What do you guys think of Galileo support? - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Now that it is going live this week, you think there will be support for it on the Mi 5? Qualcomm said it's just a software fix for Snapdragon 617, 650, 820 etc.

It would be great, as its far more accurate and faster (at least thats what they say) than public GPS.
Satellites will go online tomorrow, but they are not running at full capacity yet. After all, only 14 out of the 30 planned satellites are up yet, while only 11 are in normal operation (2 are in a lower orbit and another has a hardware failure).
So whatever they promised, I doubt we'll see the full capacity yet. But maybe it can already beat GPS in on aspect or another.
Either way, this would be a great addition, but I wonder if we have to depend on xiaomi for new blobs or if we can fix it ourselves?

Wondering the same.

If Gali support and a good version of 7.1.x comes to the Mi 5, I might buy it, otherwise, it's time to check for something else. Since it lacks SD-slot and Radio (not very important, but still a feature I use.)

Mi5 worth the extra bucks?

I am about to buy a new phone, to have at least 2-3 years and i want it to be future proof.
I have to choose between MI5 and NOTE 3 PRO.
The price difference is 70$. Does it worth the extra bucks?
Which one of this devices has better development ? I am really intrested to have a good dev support (lineage, ressurection, nitrogen, xenon and kernels)
Which one should i chose? Which one is more resitent ?
Same company but different commercial line (of product): high-end and medium-low-end; with different hardware "particles" inside and different screen sizes and different weights...
Advice: If you are going for the lowest model of the high-end and comparing that with the highest model of the medium-low-end ... you are not doing a good job in the decision-making process.
The MI company is famous for the MIUI (their rom) and .... are expanding around the world but, for now, they have a presence in their motherland and in the asian market (mostly India); the rest are resellers.
So you should consider, for the final decision, the nation in wich will operate your device.
And if you really want (it's the first item in your wish/need list) a "dev supported device" maybe the MI company is not the best one for you.

And the difference between them is only 70$..
So do you think it worths the extra bucks?
Does mi5 have construction problems or heating/throtthling specific for sd820?

Go for the Mi5, it's lighter thinner and the GPU is a lot better.
It's been my main phone for a year now and hasn't let me down once.
And lot's of support for it, LineageOS 14.1 is running great.
The Note 3 pro does have a lot longer battery life thanks to the 4000mah battery vs 3000mah and the SD625 is more energy efficient.
I usually recommend the Note 3 to 9/10 people, since battery life > games.
Although it will run all games just fine, i doubt you can run Google Daydream on it like i am on my Mi5.
As for overheating and build quality neither of them have any problems whatsoever, the SD820 doesn't have the problems the SD830 had.

The Redmi Note 3 is more popular and has better development. But that doesn't mean development for the Mi 5 is bad. And since almost all ROMs are AOSP or CM based these days, the scene is pretty much the same between the two. It's the better phone. If you have the money, the choice is simple really. It's camera, display and performance is excellent, and development is good. It's got Gorilla Glass 4 as well, which is a bonus. Battery life is okay, so if that's a concern you might be better of with the Note 3.

Buy Used Oneplus 3T, Any Hardware issue?

Hello,
So i have plan purchase used 3T. Coming from Samsung S5 G900F with CrDroid Rom.
1. What famous hardware issue on 3T? (Shadow LCD? Bleading LCD? or etc)
2. What CODE to check all 3T feature? (Wifi, BT, Sound, etc)
3. How to check battery condition on 3T?
(i have experience on Oneplus One device that has faulty battery)
Regards
RR
For me the main issue of this device is that it has no issues.
My only issue with this device is the battery that had severely decreased capacity within a year.
But a new battery was around 20€ from a local online store, and the install of said battery was very easy.
Other than that I am still very happy with the OP3T and I hope to have it last at least another 1,5 - 2 years.

Can you send me a link to store?
I'm not aware of any prevalent or common hardware issues on this device. I've had the phone since Feb 2017, not a single issue; and still love using this device daily. That said, hardware failures are going to be more probable as the device gets older. But that is probably obvious.
Some folks haven't been too happy with the camera. But it's less of an "issue" (such as a malfunction or defect) as it is just a limitation of the camera module which OnePlus selected. Which is a function of the cost of that module, and therefore the resulting price of the phone. Folks who complain, are usually comparing it to a device from the same time frame, that costs twice as much (Galaxy S, iPhone, etc.). The camera works just fine for most of my normal usage. A little blurry in lower light, but you can get better lower light pics by installing Google camera mod.
Overall, for performance for the price, the 3T was hard to beat in its heyday. And that statement is still largely true today.
The only issue I have with the 3T is that my focus sensor on the camera isn't working as it should, most of the time the image is very blurry.
Beside that I'm more than happy with the device by every term ( battery, speed, the camera when it used to work, and charging speed).
buy the phone and buy a camera module doesn't cost too much
because there is a camera focus problem with many 3t or 3 device
the phone is great
if you play pubg you will face a lag because it isn't optmized by dev for us at this moment

