Hey everyone,
I just got my Mi Mix and noticed on the HOME SCREEN, the navigation bar on the bottom is transparent/black - but when you go INTO an application (likes Whatsapp or Reddit), the nav bar turns WHITE.
It's a bit annoying because i use a dark theme on the Reddit is fun app, so the nav bar just sticks out hugely
Does anyone know a way to keep the navigation bar transparent or black permanently through all apps ? Or is there a free theme on the Mi store that people have good luck with?
Thanks!
if you root and install xposed it is easy to change it to whatever you want.
first thing i'll do when/if this phone ever arrives is install xposed and get rid of the nav bar all together and only use pie controls, makes things much easier on a big phone as well

thanks for the suggestion but I didn't bother unlocking and rooting this thing. I guess i just dont have as much time as before to tinker around anymore. Is there a way to do it without rooting?
@Bakedbread
Try Emoji Color Navbar in the Google Play Store.
Just loaded it up to get the navigation bar to be black system wide (color is fully customizable) ,no root required.
Edit:
Seems to be persistent only on the home screen & YMMV on other apps, sorry 'bout that.

Go into settings and buttons and select hide nav then it will be come transparent
On homescreen it seems to be transparent, some applications are able to change it to black (or according to the app's color), but in settings and most apps it stays white unfortunately.

Did anyone find a decent way round this without root?
You have to unlock the device [bootloader], root it and then modify some files to make these options available. Xpose has a module that does these things too, still requires bootloader unlock and root.
What's the name of the xposed?
Flat Style Colored Bars seems to be able to make this job... can adapt color based on main color or you can assign a primary color persistent...
I usee to version designed to adapt google keyboard on main color of each apps... wonderfull

Doesn't work for me. What exactly do you have to select to make the navigation bar color transparent?

It doesn't make fully transparent, actually tints the nav bar to get matching the color of background app which feels like transparent. But either way looks better than black bg.
Im done with nav bar since I found Smart touch button app though; resizeable, personalizable(icon, transparency), can be placed everywhere, lots of gestures and holding less place on the screen.

Hi,
Seeing as the notification status bar widgets/toggles were popular features in cm7 roms and much sought-after in ICS roms, and wanting to experience ICS in its stock form before trying any custom roms, I went about trying to find a way to get status bar toggles back because they're really convenient for switching things on/off (eg rotation) without having to leave an app. Widgetsoid, an app obtainable from the android market, suits my needs, placing no-frills one-touch toggles in my notification bar, and handily having an option to hide the ongoing notification icon so my status bar remains 'pure'. This way I can get cm-like settings whilst keeping to the more stable (imo) and stock rom. Free version is here and donate version is here.
I'm not affliated with this app or its maker in any way, just thought I'd share something that made my life a little easier/my phone a little better.
Cheers and a late Merry Christmas to all!
I agree it is great. I was looking for a transparent control panel widget and couldn't find something decent.
This is really great, it works like a charm.
Wow, it doesn't work on GB (I have to tap the notification to open the popup, then do the actual toggle) If it works on ICS then that's a really good news!

Now the only issue is I cannot really "hide" the notification icon. It is transparent but it is there. If there are other notification icons, it will look like there is a "space" in the notification area
Oh that's cool, I didn't realize that Widgetsoid would do that. I wished I could make the custom color stick though...
Very nice, I was using Widgetsoid for months and didnt know that. The colors are a little ugly but it works well in the notification bar.

AFAIK in order for the toggles to stay there it has to be an 'ongoing' notification, which means the icon has to stay there, so the next best alternative would be an invisible, transparent icon

The colours were annoying me too, so I emailed the dev, hopefully he's able to get a fix or update of sorts! Setting the toggle indicator to 'dot' makes it less 'in your face' imo.

Yeah I kinda understand that part.
Just wonder if it's possible to make the icon "always in the rightmost position" so it doesn't appear between or in front of other notification icons?
Colors are not that bad with setup like this... Only thing I can't change is backgroud (I would put it to transparent, but there's no such option) everything else is configurable....

