Will a Samsung Gear S3 Frontier work with the 3T? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Contemplating the purchase of a Gear S3 Frontier. The 3T isn't listed as a compatible device. Does anyone have experience with the 3T working with this smartwatch?

"Sync the Gear S3 with your compatible Galaxy phone, or another Android phone"
You will get most of the features working:
8 Compatible with select devices using Android 4.4 and later with at least 1.5GB RAM. Supported devices may vary by carrier and device. Some features may not be available. For best results, connect with compatible Samsung Galaxy devices.
9 Call experience may vary depending on manufacturer.
10Some Android phones limited on text reply, call back from text, and read notification check from phone.
11 No email sync capability for non-Samsung phones.

Email sync isn't as important as email notifications to me. Hopefully someone knows if email notifications work. I have a pebble time steel currently and I love it, unfortunately, pebble is now a dying smartwatch. So I'm looking to the future for another smart watch whos support wont be leaving us anytime soon.

Galaxy Gear with Non Samsung Phones

I have been looking around and I have found a few other phones being able to connect to the samsung galaxy gear, but there hasn't been a complete list of phones or even links to forums to help get it to work, figured I would start a thread.
Also anyone know if the LG Optimus G Pro is capable of connecting?
Getting phones to connect with the gear is one thing. I managed to connect my gear to my nexus 5 but without gear manager there isn't much functionality.

I dont think it'll be possible as of now
I'm using GG on my Pantech IM-A890K.
Gear Manager crashes whenever I touch "Settings" so I cannot really get notifications on my gear. Plus, native Weather / Media Control / S-voice do not work either. Except them, it works well; I can send/receive text (using TabletTalk), take a photo with native transfer service and use 3rd party app for remote control (Media Remote).
The only problem is that you still need a Samsung phone to initially get the gear ready for another non-Samsung phone. Take a look at this:

Notifications from touchdown and UK update

The UK update truly improves the overall notification experience but I still only get subject onlyof emails from touchdown plus multiple emails are grouped together. Sony w2 at least can provide body of email as well. Any way to improve gear to provide body of emails?

It's not MK7 that broke receiving body text via Exchange, it's GM 1.5 which you must use with MK7. Interesting it affects TD. So far complaints have been with Samsung's Exchange client. TD is big in B2B and probably is as rigid as Samsung's client in EAS security enforcement. Some people are using the AOSP Exchange client while others are waiting/hoping that the next version of GM fixes the issue. If you're rooted you can change your build.prop to a non-U.S. CSC but both rooting and altering your CSC could have side affects for DRM and connecting to secure networks. BTW, the code in GM that blocks body text only does so when the Gear is connected to a device with a U.S. CSC. MK7/1.5 worked fine on my LATAM N10.1-14 when I tested it.
I forgot to mention my last post that once you get the gear manager and the gear on MK7, you do have to replace the stock email app and load a newer one to get the full notifications back.

Or google for com.google.android.email-6.0-920375.apk and com.google.android.exchange-6.0-920375.apk to get versions newer than on androidpolice. Installed both on non-rooted Note 3.

The fact that TD is broken too most likely means the alternate mail clients that do work don't support EAS or some other types of client control used in managed Exchange environments. TD, Good, and the Samsung client are the only one's I've ever been permitted to use across companies I've connected to. The solution is for Samsung to get their act together or explain why they've done what they've done.

I can't root else IT will cut me off. But if I understand you correctly if I load the LATAM N10.1-14 firmware and reinstalled email client it might work?
Otherwise I probably can't wait for Samsung to fix and will return my gear. I need the body of my emails. I'll have no choice for now but to go the Sony SW2. The best of two evils when used with smart watch augmented Pro.

I'm in the same boat you are - I can't root or my phone and tablet are toast connecting to some of the networks I do. I only mentioned my Note 10.1 as an example to demonstrate it's not the Gear itself and whatever Samsung did to GM only applies to U.S. devices. Our only choice (in the U.S.) is to hope the next version of GM and whatever follows MK7 in the U.S. for the Gear restores what we lost. You might ask your IT group if they'll let you use Google's AOSP Exchange client which (I don't believe) requires root but if they're smart enough to banish rooted devices they'll most likely be smart enough to know which Android Exchange clients are most secure.

