After spending way too many hours in my car, and many failed attempts, I am now running Malaysk's update_5_1_1_FUSE_1024X600_RK3188_06_MAL_30_10_2016_MTCB ROM on my HU. I spent a lot of time reading and taking notes in OneNote before starting. However, I was bricked at one point. I found a thread on how to recover via OTG port and using the RockChip Drivers and Batch Tool. Back in business. Once I got the right ROM, and hooked a battery charger up since I drained my battery working on this, I got everything working including most of the Xposed modules, custom wallpapers, tasker, etc. All of this because I needed more space or to be able to mount my ext_sd since Spotify and GPM refused to use the SD. Now that I have FUSE, I'm rockin like I had hoped.
I made a donation to @Malaysk a few minutes ago. His ROM (and XDA) made my marginally functional HU into just what I thought I was buying in the first place. I encourage everyone else to donate if you are using his stuff and have not donated yet.
TL;DR I f-ed up, but thanks to the community, I was able to recover.

Im currently at the same point you were in, spent so many hours but still cant get the thing to run. I have reached the point where im totaly bricked i only know the device is on because its hooked to a power supply and there is a currant draw. But i have failed to connect it to the computer. Can you share with us how you connected it to your computer.

Good evening! This post is meant to serve as a (hopefully) comedic recounting of what wonderful maladies one can concoct using a simple recipe of two parts impatience and one part ignorance (pro tip: add a dash of overconfidence for added goodness!).
First the ignorance. I am a Mac user. There, I said it. I've always considered myself a bit tech-savvy, and at various times over the past twenty-five years or so, I've dabbled in operating systems ranging from my first Commodore 64, through MSDOS, Windows, BSD, Linux, and finally on to Mac OS X. I've been quite happy and comfortable here. When my iPhone suffered a tragic death at the hands of a hardwood floor this past summer, I broke from the family and purchased a Captivate. Aside from the GPS, I've loved it. I rooted it the same day, and as soon began flashing ROMs onto it. Most recently, I was running Cognition 2.3b6. I realize now that my previous experiences do not serve to make me a "power user," but rather simply a dangerous amateur.
Now the impatience. When I upgraded to Cognition 2.3b6 from 2.4.1, I tried downloading directly to my phone via the browser, but I was informed that such a download was not supported. Today, I decided to try out 2.3b7, and I thought I'd outsmarted that pesky limitation by downloading to my computer and transferring it to my phone via Dropbox (which I just obtained, and which seems awesome so far). I could have waited until I got home and transferred it via USB, but then I had an entire 50 minutes of class remaining, and who wants to suffer through class and then a train ride under such anticipation?! I rebooted into recovery, chose the correct option, navigated to dropbox/ and selected my .zip file. A minute or so after it began flashing, I received an error, advising me that a path was incorrect, or something to that effect. Ah yes, I remembered, when flashing a ROM, I need to copy the file to the root directory of the SD card. I'll just do that n-- AT&T World Phone screen. Hmm, this is taking some time. Hmm, this has taken ten minutes. Hmm, this is apparently the new limit of my phone's capacity for operation.
Now is a wonderful time to be a Mac user. Since, you know, we lack Odin support. Thankfully, I was a beta tester for a previous version of Windows, which I will have to install via Boot Camp and attempt to clean up the mess I've made. I'll post a followup after I've attempted this. Hopefully anybody reading this will find a bit of humor; I sure am laughing at myself
TL;DR - Mac user who screwed up his device, now having to Boot Camp Windows to fix it.
So ideally, you should have flashed back to JF6 before trying to flash 2.3B7. Although I guess that's easier said then done for you since us Windows users can use Odin to go back to JF6 before a flash.
Hopefully you can put your phone in Download Mode and recover it with Odin!
Goodluck.
I have not got it working yet but I am a real novice. Heimdall will allow you to flash stock with mac. It is more involved then odin but if you know your way about computers it should be useful

Yeah, I was looking for that! Had some trouble with Boot Camp, so I'm giving it a shot on a friend's Windows PC right now.