Thanks for the tip. I tried this before on my HTC Hero, but as mentioned in a post above I had to open up a popup first in ordere to enable anything. This is so cool now.
I've been using Widgetsoid pretty much since I got my Nexus. I can't belive I forgot about that option... Used to have it on my HS on GB, but now I've got it tucked away in notifications!
thanks!
ps. not sure if he'll reply to, I did send in a detailed bug report once and I didn't get any response from him. last I checked he hasn't updated since april '11

I was trying to get it to do the same blue color as ICS uses. I used a screenshot to pull the color but when I type it in the custom box it doesn't actually change to that color.
Can Widgetsoid toggle data on ICS rooted ?
How about "extended control"?

I got blue color of the icons, but didn't like how it looks on grey background, so I decided to go with black icons... I didn't copy color code, but just changed the color on color chooser to look as much as possible blue as ICS default... It did look same (at least to me), but, as I said, didn't like blue/grey combination...

Hello Xda!
This is my new app DeskBar Launcher. It creates a bar at the bottom of the screen of your Android device and can even replace your virtual buttons Home, Recent Apps and Back. Back button needs root for the moment but soon accessible with no root for all 4.1+ devices). If you have physical buttons or want to keep your stock ones, there's an autohide option much like bar you can find on Windows, Linux, etc.
Features :
-add shortcuts to your favorite apps on the bar or in the StartMenu
-can replace your virtual buttons (optional Menu button will need root. Back button too except if you have Android 4.1+)
-music controllers to pause/go to next/previous song in any apps
-volume controllers
-lock button to minimize accidental input of your bar and soft buttons
-(Experimental)(ROOT) Fullscreen button
-access all your apps in StartMenu as well as categories such as Pictures, Music, Settings, etc.
-launch search, lock screen or shutdown(ROOT) your device from the StartMenu
-Customize the appearance of your bar and menu.
Future features:
-Folders
There's a 10days-trial version available here : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stephapps.deskbar
And the license key at $2.49 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stephapps.deskbarkey
Don't hesitate to post all your questions, suggestions, or if you encounter any problem!
Hello a big update (1.2) is coming, Here's the changelog:
Change log 1.2
-added optional menu button
-added search button and power button in startMenu( lock screen, (root) shutdown/reboot )
-added new customization tab in options for deskbar, startmenu, startButton
-added default icons for first time launch
-fixed bug with icons not sizing correctly sometimes in startMenu
-added personalized shortcuts in startMenu.
-bugfixes including the ones reported.
Can't wait to see what some of you will do with the new customization options (which might be buggy for the moment, this feature is kind of beta right now) , don't hesitate to post pictures if you have some cool results!

Thanks guys,
I'm working on a white theme but I have no idea for other themes :silly:.
Hey let's have a little contest. Submit your custom theme (no copyright stuff please), and if it's selected to be inserted into the app, you'll have an unlimited trial  (similar to a paid version, I have sadly no easy way to directly give away the paid version ) and your name in the app credits of course.
What's needed:
-background for Deskbar
-background for the StartMenu
-2 images for pressed and normal StartButton states.
You might need to use 9patch for the 2 first ones.
I absolutely love this app! This is exactly what I have been looking for! If I may recommend some features for in the future, I prefer to have half of the bar so I can access my notifications, but it's difficult to reach the navigation icons in the middle. Could there be an option to have them appear under the start menu above the lock screen button? I'm also curious if the applications on the bar could be changed from shortcuts to the most recent apps. That might not be possible, but it would be a very useful feature as there already is a quick shortcut option under the start menu. Love your work and I'm excited to see the direction of this app!

Hello, thanks for your nice feedback!
You're the second person to ask for the virtual buttons to be in the start menu, so I think I will try to add it soon.
For recent apps, it won't be easy to add it to the bar. In start menu it will be easier but might be less interesting.
When selecting "pictures" under the start button on my gt-p3113 and Galaxy S3 the gallery starts to open but then crashes with the message "unable to find item". This happens regardless of the default gallery I choose. Other than that id just like to say I really love this app. With ubuntu style sidebars getting a lot of attention lately I feel this needs equal if not more and I will recommend this to everyone. Keep up the great work! Also I think it would be nice if users could adjust the amount of time it takes for the bar to disappear and perhaps the option for the bar to stay until the user decides to swipe it away.
How is this uninstalled? When i deactivate from Google Play it does nothing, nor can i uninstall from apps manage?
Tried to remove this from device admin, but it doesn't appear there, so no way to uninstall
You enabled the administrative mode to allow the app to lock the screen on demand. You need to disable this lock screen feature first to be able to uninstall (as stated when you tick the option).
Beta question
is there a beta apk where some feature are in beta are tested?
if so, I would like to help test the beta version.
Very nice app, using it on my Samsung Galaxy player running Gingerbread 2.3, which has no virtual nav keys. I can't find any option in settings to disable the autohide function, so I can keep the bar on screen. Am I missing something here, or is it because the Galaxy Player doesn't actually have its own soft keys and a nav bar?
Would certainly like to purchase this app, if I can get the bar to stop autohiding.
EDIT: Well, I installed deskbar on my Touchpad and the option to disable autohide is there. So, it looks like for some reason, it doesn't show up on my Galaxy Player 4.0 running Gingerbread 2.3.
Thanks,
Mike T

