifying post about 5G and Dual Sim https://www.xda-developers.com/goog...uture-update-for-the-pixel-5-and-pixel-4a-5g/. Guess we`ll have to wait for the next update.

Thanks for the info.
No, I did no speedtest, I think it's still the same, I'll test it later.
I'm not using the same phone every day, I switch from time to time. ;-)
And I still wait for a clear answer from Google, I'll post it here later...
Then we wait for the January update I suppose...
On the positive side, the phone is really good, and it takes one of the best photos!
The UI and apps are fluently without lag, much better than Android 11 on the Pixel 3a XL.
Only app that feels not fast is YouTube, especially when turning the phone from portrait to landscape.
Then I notice lag.
Are there any tips to make this work better?
try youtube vanced!

You could try lowering animation speed in developer options to 0,5 or turn it off completely.

Thanks ! It works perfectly for Free Mobile in France too !
Edit : To make it completely work on the n28 too, I had to enable DSS by editing the lte_feature_restrictions.xml file too. Otherwise it would only show "5G" but never actually connect to the n28 antenna. You can check that by using NSG or dialing *#*#4636#*#* : you should see "NR State : CONNECTED" instead of "NOT_RESTRICTED". This guide helped me a lot : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-fix-enable-5g-and-dss.4206461/
Working files for Free Mobile (France), in attachements.
Hello Guys,
Meanwhile I sold my Pixel 4a 5G.
I didn't like it that much in the end, so I'll keep my 3a XL as my Google phone.
And Google will maybe provide an update somewhere in 2021, but no guarantees.
I had a OnePlus 8 Pro for a few days and I tested 5G with it on T-Mobile here in The Netherlands.
I'm very disappointed how "fast" 5G is at the moment! (only Sub-6 available)
It's mostly slower than 4G and less stable.
And the battery is running out much faster with 5G enabled.
Long story shot, 5G will be no issue for the coming few years.
5G will only be good if mmWave 5G is working in a large area.
Up till then, 4G is good enough!
Happy Holidays and wish you all the best for 2021!
Is there any chance to force activation Wi-Fi Calling? I am living in Poland and using T-Mobile, which is not supported by Google (also Google Store is not available in Poland).
I would like to buy pixel 4a 5G, however VoWiFi is necessary for me due to coverage issues.
