Updates for Axon Pro - ZTE Axon Pro

I went through three different people in a ZTE chat session, last one supposedly a supervisor.
All of them had absolutely no information on possible updates, with very vague answers.
They only had pat answers that the Axon 7 was getting updates.
One of them did say the Axon was already at end-of-life.
With no support in XDA for anything, no community builds, ZTE likes planned obsolescence.
Unfortunately not everyone can buy a new phone every six months like they want.
Like it's been said many times, 'ZTE looks good on paper, but in reality it's all B.S"

same with the elite here in europe no updates no support i for one will never buy zte again even elephone has better ota history :/ at least you guys got marshmallow

No Lollipop for Turbo?

I've been a long time reader of this forum, since blackberry pearl was the newest hottest phone, but until now have yet to register. I got my turbo a week after release, and i love it...i read all these articles who's getting lollipop and when....If motorola is updating all their old phones from 2012, and us with their flagship phone have yet to get it, and there releasing phones this month with 5.0 on them to INDIA of all places, guys Turbo prolly isnt going to see it for awhile if ever...This phone IMO was like verizons ellipsis tablet, released with one update and no further information lol yeah we all want a bug free OS, but to do a 3 year old phone and not your flagship phone?
( i know no periods)

What the hell do u mean, INDIA of all places? O.O
Motorola gets a really good share of profits only cuz of its sales of Moto G and Moto E in India! And please oh please... I hope u are not being racist!
And there are so many threads discussing this man.. If u said you actually having been reading XDA regularly u would have known better not to clutter the General Forum... What can people at XDA do about this? How can posting here help? Only Motorola can help, contact their customer care or through social media for your answer!!

These threads are tiring.
In that VoLTE is natively supported in 5.1, did you not consider that may be why there was a hold up, because Verizon wanted that?
I'll bet you 1,000.00 dollars we get Lollipop. Are you game? Post your paypal if so. I could use the money from an easily won bet
Edit: And yeah, that India comment was misplaced.
Yeah looks like its confirmed that the 5.1 HD Voice does mean it works with Verzion VoLTE (I wasn't sure based on the screenshot they had). Seems very possible when Motorola learned about this they held off on their 5.01 or whatever with HD Voice added in to just release the version with the code in it already. Which is a good thing. Because had they released 5.0.1 or whatever a couple of weeks ago, you would have people whining for 5.1. Hopefully this means it will hit the Turbo in a short time.
I made a post about the Nexus 6 coming to Verizon with 5.1 already on it and suggested that the DT might be jumping straight to 5.1 around the time the Nexus 6 drops on Verizon. My hit or miss post doesn't seem so irrelevant now. lol

Agreed. The phone is still fairly new and considered a current flagship phone for Motorola (Next to the Nexus 6 but that's Google's baby as well so I don't think it can count as Motorola's flagship entirely). Getting back to my point, saying that a flagship phone is not going to get an update to "the latest and greatest in android" is just asking for someone to talk badly about you and even more so a cry for attention. Which is something we don't need.
What I mean by India is a third world country of all places before here where it launched. I hope I am wrong but like my tablet I went into Verizon was was talked to by a salesman to go with this newest device it's a flagship device so I did and the updates are where? I left the Galaxy line with no issues great reception speedy updates... My tablet was the same thing a verizon exclusive updated once and forgotten.
What I'm saying is why update stuff that's old when after two years most people upgrade? My flagship store, I'm there daily to make sure it's running good, clean and people want to come back the old store has a customer base like the old phones they update them when it's time to update them things.

Don't worry about it. It's just kinda tense here sometimes, and we're all kinda surly and curmudgeonly because we seem to be kept in the dark regarding just about everything related to this device. Everyone has or had certain expectations from it and the support that we were expecting by Motorola and/or Verizon, and it's nowhere near as exciting as we'd hoped.

