Hello everyone,
I was thinking of getting a Huawei P9, but I've heard some negative comments about the EMUI and want to know your opinion.
Here are my questions/concerns:
Performance, Is EMUI slower than stock android? (I have no idea if you can flash a stock rom on the P9)
Bloatware, are there any extra apps and can they be deleted?
Experience, does it give the traditional android experience and freedom, or is it more like iOS?
Rooting, can it be easily rooted?
If I don't like the EMUI, are there any 3rd party roms that can be put on the P9 for a better experience?
Thanks in advance.

guys i have bought a new one plus 3t device and its running mm 6.0.1
should i update to oos 4.1.6
is it better in terms of battery life and performance
p.s i do not intend to root or install any custom.rom right now and want to stick to oos for now
my basic requirements are good batter life and stability
So basically you are wondering if Android 7.x is better than Android 6.x ?
Well I guess the point is quite obvious.
Or why did you bother buying a new phone?

Everyone is going to have a different experience with battery life and performance. Of course, the intent with each update, is to improve these thing (although it doesn't always work out this way) as well as increased features and security.
4.1.6 is running great for me.

thnx for the info
feeling positive about upgrading now
OOS 4.1.6 is great imho. No issues so far, I couldn't go back to MM. People sometimes have issues because they flash updates over updates without wipe, and sometimes the phone may need it.
Since your device is brand new and you don't have a lot a data on it yet, I strongly advice you to update your phone to 4.1.6 and then to reset it (data and settings). This way you'll get a clean, fresh and proper update to use your new phone on Nougat in best conditions possible.

4.1.6 It's not an early update, it's not a beta rom.
It's a stable rom officially released.
Regarding battery there are dozen of complaints, but also many users who don't have an issue.
So, you can't really make up your mind just by reading on the comments of other users.

Hi all...my Nova plus is dead so,now got a brand new P10...
and really miss Emui4 so...
is there a wai to replace VTR-L09C654B213 ( emui5) with an emui 4 firmware ?
For God's sake why would you want EMUI 4?
No, it isn't possible. P10 came with newer Android with EMUI 5 preinstalled. This downgrade is merely impossible
I prefer emui4...sorry ?
Thanks for the answer tho ??
Because EMUI 4 was much more user friendly. I miss it too. EMUI 5 is closer to stock Android which is a bad thing, aside from die-hard geeks there's not much love for it.
Hello everybody,
first of all: I'm completely new to custom ROMs. I've just used some phones with CyanogenMod long ago.
Currently I have a Galaxy S8 with the default shipped Samsung OS.
I thought about buying the Huawei P20 Pro because people say it has a very good camera.
And I want to switch to custom ROMs because of privacy concerns.
Especially because I've read very bad things about Huawei collecting A LOT of my personal information and also its connection to the chinese government.
Obviously I want to install my OS without Google's services and also I want a ROM without bloatware.
I want a clean, stable and performant system.
I use the phone for surfing, chatting, mails, camera and music mainly.
Currently I'm only aware of LineageOS. Should I maybe consider another ROM too?
- How good is LineageOS in aspect of privacy?
- Does it work well on the Huawei P20?
- Is the camera as good as with Huawei's default OS?
Thank you in advance!

First off. It is a great camera so you're right there.
However, so not buy the P20 Pro, the bootloader can no longer be unlocked, so custom ROMs for a late adopter is not possible.
My advice, keep hold of the S8, personally is root I and install one of the many ROMs you probably have available , here on the p20 pro we have 2, treble doesn't work without rebooting every ten minutes and the fingerprint doesn't work.
Doesn't sound great I know, but the phones so good and lineage is decent enough if the bootloader could be unlocked I'd recommend it.
But as it can't be, I can't recommend it.
I went from a rooted Nexus 6P to a P20 Pro a few months ago. While I like the hardware, love the camera, I am not a fan of the EMUI Android OS skin, or the lack of root. I specifically prefer the GApps over the Huawei ecosystem of apps that comes pre-installed.
I would like to install a 'stock' Android ROM, similar to my old Nexus 6P, including root. However, I am a bit overwhelmed by all the options available, required steps to get there and the issues people seem to be having. Especially compared to my old Nexus 6P where unlocking and rooting were a breeze.
Note that I am not that experienced with rooting and custom android roms, but I got around my Nexus 6P and guides pretty well.
Could you please point me in the direction what steps I need to take in my situation?
I reckon I first need to unlock my bootloader. I saw some retailers starting to offer these again. Will keep a close eye on those developments!
What ROM should I go for that best reflects the 'stock' Android experience with as few customizations as possible? I figured LineageOS or CypherOS are the most popular and well maintained roms.
I always updated my P20 Pro to the latest version whenever it came out. Is that an issue and/or should I downgrade first?
Can I get the same camera experience on the custom 'stock' Android ROMs? The one thing I like about the Huawei software is the camera that fully uses the 3 hardware lenses.
How is the device updated after installing a custom ROM. Does it support OTAs? On my Nexus 6P I had to manually flash the monthly updates which got quite annoying.
Any other tips, risks or things I should know before starting?
Thanks for helping me out!
Anyone got any tips? Looks like the keys to unlock bootloader are available again, albeit at a higher cost. Would like to start experimenting!
I'm also on that quest to @chillzilla. No one has responded a couple of videos online especially the tutorial for the lineage OS.
Got my code off FH last Friday and unlocked the bootloader.
Since then, I have been trying to work out how to root it and then rebrand it.
Not found anything concrete to work from yet, a lot of guides are old.
I heard about open kirin and I think it's could be the best usage right now, about the camera you can install the apk file of the real rom it's works like a charm. Fill free to take a look I created a poll about the best rom that we can use and see the options and choose what you want to like.
Happy hacking
Hi Folks,
I want to develop some apps to use on my old P20 Pro. I need to teach myself how to code and develop apps on Android and given the phone is running Huawei's EMUI, it might be worth running "pure" Android on it, so I am learning Android and not EMUI specifically.
Note, I am starting fresh in this journey so I don't fully understand the differences in the platforms and I want my learning journey to be as progressive as possible so.......
a) is it possible to do this and if so, how do I convert the phones to (EMUI 10 & EMUI 12) Android and which version?
b) is it worth doing to avoid confusing the two Android versions?
Thanks folks.