So there are no major issue on this device... awesome....
what code when we want check Hardware Test on stock firmware?
@Rvl7 i don't think there is a code that you want on oneplus but you can download phone test app from playstore there are many
The only hardware issue I've had is failing bluetooth. It fails to turn on, after a reboot it comes back for about about 24hrs then needs another reboot to keep it on. Phone always been up to date with stable Oxygen, and factory reset doesn't help.
Once the 6T is out I'll upgrade and send the 3T back for warranty repair and sell on.

It depends what you are looking for.
Im a happy N7+ user, will keep the phone at least 2 more years. Running on pie, zero problems, battery up to 48 hours.
I just dont play games. A lot of photos (thanks GCam) , social, internet, i like the Android 1 concept. Now its price is dropped i think its a good deal.
For the Mi A2 i can just tell you build quality is not comparable with the N7+ and i read about the screen, if you wear sunglasses you cant see it well.
About the Rεalme, test the OS ... i come from EMUI and MIUI and still prefer stock android one.

I also prefer android 1 but i hear about problems in charge , what about that
https://community.phones.nokia.com/...lus-usb-c-charging-port-fail-in-build-quality
and do you think it's a good deal or wait for something like mi a3 or pocophone 2 or something
I am also change my phone every 2-3 years
there are cases that report this problem and other little things now and then, its true.
But i think the majority doesn't have them, and since you buy a new device you have warranty, so if something comes up you bring it back and demand a repair.
I too have zero problem with Pie (no charging/battery/wifi/bt/usb/screen problem which you can read from some peoples here in some n7p threads)...
Only problem is no officially way for unlock bootloader, but if you buy with nonupdated (security <= august) and you dont install ota, is possible unofficially unlock (payed service(generating signature file based on your imei/sn) per 4$ and you unlock it with this file)...
Device with newer update is need downgrade before unlocking (another payed service 6$? Is need remote to ypur pc with vonnected phone)

The phone is from late 2018 it's not even half a year old so I don't understand what you mean with 'still' worth. I come from a Droid Turbo (XT1254) and I spend around a week to carefully select the right phone, I also did this when I made the decission for the 7+.
The upsides in daily experiences:
Battery lasting (disable the Evenwell batterysaver for more durance),
Camera (on gcam it's crazy good quality)
Speed
Sound (loud and good)
Memory slot
The downsides I have discovered:
USB-C connection (could also be dirt, or the cable)
Screen is no amoled, and in sunlight performs like most devices
After rooting, not that much mods as I am used to like Droid Turbo
I am very happy with this device, it's a very good follow up to my Droid Turbo although I miss the IR-sensors that Motorola put on the Droid Turbo. At meetings it was like "how did you do that" when I wave to see the incoming messages. It was fun

Very happy with the phone also.
No issues on Pie.
Min. 2 days battery (no gaming, YouTube or Facebook).
If this phone would have been smaller (like 5.6" pixel 3) it would have been perfect.
Xiaomi phones are cheap, but with a reason.
Not sure about realme, but Android one is worth it.
Good luck.
If you don't use NFC, buy Redmi Note 7 (Pro).

Yes, for me, for TWRP, rooting with Magisk, Magisk mofules, Greenify in better root mode, TitaniumBackup, access to all apps data, F-Droid privileged (instakl/update direct without need manualy confirm all packages install)...

It's loose on several Nokia devices due to a designflaw at production. The port is too big and gives room for the cable to move/get loosen. One solution is to 'fatten' the cable through knife, or to just use a docking station.
Sending a loose USB-C for warrenty will just fix the problem temporarly and a lot of phone fixing companies take days/weeks + may return your device with new scratches.