It's obvious we will get lollipop and now that 5.1 was released looks like that's what Motorola was waiting for and or the nexus 6 coming soon to vzw. Patience is a virtue and now that we have about 5 months now without lollipop then let's keep waiting. Better having a less bugs version than getting a rushed update of 5.0.1 or 5.0.2

Thank you all, Nexus 5 developers!!!

First thing's first: Don't judge me making this thread! It's just my opinion, Jesus...
So before you even reply, THINK ABOUT IT BRO! IT'S JUST AN OPINION!!!
Hi N5 Developers, or whoever's viewing this thread,
It's been a long time since the Nexus 5 was released and I still remember the day it came out of the box. The phone was so perfect after all those years, and without the developers who have supported the Nexus 5 for years, nothing's perfect. Now that there's way better phones-Google Pixel, OnePlus 3T, Galaxy S7...- and the Nexus 5 is not supported by Nougat. Yet, our devs still stayed and delivered us Nougat on Nexus 5. I just wanted to say thank you to all N5 devs out there, for supporting the device, for still hanging on to us users, for still creating wonderful work for it...
I know I'm the kind of person who doesn't do anything but eating stuff other people have grown, but think of yourself... Are you that kind of people?
Again, THANK YOU DEVS, even though me and many other people can't really support you by donating or contributing to your work, but can only use, praise and recognise, you still make the Nexus 5 experience better by all means
Sincerely,
Me and people who probably people who was the same thoughts
Thank you all Nexus5 Developer (2)

We've needed a thread like this ever since everyone wanted to constantly complain and nitpick (iPhone this, jelly that, etc). Cool.
Yep.
Stressed out and back home after a day's work. Was looking for a thread like this and found none. Nexus forums have a lot of these. At least when I used to own Nexus.
So thought I'd go ahead and create one cos I know we've got a lot of users.
All the negativity around here made me second guess my purchase a little and didn't have a single problem with my phone ?
Great thread!

Stock for the foreseeable future. When I finally get to the point where I unlock, I'll probably be on an OOS based ROM. OOS is just so good. Plus it'll probably take awhile for aftermarket ROMs to get the dual camera working 100%.

Should be getting my device today and I am excited. First OnePlus deviice. Hopefully no issues for me, fingers crossed. Used to be a heavy Android user, lately iPhone user. Making the decision to become a programmer has me interested in Android again and to learn java programming language. I will probably skin some things for this phone and maybe otthers if I pick up more Android phones, hell maybe build some roms in the near future.
bad night at work, mainly fixing others peoples f--- ups and sovling issues. I don't go back to work till Monday....... so fishing, gaming, messing with this phone (if no issues are found), birthday party, chilling with my daughters, school work, and swimming. Might be off work, but probably not much rest lol. :highfive:

Nice. I think you'll love the device.
Tip: Just don't bother with the negativity in the forum, the YouTube videos and news articles. Needless to say, I've seen people *****ing about the device every which way. This phone has been great for me, I've seen zero issues so far. I got it during the preorder sale.
This is my first oneplus device too. Oneplus has come a long distance from being "just another cheap Chinese phone", when I was skeptical about it, to creating a name in the smartphone industry.
I have been a Nexus fanatic since the nexus 4 but I don't think they are worth the price tag anymore.
I kinda started out like you, interested in Android, started off learning Java, building roms for the Nexus 4 ( I was on a team that built roms called Euphoria OS, now defunct). Then, as everyone lost interest, I shifted to making money out of coding skills. Built a couple of Android apps. Now I also do Python and JavaScript mainly. Its been a fun ride, never regretted my decision.

Why Not OREO Still?

Why Not OREO Still?
I think samsung wont release Oreo for note8, until S9 is out there it mean If u want Oreo than go buy s9/s9+
but what do u think?
because the milk man hasn't done his round yet.