So before I give up my Gear anyway to go back a version of GM, reflash watch firmware (other than MK7) and get full email header and body notifications with touchdown?

Questions before purchase

Hey guys,
I'm looking at getting a G2N in the next few days (if I can find a shop that has them in stock!)
I just have a couple of questions...
1. Does it show WhatsApp messages? I tried YouTube but the ones that talk about WhatsApp is in German.
2. Does it show the weather forecast?
3. How accurate is the S Voice on it?
I'm using a Galaxy Note 2 (DN3 RC2 on 4.4.2).
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I don't use whatsapp messenger so I can't answer the first question, but I do use it to receive Facebook, espn, and other notifications. I'm site if you choose to see those it will display them. It also has a ten day forecast. And as far as s voice I think it's pretty spot on, I've been using it for a week and only once have I had to re-say what I meant. I have it paired with an s5 to for what it's worth

1. Does it show WhatsApp messages?
I don't use WhatsApp, but *all* the apps that I have used with the watch DO show notifications clearly.
(GoogleNow, Business Calendar, Feedly, a couple of others/ etc.)
2. Does it show the weather forecast?
Yes, it even has a watch face with time and a weather logo that show the temperature and a current weather
symbol (clouds, clear, rainy). If you push the logo, you get a scrolling weather forecast in more detail (for several
days). It works well -but the fastest/most current updates in settings is hourly (I'd like 15 minutes!). I also use WeatherBug
and it pushed weather to the watch --turned it off since I was getting multiple weather more or less the same times!
3. How accurate is the S Voice on it?
- S Voice does work, and I use it to respond to text messages. (So, if you get a text message on your watch -you can read the whole thing, and there is a menu to reply (settings: either 3-4 stock "canned" messages, or using a "free form" reply with S Voice. I used S Voice, but to do so you need to a) be in a reasonably quiet location (outdoors on a windy street does not work well, riding in a car with the window open and music playing does not work well...etc.).
- Secondly, I found I needed to think through the reply completely in advance and then say it slowly. Whenever I tried to create and speak and pause and continue to speak, S voice just caught a portion of the reply and offered "here is your reply shall I send it"? (no no no! delete!). However, when I knew exactly what I wanted to say, and said it slowly but clearly, S voice did well. I would NOT recommend it for LONG message replies on the watch, (Send several short replies -that works!) However, S Voice does not seem to be as good at dictation as Google's voice keyboard, or Swype/Dragon's voice type. It is pretty good at searches.
We are very close to Android Wear devices being released. Are you prepared to possibly feel remorse after dropping money on one of these and then just a few months later, new devices will be out that may eclipse them in function and app ecosystem? I bought and kept my Neo with the knowledge that its a stopgap for a few months and I'll most probably ditch it for Android Wear this summer. There's still a lot of missing functionality that the older Gears and even Pebble watches can do that need to be caught up because Samsung decided to ditch the old platform for Tizen. So it's pretty much like a gen 1 device again instead of building on the existing ecosystem from the original Gear, which means waiting on features, apps and stability/bug fixes.
Because I love the IR blaster and mic, I kept my Neo in the chance that devs can come through and fix/add the software/apps to address my problems with it. I don't know if an Android Wear device will come out that has the IR blaster, so I'm keeping the Neo for now. Even though the WatchOn app sucks right now, because it's very limited in what devices it can control.
You must be willing to gamble on whether those apps/software features will ever come around, because those of us who buy Samsung devices regularly, know that if you don't buy one of their devices that have decent developer support, you're kind of screwed due to their penchant to release so many new devices and subsequently forget about supporting their last-gen products with updates. We'll see if the decision to go Tizen will help or hurt this product. So far the app store is pretty thin and I expected there would be a bounty of awesome apps by now since one of the advantages of Tizen promoted was that it's so easy to develop on this platform compared to android. Given that, the only reason for the lack of apps I would think is lack of developer interest.