Okay, resolution!
I followed the Odin3 One Click option from a friend's PC. Took a few tries to get the correct combo to get my phone into download mode, but eventually got it (I believe it was volume up&down + plug in, but I've had a few glasses of wine, so I forget now). Flashed back to JF6, then flashed Cog 2.3b7. Everything appears to be working fine!
Cheers! If anybody needs further detail, please feel free to reply to this or PM me.
All the best,
Randy
Astro has the ability to enable all file type downloads in the browser.
.zip included.
its sooo true.. its the most dangerous when you have a little bit of knowledge because then you often dive into something you don't completely have a grasp over, but you think you do ;D. i know firsthand but with my car, which quickly became a more expensive hobby than phone flashing lol...
at the same time, you can't be discouraged by failing or messing things up, or you'll never learn. i guess the underlying lesson is to do all your research about a topic before you jump into anything that could potentially destroy the object haha.
glad you got it to work!
hey everyone,
my touchpad has android cm7 i believe and when i booted into webos, i was greeted by a software update notifcation, which i downloaded and installed not knowing it was gonna brick my device. now im trying to sell this thing and i have a buyer lined up.
so what do i got to do to get this bad boy up and running again? would it be easier to return to complete stock from here or get the dual boot up again?
i can only get the "usb" symbol up on the screen, nothing else. ive tried running webos dr but it refuses to connect to my tp (as soon as i plug usb in, tp tells me to conncect to ac adapter and disconnects me from the webos dr program)
i've jailbroken all my devices and installed roms many times via developers awesome simple programs/instructions but im afraid if it comes down to retyping 50 lines of code, im gonna be assed out lol.
so hopefully there is an moderately painless way you guys can point me in.
thanks alot.

You're going to have to doctor. Before you try, connect the tp to the charger and let it charge completely, it won't let you dr unless it's charged, it's a good safety measure. Don't worry, you haven't bricked it - tp's are almost impossible to brick, it's only a pia to get it doctored and running. There are several good step-by-step instructions on doctoring. Go here and search: http://forums.webosnation.com/
I would install android again, it's nice to have a dual-booting tablet!
I know nothing of Bricking/Unbricking... Rooting or anything. I have been researching for 3 days now. I know as much now as I did then all of zip!! I cannot get past the on screen. I have done the 20 second poewr button push for up to 5 minutes. I have talked to Amazon support and have been told Im pretty much SOL. I miss my kinde and I am not ready to give up. I have seen others have appreared to be in worse situations with this issue than I am so I am hoping for some assistance.
Every time I look into KFU and understand it it doesnt download right. Almost everything says it cant work on my computer. I have downloaded several versions. I feel screwed. Is there hope for this? all the apps for unbricking and rooting that i have downloaded have been for nothing. I would really appreciate some mojo and super geek help please.

First try and put it into recovery by holding down the volume up until a screen comes up saying to reboot or restore. Also, give me some background info. on how the kindle stopped working.
Is a definite must do. I have an appt I have to leave for in a minute so as soon as I get home I will def take care of the background info and the volume up try. Thank you. I will most assuredly appreciate your help. :highfive:

Hi again... SO I did the volume up trick until my fingers started to shake. Nothing happened. I did it with the kindle attached to the computer and with out the usb tethered to anything. I did not try it straight off the wall plug tho. Nothing ....
Background. I have had the kindle less than a year. My 8 year old has been stealing it a lot the past few months trying it say is hers ;0 thats ok. Shes been playing games like bakery story Dragon story fashion world and temple run etc... she uses it for the calculator and reading programs. She also uses it for netflix. 5 days ago she watched netflix until the battery gave out. She plugged it in and waited a few minutes and it wasnt coming back in. She told me about it... I looked into everything I could think of. I tried everything I could find. I have downloaded (to my computer) a ton of root and unbricking programs. Nothing makes sense and everything says theres parameters missing. I called kindle. Support took me thru every step I had already tried (power button charging different ways killin the battery all the way doing different things etc) The only two things I see now are a huge battery in the middle of a black screen that has a very small red portion to it or the beginning screen that stays put with the words having the glowy part run across it over and over again... thats all I know for sure. IF theres any information you can help me with I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

You might need to get a factory cable. I have to get one because mine won't start up anymore either.
Hi lisa
First off Don't Panic!!! Been where you are about 2 months ago and couldn't/hadn't flashed/used from etc etc before in my life.. but my kfhd was stuffed but the sounds of things similar to you.
The volume up trick will only work once you have 2nd boot working btw.
Go to the 7' android development section of the kfhd forum and read a few threads around getting something called second boot loader.. it actually really simple and very simple to do (as long as you do follow it EXACTLY).. I did get a factory cable to assist this process, and you may need one as well, but I have read that several people have now worked out how to do it without. (Read all the thread about second boot loader there's a lot but its worth it) factory cables are only cheap at worst case..
I'm sure someone will direct you to exactly the link on the xda forum you need shortly, everyone was amazing when I initially stuffed up.keep smiling and as I said don't panic!!