I generally agree with this sentiment because Samsung offers so many features out of the box that don't depend on OS upgrades. There is an exception for Android 8/Oreo.... Those Bluetooth codecs: APTX HD and LDAC for premium Bluetooth audio.
I couldn't care less about Android 8 if it weren't for the codecs that unlock the rest of my Note 8's potential. I go wired headphones on my Note 8 or just use HiFi BT headphones with my Mi Mix running Android 8, which has the codecs.
This is the frustrating element of owning Samsung phones their updates are really slow as compared to other manufacturers like my previous Sony Xperia XZ Premium got the oreo two months ago!
why so many threads about not having oreo yet
Last year, they delivered nougat to S7 and S7 Edge in May.
So we still 2 mouths ahead the schedule (Samsung schedule).

Indonesian G935FD got nougat in February before s8/+ launching :victory:
Oreo update for s8/+ should come before s9/+ landing
My guess, and it is a guess, is that we aren't far away. There are more and more carrier's getting the February security patches, but they are normally the last to get updates, and those that normally get the updates earlier are still waiting and stuck on the January release. My suspicion is that rather than release the February security updates on Nougat, we are waiting for an impending Oreo release.
I'm sure if you're hunting the latest OS number, Samsung is definitely not your Manufacturer of choice and shouldn't be. Go for a OnePlus who has the newest numbers.
You can cry about it how much you want, it won't change a thing though. They'll release it in due time, when it's ready. You're phone is still able to make calls, handle IMs, browse the web and much more because Samsung usually loves to clutter their high-end phones with functions in comparison to others.
This is seriously getting out of hand, xda needs to monitor these threads and delete them. No point in crying about numbers.

Look at the view count for any thread that mentions 'Oreo', it tells you people here are desperate for it.
We will get Oreo this month according to some quite trustworthy leakers (Exynos). And US models might get it later this year. I guess Samsung had to fix some problems in February and they just decided to skip Oreo release until March. So that we will get Oreo with March security patch.
Don't worry man. It's around the corner. One day You will wake up and see Oreo OTA .

You do know most people bought the Note8 because it's actually a really convenient phone right and not just some show-off piece of glass & metal?
(With it's signature S-Pen, "big" display and primarily office /usability focus).
You're definitely in the wrong if you think buying the latest and greatest from a big company equals getting fast updates.
Surely Samsung could bust updates every 2 days to ensure People like you don't get on their nerves, but it's just that irrelevant to them and the vast majority.
Seriously, as long as you get your security patches, you're good to go IF you're one of those super concerned people.

There’s no reason for the rollout to be as delayed as it is, But Samsung raped hard note 8 user, People running carrier-locked versions of the devices have to wait even longer for the update, and by that time, Google will already have revealed this year’s version of Android; Android P.

Well, fine by me. Please do go ahead and have some unfinished version of SE 9.0 installed on your Note8 with loads of (to be expected) FCs. At least you'll have the latest and greatest Android 8.x right? Lmfao, pathetic.
Let them refine the 8.x release for the Note8. Samsung hasn't "raped" anyone in terms of SW updates and refrain from using words like that, you can surely articulate yourself a bit more appropriate. We'll eventually get the update.
Lastly, I really don't understand you or anyone else who's crying over not having the latest OS version. I don't get it, but yeah please continue to cry and entertain us.

Loads of FCs? But.. Note8 SD internal releases of Oreo are kinda bugless, S8 has identical HW and no bugs, S7E got internal release which is like 99% stable (and that 1% can be easily fixed).
And You should know the difference between complaining about lack of updates and crying.
Complaining: "Note8 is the latest phone from Samsung so why don't we get latest updates? S7E has stable SEx 9.0. We should get it too!"
Crying: ":crying::crying::crying::crying:y no oreooo halp i hate my phone!!:crying::crying:"
If You can't tell the difference between these two then I don't know. Maybe leave XDA? XDA is supposed to be helpful and positive. We don't need any negativity here.
Last Oreo thread was closed because of negativity and disrespectful behaviour.
Also, notice that when S8 users complained about Oreo update being delayed. And said that they won't buy Samsung phones anymore. Samsung quickly made a new update.
And Note8 users don't complain about it, and if they do, they get harassed by people like You. So no one talks about Oreo and we have to wait because Samsung thinks that we don't need Oreo.
I as a Dev would love to get Oreo already because my Dev friends are making S9 ports for S7E and S8 and I can't make one cause Samsung doesn't give us Oreo.