Presonally I would not recommend at all.
Why? This phone is stupidly unstable. Few days ago I wanted to delete history in Chrome from the last 7 days, my phone freezed during the delete process.
Also uninstalling apps is for some reason slow, even when uninstalling or disabling some apps can cause also phone to freeze. The list could be even long, you can find issues I find on my posts through my profile.
Really tired of this phone, and dissapointed because I am emotionally connected with the Nokia brand, having now Nokia phone was a must, but unfortunately I regret.
I am still on older build, 32CC, I saw there are much newer builds where they maybe fix those issues, but I cannot even manually sideload those updates.
I don´t know what is the situation with other phones like 8.1, 7.1, do they have similar problem? Can anyone confirm this?
Also you can see that HMD struggles with the software, Nokia 9 which was supposed to came out back in August last year and which came 7 months later, still have software issues, probably everyone at HMD is all in to fix software issues for Nokia 9, also literally not a single Nokia device did not get March update, which shows that HMD is really poor with the software engineers.
hi, i bought my Nokia 7 plus on April 2018 for MYR1600. Phone good on paper but bad in implementation.
Frequent screen freezes (power off n on to fix issue) n loose USB port after 6 months. Sent to service center n they replaced usb port n motherboard. update November 2018 update n screen blank off when making receiving calls.
they replace the same thing again. RUN AWAY FROM THIS PHONE
Bad sides is Speed and Usb-c port issue for me. It has all aroung good stuffs
There's no lineageOS and 60fps video (and official bootloader unlock, not even a recovery tool!). If you don't care about those, then its still a great buy from what I've known so far. Heard that the camera is good. It's included in my shortlist.
Spend a bit more and you can get the Xiaomi f1 and even xz1 (bit old but not bad).

Question Device issues

Have the issues about the camera and the other ones been fixed by now? I was thinking to buy this device soon enough and I'd like to know what I will get. I am also wondering if it is easily rootable and if custom firmware support is possible.
Nope, camera issues are still not fixed. There was a slight improvement with the last patch (still on september security update LOL) but it is still unusable. Apart from that the camera app itself is just straight garbage with limited functionality and barebones implementation.
I'll get rid of my phone and probably get the Vivo x90 Pro (Plus) if I can afford it after this bad investment. I think its time to accept that root and custom firmware is not the future anymore as the only OEMs that still support it dont give a damn about their phones.

so you have trust that vivo is better in terms of software ? I´m pretty sure that you will be disappointed !
I only buy phones where you can unlock the bootloader to install custom roms.
btw: the security patch is from october for the latest update (edge 30 ultra software 16-72-14)
Is there anything else you guys recommend me with similar performance (sd 8 gen 1+) and a working camera for about the same price in Europe? Does Motorola have any records of fixing their device problems over the time or not?

My bad, october you are right. I had the Vivo x70 Pro+ before I bricked it, so yeah Vivo's software is incredible, especially in the camera department. Its like comparing an iphone 14 pro to a midrange xiaomi phone.
@Pf_Plays06 Considering that I reported the problem 3 months ago and they cant even promise a fix or a timeline I doubt that they will fix it completely. Older phones are also riddled with problems that are neither acknowledged nor fixed, take a look at their official forums. I'd rather go for a second hand flagship phone, maybe even with SD888+ or SD 8 Gen 1 unless you are into heavy gaming or CPU intense stuff.

Zenfone 9 might be a better option then.

Question So no X90 Pro+ for the global market - any Chinese import issues?

I have been following the reviews of the X90 Pro+ since it was released and was super exited to finally retire my P30 Pro for this king of photography.
I find it hard to believe that Vivo decided to keep it exclusive to China, but that seems to be the case. Guess they think people who want the best camera phone is going to buy the lesser Vivo's instead of the upcoming S23. Doubt anyone is tempted by these Vivo's - utterly bizarre decision. Hoping sales will make them realise that.
In any case - thinking of importing it, as there is no other phone that tempts me.
Apart from the lack of warranty and/or hassle getting anything fixed or replaced in case of a fault (had the worst nightmare with an S7 from E-Global years back - threw it in the bin), are there any downsides to importing this phone to Europe (UK specifically)?
From my understanding there should be no 4g/5g band issues. How about Origin OS? Seems it has more functionality than Funtouch, but are there any potential issues?
I don't use Android Auto.
Finally - which Chinese vendor is considered safe and reliable?
Thanks!

From my understanding there should be no 4g/5g band issues. How about Origin OS? Seems it has more functionality than Funtouch, but are there any potential issues?
I don't use Android Auto.
Finally - which Chinese vendor is considered safe and reliable?
Thanks!