Is there anyway to make an Samsung Gear 1 work with a non-Samsung Android 7 phone?

Hi,
I've got 2 original Samsung Gear. One with Tizen and one with a rooted Null Rom 23 on.
But I can't make any of them work with my phone (Android 7).
Is there any way to make it work? (I mean, I can connect them via bluetooth... But that doesn't help me really use them as I was doing with my old Samsung phone ).
Thanks!!
Anyone ? Any pointers to how to try to make this watch work on a non-Samsung Android 7 phone would be really appreciated!!!
Use it with null 23 Rom, not flashing any Samsung related app (except pedometer, clock, timer and touchwiz settings). In this way you avoid completely the Samsung setup wizard. Do not flash gapps and limit the two cores frequency to 1ghz, use only Google voice.
Pair the watch with any phone normally from settings (even more than one)
Then use Watch Droid Phone 9 (not 10 because of Google new policy) and enjoy your new smartwatch with vocal answers to social apps, calls and multimedia controller
With Tizen no (or very very... difficult). Otherwise, easy with flashing Android Wear ROM (see post here)
EDIT : Sorry, just Gear 2 not Gear 1

Question Has anyone been able to change CSC code to enable native call recording on A33?

I just purchased this samsung phone after ages (been using xiaomi and other phones) but unfortunately it does not offer call recording in my country. Can anyone please share if they were able to change the CSC code to one with working call recording (indian csc maybe I have seen some indian youtubers mentioning how to enable call recording) .....also please guide me how exactly do you change the csc code on this phone any tutorial would be very helpful thanks.
Quick Update: I was able to enable call recording by changing my CSC through sam fw tool there is a catch tho, as soon as I change my csc to anything non-native the galaxy store starts spamming "get recommended apps from your provider" ads after every few minutes and there is no way to block notifications from galaxy store (the option to disable notifications is greyed out) so I had to revert back.
How about completely disabling the galaxy store then?
Do some people actually use that bloatware for real? That was like the first thing I debloated
Here you can read how I enabled native call recording feature on my Samsung device
Should work on most modern day Samsung devices out there
Enjoy

Galaxy Store is required because samsung apps (camera, themes, keyboard, cloud backup etc) are not available in play store they update via galaxy store disabling galaxy store would make sense only on a custom rom which unfortunately isnt available for my device A33 and I am not rooted either. I came back to samsung after many years on ios, miui and other UI and I am baffled by how polished One UI has become I can never go back to MIUI (it was a torture with all its bugs that never get fixed) or any other User interface.....I can literally customize anything from icons, font, system wide theming to even the statusbar icons (using good lock app) back in the days we had to use xposed modules to modify statusbar icons. Lack of native call recording is my only gripe with ONE UI at the moment.
Hi my default region is dubai. For call recording option i changed my fw to indian fw. Actually i got the call recording option. Similarly im having good battery life better than before. Only catch was samsung pay replace for Samsung pay mini. I think its better to switch full fw than only cse
So is it possible to change csc in a33 using samfw? to enable call recording?
Yes,
Have you not read the other posts?
I was due a replacement phone - so I decided on the A33 5G (sim free, untouched by any network provider)
.
Bought it direct from the Samsung Store online, paid £319.99 - £10 cheaper than most other stores online, i didnt want a contract, didnt want finance, just went hassle free and paid for it outright and it was direct from manufacturer.
I would usually require the most powerfull device available with the most freedom. and least restrictions, lets say a feature packed, flagship for a power user.
Well... my needs have changed and wow, for a mid entry device - the A33 is awesome.
BUT NO Native call recording in the UK.
-----------------------------------------------
I am 100% capable and confident with reprogramming the device if needed, I was a phone technician back in the day, the Beginning of Android changed the game for me and killed any future progression in my career.
Anyhow, can anyone advise - what other features are restriction by laws, location etc etc.
Is there any tools that can scan the firmware, or list all CSCs with their geolocated features etc.
kind regards,
Dan
