Any way to reprogram the slider without root? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hi, like the title says. I tried Notification Slider by Seveilith, but it doesn't seem to work on the 3T. More specifically i just want completely silent on one (excluding alarms), vibrate (excluding alarms) on another, and normal ringing on the last. I don't care about priority settings or those kinds of things. But I don't really want to root (I don't miss much), since I'd lose OTA.

What all allows you to do this with root? And not needed xposed? I am rooted but do not want to install xposed

I'm rooted with exposed and tried many ways to modify this annoying slider with zero success. It's the only thing I dislike about this phone. Custom Roms will eventually fix it even if OnePlus doesn't.

Isn't that exactly what you have now? This is how mine works:
Upper: Vibrate only.
Middle: DND, alarms only.
Lower: Normal, ringtone + vibration.

Upper is not viable only. It's silent

Well you can change that pretty easily by going to the slider settings.
Settings > Alert Slider > Silent > Enable Vibration

I miss vibrate mode only too. I hope there is coming a app or xposed module.

Yes and no
Sure you can turn in vibration but everything else is silent then. Example. If I put my slider in upper I get NO notifications to my android Wear. None at all.

That's kind of strange. I feel like that's more what DND is supposed to do. I guess you could always enable the "silence phone when watch is connected"-setting in Android Wear as a workaround.

When I set the middle one, it seems like it can't turn down ring to zero, the lowest it will go is one step before. This leads me to think they don't want it to be completely silent/only vibrate. I can't take a screenshot because it keeps disappearing when I do the three finger swipe, but try it.

That's only because it defaults to changing the alarm volume in DND mode.

App Notification Settings - Vibrate

I tend to not have vibrate on out night especially this phone, the vibrate is quite loud and the curved back doesn't help when the phone is on my bedside cabinet.
I switched to sound only in sound settings but to my surprise it still vibrated when I received a text via stock sms app, I guess the same would happen if I received a whatsapp message.
Does anybody know how to easily turn off ALL App specific vibrate settings in go? Or would I have to go into each individual app to switch it off?
Thanks

Great timing, I was just about to post the same question (if it's an answer you want the best I can offer is "No, I don't think you can, at least I haven't found out how, which is why I'm here").
For me it's the alarm, a nice tune to wake up to is great but it's not so nice when the phone spazzes out and bounces all over the cabinet like a runaway chainsaw (over dramatic, moi?). I've not found anything to turn it off and it's really annoying.
Bit of a design flaw really, surely the overall sound settings should be the master, but a setting should allow you to override it via app, I.e if on it allows app settings to use it's own sound settings if off it goes by the master. Maybe that's expecting too much.

It's worse than that, I don't have vibration switched on for anything, the sound profile is "Normal" (as opposed to Vibrate or Silent) and my in-app settings also have it turned off wherever there's an option to do so but the alarm still sets it off.
I suffer from the same....

I tied to install the GE HD3.2 and it has an option to get the alarm without vibration.
when I switched back to Revolution 20.2 this option disappeared......
Just push the stock GE clock app to your system/app folder and set correct permissions and you can turn vibrate off on any Sense ROM ... Best way is to just flash that app in custom recovery, I will post it if anybody requires.

Turn off Vibrate

Hopefully a quick topic, but anyone with a Nexus 6 / Lollipop figure out how to turn off notification vibration?

I think for now you have to change the the notifications setting below the volume slider to "None". I don't have my Nexus 6 yet, but I did update to Lollipop on my Nexus 5.

Which notification/s? Most if not all (that I know of) have their own setting within the app itself. This would go in the Q&A section
Some apps like "Power Toggles" will allow you to use a toggle that gives you the old Silent mode back. It looks like it is in priority mode but it's one step further. Notification light works, alarms work but nothing makes noises (all the system noises are silenced). I am using that for now.
How is there not a complete silent mode on this phone? Ridiculous, especially considering the Nexus 9 has one and it's a TABLET!!!

No, this turns off ALL notifications. There should be a way to still get notifications without the phone vibrating.

I still want my notifications to show up on my phone/moto 360 but the way the Nexus 6 handles the notifications makes my moto pretty much useless.
I love this phone, but this was a stupid mistake on Google's part. You should be able to disable all vibrations without impact to notifications. On top of that, you should be able to control the intensity of the vibrations. Uggg. :bad:

Agreed. For me the vibration motor on this phone is louder than the actual notification sounds, it's embarrassing. Was able to customize intensity on my Note 2. I've just been using priority mode to keep things silent during work, and the Pushbullet app to have notifications pop up on my computer. That system has been working pretty well at least.
No fix for this yet?

You can change the intensity using custom kernel like elementalX.

Yes, but I shouldn't have to run a custom kernel. This is a ridiculous oversight by Google.