I think that it's possible for Statusbar, but not sure about Navbar. Because if navbar will be transparent, icons in apps and games will "hide" in back of it.
This could work for statusbar, but not sure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39367195

i think it sbhould be possible for both. if it's just transparency we're looking for.
as far as i know, these backgrounds for nav- and statusbar are png-files. so if a fully transparent png is used instead of a black one?!
apps won't know and don't care for if the bar is black, white, yellow or transparent, i guess.
but i don't know if the background image will expand "behind" the transparent bars...
I will donate to anyone who success this. Really love semi transparency status bar + nav bar.

Of course you can always go with another launcher, but I, amongst me many others... Prefer the Sony stock launcher.

That's a question. If it will use app's background, it will also use app's icons, which will be impossible to click. But statusbar could "hide" and appear with sliding like in samsung and htc devices.

With ReGXM EX with the Navigationbar plugin for me it does on the right side (which is fine). Also it enables to re-distribute the 5 buttons on the screen by spacing them, so I can make full use of the screen width.
I'd like to promote ReGXM EX abit. It has a small memory footprint, stabil, and only functions needed. Not 80 % esoteric or play stuff like Gravitybox.

True, but a lot of people actually use the functions in Gravity Box. Aside from that, Gravity Box has more features in the same section modifications as ReGXM. For instance, you can't add custom actions to the software navigation buttons in ReGXM, which you can do in GB; example: double tap Menu key to turn screen off, and long press it to bring up the Power Menu; reassign the the "Recent apps" button so that it behaves as a "Back" button, and enable the "Menu" button to always be visible, that you way you have the exact same layout on both sides, so you can use it with one hand either from the left or the right. Then I make the "Recent apps" list appear when double tapping/long pressing the "Home" key.

That does makes sense, actually, and looks nice symmetric. If you want to do these things. Gravitybox has far more functions.
But if someone just wanna align the buttons, center the clock and such, then ReGXM is just fine. I'll try, and request more modules for ReGXM.

I think what he means is getting rid of the status bar altogether and extending the screen.
I used to do it in my note 9, but since that didn't have a notch, it gave an immersive expereience.
Ex : if you open youtube in portrait mode, it still shows status bar....it should just show complete screen and when you scroll, the content should scroll over the notch

Been using that solution to hide the ugly (but useful since it includes a 3D face scanner and a notification LED in addition to the FFC and speaker) on mate 20 pro. However, on Huawei the icons are still maintained on the sides of the notch which frees up real estate.
TBH, I would take the FFC hole over a black bar at the top in most apps.
Mind you, it's less of a problem with dark mode.
There is a setting under "Developer..." that allows you to play with the cutout. I didn't see any difference on my black top bar....Search for "cutout" in Settings.

Been using that solution to hide the ugly (but useful since it includes a 3D face scanner and a notification LED in addition to the FFC and speaker) on mate 20 pro. However, on Huawei the icons are still maintained on the sides of the notch which frees up real estate.

Already do , theres couples of option in there , but none to block all the status bar black , like they used to . It just "notch" type , punch hole type and some waterfull cut tho , nvmnd
The update to android 11 may have been a mistake, kinda was regretting it. Then I found an app called 'Notch Hider', this is the package name: "com.fragments.notch.notchhider". It let's you customize the height of the status bar and makes it black. Hope this helps.
Sorry if I'm kinda late
I use Magisk 'None Display Cutout' and for immersive mode: Immersive Manager (PlayStore) - works well
Well it's fine even tho im not using the device anymore . But thankyou