There's the thing my dude: It's not harassment nor negativity. Some xda sub-forums are slowly becoming more like reddit and that's annoying as hell. In all seriousness, you got your opinion and I got mine concerning users crying about newest OS version. (Just look at the OPs answers. Don't even need elaboration).
At some point it gets unbearable, I dare you to say "No it doesn't". Be real.
Trust me, I've been enjoying xda and it's "healthy" community because it's one amazing platform for people to connect and make Phone's software greater with team effort.
Now it's just people buying a phone, finding xda and expecting things to work from people who are doing stuff here for free & fun and in their free time. (e.g. The Xiaomi forums are cancerous or the Xposed nougat thread, when it was in the works)
I may not be a "known" Dev like you on xda, I do my own thing making smaller apps for friends and small local companies.
I got the patience and endurance to answer repetitive or similar questions over and over again, trust me.
If you feel this is negativity, I respect that, alright. I'm just being real.

Oh, and I'm not a known Dev on XDA . I'm just trying to make people happy with some "unique" roms. And it would be awesome if You'd share some of Your Dev work with us . Maybe some us would find it useful? .
And I know that we had a lot of Oreo threads already and they have identical questions and answers. Because we are just people not Samsung's employees so we can't tell someone when they will get Oreo. But I guess we can deal with these guys in a slightly more polite way and just tell them that we all are waiting for Oreo instead of saying that they are crying. People here live in various countries and have different cultures than we do. And some of them might find word "crying" offensive and disrespectful.

All good, glad we aligned back on one wavelength.
About the dev work:
Mostly is just freelancing, IT students gotta do what we can do, to make that paper. That's why I haven't contributed to xda so far in regards to releases.
Agreed on the bit with just telling them off instead of crying. But yeah, I do assume you can relate if something is getting penetratingly much lol.

OnePlus terminating dev seeding program

As title says, OnePlus will no longer provide devices for developers. Info here: https://twitter.com/topjohnwu/status/1067440574729457664

Time to find a new Dev friendly company. OP gonna f themselves with this move. The only reason they are so popular is because of the devs.
So .. we are mad because a company won't give you free stuff? This won't be a popular post, but it's true 99% of the people that use this phone will never care about any development. It would benefit the company to give the free phones to reviewers (where sales can be made) Even if everyone on this forum and the one plus forum didnt buy the device...it woukdnt pjase rhem one bit. #quethehate
They are killing the enthusiastic culture for money.

Too bad there are not many choices out there compared to a few years ago.
I hope I'm wrong here, but, I could see this creeping towards locked bootloaders if OnePlus' data indicates the overwhelming majority of users run a stock/unrooted phone.
Certainly, the partnership with T-Mobile is paying off, I could see this expanding to more carriers & if the price is right,OnePlus would drop aftermarket development like a bad habit....
This is the dead for Oneplus. We will see no custom rom on 6t. Look at 6 thread, there are just 4 or 5 roms. Oneplus hype is over. I give return now my 6t. The 5t was the last with good custom rom support.

Assuming 20 dev devices sent out, there's likely over the double amount of bought devices because of the devs. Seems like for such a small investment in the dev community should be worth it? Hell, the negative PR due to ending the program should cost more.