Does your Kindle take a charge at all do you know or just always the same screens no matter how long you charge?
3 in one
1st querant Do you buy them on amazon? can i get one closer to home? Is there a price range I should look into?
2nd querant Ill look but be warned that my inner geek has had meltdowns over all of this. Its over my head. I just kinda bug eye and try not to get stupefied.
3rd querant No it will not charge at all.
Thank you all and please be patient with me.
I don`t know if the charging has the same issue as the first gen, it required a running system in order for the battery to charge if it ever became flat. Here`s my suggestion plug it to your pc for several hours set your computer to not sleep and leave it, if you get lucky it will eventually boot good luck. It should not need unbricking by the way.

If you have not done anything to the device to cause this ie: root, custom recovery, flashed anything, then it sounds like you just have a hardware problem. Something went wrong that should not have and would be covered under warranty. I WOULD NOT mess with anything involving root or a factory cable or 2nd bootloader. If you do not know what you are doing when it comes to those things then you could potentially do more harm than good. Did you buy it on amazon? You said you already called amazon, call them back, they will replace it, even if you didnt buy directly from them.. Sometimes the people that answer the phones for amazon are idiots. Just call until you get someone who is helpful. tell them exactly what happened, it died and won't come back on. Don't mention anything about root, factory cable, ect.. These devices havent even been out for a year so all of them are still under warranty unless you've root or installed custom recovery.
Could just be a defective charger ? did you try an alternative mains/usb wall charger, left plugged in with the kindle powered off ? it takes a long time to charge them from flat, mine was approx 12 hours Edit - A computors usb output isn't usually enough to push a charge in only keep the kindle "as is" when in use

wouldnt matter if I could root or unbrick it. My computer wont download the system operations for those properly. I did mention that I dont know how. and I did say that I dont understand what they are so I am not doing them. That I had tried the 20 second power button push all thw way up to 5 minutes on the usb to the computer and the wall as well as detached. Nothing worked. Its stuck and they wouldnt explain why. All I got was well sorry thats it we cant help you. *sigh* I have tried calling like 5 times. to no avail. Thanks tho.
I will be the first to say that unless I can figure something out I am not going to try it. My tablet is something I find as a MUST HAVE and I dont want to take any chances on ....

Its possible because my son was using mine and his to charge his reg KF and it wasnt charging. He tried several alternates power choices on that as well. I have ordered the factory charger but I am going to want to understand everything about it before it gets here on sat. I am going to start researching it tonight when i get home.

Try testing the charge on a couple different power cords that are know to work and put it on one for 12hrs. Then if it couldn't charge I'll walk you through the steps of using a factory cable.
What kind of computer do you have. These things always work smother on a Windows machine (or Linux). Also did you ever install the drivers for your Kindle on the computer. Nothing will work properly unless you have the drivers on there. They should load automatically when you plug your kindle into the computer. If they don't, here is a thread where you can download the drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890413 Just download and you can either unzip the file and use what's inside or just double click to install :good:

I dont mean to discourage and maybe it will work but the only thing a factory cable is used for is to put the device into fastboot so you can flash partition imgs or other programming features(the cable uses the fifth lead on a micro usb cable to activate fastboot). Even if it goes to fastboot your kindle is not bricked and and you would have no reason or need for fastboot. From what you've said you have not rooted or modified your device at all, there are only two possibilities of what is wrong with it at this point- the charger is bad or the charging port has gone bad. That box with the red bar about a 1/4 full just means the device doesnt have enough charge to power up. It happens all the time on mine and once I charge it for a couple minutes its fine. So your device is obviously not charging and I dont think a factory cable is going to change that. I just want you to have the right info and not go wasting your time and money trying things that are irrelevant to what is actually wrong with your device.
trying
have cable, still lost. Am trying to figure out what I need. Things wont load on the computer. I have a samsung RV515 laptop. I cant get the computer to recognize the muffed kindle. The fastboot screen does show up but then goes no further. It does need to show up on the computer so I can do more things with it. Not so much atm. I have the recommended linked .exe on the computer but it will not run as it says not everything is downloaded and I have to finish d/l it manually. I am not ready to give up but I wont do anything to screw it up more.
No it wont go past the 1/4th charge. I have left it on the charge for 24 hours and not getting further. Again I have seen people not even able to get to the front screen pull it back from the dead. So Im hoping.. thanks
You mean the exe that I linked you to doesn't work?

