Screen & USB problems - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have two problems, hoping someone can help with either of them:
1. I recently had a screen replacement done at a non-official repair shop (after Moto UK quoted me £180 for a screen repair, two thirds of what I paid for the phone when I bought it). A few weeks in, this new screen went black, only shows random colours every now and then when I press the power button. The digitizer works, as I can take calls, decrypt the phone when re-booting etc. - is there a chance something is off with the connector or is the screen gone for good?
2. I'm also trying to recover some of the data off the phone, however for some reason the USB connection seems to have stopped working as well. When plugging into my Windows 10 laptop earlier, I got dozens of error messages saying the XT1902 had closed the connection or something, now when I plug in nothing happens at all. The phone is switched on and working (I hear notification sounds, can call the phone and accept the call etc.) - any ideas what's going on here?
Any hints are greatly appreciated!

Bricked - Probably Hardware, Any thoughts (or fun ideas)

Well, I think I have finally managed to kill my PDA2k. It was a late night and long story short, it got wet (but not too wet).
The next day, I plugged it into a usb power supply (car charger) and it would begin to boot (displayed the info at bottom right screen) but would fail when it tried to load the OS. I waited for a bit a re-tried a few times. Then the red light came on (top right led) and it no longer even attempts to boot. I disassembled it and made sure everything was dry and clean and it still just turns on the red light and does not attempt to boot.
So, does anyone have any other thoughts/suggestions?
I'm going to go ahead and be prepared for the worst and assume that it is in fact, done. What should I do with it? I do have an insurance policy on it (via State Farm) but I'm not sure if that is covered.
Anybody know of some cool DIY projects to make use of the parts? Or just fun ways to say "farewell" to a phone?
Well sweet moogly googly, it started working again!!! I just left it on the charger for a while and the red light went off...then I hit reset and it booted just fine!
Its like Christmas came about 15 days early...I hadn't made a backup of my data in a LONG time.
If anyone looks over my posts history, they'll see that there have been several "close calls." But I guess this is just a testament to HTC and their ability to build "resilient" hardware.
Well all is not well in PDA2K land...again.
The last post was a bit premature as it is having some serious issues. First, I cannot communicate (hear/talk) on any phone calls. I can make and receive calls fine, but no audio coming or going (despite sounds and recording working). Second, I am unable to connect via ActiveSync (or even mtty), so I can't reflash to see if that is the issue. Third, although it is becoming less frequent, the device will just power off and the red led will come on. After a few seconds the light will go off and it can be restarted. Last, the power button does not work at all. So even when it is working, there is no way to turn off the screen (without using a program).
One other related note: when you do a reset it loses the date/time.
All in all, it seems as though it is very rapidly becoming a glorified paperweight. Any ideas? If not, I'm back to deciding how to send it to "gadget heaven."
Would anyone has any use for the hardware?

[Q] ATIV S i8750 "dead"

Hi,
is it possible that the replacement of the sdcard/sim slot part on an ATiv S i8750 can cause damage to the phone?
4 months ago i replaced the sdcard/simslot part with a new one, the phone was working fine, one month after the replacement of the part it couldn't read the sdcard but everything else was working fine (for 3 months) until now, one day and while i was playing a game the phone hanged, i could press only the left(back) button which was responding with vibration (not exiting app) and the screen was a bit trembling. I kept pressing the power button to shut down the phone but it didn't, so i took off the battery, after this nothing is working. cannot switch on the phone, no key combinations for reset and download mode are working. When i connect the phone on usb i can hear the confirmation sound that the device is connected but nothing else, cannot access the phone.
Do you think it's worth trying to replace the part with a new one and check if it is working? I've read in the forum of using a usb jig to get into download mode, do you think will work?

[Q] Phone working, but showing nothing on screen

Hello there.
I have a brand new XT 1068 (two month of use). It is as received from the shop (no root or anything).
Was using normally, and suddenly began to fail. First, it didn't responded when trying to use pattern unblocking. Then the screen turned black. Tried to reset pressing the power button for 10 seconds, but the screen just lights a bit (backlit?), buzzes and nothing else.
The phone can received calls, messages, and even be controlled remotely trough Google's Android Device Manager. Touch screem seems to work, as i can answer calls by sliding center to right.
Don't know what to do. Tried the "120 seconds pressing the power button", with no success. Maybe I should try "Erase" though Google's Android Device Manager?
Thanks in advance

I think your display is needs to be replaced.
I had the same issue but instead of black it first showed coloured lines and then went blank.
I believe I had got a defective phone but got it repaired under warranty this week.

i8200 all working but black screen

Sorry guys if this mentioned before but my dad brought his i8200 to me last night saying phone went to a black screen a while ago. Let me explain the situation;
Phone boots up, works, if I put my sim card on it, I can call myself however during this whole time phone screen is black and unresponsive.
I tried to flashing official firmware via odin which didnt help. I dont know if it is related but when I connect phone via usb cable to pc I see it is popping up in "my computer" tab but I cant look into it because it is locked. However at the same time odin recognizes the phone which seem odd to me. Any help would make my old pal happy.
I know it is a fairly late reply, but have you tried opening the phone up to check the connector and cable going to the screen?
I am in a similar position, but our S3mini is even less alive. So I just opened it up today. I used this site with the remark that the speaker (the one that is against your ear when making a call) is held by stickytape so needs very careful prying loose to prevent the flatcable from being damaged.

HTC Desire 500 strange behavior after app. installation attempt

Hello everybody,
I'm not an expert in android or any other phone software, that's why I kindly ask you for help.
Trying to install an air company application from Play store on my desire 500, I got a message saying there is no enough memory to install it. The phone froze with this screen without any reaction on touching, sweeping etc. The only thing I could do was to restart it. After initial screen and entering SIM card PIN code the home screen appeared and began blinking at uneven periods of 0.5 - 1 s. It wasn't possible to control it in any way. Yet, the phone became hot and quickly drained the battery. I removed the battery, put it back, charged it and turned on the phone - it showed the same behavior. After 200 attempts I managed to unlock the screen and to make it operative. Didn't find anything suspicious except that it's hot, takes more current than the charger could supply (battery diagram goes down although charging is on) and reacts very slowly on touching and sweeping. When connected to computer HTC sync manager starts automatically but doesn't establish connection (No phone connected). After expiring wake time and the screen gets black and power button is pressed, the same blinking appears.
I made a hard reset (luckily I have a backup) but nothing changed even the phone is now completely naked, as came from the shop, without additional apps, files, contacts, nothing.
Please advise what could I do to solve the problem. This is my only phone and I can't afford a new one.
I could give all info I have concerning firmware, OS etc.
Thanks in advance!
Best regards
Emil