They're not giving you (us) free stuff. They were giving very well established developers free phones. They had the list of developers posted some where. It was a very short list (under 50 world wide). It's a 0.002% kind of numbers they were giving out. (Based on the OP6 selling 1 million phones in the first month. We'll say they sold 2 million total since then). They're definitely giving out many more review phones. And overall it's a drop in the bucket compared to other advertising spending.
A good break down of this is the Linus Tech Tips video on computer hardware rebranding. He does a very basic break down of the costs of launching new hardware. And how much of a return they get by getting reviewers to review old hardware with a new name. It's not exactly the same as here. But there are users out there who purchase a phone based on development.
I'm only one person, and this is purely anecdotal, but the only reason I even considered this phone was due OnePlus previous history of being very developer friendly. Even with the half off deal through T-Mobile, I was still on the fence about getting this over a Pixel. I'll evaluate how this goes over the next year and if anything, I'll swap from a 2-3 year phone user to only using this phone for a year and go pick up the Pixel 4 next year.

I specifically use OP because I can mess with it, root it, change things. A month after the Galaxy phones come out, they drop to nearly what OP sells them for new. If I can't root my phone, why would I settle for the corners that OP cuts over a better - mostly everything - on a Samsung or Pixel? No reason in my mind.

Not to be rude but you seem to be posting very negative comments about custom roms and developers for the 6t. If you don't like the phone, return it. And as I've stated elsewhere, developers have been busting their butts trying to get twrp up and running. Which as of yesterday is now available. I personally don't see custom roms coming out until a permanent twrp was available. Now that that is, I'm sure there will be roms coming out in relatively short time. Personally I find your negative comments insulting to developers. Again if you are unhappy with the device then return it, no one's stopping you. I'm not trying to pick on you, I just find it frustrating and again demeaning to all the hard work that devs have been putting into making this phone available to use custom roms on. Rant done.

No point to waste your time man it's just another entitled user that thinks XDA is a place to make your phone cool not a developer forum.

That's a lot nicer than I would have put it. Just didn't want to get banned. ??
Give it a year or so and the bootloaders will be unlockable.
I think a good amount of the posting is to "ruffle the feathers."
It's not like the ONLY people who develop a device are those that get a free device from the manufacturer.
If you want development on a phone that has flagship-like specs (good screen, latest snapdragon, above average camera) there isn't much selection in the USA. It's this or a Pixel or buy something abroad (e.g. Exynos based Galaxy). Otherwise your out of luck. As long as the bootloader remains easily unlocked and their devices are easily rooted I could care less.
Typical click-bait type of article with the expected response.

The majority of their customers won't even understand what this means let alone care that OP stopped doing it. The impact it will have on their sales will be a rounding error. Yes, as a percentage of total units sold, OP likely has more customers that root/ROM vs companies like Samsung. However, it looks like they're trying to focus on the main part of the business and not deal with small things that don't drive significant sales. That puts a program like this on the chopping block.
I get why they might do this, however, the only reason I buy OnePlus devices is the development support. So if development dies, I don't buy anymore phones. We have multiple OP phones in the house. I bought the 5T and now the 6T before Lineage was out, sounds like I won't buy anymore devices until ROMs are available just to be certain. The problem with that is with the short development cycle by the time that happens OP maybe onto the next device...

This is a very valid point.
threatening to not buy devices because of lack of development is like spitting into a hurricane; no one will notice, and it wont matter one bit..
once any of the enthusiast companies start to get large sales volume, and smell corporate business, their willingness to help enthusiasts of any sort diminishes greatly..If google thought they could land more giant corporate accounts by locking down the pixel phones like samsung did, they would do it in a minute..follow the money is what all my friends tell me now a days, and they are right..
You can be as outraged as you want to over OP deciding to drop "free" anything to developers; its not going to effect any change of any sort, so you might as well save your outrage for something else..sooner or later, all bootloaders will be locked, and you wont have any better choices..
Did everyone see the update from OnePlus?
“Apologies, we weren’t as clear as we could have been. We’ve temporarily scaled back our developer program while we work out how to make it even better in the future. We’ll be updating the selection criteria and communication channels with developers in our seeding program for better co-operation. We will restart the program and select Devs based on the new criteria and will work on providing the best possible support to community development efforts for OnePlus devices.” – OnePlus Spokesperson