Brief history: I bought my Kindle Fire HD in November 20012. It was the first android device I had, so I did not know anything about it. My first search was for rooting, thing that I could make with the help of this forum. From that moment I started reading the forum because everything was new to me and interesting. Meanwhile my rooted kindle worked fine until at some point began to turn off alone. With help of some people of this forum, I was noticed that the problem were gmail notifications. I disabled the notification and the problem was fixed for several months . . . but after that she started doing it again.
There began -also with the help of people on the forum- an odyssey of endless tests, install and uninstall apps, upgrades, downgrades, battery calibrations, etc. until I decided to install TWRP and flash CM 10.2. Of course I learned a lot in this process and I am very happy with CM 10.2.
But what which leaves me sad, very sad and frustrated, is that remain turning off arbitrarily and randomly!!!!!
It can spend two whole days working fine until battery is low, but it can also happen that its turns off every 10 minutes. It is totally independent of the battery charge, although it tends to do more when it is around 50%!
After that, sometimes I can turn-it on normally, but sometimes I have to try 10 or 20 times because she turn off again while charging system.
If I plug-it (to wall or PC) she normally turns on and does not auto turn off again (while plugged).
My latest finding is that if when she turns off itself I shake-it vigorously I can then turning on normally. It's like there's a loose connection or something like that.
As I'm outside the U.S. have no chance of sending it to Amazon.
I really appreciate if someone have some idea about this problem.
I want to thank again all those who given me very good suggestions. It is thanks to them that I learned a lot.
I edit to coment another thing. When I use Corpse Finder from SD Maid, it detect 3 files: .adobe-digital-editions; kindle and Digital Editions ( the three placed in: /storage/emulated/0). No matter how many times I clean it, they always are found in a new corpse search. I don´t know if that its relevant, but is strange to me.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, I DON´T KNOW WHAT´S HAPPEN. Can you fix it?
i have heard occasionally around on the forums of peoples power buttons and such doing this after a while, if that is the case you might be able to test for it but its kinda complicated. Is it sleeping or shutting off? If it's shutting off it would be interesting to see why but you'd have to have either a logcat running on the pc the entire time, a cat of the kmsg, or something of that nature running and turn off while its doing that, then you can find the root of the problem. If it won't do it while plugged in, cm has a way to wirelessly do adb commands. I think hashcode said in his sources theres a test binary for the buttons to see if they are doing anything, but i'd have to figure out how to cross compile it by itself if thats the case, unless its precompiled.
Yes, cassualy I fix it last week. I open the Kindle, looking the wires and conectors and close again. And voila . . . fixed!

Ok ladies and gents,
I've been on a mission to root my Note 5 N920I for months now.
My problem is no computer will read/recognise the device. The Mac's seem to not even recognise it's plugged in, with Windows, no matter which driver I install it keeps telling me the "device descriptor failed blah blah blah". I managed to root my S4 very easily on Mac with Jodin3 so I know that it ain't no user error.
I've Googled and Googled ways to root without a computer or installing a custom recovery without root, but from what I understand I can't flash TWRP as recovery without a computer and therefore cannot root without a custom recovery.
I've Googled ways to fix the USB issue by making the xml file and putting it into the correct folder, but for that I need to be rooted. Right?
When she's plugged into a computer with USB debugging on or off nothing comes up in my notifications except for charging. I tried using the toolbox which I found on here (sorry can't remember the name) though it seemed like I was getting close, I couldn't get close enough before my temper got the better off me.
If my memory serves me correctly the OTG function worked when i first got the phone but didn't after the first update. My mate's Note 5 also has the same issue. I Googled it and seemed it was common issue on these phones.
I've tried to learn some Terminal/Command Prompt to see if I can fix it that way through Debian or whatever, only got as far as understanding it, kind of. Big ups to all you coders/programmers out there it really is an artform.
So PLZ PLZ can y'all help me, there has to be a way aside from setting this thing alight and getting a new phone.
My next mission, which I only embarked on a couple nights ago is unbricking my dad's Note 4 (N910G) that just hit the **** one day after spazzing out for a few days then would not turn on. I'm getting close though I haven't put much effort into that yet.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. ?
Forgive me if I've posted this thread in the wrong area