I bought mine from Giztop.com They shipped it extremely fast and packed well to avoid any damages..
Ok great. I might order from them.
Another thing - I read somewhere that Origin does not support always on display - is that true? That's one of the basic functions which is a must

No the phone has AOD, some 3rd party apps won't work though. I use Google messages for texting and AOD won't show my incoming texts
I ordered mine last month from Wonda Mobile. They shipped via Fedex and I got it in just 3 days. https://www.wondamobile.com/mobile/vivo/vivo-x90-pro-plus-5g-cn-dual-sim-12gb-ram-256gb.html
the price seems to be going down every day, I paid around 1150€ for my black 12/256 model and now I see it's just 979€.
- The downsides of OriginOS are pretty much notification problems.. You won't get notifications from certain third party apps like Telegram for example, when dark mode is enabled. No idea if they are gonna fix it, but apparently it was a problem on the Vivo X80 Pro as well (China version) and it was fixed in an update.
- "Ok Google" voice recognition won't work either (I don't use it, but that's what I read)
- 4G works without any issues. For 5G you might wanna check out on kimovil.com, if the phone is fully compatible with your carrier.
I ordered mine from tradingshenzhen, it arrived 2 days ago.
- I bought it (512GB version) on December 29, now it has the same price, it didn't drop and I was monitoring the websites everyday since December 22, ~1150E. I bought it for the camera.
- first of all, I think people should buy this phone only if they need / want the camera, since it comes with a lot of settings / apps still in chinese.
- I think 5G is only suported in China, I got a notification saying it only works in "mainland China", so I have 4G, but I don't care, I'm more then happy with 4G.
- When you receive the phone it will have a lot of applications in Chinese, I haven't removed them yet, I will start the process today, but I will only remove what I know, not every application like others did here (I don't care if they "spy" on me)
- Apps that don't work: google voice, android auto, desktop mode when connected to a monitor. I don't use them so for me is OK.
You are buying for 1000E a phone that the competitors are selling for at least 1600E, but you must accept that not everything will work on it.
For me is OK, I realised I don't use all the "new" hot stuff, I'm still using the phone like I used my Samsung S7 6-7 years ago.

Fully agree with this but would like to add:
- timeline doesn't work in maps
Not sure how important that is, i had it always disabled.
google assistant also doesn't work properly (no conversation, no okay google).
Google backup doesn't work making setup/moving your phone super painful. I haven't found any free third party app that could move app settings and some data from messengers for example.
No desktop mode is a bummer as it's a feature I use when travelling with my P30 pro.
Hmmm - perhaps I will wait until February and hope a global release is announced

Oh ok. I haven't tried that myself because it's always off for me. I have read that many times from the other users so I thought it's true.
No you can access timeline but it doesn't register new places. So it doesn't work.
I really regret having bought this dump phone with great camera...
Cannot activate location history.

I love this phone. Coming from pixel 7 Pro this one feels way more premium
Well cannot use Google maps hand free without assistant. Cannot read out emails aloud without conversation of google assistant.
Notifications of Signal often break (must be because China cannot block Signal messenger like they can do with WhatsApp and others). Google apps in general crippled.
This phone has to be used like a phone 5 years ago. No modern intelligent interaction possible with the phone. But yeah outstanding camera for photos (less so for videos) and good but not great battery life.
If only Asus would have a camera phone. The Zenfone 9 and the rog phone 6 really rock for the target people. Pixel 7 would rock with good battery life. That's why just wait for Samsung s23 which likely will trump the x90 camera wise anyhow. And battery wise too (for that really bad chip they got good battery life). But yeah besides Samsung, Google and Asus, and Nokia on the low end there are no more good software phones. Motorola still a bit better then the remaining Chinese producers. As long as consumers buy mainly based on hardware they can continue with dismal software.

Well I guess it depends on what you want or need, i'm more than happy. From your writings i think even the Pixel 6a would be good for you.
I want very good camera with zoom, and very good battery life, and reliability with full google services. Pixel 7 pro doesn't have good battery life..
90 or 120 Hz Display is a must too. Actually FHD+ would be best (because of battery life and FHD+ mode on 1440p screen looks unsharp), needs to be waterproof and have very bright screen (1000nits without HDR for outdoor use is what I feel is enough).
Likely s23 Ultra and maybe s23 plus (depends on the quality of the zoom lens) would be perfect or waiting if Pixel 8 pro has better Chipset when it comes to power consumption.
I never play games. Speed is only important in terms of camera.
Pixel 6a will not work for camera and battery life

I think to order when I realised that model Pro plus is not coming to Europe. Just need to make clear, is it true that 5G doesn't work on this? and there is obviously English menu in OS, any other issues?

I would check the compatibility assistant on Tradingshenzhen. 5G works great for me.
5g works (check the bands on kimovil for your country). mmwave is not supported but rare in Europe. In US no mmwave is a big letdown.1500mhz 5G will likely start in 1-2 years in many countries in Europe - and isn't supported. But very few phones (2022) support it.
I would really wait for S23 however now. In China/Taiwan the x90 Pro+ is cheap (840/880€) but I would not thing a second about it if you can get a Pixel 7 Pro for much cheaper as in Europe (here P7Pro 256GB is more expensive, S22 Ultra same price).