I'm not exactly -against- running a custom kernel, but I'd like to modify as little as possible. At this point, I'd totally be willing to disable vibration completely rather than try and tweak it into oblivion. I'm currently on the CM12 official nightly. I was using franco kernel, and it was good, but it seems that the cm kernel is doing just fine for me right now.
If anyone knows a surefire way to break the vibration(in software) do tell!!
So I use an app called audio manager and one of the options is to make vibrations to be turned off. This has worked for me with no impact to notifications. This is a great fix for those of us who are trying to stay factory
Here is screen shot of what to do in the correct order
there is an option in the phone, and messaging app, that you can turn off vibration. go into messages.. click settings, notifications, viola.. uncheck the vibrate box.
I don't have any vibrate on any of my notifications all the apps have there own settings as to whether u want vibrate or not.

Its kinda old though:
I turn off my vibration notification by going to the app.
For me was to disable only vibration of Hangout notification.
I went :
1) slide main menu of Hangout
2) Setting
3) choose account like [email protected]
4) In HANGOUT NOTIFICAITON section, click "Hangout messages & invites"
5) uncheck vibrate to disable.
Enjoy!

Separate volume control for notifications and flashlight.

I am testing out a Moto Z Force (coming from a Nexus 6P) to see if I can handle switching without having root. And a couple of things I am missing already. Is there anyway to break out the volume controls and have a separate control for ringtone and a separate one for your notifications like sms? I hate having the same volume control for ringtone and sms. Next, I miss my "power menu". Is there anyway to get the flashlight option by pressing and holding the power button down?
I know these are not big deals...just seeing if I can fix them
@darkcyber20 I don't know of a way without having root privileges to ruin the volume controls.
For the flashlight though, Moto has baked in a gesture for quickly enabling it. It's a double chop motion. Look in the Moto app, in the section called Actions.

Well, crap! Why do these phone manufactures think people want to have the same volume level for their ringtone as for their text app? Thanks for the information! The ringtones and notifications sounds are considerable lower than my Nexus 6P

I personally hate the separate ringtone/notification volume controls. That was one thing that seriously annoyed me about the Sammy phones I have owned. I'd lower the volume with the side buttons then get blasted by a notification tone.

I like separate volume controls. I use an app to set the volumes/vibration appropriately for the situation.
Also, it should be easy to allow the volumes to be linked if desired. Someday we will have the best of both worlds.

The app I use is called Audio Profiles. Unfortunately it does not have the ability to set different volumes for the ring tone and the notification unless the phone allows it. I had the LG G5 and the Note 7 (for a few days) and it worked with both of those. It won't work with the Moto Z family. My comment that you quoted simply meant that it shouldn't be that hard for the software to allow either separated or linked ring and notification tones.
However, my notification tone is OK. There is a known issue with the notification tones being hosed. It seems to be sort of random. When I was trying to select a tone, I could not hear some of them so I selected one that was a good volume. Not sure if you are able to pick one that sounds OK. Some folks can and some cannot. Hopefully this will be resolved with the next update.
Also, Audio Profiles is not perfect. Sometime it doesn't give you the profile you selected. It is better than 95% with my experience which isn't bad. I had a hard time finding one that worked at all. I used to use Tasker, but gave that up.

Some question on OnePlus 3T and OOS 4.0 (coming from OnePlus One (COS or CM14.1)

1. Is there no way hide notification on lock screen for apps that's always in the notification bar (like Tasker or Call Recorder?)
2. I can't find anyway to turn of the screen by double tap the notification bar (like in COS or CM).

1. I'm using the payed version of call-recorder, and I can disable the notificationbar icon and notification.
2. Sadly this feature (or better gesture) is not availible in oos.

Call recorder is a widely used name for apps that record calls. I use the one from Skvalex, also payed version.
What I mean is that normally apps that shall stay active all the time needs to be in notification bar, but I rather don't see it when I only turn on the display with the lock screen.
In CM and COS I could deal with this with options like "never show for apps always in notification bar".

Hmm, I'm on 4.0 and havn't used call-recorder in the short time I was on 3.5.4, next time I'm restoring 3.5.4, I'll check and report back.
Stupid me! It was because I had no PIN set on the phone, I had no specific options for the lock screen.

Question Push notification delayed until screen is on

Having used the phone for a week now, no major issues, but just one thing annoying me.
Some apps' notification are not received when my screen is off. Once I wake up my phone, the messages are then received and shown. But some apps (like WhatsApp, Messages) are working fine.
I've checked all the battery optimization settings for those affected apps but had no clues why they are not working the way they should. These apps are working fine in my other devices.
Appreciate any suggetsions.
Sounds like what I experience with OnePlus phones...something they did to make the battery last longer between charging cycles. Not much you can do. If they allowed background apps to work as we wish they would the battery life would stink and people would complain and sales would drop.
In my experience this depends on the system mode you select under settings/battery. For me in the dynamic mode notifications appear without delay, but some appear only when I turn on the screen in the durable mode.

It's a setting from security and lockscreen. Press the clog at the right of screen lock. There you have a setting called notifications on lockscreen. Set it to show all notifications
Disable adaptive notifications. This should fix the issue.

no, it's not related to whether notification is showing in lock screen or not. the symptom is that only when i wake up the phone, the notification will then be received. i can see from the firewall log that google service framework accessed data as soon as the phone is awake.
